As some of you know, I posted a while ago, a thread with the same title about my game.  I gave alot of information, but not alot of people responded.  So I am here today to make a new thread not just about my Characters or my  Story , but also about some events in my game, screenshots, and very soon, the opening video to my game!  I will constantly be updating this thread with new information almost every day.  I would appreciate it if whoever replies, would only reply for any questions, comments, or ideas about my game.  (Please don't point out my mistakes too.  It makes it seem like all you care about is mistakes and not the actual thread.)

By event, I mean a point in my game.  Ex.-A building blowing up.(You get it.)  So here they are.

 Skylar Lancaster (Blonde haired character)
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Weapon: Sword
Description/Story: Skylar is the main character of this tale.  At the start of the game, he is an "elite" well trained soldier of the Western Resistance.  He boasts in his amazing sword skills, but lacks in his ability to stand up for himself.

 Haru Linaf (Silver haired character)
Age: 17
Sex: Male
Weapon: Double Sword
Description/Story: Haru is Second in Command of the Western Reistance.  He is of the few in the world who can wield two blades, and still have the speed and agility as if he were holding nothing.  He is very determined and wont stop until he has reached his goal.  Although this is very good, it also makes him somewhat arrogant of his own power. (Foreshadowing?)

 Draight Zaff (Gray long-haired character)
Age: 61
Sex: Male
Weapon: Gun
Description/Story: Draight is an extremely talented pilot.  On both land and sea, there is nobody better.  He is very warm-hearted and is always in the mood to help.  Just by looking at his face, you can see the many stories of his adventures.

 Serra Valentine
Age: 15
Sex: Female
Weapon: Bow and Arrow
Description/Story: Serra is half human-half bird.  Living off of the land, she has adapted great athletic and archer skills.  Extremely adapted to the land, she is a great navigator.


As for the story, that will be posted later.  As well for screenshots because I just started making maps.  The video will be posted once it is finished so stay posted.  If you like it so far please tell me.

Your game looks like it's pretty cool. You should show a screenshot of what it is like in the battles. Good job so far though.

I think I might be able to help you with your Charasets if you want. I've made a few myself. There okay, I'm not sure if I can do much with poses for the Charas though.

In your first screen that character set doesn't match really with the character talking...
In your second screen your map looks kinda empty...try to decorate a little

It probably is early in the game when the main character is a knight or something and later becomes a rebel, but I don't really know I'm just guessing...

try to make your games a realistic a possible.
right now you could edit the character set to make her close her eyes like some sorta oracle

and also she is an oracle.  and the map is plain because the main character is in another dimension.  where nothing exists.  dont just criticize w/o knowing the backround behind the shot.

Okay.  I believe that my story is very hard to tell about.  There are way too many lessons, events and things you have to see to understand.  With that said, I'll explain the basic plot.  i'll explain details later.

Basically, my story is about a guy named Skylar.  He is in an rebellion called the Western Resistance.  A few years ago, the Western king died, and his younger brother took over.  Ever since then, the western continent became chaotic.  The king, for some reason, wants to start a war.  Although the people of the world think it is for power, there is more going on than what the eye sees.

 Zephyr (Will be named Zyero first)
Age: Unknown (Looks 23)
Sex: Unknown (Looks male)
Weapon: Cannon (Futuristic Cannon)
Description/Story: Zephyr is an android sent from the far future.  He was built with the task of protecting the Soul Flame Bearers at all cost.  He lacks ability to understand humans, and is extremely stiff.  He will play a HUGE role in the development of each character.

i said earlier that i would write about some events.  so i will wright one now that will probably leave you with aloy of questions.  ok here goes.

 Event: Theres a point in my game wher the crew gets thrown into jail.  They are proved guilty of the crime, and are sentenced to death.  On the day of thier death sentence (day they will be killed), all the guards in the jail dissapear.  Skylar awakens with his cell door open, and blood on the floor.  Also on the floor, is a yellow medallion w/o a flame in the middle of it.  What does this mean?  What happened here?  Who did this?  And are they in more danger than before?  You'll have to play to find out.  lol.


If you liked this segment, please tell me, and I will post more action packed events.  Thanks for all the replies in advance.  :D

PS: I agree that you should try to make  your game as realistic as possible because when you release it people will notice the tiny mistakes and they wont like it.

