Title: Which Battle System?
Post by: wildguy3922 on March 10, 2005, 11:24:02 PM
All right, here's how it goes:

Which Battle System do you think would be better, more fun, etc. on Rm2k: Chrono Trigger, or Final Fantasy.

Chrono Trigger - Walking up to an enemy, the heroes don't go anywhere and they fight that enemy on the very same map.

Final Fantasy - You are teleported to a different map, with your character in stances and lined up beside each other facing the enemy, exactly like the FF 1-6 battle system.

2 would be useless since it's already emulated on RM2K3, it would be wasted time and 1... meh, it will never feel right.

Both = overused. I would choose something more original, like Secret of Mana or Tales of Phantasia.

But since I don't have a choice, I'll say MBS.

Secret of Mana or Tales of Phantasia.

Hmmmm... you'd need an RPG engine that allows pixel movement. Sadly none of the RMs support this... *sigh*

Well if the characters switch into battle stances for the chrono trigger one, then I'd use that one.

I don't think either are overused in rm2k/3. Only a few of the games I've played even have CBS's in them.

I have never like Chrono Trigger's style of battle system. It always felt clunky and aesthetically unpleasing to me. Of course, now I'm beginning to acquire a taste for real-time battle systems (ala Symphonia or Star Ocean), but traditional FF style is tried and true.
