and the guy in the tube in the slums is zack! trust me.
at the begining when you first get aeris and you go to the slums. you meet the guy in the tube, and it says This man has a #2 tatoo
on the second disk, there is a hidden sceen when you enter the shinra mansion and go to the basement, it goes to a flash back or cloud and zack in test tubes. being treated with mako. it then shows them out side of midgar, and soliders shoot zack, and leave cloud. zack lives and crawls to the pipe in the slums.
proof that it is him: if you go back to the test tube and click on it, it will say there are words scratched into the glass, calling cloud subject number 1 and zack test subject number 2, which explains the tatoo's.
AND! since you find this out in the second disk, and arnt able to return to midgar slums until disk 3. when you go back, and go to the pipe where he was in the begining. he will not be there, instead there will be a lady next to the pipe that will claim that the guy that lives here left, saying somthing about a JENOVA REUNION
its all true too! go ahead and check any of this for yourselves...

The man in the tube is NOT Zack, he is just another one of the Sephiroth clones they attempted to make, and is one of the guys in the black hoods.
Zack and Cloud were not real clone test subjects like the others recovered from the Nimbelheim reactor after the incident. All of the living townspeople(except the martial arts guy and Tifa, who was taken to Midgar BY the martial arts guy) were taken to be used in testing, and are the clones you see around Nimbelheim. Zack and Cloud, however, were shut in test tubes within the Shinra mansion and tested upon - because Cloud, at the time, was a regular Shinra soldier, he was severely traumatized by the treatment - add the self doubt and sham,e at not making SOLDIER, and the stories Zack, who because of his earlier Mako treatments was able to withstand the testing, told him during their escape, and you have the perfect mix for a mental breakdown and reconstruction using Zack's memories.
Actually, if you read the reports of the soldiers, they specifically state that they confirmed Zack dead on the cliff, and left Cloud there because he was too messed up to be bothered with.

the game could have been funnier with Zack

but then again I think Zack would gotten along better with Barret, and the funny arguments would be out of the window...
And Sephiroth would be, "hey you're my clone," and Zack would be like, "shut the hell up." I have parents in Go???? (who remembers what that's called? it's been 5 years...)
and then tifa would be mourning or whatever, cuz He prolly would remember cloud after all that, if cloud died instead, and then he'd tell her...

Zack is what Cloud could never be. 7 years ago he went out with Aeris, and then got into SOLDIER. Cloud, promising to Tifa he was going to get into SOLDIER, was ashamed because he failed and became a normal Shinra soldier. He went to Nibelheim with Zack, Sephroth, and someone else, and hid himself from Tifa.
Already Cloud had been shy, but also thought he was better than others, and was a bit mentally unstable. Add to that the shame of not making it into SOLDIER, and he was totally unstable. The Nibelheim incident went as he told it, only instead of Cloud as the guy with Seph, it was Zack. Seph had defeated Zack and moved him aside, but Cloud grabbed Sephroth's sword and stabbed him with it. Then, as he left the reactor, Seph came back out with Jenova's head and stabbed Cloud, who used his weight to control the sword in his chest and hurl Seph into the Lifestream.
Shinra agents came, and took all the surviving townspeople(except Tifa, who was saved and brought to Midgar by her teach Zangan), and Cused them to become Sephroth clones, or failed ones. Cloud and Zack were exposed to Jenova and Mako, and Cloud was traumatized, while Zack handled it because of his previous Mako and Jenova treatments to become a SOLDIER. In a hidden cutscene in the game, we see how Cloud and Zack escaped, and made their way to Midgar. Cloud was senseless and didn't speak, and could barely walk, and all the while Zack told Cloud stories of how he got into SOLDIER, and what it was like. As they reached the outer wall of Midgar, a group of soldiers chasing them caught up and shot Zack, and then gathered around him and shot him until he was dead. They left Cloud alive, deeming him as not a threat. Cloud, still senseless, took Zack's sword and somehow made it to the Train Station in a day or two where Tifa found him.
The combonation of shame, self hate, regret, mako, Jenova, and fear merged Zack's memories with Clouds, and so he acted like he had been in SOLDIER, and told Tifa he had gotten in and was now Ex-SOLDIER due to the Nibelheim incident. Tifa, confused because she never saw him, plays along, doubting if her own memories are even true. She introduces him to Barret, and AVALANCHE, and that's where the game picks up.
And Zack's home town is Gongola, I think.

And the man who tells you how many battles fought will give you special items if you fight the right amount of battles. I think he's the one with Aeris' Final Limit Break, or it might be that guy who sells items in a little house on the coast.

Atma, Omega? Where'd you get those names? I would've thought the Junon Weapon's name would've been Saphhire, seeing there was Ultimate Weapon, Ruby Weapon, Emerald Weapon, and Diamond Weapon. Strangly, Ultimate Weapon was one of the weakest.

Ok i was about to make a new topic for this but then I saw this one; I went and got Quad Magic (without a chocobo :] ) and I was wondering why all strategy guides say that it cannot be linked with Knights of Round materia...
The only theory I have on this is that if you DID use KoR with quad-magic, meteor would crash into the earth before the animation finishes :)

Also, you can use Quad magic with knights of the round. Actually, one of the more popular strategies on Emerald weapon before it was discovered his attack didn't do auto 9999, but instead was based on how much materia you had, was to put the Pheonix summon on as the auto-spell when the character dies, and then to link Knights of the Round with Quadra magic, and use X-Magic to use it, for a whopping 8 knights of the round. Then, simply have the other two characters in the party use mimic., 24 knights of the round for each party turns.

I think that there is a possiblitiy it's Zack, because even if you say well, "He was shot a zillion times." There's the fact that Cloud gets shot all the time through the game AND he is of Jenova cells and all that crap, so there is a possibility he could've healed quickly or not been killed by it.
Osmose, I have a question(crosses fingers) When the cut scene shows do you ACTUALLY see Zack lying dead. I mean VISIBLY dead with blood and all the bleh... ? If not than you CAN'T be sure he's dead or not.

And even if he did live, the time frame doesn't fit. Aeris has been caring for the guy for awhile, and Zack had only died a few days prior.

where and what happens to the magic once they draw it, it's not like they stick it in the pocket and say, yep i got 4 cures from that battle.

If you have magical powers it should rely on your energy to cast it like in every other rpg known to man.
ff8 treats magic like items, making there really no difference between a potion and cure, or a high potion and curaga... ok i'm done....

dont use magic, relly on brute strength, and aura and you will own anything. get diablos ability "no encounters" and go to the two islands "the island closest to heaven, and the island closest to hell" walk around the islands and gather the magic. get 100 tornado's and equip it to health. you will have around 9999 if you have the brothers +80% health ability. get many of the magic "Aura" (and do the one for str, i cant remember what magic it is though...) save your money for a long time! and finally when you have the refine ability, buy tons of potions!!! make them into hi potions. make those into mega potions and them into xpotions. then get the ability "Auto-potion" every time you are hit, you are healed to max!
for an easier way to make your aponaint suffer, equip 99 pains to your weapon! and watch the sparks fly!

Yeah, but by the time you do that, it's too late to fight the boss you probably really need it for... unless you suck. Then you may need all that for Ultimecia. And I'd convert some of those into Elixer+'s... have fun amassing them, though. Also, that pain trick's pretty damn good...