I have a question that basically goes out to anyone.  My story for my game will span the length of three games.  I decided to make the first one (Carpe Diem: The Power Within) to have very very little changes in the menu/battle/skill system.  With this in mind, I decided that with each new game, I add ALOT of new features.  Please tell me what you think of this.  I would really like to hear what ppl think.  It might change my mind too.  Thank you to everyone who responds.  :D

You need more detail. Just slapping on a  tree here or there doesn't really cut it. You need to add realism. Trees will not be conveniently set up into a square sector, even if we wished it. Add some curvature to the tree cluster. Also, if this map is meant to have lots of mud/dirt, at least add some life to the grass. Give the grass flowers and stuff. Also... the waterfall looks very out of place.

k, ill spruce it up and ill repost it and you tellme what you think.  oh and btw, the reason that all the trees are  lined up like that, is because it is a manipulated forest.  it is basically being controlled byy an evil force.  but yeah, thanks for the advice! :)

Thats a lot better  :)

Try adding some wild life and layering the tops of the trees. I see trees being layered with that tileset in a lot of good games, I attached a screen I whipped up in a few minutes to show you what I mean  :)

You don't have the change the layout at all to layer the trees, and it can be done rather quickly.

Okay now this is the first evil character in my game.


Name: Cire (Pronounced Sire)
Sex: Male
Age: 44
Weapon: Spear
Bio/Story: Cire is the youger brother of Volan, the former King of the Western Continent.  He took his brothers throne as soon as Volan had been killed.  Imediatly starting a war between the four great continents, he is responsible for the chaos in the Wetern Continent. He keeps everything to himself.  His true intentions are unknown.

Although i have posted characters and story, i haven't really said what the point of the game is... so HERE IT IS!! :)

 Plot : Okay, in this game there are 7 Soul flames; relics from the past that were combined to create an immense and unstoppable power.  In the past, 7 heroes went on a long and perilous journey to find them and defeat the evil that threatned thier land.  When they found them, the united the Flames and were granted immense power......but for a price.  Their bodies became one, and they were forced to stay that way for all eternity.  (Fate plays a cruel hand as we all know)  So after defeating the evil, the Legendary hero dissapeared, and the 7 Soul Flames seperated and were flung to the far corners of the world.  But instead of all them seperating, one was left behind and dissapeared along with the hero.  Now, almost 200 years later, all of the Soul Flames have been found, and are kept in Tombs (not real name).  Only those worthy of their power can face a Soul Flame.  
Now, a great evil is beggining to loom from the shadows.  But with a Soul Flame misiing, how will you defeat it?  You must aquire each one, and along the way, learn of the past, so that you can find out how to resurect the remaining Soul Flame.... if it is even possible.

Notice- The demo proggresion is coming along smoothly.  I'd say that I am about 75%-80% done with it.  It might come before scheduled.  :D  Ill post when it is complete.  :D

Honesly I think this game could have a great outcome. Just work on that systemgfx.. the bevel is tooo high.
The mapping could use some work and thats pretty much it.
but dont take it offencivly. work on what I say and you wont regret it.

I just dont like telling people their game is "Tha best" when it could be better. good luck m8

Okay, the demo release is coming along much faster than previously stated.  :)  My goal is to have it out by Moday or Tuesday!  So keep posted until then!  All thats left is to finish up one small map, and go over the whole demo and fix any bugs, or mess-ups, etc.  Also, i need one more battlecharset, buts thats about it.  Okay so keep posted!  :D

Okay, here's a new character... he's probably the wierdest looking character in my game.

Halvor Seir
Age: Unknown (Looks about 10)
Sex: Unknown (Sounds male)
Weapon: Guitar/Magic
Description/Story: Halvor is an extremely diverse "person".  Although he looks very young, he has the wisdom and knowledge as if he had been living for hundreds of years.  He used to be a sage, but for some reason began to pick up Guitar.  He is EXTREMELY talented at the guitar.  His songs can put even the gods at rest.

Btw, this is a great character addition, because he will add very nice guitar music to the game which i downloaded from a movie.  :)

okay, sadly :( my demo is post-poned.  i couldn't get the beggining video done, so it has to be redone and that might take awhile, cause i need people that can draw... anyways, ill post whats going on with the demo once things start to get better.... and on a different note, here is the website about my game... there is not much on it, but i will try to add at least one new thing every day so make sure to go back to it.  heres hoping my demo gets done soon. (crosses fingers)

okay, i decided to post the demo... the only reason i didn't post it in the first place was because my beggining is a slide show type thing.  and its nowhere near done.... so ill just have the beggining for the full game instead... all i ned to know is how to post it, and is there a special demo program i need, or do i just put what i have?

