Title: My First Spritesized Battle Character
Post by: Tomi on March 07, 2005, 03:38:37 AM
This is a sprite battle chara that I made a while ago with a generated Tomi, and I want to know what you think of it.  I may start back making sprite b-charas if it looks good enough.

His legs look a little mis-shaped, but good job.

Not much room for detail in those old style things.

I think I accidentally started it off months ago when I made some for Carnose and SonicChaos7 (Before I got bored :D ) quite a few people liked 'em, and then suddenly sprite battlechar makers popped up all over the place!

Good job, Tomi.

The reason spritesize is so popular is that it's quicker to make and easier than making bigger things. Good for those who loved the simplicity of FF1-FF6 which primarily used the same base char. Truthfully they didn't want to waste time on the character graphical development and spritesize was easier and quicker.

Note that if you look at the FF1-FF6 bchars they have all the same basic properties.

Upsides
1: Quick.
2: Simple.
3: And take up little room.

Downside
1: Loss of detail
2: Simplistic
3: Show a bit of lazyness

I don't think that they are easier to do,... I really try to detail them as much as possible.... and that's really not a show of lazyness at all   :yell:

Meh. I did around 20 in one day for a person as a request. Truly pales in comparison to a huge battle animation bchar... ask around, it's hard as heck. Very rewarding though, I hope to make one soon. Though spritesize is a little fun to mess around with, I did some amusing poses before.

Eh, they are good for practice I guess.

Not quite. They were popular in the days when I was a newb, and there were quite a few people (myself included) that were decent at doing them. But they died off for awhile, until they were revived again recently by XJericho, InsaneJP and a few other people.

As for the set... it's not bad. The victory pose looks weird, and the attack poses could use some work.

Yeah i agree somtimes you can do even more poses and things with the spritesized ones then any other thats why i prefer them now....and darkfox is kind of right they are WAY faster but everyone has there own opinion

Actually, this was done before both xJericho and InsaneJP ever came to charas.  I just was looking though my archives and decided to post it since spritesized bcharas have been popular.

And thanks for the complements!
