Title: My own drawings...
Post by: Moosetroop11 on March 11, 2005, 06:56:22 PM
I have a problem with drawing in that I can only ever copy other pictures... Although I can change the drawing slightly It's never that original...

Nevermind, here's Tifa!

EDIT: WOAH! TOO BIG! TOO BIG!
How can I make it smaller?

Interesting. It reminds me more of Terra than Tifa, though - might be the hair.

Wow thats a lil big don't ya think.  You could always shrink it in photoshop or something. They say 80% always makes a good thing look better.

Anyway its a fairly good drawing.  Too bad it was just the face though, cant really see the hairstyle.

I don't know how to shrink it... I don't have photoshop...

Thanks for the comments anyway.

www.ultimatepaint.com has a freeware program that can shrink and such.

What about now? If it's still too big I'll delete this post...

That's pretty neat work man but I've got a couple of constructive comments to make -

First of all, a picture like your one tends to look better if you use a programme like photoshop to colour it in because the drawing in its raw forms lacks tone. When couloured in, the variation in the skin colour would become more apparent thus making the drawing itself look more realistic. However, I understand that since you don't have Photoshop, you would either have to use a cheaper alternative or forget using colour at all. Then, of course, there is the fact that you may prefer keeping it less realistic because the designs for the Final Fantasy VII characters were less realistic than some of the latter work.
For improvements on the original hand drawing, I could only really suggest moving the ear slightly. I feel it's a tad too low, and would be better situated if it were level with the nose instead of the mouth.

As a whole though, it's nice. I'd like to see some of your other work !!

I put more effort into it than the Tifa picture... She was a bit of a test. I'll try and make my drawings more 'shaded' from now on.

As you can see, I'm bored. Here I drew myself, but strangely I look completely different in real life. Oh well.

"We called it Sin."

Oh, by the way, I've got used to the scanner now so I can take requests if you want. Of course my drawing isn't as good as most of the other artist here, but if you want a request It's best to post a picture, or even two, so I know what you're taking about.

I like the carmen one the best. My advice is, see how you use a lot of parallel lines to shade stuff in? Well, the way they meet in certain places makes them seem kinda akward. Its not a bad thing, because you can probably use the lines to your advantage to make shading better. Just be more careful with them, and keep it up! :D

The only real qualm I have with your drawings is when you first begin to draw them. From looking at them, I can see that you first draw the actual pic, and then pencil shade it all to make it more than just an outline. The shading is fine, but the pre-drawing needs a little work on straightening things out, making them more fluid, etc. Focus on that and the overall quality of your drawings should improve.

One technique I find to make drawing shapes easier is to instead of just going for a single line, try several short lines to make up a shape, IE a bunch of quick curved lines to form a round circle shape. Try that, and then erase any excess, then try shading, and see if that helps.

I took longer than usual on it.

By the way, these aren't my best artworks. All my best are painted, and I take hours over them. Today at school I had an all day art exam... Anyway, I can't show you these paintings because they're in art books and my scanner isn't the sort where you can fit pages from books in. Oh well.

No requests from anyone?

I got a request - get a digital camera and show us these paintings.

Interesting idea... I'll use my brother's. If I can work out how to use it. Don't expect them soon, though.

So... in a sense, you did not draw yourself. Interesting.

Good stuff, you have potential. Keep on chugging.

Cool, takes confidence to draw in pen. An artist needs that. I know I never can  :| . Pencil, Pencil, Pencil...

i like ur pics :)

i think u should spend a lil more time wid the shading though. i can see tha u briefly put some lines to make a shadow but it might look beta if u where to add more lines of shading ro make it look more realistic.

EDIT: oh i neva noticed that there where more pages cos the pic on the first page was so big tha the page numbers disappered :P

True. I gues the photo I had of him was a bit weird.

My favourite painting is at school _sweat_
As soon as I get it back I'll show it to you. Till then, I guess I'll start the pen drawings again.

I'd comment, but I really have no idea whether that's supposed to be anime style or not.
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 21, 2005, 07:48:46 AM
Does it have to be a 'style'?
It's not meant to be life-like, but certainly more realistic than my other comic characters. Anime, if you wish.