Okay. its official, I am returning to this story, because I stayed up all night re-thinking my story, and It came out really good! :D  Anyways, so this project is back alive, and i will use everything i originaly had... also Im sorry to those i let down, but its back so its all good.  :D  Ill post the improvements to the story later.  First i need to see if anyone still cares about this game.  :)

 Name: Rayne Valentine
 Age: 16
 Sex: Female
 Weapon: Rod
 Description/Story: Rayne is the Princess of the Southern Continent.  She is the most beautiful princess in all the world.  She doesn't real like being royalty, and would much rather like to be a commoner.  She meets first meets Skylar when he decends upon the South Kingdom to speek with the Southern King.  She likes to get into tight situations because all her life she's been cooped up in the castle.

I never really posted the features of this game, so here they are.

-Different types of save points.
-Different character adventures. (Like in FF9 when they sometimes spilit apart)
-10+ dungeons
-Mini-bosses and bosses

Spikes? Well that's the most basic of traps but I'm used to play more strategic RPGs but since these are most likely demo screenshots, this means that it's one of the first dungeon...that would explain the basic traps. Anyway, keep it up!

Okay, it's been a while since I've poseted anything.  This is due to the fact that I've been working on my game alot.  I've decided to change the beggining of may game (for those of you who have played it).  It will no longer be the boring "talk to people and get treasure chests".  No, I have decided to make it action packed with events to really get the gamer into it.  I've also added a few more twists to the plot and the gameplay has been updated as well.  Now, the choices you make will affect where or what you do next.  So with this in mind, I'm expecting to show some screens soon once I get a few more maps done.  My next demo will not be until much later because I will try to make it as best as it can be.  Well, thats it.  :D

I decided to have a menacing race of monsters in my game.  For all of you who've played Xenosaga1 or 2, know what I'm talking about.  They will be kind of like Gnosis (Xenosaga) but not exactly like them.  They'll be like them in the fact that they will be there. (lol)  But they will be nothing like them in their purpose or origon, etc, etc.  Anyone have any comments?

I'm not a fan of Xenosaga as you well know but the whole monsters roaming the land seems good. Reminds me of one of my PC game but the game is pretty good so it can't hurt, hehe. Of course they should/will be blood-thirsty beats...like your average monster, hehe.

Yea, they'll be killing alright, lol.  But it will have a definet purpose.  It wont just be sesnless bloodshed.  I wont give away their origin on hear, because it will give things away.  But if any one is interested, I will most likely post why they came on my website.

P.S.- Im still in the process of designing what they should look like.  If anyone has any suggestions or pictures, I could use the help.  :D

Im thinking of changing my games title.  I realized that Carpe Diem: The Power Within did not fit my game.  Hm..... I'm going to think of a name for a while.  The only thing I could think about based upon my games story is  Alpha Soul: Episode 1 or SoulSaga: Episode 1.  If anyone can think of a better one, it might help.  Ill also need an edit on my title too, so that would be appreciated.

I like both of those names. Though I think SoulSaga sounds a bit cliche, so I personally would go with Alpha Soul.

*phew* heres your chapter pic ^^

I added a little twist to it though ^^

When importing as a [GLOW]Picture[/GLOW], make the reddish colour in the background transparent, then, on th the map where you plan to show the chapter name, Place some kind of paralax moving background behind it (When testing it, i used a cloudy BG and it rocked!!!, go on MSN l8r and i'll send the panorama ^^).

trust me, it looks really cool when u do this ;)

Okay, recently I've been working on maps.  I am remaking my 1st demo as you all know, and it is coming along slowly but surely.  A while ago I posted about some creatures I will have.  Well, they are actually extremely important to the storyline.  So here is the description and story behind them.



They are called Zylacs or Zylaks.  They are weird looking creatures that came from the future.  What is very wierd about them, is that they don't have a past.  Meaning that they were only there in the future.  But are now here in the present.  They have no backround behind them, no information on them because they were never even seen or talked about.  Not even in myths or anything of that sort.  While their true purpose on the Earth (Grepher) is still a mystery, they always appear at the peak of danger.  Although they look like regular Alien-like creatures, they are actually very smart.  They carry out coordinated plans, and are very strong.  With the low technology of the current time, they are very hard to fight off, and 90% of the time are left alive only to leave behind hundreds of dead civilians in their wake.  They vary in size and shape, but they still have a distinct look in them.  All hope for humanity is rapidly fading.  The problems of the people and the Continents do not even come close in comparison to the Zylacs (Zylaks).  but humanitys savior is not far.  It will arrive soon, and unleash its awesome powers to help protect this world that he was built to protect.

