Title: Games keep letting me down...
Post by: Almeidaboo on February 27, 2005, 10:42:34 PM
This time it was Suikoden IV (just finished it, in 38 hours*)...Ack, the game was so sudden,  so obvious, so shallow....I can say that the battles were very good, even though we do not have the six-men-party as in S1 S2 and S3...Aw man, cīmon, this wave of bad rpgīs has GOT to stop...

Anyoneīs played it? Anyone has anything to say about these crimes that have been pulled against us, RPG fans?

*BTW, I only did it in 38 hours cuz I leveled up a LOT. I could have done it in 20 hours easily, LOL....

I just started Suikoden IV yesterday and I can't really say I'm impressed. Some of the areas seemed far too open and under-detailed, the game just lacked a sense of polish and detail.

Actually, 4 is 150 years before 1....IF you have played Suiko 1 youīll know about that...actually you might not, cuz it depends on sume actions....aw man, I canīt explain it cuz itīll spoil the game if you ever play it...
I can say in is disappointing, but worth playing...it had an bad production...the fighting system pleases me...and the sea enviroment is an interesting "try"....course it didnīt work out huh...

My sigīs messed up? But is it just a phrase...aw man, Jesus got mad at me!

I still in Suikoden 2 and I didnt play the first one yet, I think suikoden 4 is 3-D? Thats the problem, sprites are MUCH bettah, just look to the older Super Mario World, and the new 3-D mario series, same with sonic series, I have more fun with the classic-looking games. Thats because now they are making games with better graphics and less funny things, they forgot what a game should be like, it should be fun

I actually think that it is possible to put graphic and entertainment together...BUT, if things remain going the way they are, I gotta agree with you: letīs go back to  low quality graphics and good quality storyline/characters/battle system...

BTW, everyone thought that Suikoden 1 was the worse (cuz everyone starts with suiko 2) before suiko 4 was released...Suiko 1 is the root of all, one of the best RPGs EVER...

Itīs an excelent system (suiko 1 and 2) in which you fight with 6 characters in your party, characters that can use long, short and medium ranges weapons. Short can only be in the front line, medium can be anywhere and the same for long ranged characters...It changes a bit in Suiko 3 and 4.

The main theme is based on a chinese tale that a hero gathers 108 stars of destiny to battle a evil of some kind....That means the game has 108 different playable characters, and you can get them all, or not. The game emphatizes Empire wars, not aliens and such idiotic stuff...Plus the storyīs feature a Rune that chooses the hero and give him the power to change his fate....it is usually a cursed rune and stuff like that....

Itīs my fav series after Final Fantasy...It is really worth buying, but d/ling is ok too...

And you forgot to say that there also a blacksmith system to make your weapons more powerful, and you can put magic in the weapons as well, and you can buy magic, but can't buy new weapons, the runes aren't cursed, just... the heros have bad luck, thats all, that plus the fact they don't want to fight....

Wow, that dose sound pretty cool. I only download games if they're not avalible for me to buy. Since this series allready has 5 games, I'm guessing the first one is for the snes or sega. If thats the case, its not really going to be possible for me to buy from any store.

108 characters!? I thought chrono cross had a lot...

Yeah, I forgot those! Thanks man!
Suikoden 1 is for Playstation, and it was one of the first RPGs Iīve ever played. Suiko1 rules, Suiko2 rules, Suiko3 very good and Suiko4 is good...You shouldnīt miss this series...AND itīs soundtrack, that rules too.

Yeah Snake Eater, MGS rules! Actually, Solid Snake rules...Everytime I play a MSG I think: Man I wanted to be cool like this...

All games today have too many problems, like I just bought Prince of Persia the other day and beat it in 8 & 1/2 hours! It was a great game with some tricky puzzles but its too short! Game makers cant seem to find their edge anymore... *sigh*

Or maybe it's because of deadline. Lets say, for the sake of example, that every game has a 1 year deadline to make a game, from start.
If it was a game for the snes, you could get some guys to whip up some sprite graphics, backgrounds and simple music in about a month, with the rest of the time spare to focus on the game.
With one of our generation games, however, more time must be spent on graphics, physics, music etc., but people don't like to wait longer.

The games they make now are just getting worse, I dont care about thier deadlines.
usually they push back the realease dates,. and the games still crap!!!, what happened to the good ol' Skies of arcadia,Grandia1 and 2, and chrono trigger level of quality, you don't get that anymore :(

Well the more time they spend making a game, the more money it costs the company to make it. What they should do is start working on the actual game before they even have the graphics made, using quickly made temperary graphics in their place. When the actual graphics and stuff is made, it would be easy to insert them in place of the old ones. That way they'd get a big head start on the programming aspect of the game, and they can work on making the actual story and gameplay good. Who knows though, they might allready be doing this  :p

I haven't even played a good rpg game for the ps2, the only one that was decent was FFX, but I wasn't too impressed. I guess rpgs are a thing of the past  :(.

The best system for rpgs is the psx. It has the final fantasy games, chrono cross, breath of fire games, vandel hearts, vanguard bandits, star ocean: the second story, and much more, plus there were remakes of a lot of games on the playstation such as chrono trigger, ff 1, 2, 4, 5, 6.

The only good RPGs that I can remember playing on the new-age consoles are Kingdom Hearts and Tales of Symphonia. They both had great graphics and some unique gameplay and story ideas, but they were just not as good as some of the old RPGs on the SNES and PSX.
