Title: What Religion are you?
Post by: wildguy3922 on March 10, 2005, 04:58:47 AM
I don't believe this was ever conducted in Charas, but I am curious.

I am Baptist.

This can start flame wars. I've seen it happen on over 5 forums so far.

Self Realisation Fellowship. Or SRF for short.

Well, this should only start flame wars if we're stupid enough to flame based on someone else's religion. Now, we've all known each other long enough not to do that. And another thing,

Aethist.

Like razor said, omly if you are stupid enough, you would start a flame war. If you cannot keep your flaming comments to yourself don't even look at the reply button. I'll keep an eye.

Thanks. Religeous debates, or downright attacks, can be deeply insulting.

Eh. supposedly I'm one of those Catholics who just doesn't go to church and doesn't have much religious fervor, but really I just say "I don't know", because, really, I haven't put that much serious thought into it, and don't intend to. Doing so would just confuse me more.

Aethist... to a point. Due to my family, I support religious holidays such as christmas and ester. I don't find much point (this is for me, not a clash against the religions that follow it) in easter. I do in christmas because it brings my family together, and we never argue then.

I have nothing against any religion, I just lost my faith in God. I was once Christian... but now I don't follow God.. nor Satan..

I'm a christian. I suppose if you wanted to get really specific, I'm Presbyterian.

Yeah, and let's not have any kind of religious argument.

None of the above, I'm not really into religion but if I was to belive in someone's teachings, I'd pick Lao Tzu.

My parents made me catholic,...

but:

I, for myself, know that there's no god outside...

I'd more believe that there's life in the wide universe, than an old man on a cloud watching us *laugh* (bad english)

The question is "what religion are you?". You cannot say "atheist", for atheism is the disbelief in religons, and therefore stating atheism as a religion is self-contradictory.

I dont believe in any gods, for I am an atheist, however, I am onsiderint Illuminatist (the original, not the modern satanists)

I don't really have a religion, but I do believe there's some kind of force out there somewhere. I don't know what you'd call it.

I have a friend who's a Pagan.

If atheist is non-religous it's atheist. I never was religous and think I'll never be. But I do celebrate holidays like Easter and Christmas.

Wow, we have LOTS of Athiests, I'm suprised.

I think the most violent debate in the world is a religious debate, in which not people want to get into, nor I.

I was hoping to meet some Hinduists, I studied them recently and their religion seems somewhat interesting.

Brilliant.

Oh, and aethism is a religion, to the point that their only belief is a disbelief of all other religions and that you either don't want to think about it, don't need to, or just plain don't.

We have a lot of Hari Krishnas around here. We had them in VA too. Only the ones in VA were armed. See, they would get death threats all the time... Fuckin' hillbillies...

When will people realise that Atheism isn't a religeon? it's the lack of. Like calling white a color.
Title:

Actually white is a color. 255 RGB. Black is the lack of color. In computer terms.

Yeah that's computer terms =P XD I was teached in art class that white is a shade or contrast forgot, but not a color, for it's not in the color wheel, neither is black. XD but anyway I went off topic there.. please also do not re-instate or debate on opinions in here. If you must do it over PM, or not do it all. Be constructive! So far so good!

Title:

Hmm.. religion.

I really don't think there's a name for whatever it is that I am.
I'm not an atheist, since I do believe there is a God, but I don't really agree completely with any organized religion.

I believe in a Heaven-like place, but not a Hell (and if there is a Hell it's more of the "waiting room of the damned" than anything else... if Heaven is eternal life, it would make a lot of sense, to me anyway, if "Hell" is actually eternal death, or, your soul dying forever. Painfully)... I also don't think God has a gender, since it really makes no sense for an all-powerful supernatural being who's existed since before time (and before the entire CONCEPT of male/female) to have one. Also, I don't like the idea of God being some sort of "puppet master" who controls every little thing. I see God as being more concerned with creation... God builds a universe and sets up the laws of physics and all those other complicated things, then lets it run on its own.

Basically, I've looked at a lot of different religions, and I can point out things that seem to be obviously inserted by humans in each of them (some saying guys > girls, most saying humans > all other animals, a lot saying humans {or a specific group of humans} = chosen people of God, and so on... all of these things seem like they were inserted in by humans of that time)

{er.. whoops. that was too long. I usually wouldn't go into this much detail about religion, but, I'd rather do that than confuse anyone. though I've probably done both already, heh...}

That would make you agnostic - a person who beleives in a higher power, but not in any certain religion.

Roman Catholic

I go to mass every week and I like Catholicism, because I really hate how some religions deny other people's views completely.  The RC Church (now) does a good job of accepting most other religions.

I think agnostic is more that you are unsure of the existence of a higher power, but don't think it really affects your life.

Athiest is almost a religion in that you firmly believe there is no God and think other people are wasting their time with stupid religions.
Title:
Post by: SonicChaos7 on March 14, 2005, 03:52:59 AM
Agnostics either believe that there is no God, but want proof of his existance, or they believe there might possibly be a higher power out there, but they are not for sure.

Agnostic is when you aren't sure if God exists.
I'd say 99% of people are agnostics.
People who claim they are athiests have probably had the thought enter their mind, and christians have most likely had doubts.

I was satanic. Then I realized even that was stupid.

I won't believe in something I can't see.

No offense to anyone here, just saying, I think religion is wierd. Worshipping something you have no proof of being real.

Edit: Before I was satanic, I was christian.

I never lost faith - I was just never forced into believing in him.
And most of us celebrate CHRISTmas because its one of the few times in the year where we can get the family together and have good times and celebrations. So nyah. :s

Well, I went through a long period in my life believing I was an aethiest, but sometime last year when I was going through a personal crisis, I took the time to sit down and clearly decide what I beleived in.  What I came up with roughtly boils down to this:  I have faith in something, of what, I don't know, nor do I need to know, for I'll never truely know until my death.  In my opinion, faith is more important then the path you choose to get there.

I do, however, absolutely refuse to acknowledge the institute of Christianity for personal reasons.  I'm not intending to offend, I'm merely stating my opinion.

Fun Fact which might have been mentioned earlier: Christmas is not when Jesus was born. Consider that the setting described in the bible was that of late spring or early summer. The reason Christmas was chosen to be In December was because on that same day there was a pagan holiday, and the Christians sought to undermine it.

Nero - Most people who post on forums and such are semi- to full-fledged- nerds. And most nerds like that have spent at least some time rethinking their base beliefs, and the common result of that is a conversion to Aetheism (can't....speel....)

I spend more time on my daily life than thinking about the afterlife and such, although I greatly admire the religious institutions. Without beliefs, no matter how skewed they are in anyone's view, life would be sucky.