And here is what one of their forms looks like.  This one is called a Reaver.

Thx, dragoninja!  Yes, I do think my map skills have definetly gotten better.  But I couldn't have done alot of it without the basic layouts by a few people on charas.  :D

Anyways, I just finished my new skill system which someone helped me with.  Here it is.

The skill system is kind of an extention to the default skill system if you will.  Heres how it works.  Each character has a maximum amount of skills they can have at once.  For instance, Skylar can only have a maximum of 8 skills learned.  But Zephyr, being much stronger, can have a maximum of 15 skills.

Now, whenever a skill is learned, that characters max number of skills able to hold is filled up.  So what happens when you exeed the limit?  Well, there is a special item/place (dont know yet) that holds the skills that are not able to fit into the characters max slots.  So whenever you get to this special place, or get to the place where you can use the item, you can switch skills.  

Thats bascially it.  I might add a rare item that lets you increase a characters max number of skills, but thats all and idea right now.  So....tell me what you think. :D

This looks really good... But it's a mixed bag. Some of the maps earlier on in this thread (The one with red carpet all over the floor, for example) Look awful compared to your other maps. It'd be good to work on them. I love the battle screen, though :D

And Moosetroop11, yes, since those maps I have greatly improved.  Alot of my previos screens have either been updated, or trashed entirely.  So my whole game will look like my most recent screens.  And now for an update.


Update:  As usual, everything is going smoothly.  I spent the whole prvious week mapping, and now I am on to eventing.  And honestly, all the events are working very smoothly.  I surprise myself everyday!  If this gret progress continues, expect a demo within the next month!  Stay posted.  :D

Sure thing dude.  ;)  Well, I think its about the right time for an update.....maybe......XD.  Anyways, so here we go.


Update:
Demo progress is back on track.  I took two days off from my game earlier to inform people that I am still alive.  XD  Uhm.....yea...the demo is closing in on completion......I just have a bit of eventing to do, and then I have to perfect the stats, and maybe add a few more skills.  There's also about like 10 read throughs before I post it to check on Grammar, Spelling, Hoe fluent the events are, and if it is interesting or not.  :D  Anyways, so that's basically it.  If I can, I'll post a screen or two in a few days....I might not though.....wouldn't want to give everything away eh?  

Also, I'm glad to see that everyone likes that boss.  ;)  There will be more Zylacs like it so dun worry. :D

Well, it's been a few days since an update, so here it is.

These are four out of six members of a legendary originazation known as the "Arakian Six".  The organizations creation dates back to the time of the appearance of the first Zylacs.  The Organization was made to eradicate the new foes.  It was only composed of the strongest and most powerful of people.  Since the time of the first Six members, each new member had to be the old members son, or daughter.  Like a heritage type thing.  Anyways, so, long since then, and since the uprising of the new Western King 4 years ago, the "Arakian Six" has become a corrupt and evil organization, doing undergrounds missions for the most pay.  Also, since the Originization has been corrupted, the tradition of heritage-to-join has been extinguished, and they now look for the most powerful people.  So, here are 4 of the 6.

Description/Story: ??? is the leader of the group, and at first appearance, is the most mannered and civilized.  He keeps cool all the time, mostly because he always has the upper hand.

Not bad tho there are some similarities with other characters. The first dude looks like Sephiroth. The second dude is cool, masked idiot(see his description). The third one is original tho I wouldn't visit his hair dresser. The final one stand out of the others because he doesn't really fit (IMO). His spiky mohawk and fancy appearance makes him more like a 2005 Boxer....or Mr.T.

It is in the 2nd "area" you go to, so don't tell me"oh, what a crappy easy maze" it's designed to get the player warmed up for the other mazes to come, and also to get some yummy items.;)  Well..........enjoy!:D

Nobody can fix my title?.....meh......

Anyways, time for an update.  I don't have a screen, but I am nearing the demo completion.  Once I get a few more poses, and fix a few things around, I'll be done.  The demo will include: A simple yet fun dungeon, A very hard boss, introduction to many characters, and the History on my story.  Keep a lookout, because the demo is just over the horizon.  :D

to much text compared to how much of the actual game you got to see... I think that you could spice it up by adding some battles to it and more view of the game itself...

