My school's media arts class allows you to get credits by developing something in RPG Maker, so I decided to start ahead of time on my RM2K3 project, The Omega Chronicles.
Plot:
The year is 2047. Advances in nanotechnology have paved the way for an advanced race of augmented humans known as the Omegans. However, Originals, humans who have not been enhanced, fear the Omegans for their power. The Originals' religious right goes as far as to call it sacrilege. However, the peaceful ways of the Omegans spare the humans from war...
...until a missile inexplicably launches by itself and destroys an Omegan arcology, killing tens of thousands. The Omegans consider this a declaration of war, and the armies of the Originals and the Omegans clash for supremacy.
Features
-Dual perspective: Experience the story from the eyes of both the Originals and the Omegans. One side has a superior magical aura, the other enhanced strength and endurance. Decide for yourself how the war will ultimately end.
-Crystals: Enhance the Original characters with crystals. Search caverns for aurite that can boost your stats and allow for powerful techniques.
-Nanomods: Equip the Omegan characters with items that enhance their innate abilities and allow them to use special techniques.
-Six classes: The Soldier, who can do anything but master nothing, the Covert Ops, with amazing speed, the Swordsman, with incredible knowledge of beam saber techniques, the Sniper, with amazing marksmanship and technique, the Hand Fighter, with incredibly strong punches, and the Mage, with an impressive arsenal of spells and incantations.
What I still need
A highway battle background
Some human soldier monsters
A few custom boss graphics I likely won't find anywhere, but I'll get to that later

Cool. Very original.

Sounds pretty cool. But a couple things I'd like to point out. First off, the name for the magical people, Omegans. Not telling you to change the name, but why Omegans? You know omega means end right? So, why call them Omegans? I hope it's not because it sounds cool, but really, do you have a reason? If so, do tell, I'd like to know. Also, the Omegans kinda sound like Zealites to me. If you didn't know, Zeal is a place in the game Chrono Trigger, who have "magical powers" and a magic aura that surrounds them, type of thing. Just letting you know, but overall it sounds pretty cool. Oh, and btw, why is it called the Omega Chronicles? Not trying to criticize your names, it's your game, your names, just wondering though. I am one who has curiosity in these type of things. :p

Pretty cool, but it looks like the Omegans have a little of advantage in there.

I know about Zeal, I've got the Dream Team ending in CT:) he Omegans aren't really magical, they're more technologically advanced (the magical aspect is left for the Mage class of both sides, as well as Originals and Soldiers to a lesser degree) The name "Omegan" comes the intro of an old shareware PC game called Flightmare (although there it had nothing to do with nanoaugmented humans, just humans that had survived the apocolypse). Although, since it means end, it can be interpreted to be the most advanced point humanity shall ever reach. "Omega" is the nanoaugmentation system used by the Omegans, and the name of the Omegan leader (actually, it's Alpha Omega, since he's the first of them)

I tried to balance it out. The Omegans have higher HP and attack compared to the Originals, but lower Aura (mind) and EP (MP), and EP's important for biomods. Besides, you only get to play as one side at a time.

Alright, that's cool. Well then, keep workin on it, this shall become a quite interesting game.

sounds cool...ish i hope it turns out well, and whats this about school? you get points? your school knows about the RM2K/3?
-
Sounds very good... but I mean the missle just accedently launches itself? Sounds like something spurred from writer's block... other than taht it sounds great.
I'm really intrigued by this school thing... perhaps... 5 people in my school know what RPGMaker is... and approxomatly 3 know about the PC version.... your school rocks!

Actually, the missile isn't actually an accident, but for reason of spoilers I can't reveal any more.

Heck, it was my media arts teacher that gave me a copy of RM2K3, of which he had installed on several computers. He even has RMXP!

Wow, Only me and one of my friends use RPGmaker in my whole school.

*jaw drop*
if i got points in skewl for rm2k3, i'd never fail another class again!
About the game, original indeed. I don't know of many game using the idea of nano technology. Red Faction did, and it turned well. So did the movie I,Robot. damn good movie. so this should be kewl.
just a question, since the Omegans seem so much stronger, is there an advantage the Originals have the Omegans don't? and why did the missile fire? did you just say it was an accident to throw us off, er what?

1. The Originals have more magical ability than the Omegans. At level 99, an Original's Aura (equivalent to Mind) and EP (equivalent to MP) will be higher than that of their Omegan counterpart by 50 (by 5 at Level 1) The Originals will also have less limits to stat growth. While the Omegans' stats will stop growing at Level 99 and be affected by whatever you tack on, the Originals can pump up their stats by using Aurite, which can be bought in any amount you wish from shadier employees at Energen mines on the human continents just so long as you have Credits to spare.
2. The Originals officially declare it an accident. It's not. It was actually intentionally fired. You'll find out why the Originals did it if you choose to play the Omegans' final scenario (and in the process have to battle a sentient computer with Advocate-like reach)
3. And whoever said nanotech was in Red Faction, haven't played that, but it was in Deus Ex, which I have played, and was inspired by (heck, in all honesty, most of the game's concept is inspired by the concept of Naturals and Co-ordinators in Gundam SEED)

I've got Demo 0.01 finished now, which allows you to play the first Original mission. Now all I need is some webspace to host it.
-
This seems like a really cool idea for a game. Good Luck
I made a 'game' for school to, thought it wasn't like a real game, more of a tutorial for some math crap. But still the same, as long as your teachers' understand, why not use RPGmaker for more things?

Demo 0.01 (http://www.geocities.com/fusiondragon2099/Oc-demo0.01.zip)
This demo has the first Original and Omegan missions. Comments and critique welcome.

This reminds me a little of Deus Ex. *sings theme song*

As a footnote, Nanomods are based on DX's augmentations and the Components for AG7-17 in ABL.
