Title: The Golden Compass
Post by: Tomi on March 10, 2005, 11:19:30 PM
I am planning on making a game based on this book that I just finished reading for the 4th time.  Its called "The Golden Compass" and has a storyline that I think I could make into a entertaining RPG.

A brief summary of the storyline can be found at http://www.hisdarkmaterials.org/article458.html

What do you think?  I would like people's opinions on this idea of turning a book into a game before I start.

Oh man, I loved that book, even after I read it for the 5th time

That'd be awesome to make a game based on "the Golden Compass"

I haven't read it, but it seems quite interesting. I'm not one who likes to read either, so a game would be cool. Good luck! :D

I've read that too, it's a good series.

So was The Subtle Knife, out of all three, the Golden Compass is probably the "least good" (not worst, because it was still a great book)

I started a game about it after I read the books, but I didn't get much farther than that.

I have read the Subtle Knife, however, I have not yet read the Amber Spyglass.  The reason I decided to make a game based on the Golden Compass is because it starts out the series, and if I started on one of the other books, the people wouldnt have the backround they would need to completely understand the storyline.  Also, I personally found the Golden Compass better than the Subtle Knife.

I started working on Lyra's Battle Character Set.  How's it look?

Sweet. Thanks for all your comments.

And charaman, There are a couple things that I plan to do with the whole daemon thing.  First, there will be a special menu in my CMS that allows you to change your daemon's form, but theres a catch.  As you gain levels, your daemon does too.  It'll learn how to change into different forms, and some of the higher level forms will have special abilities on the map.  For example, as a monkey, your daemon has access to any chest that is in the trees, or something like that.  Second, there are certain people who you can daemon duel and fight to win prizes.  Oh, and the daemons will also follow the character like a catipillar system.  Thats about all I have now, but I'm open to ideas.

Thanks.  And I actually have something plotwises that I need a little advice on.  You know the whole time after she leaves Jordan College and goes with Mrs. Coulter and stuff.  What sort of thing could I do during that time?

Dont really remember well, been a long time, is it with the orangutan daemon?

No, she gets the aleithometer (or however its spelt) and leaves with Mrs Coulter because Mrs Coulter promises that if Lyra learns all the navigation stuff, that she'll take Lyra to the North.  In the mean time, she educates Lyra, buys here a bunch of clothes and stuff, and introduces her to important people at parties. But no orangatang.