Well, no screen today, but I am still working on da game.  Progress is going slowly though due to lack of inspiration, but I will continue to work at it.  I'm currently fixing up the first dungeon you go to.  It will be pretty basic as all first dungeons are....I'll have maybe one puzzle, and a few obstacles.  After the dungeon, I have to make another map, and a few more events, and then I will probably be done.  The demo wont be out for a while though because I'm not inspired......anyways, thre's your update.... :|

Spikes are more a distraction than a trap IMO. Instead of making the player reload, why not just make the hero teleport back to the activation switch?

I saw that image of Zylacs...just can't remember where. So far so good, as always.

Weapon: Guradian Blade, and Blessed Shield
Description/Story: Trance is a very mysterious person, although he is very open.  He speaks as though he has been alive for hundreds of years.  He knows almost everything there is to know about Kelevor (the world).  Currently, he is Rayne's Guardian for life, by the promise of a long since dead friend.  While around her, he keeps to himself, but around others, he is very open.  He is a different type of Guardian, because he is not always with Rayne...only when she needs him, he is there.

Anyways, guys I have a question.  I realized that I don't like the big sword on my main characters back, and It would take alot of work to remove all the swords from all the poses.  So I made this remake of Skylar.  I need an opinion on whether he looks too much likie Cloud.  If so, can someone maybe fix it around or make it look dirfferent?  Thanks for reading. :)

Well, here are three screens, and then I'm gonna continue to work on the demo.  But first an update.

Update: Well, if I fix all the bugs in my game, and finish eventing and mapping the last Village, the demo SHOULD be out by next week.  It's not a gaurantee (sp?) but I will work hard at it.  Also, I've changed Skylars look.  He is no longer a "Cloud wannabe".  He doesn't even use a sword.  In fact, he has two attacks, one which is the standard 'Lightning bolt shot".  And then you can use different ammo, and he will use a second shot.  Anyways, here are the screens.

Well, he has a standard never runs out attack, that is very weak.  And he can also use different ammo for a second attack.  I would make it limited, but I have yet to find a tut. for an ammo sytem that doesn't involve using skills as the ammo.

Here's the way I have it in my game:
Make a "Shotgun Ammo" item.
When you equip shotgun and attack it checks for "Shotgun Ammo".
If there is one it takes one away and he attacks.
If there is none it says "Out of ammo" and he transmutes his gun into a blade and attacks.

Well, I got back from Canada, and had nothing to do since all my friends are on vacation.  So I got right back to work on the game and developed a new system called OTOS. (On The Other Side)  For those of you who have played FF9, it is quite similar to the ATE system.  But I will try and add a few things to it to make it less like ATE.  Anyways, time for an update and then some screens from the new system! :D

Update: I now realize that I will need more time then previously scheduled to get this demo out.  It usually doesn't take me this long, but I have high expectations, so I need to fix EVERYTHING perfectly. :D  I can't say now how long it will take, but I can give an estimate of about 1-2 weeks.  Hopefully, I will have all I need to get this much anticipated demo out.  I don't want to dissapoint my fans! ;)  Anyways, here are some screens from the new system.  You can guess which character pertains to which choice.  Enjoy! :D

No you didn't. You said it's similar to the ATE system in FF9. That's not an explanation. And I haven't played FF9, so that's why I asked for an explanation. And I was joking about the RTP. Power to you if you like to use it, but IMO, RTP looks like crap, and that's why I don't use it.

Well, I agree with the fact that I should have said more about the system, so I'll xplain it.  

And for the RTP, I don't use it at all really.  Just that one house I used it for...but meh, I'm keeping it that way.  ;)


System: Ok, this is a good additional system, because it focuses alot on story, more than a system for weapons and such.  It allows the player to see what else is going besides where the Hero is right then and there.  Although in the story, the Herop doesn't know what else is going on, the player does.  Later on you will be able to even control characters that are doing something at the same time as the Hero.  That's basically it, but it's good for character development I think.  :D

First off...Good job. I like...MOST of the screens. One screen in the town the bridge looked sort of...too close to the ground. How are the enemies poping up? Random or do they just load somewhere then wonder around and attack you? I may have a couple Ideas if they do wander around and chase you down.

Tactics: Fire magic is his specialty, and he is very quick with his bow.  Has great knowledge of the land.
Description/Story: ??? is a hired Guard atc the Eastern Castle.  The East is mainly composed of Oriental people, and outcasts, so ??? sometimes feels misplaced.  He doesn't know how he got there, but he has a mother and father who would never tell him where or when he was found.  But ??? will always have the question burning in the back of his mind.

