Unless you really like the RMXP RTP (I can't see why... it looks "bleh", at best) or can make your own graphics for XP pretty well, you should probably stick with RM2k/2k3.
Other than that, I don't have much advice, seeing as I usually never finish most of the games I start... heh.

personally, I like rm2k3, just because it's newer and better than 2k and 95, but doesn't require the 1024x768 Screen Resolution.

If you haven't made a game before, I recommend Rm2k, if you have, and it was somewhat successful, use rm2k3.

Hmm, I'd go with rm2k3. The only differance between 2k and 2k3 is basically the battle system, it also has an increased number of pictures that can be on the screen at a time, and a few more key input processes.
If your gonna use characters that are very unique, it will probably be very hard to find battle chars for them. If you can't get any good battle chars, I'd go with rm2k then.
For rmxp, there allready is a bunch of new scripts avalible, and a handfull of graphics. If you do want to use rmxp, go for it. My suggestion though is that you copy all the rmxp rtp graphics into your game's graphics folder before you make anything. That way when a graphic is made that you would like to use instead of an rtp one you are currently using, you can simply give the new graphic the same name as the rtp graphic you wish to replace, then paste it into your graphics folder. That will automatically switch the new grahpic througout the whole game.
