Not just in RM2k, but in any game where the main characters have no default name. I started a new game in FF1 and spent 20 minutes trying to think good names. :| And it's even harder in games where a character can't have more than 4 letters in his or her name. Mine are always normal names. I don't like having a black mage named Paul or Joe. :yell: Drives me mad sometimes! Anybody else ever just sit there trying to think of names?

Hell yeah. But I never pick default names either... I guess I like the original touch.
I come up with wierd names like Vokazuma and Kraize.

That's why I use these little thingies
Name generator http://www.kleimo.com/random/name.cfm
and fantasy name generator http://rinkworks.com/namegen/
-
Nah, I like making names. I just use word edits and various other skills to get fairly original names.
-
I have the uncanny skill of thinking up crazy names.
Jeckra
Opertigup
Yingdar
Lorf
Periden
Terkul
Most of them sound like wierd monster names, but eh. I usually, in games, just use the default one, or Moose. The rest become names of other people - I've used Ghostclown and Red Giant in games before XD
-
Names can be a big problem even if your good at it.
I can have really huge problems when I try come up with a good name, it can take days or maybe even weeks.
But it always turn out good for me.
Remember these words: You won't find the name, the name will find you. ;)
Try focus on the bigger problems first, the names will come to you sooner or later anyway.

I love naming characters. I despise things like name generators becuase it promotes lazieness of creativity.
-

O_o You've gotta be kidden me. It really takes you that long?! Dang. Well, anyway, names of characters aren't usually a problem for me. It's places that tick me off. Sometimes it'll take me a while to think of a good name for a continent, town, etc. But, it never takes me as long as a week! XD.
-
I usually just use the defult name, but if there is something funny about the character, I'll change their name to make fun of them.
For example, Zidane in FF9 could be Monkeyboy. :D

When I start a new game and have to name the characters, I want to play right then! Especially if it's a brand new game that I bought, I never feel like just putting it down for a while so a name can come to me.

Yes, it's strange how faqs always leave out hot to get around that part... it loses me fore days.
Random Nerd: So how far are you on Minish Cap?
Me: I'm still stuck on the naming part...
-

Oh, god. O_O
You just made me realize that I have misunderstood the whole thread. _sweat_
I thought we were talking about naming heros in your own games. But you meant in other RPG's like FF and such. And "No Ace", it doesn't take days or weeks for me to name a hero in games. XD
Oh, god... Oh, god. *sigh*
Okay, Robotam. You made yourself look stupid for the whole community, congrats. XD
No guys, just ignore me.
No, shut up "me", shut up! _sweat_
...Nothing.

I have a list of names I like to call people in games.
-
i keep default names for less important characters, but for more the main character, I use a germanization of my real name : Jüd, instead of Jude
-
it sure is annoying

Same here.
FF1:
Monk/Black Belt: HEIE
Red Mage: DICE
White Mage: NINA
Black Mage: VIVI
Fighter/Warrior: DART
Thief: DYNE
In games with default names I always keep 'em ;)

Heh. I have some weird names for characters...
Usually I either name them after people, spagghetti sauces/other foods, objects, etc... or name them some random strange name that I made up.
::random examples...::
FF1
Fighter--Bob (named after nobody really.. I just like the name Bob.)
Monk--Eddie (named after.. er, me. heh.)
R. Mage--Ragu (spagghetti sauce.)
B. Mage--Prego (and again.. heh.)
FF2 (these are pretty much all random... except Yogurt, but, I'd rather not go into that one)
1st guy--Poodmu
Girl--Yogurt
2nd guy--Fred
3rd guy--Eeeegh
FF3
1st kid--Eddie
2nd kid--Bob
3rd kid--Fred
4th kid--Can't remember.. heh

Well to get around that problem, I just use the same names over and over again in every game I play. Makes it a lot easier :) And I got all but 3 of these names from my dreams :)
Male Names I use:
Zesher/Zesh
Keckshio
Valere
Sry'yxhad
Vance
Matt < my name :)
Valere
--Bad Guys--
Zersevick
Sekketh
Female names I use:
Tara
Sal'ahhadra
If they're are more characters than that, I just leave the defult names.
If I can only use 4 letters in the name, I just use normal names such as Bob and Tom, :D