I have no Idea if you could do this...but it would be worth it to try. First off you will have the normal Aggressive Monsters, going to Semi Aggresive, then to the ones that wont attack unless you provoke them. Now lets say you just got finished killing one of these aggresive type monsters. You get splattered with blood that will cause some of the enemies to run and cause the some to charge. You like this idea? Also the enemies that come charging should be even stronger versions of the monster that you defeated. Also you should be able to wash the blood off in a nearby pool of water or keep a container of water handy for just this sort of thing.

That's a freaking awesome idea, where you have to wash off blood... maybe set it up so every battle adds blood and the more blood, the higher encounter rate? But you're using on-screen enimies for battles...

Even while they are walking around it would be cool...just make fewer aggresive monsters. Make some afraid of ya...but when you get the blood on ya a whole hoard of demons or whatever comes chasing you down. "Uh oh...Get the potions ready!"

Also in mazes you should like make false walls and stuff...you know...stuff that you can walk under. But when you see it you cant tell that its a false wall...it would look real like.

EDIT: I cant wait till  I buy my new PC...Imma install one of the RPG Makers and really get to work. :D

Also I think a good game would be worth the time an effort put into it. :p

Well, it's finally here.  The Carpe Diem: The Living Flame Demo.  There are a few things to note before playing.

 READ THIS BEFORE YOU PLAY!

1. When you get to the point where you only have Rayne and Ellesar, I suggest you use Turbo kick with Ellesar, and heal with Rayne whenever someone is damaged.  This is so you don't lose and then have to start all over.
2. When Rayne attacks, she might dissapear.  Ignore it.  I'll fix it.  Also, her hair will sometimes turn pink.  Along with her costume.  This being because I have not finished recoloring it yet.
3. There might be a place where the speed it either too slow or two fast.  I'll fix it once I find the prooblem.
4. There might be a few mess ups here and there at the last village.  I'll fix those too.
5. The beggining is alot of reading, but bear with it.  It pays off.

Otherwise, thats it.  If you find any problems, please let me know.  But with that said, have funa and enjoy it! :D :D

Yes, that part is very hard.  Use strategy, and try to conserve your items.  Avoid some battles if you can too.  I'll try and re-post an updated version tommorow that will be a bit easier.

Know that the following is what *I* think and if you don't agree, don't say anything about what I said unless it's *your* two cents.

Overall, it's a good game. The couple of 'systems' in the game are good, especially the OTOS(?) one. There are some glitches I've encountered but they will be fixed, as said above.

The demo is pretty much a huge foggy plains where pretty much is unknow, plot-wise. If you find yourself with a favorite characters, it can only mean that they are good in overall. My personal favorite is Trance. Not because I created him but because of the attitude Link gave him. Haru is unbalanced...which is why he is my least favorite.

The castle's map is huge but very empty in various places. The first village you encounter is probably the best map in the demo. The cave is pretty straight forward and can be a real pain to go tru if you ignore what enemy is weak against what.

Equipements are not very frequent since there isn't an 'official' worth-visiting shop because it's still very early. I hate items that heal a percentage of your life instead of a fixed amount.

Yes, I think I made the first dungeon a bit too hard.  Just conserve your items as much as you can.  Also, I will most likely post a second version of this demo, because there are sme things that need a fixin.  So unless you want to wait for the fixed version, go ahead and play. :D

My Review: This is MY HONEST opinion, so if you don't like it, then I'm sorry, but this is how I felt about this demo.

Story: 2/10
There's a story? I don't recall seeing anything about the plot of the game. You start off totally unaware about anything in the game. The intro doesn't explain the game, and it hardly makes sense. You read a couple books about stuff, but there's no base plot explained.

Gameplay: 4/10
Alright, first you're a guy on a flying ship and you need to jump down to somewhere. Where? Why? What's the point? You jump down, and now you're a princess? You walk around, talk to people, read books, and then leave. But wait, now you're not the princess, you're that dude again. You fight, and then now you're the princess again? You fight, and now you're the dude again. WAY too much stuff at once man, way too much.

Maps: 4/10
The maps in the beginning are pretty bad. They're way to big and have hardly anything in them. They're rather ugly in my opinion. They're a little better when you get to Temeri, and that's why you got a 4.

Graphics: 5/10
The charsets are rather ugly in my opinion. I just don't like them. Except for the guy with blue hair (forgot his name) that blackskullwarlock made. The battle charsets are good though.

Difficulty: 4/10
Ok, it's pretty much really boring and then there's a few easy battles, but then you get to the cave. WHOA, now the difficulty just raised about 5 levels! What the heck?! You need to balance the difficulty in the game and have a steady flow for it.

Overall: 4/10
In my honest opinion, I didn't really like this game. It was really boring, and then got hard at the cave. I felt like I was walking around for nothing, because I have no idea what the plot is. It was way too crowded in the beginning with the switching, mainly because the scenes were way too short with the characters and then it switches to another. There was really no introduction of who the characters were, except for the princess, and a tiny bit of Skylar. The maps obviously did not please me. This game could use A LOT of work, in my opinion, but hey, it looks like other people like it the way it is, so don't go changing stuff for one person. That's my opinion of the game, and I was completely honest with everything.

hey linkforce you doing good just you need more balance in the game....like Haru he is alot stronger then everyone in the beginning and kills the soldiers in no time....even with his Dbl attack he should do the same as the other guys just twice...and you shouldnt switch parties....from the guy to the princess....so quickly that kinda throws it off...at least for me...but other then that.....sprites need a lil touching up...battle characters are fine...maps need to be more in depth and filled up....other then that just fine tune and touch up everything and you should be fine

Short review...

Story: -
I will not rate the story, because as this is just a demo, I don't think there's enough story to be able to tell about the game.

Gameplay: 6/10
Your characters are nice, from what I can see. But I have to agree, that everything skips between characters way too fast. I dunno how you could solve the problem, but it needs just a little work.

Maps: 7/10
Your maps are good in my opinion. Others may disagree, but I like them. Clear and not too crowded, yet versatile and detailed. Shweet.

Graphics: 5/10
Your charsets were a little ugly, but the new ones were good. The battlechars were also good. Once you've finished altering them, it'll look good.

Difficulty: 6/10
 - I couldn't find the drop zone originally.
 - The first few battles are strange. Skylar and Stark can only hit for around 20 damage, whereas Haru hits for 180 damage twice. What the hell?
 - Yeah, the cave battles are hard as hell. I died straight away. You might wanna put less spikes or a longer time limit for that puzzle thing.

Overall: 6/10
While I may have given low scores, I like this game overall. To be honest now, I dunno what else to say, except what I already have. Keep it up! ;)

Well, first off, that piece of land next to the lake should go. It's out of place and crowds up the room. And where the forests connects to the bottom of the screen, open that up more, don't make it so narrow. It will make the forest seem bigger, in my opinion. Other than those two things. Looks okay.

Well I played the demo up until serpent cave where the character speed issues became a problem for me. I liked it a lot. You had great use of ff9 music and tales of symphonia sprites mixed with other stuff that was either original or from games i dont know of to make your game a great experience. Well, I dont really have any comment about the snow forest or anything else about the game. Keep up the good work.

Yea, sorry about the whole speed thing.  But if you put the game into rm2k, you can fix that yourself.  Well, I'll do an update I guess.


Update: Well, I took into consideration everyones comments and ideas, and have put them all to work in creating a new beggining to the game.  It wont be switching back and forth through characters, and things have been a bit watered down.  But not for the worse.  Some of the graphics will be remade, while others will stay.  Some events have either been trashed, or edited.  But I've added alot of new stuff.  I'll post a few screens once things get going more. :D

Well, time for a long *** update.  lol  Well since I have alot to say, I'll put it into sections.  Here we go!


Maps: As I said before, some previous maps have been dumped or remade.  I also made some more maps.  They are still in the making.  I already showed the Snow Forest, so here's a Mountain Village, and the Border gate from the Southern Castle leading to the Mainland.  Tell me if it needs anything, and what you think of it. :D



Well, this is the currently unamed Mountain Village.


Here is A meadow that leads to a waterfall in the same village.


This is the waterfall that you can go to from the meadow.  I will add peaceful music to it to give it a great feeling. :D


And this is the Southern Border.  Tell me if the Chipset doesn't match the others in my game please.  Thanks.


Characters: Heres a new character in the game.  He's another main character.

(No sprite yet.  Sorry.)
Name: braz Orblal (Name is lowercase on purpose)
Age: Looks around 25-30
Weapon: Elemental Pinwheels.  (Each side has an element to it.  When you attack, a list of elements comes up, and you can choose to attack with wichever you want.)
Sex: Male
Description/Bio: braz is Rayne's second and final Guardian.  He has a special relation to Trance, although they are not brothers.  Although he may seem cold at times, it is only due to his lonely past.  He always says whats on his mind, and is not afraid to tell the truth about anything.  Although he may seem like a bad choice as a Guardian, he has sworn himself to always bein by Rayne's side.  And he does not go anywhere without her.


Game Progress: Things are going pretty well.  I'm making maps as you can see.  I'm awaiting the new version of Skylar.  So as you see him now, thats not how he will look anymore.  As well as his personality will change a bit.  In a month, I might have a second demo out.  Filled with all the new maps and the new beggining.  It will be longer than the first, and will actualy begin to unfold my confusing story.  lol


Well, that's about it.  Hope you guys liked the update.  I'll post more as more things get done.  Hope you guys like it! :D

Just a little question: How the hell do you get that foam to work on your waterfall? I've tried using it and it never lines up properly.

Cool, I like the new maps, and the new character sounds awesome! I like the pinwheel weapons. Sort of reminds me of Axel from KH:CoM. I can't wait for the second demo to come around. Everything is looking really good.

This is my newest map still in the making.  The forest is called Rowan Forrest.  This is where Zephyr makes his first appearance enterin the present time zone.  Enjoy! :D




Zephyr first arrives, causing the area around him to catch fire.


One Zephyr arrives, you must control him to find your way out of the forest.

The first screenshot is rather average but I like the second one. It adds a little tridimensional feeling but makes the forest a bit mountainous. A cyborg in the middle of the forest is so unusualy but like you said, he's not from Skylar's era.

Overall, nice work.

Site has been updated.  Check it every few days for updates so i dont have to post them here.  Many characters have been added, but no bios yet.  Part 2 to the story has been added, and part 3 is on its way.  Even though i say its up, its not....but it will be.  I'm writing it now. :D

Here are two new screens from Demo 2.  I wont update now, because not much has been done.  I've basically been mapping for a week, and I'm about a little more than half way done.  One I start to really event, I'll post an update.  Dont forget to check the website for bios and story.  And soon to be screens.  You can click on my sig for easy access.  Anyways, here they are.  Enjoy! :D


Alkamar and Rayne must pass through Rowan Forest in order to reach Synka.  When there, she must get a boat and travel to the World Alliance.


Back with Trance, Skylar and Harus side, Trance has been seperated from the two, and has made it to Ridil, the snow village which is under attack by an unknown virus.  The virus has possible leads to the Zylacs.  

Major kudos to Insane for the sick B-chara!

Nice screenshots. I would normally pick my favorite but they both feature my characters so I ain't choosing.

The battle screen could be better tho. Not in term of graphic but how you took the screen shot. Trance looks a bit fused with the monster if you don't look closely.

The second one is a bit plain, probably because it's just a pass of a sort but since it's a bit like a cutscene, it's good enough.

Overall: Nice work, as always.

Yes, the B-Screen may look a little wierd, but you can see it.  As for the other screen, once again, the message is covering alot of the detail.  But you'll see that when the demo comes out.  ;)

Not many replies...;)  Well, the site has been updated with lots of stuff.  Check it out.  Also, I think it's time for an update.

Update: Well, to tell you the truth, I've been working a bit lazy like lately.  I've been mapping, but pretty slowly.  But now I'm going to start picking up the pace, and once I get all the maps i need done, I'll start eventing.  The maps I need are about half way done.  I'll have a set date as when the second demo will be out by next week.  Anyways here's a screen to end the update!  ^^  Enjoy! :D

I just hate when people say that.. No replies my map sucks.... That just makes it childish for me... I love the maps, looks awesome but i dont know if i will keep checking this thread with a patience like that..

The game is one of the top games around here. My opinion by screenies

EDIT: you have 28 pages.. That is pretty much so dont say ppl dosent respond.. Everyone aint online at the same time

I like the screenies and the game itself...

But my problem is that I can't make it past the serpent cave. There's no place to heal/buy items, and I always die by a certain point.

And maxine, as for the war....hmm....well, it plays a role in the game, but not as big as would in other games.  The war only started when thenWestern King died, and was replaced by his younger brother.  So, the war kind of leads to the new King.  Thats basically the point of it.

Well, I need major help.  I need help from someone who knows my story well, and understands the game plot.

I am again not satisfied with my intro.  Intro's are truly my weakest point.  I needsomething Epic...something people will remember.  Some one who has a good knowledgs of my game and about intros, can you please help?  It has to be something very memerable, but pertaining to my game obviously.  I appreciate any help.  If you have a good solid idea, PM please instead of posting here.  Thanks! :D
