Title: Radiance
Post by: Dragonium on April 03, 2005, 06:45:01 PM
Dana. A land in turmoil.

A world that used to stand proud and fair, rich, where princes and presidents and peasants could speak eye-to-eye.

Alas, no more.

Dana has slipped into the hand of corruption. Disputes over riches and power; the irony of wars over morality; and an ancient enemy which threatens to put this pathetic world out of its misery...

Atop all this are the Gods of Dana, offering a hand on occasion to free the people from tyranny and peril whenever they can. Eight celestial beings, ruling over a land where nothing else may lie.

 - Goliath, God of the Planet.

 - Felza, Goddess of Life.

 - Rin, God of Wealth.

 - Corva, Goddess of Peace.

 - Morta, God of War.

 - Iefa, God of Crafting.

 - Benz, Goddess of Magicks.

 - Lakou, God of Music.

They were the beings that controlled the land, creating the provinces and the races. All was well under their guidance.

However, the Gods had one downfall. They were bound to their own Realm, a parallel life to the mortal beings. Any God or Goddess hoping to cross the barrier would risk losing their strength; strength which would take thousands of years to regain...

The final race to be created were the Demons. They were deeply religious and helpful to other Races. However, the Gods disliked them (The reason for this has long been forgotten). So the Demons' crops were not fertilised, they grew slowly, water was unclean, and livestock was prone to disease.

However, despite their many virtues, the Demons were vengeful people. Their priests made a decision that was difficult to comprehend - raise an army, slay the other Races, and get the recognition they deserved. With ungodly speed, they took action, slaughtering anyone who got in their way.

The Gods discovered this. They felt that it was their duty to help the mortals and not abandon their followers. However, doing this would weaken them to a point where, if anything else were to happen in the future, they would be unable to help. It was a difficult decision, but in the end, they crossed over into the Mortal Realm, and stopped the Demonic invasion. They destroyed the Army, defeated the Demons' Matron Mother, Anda, and, because her power was too great to completely destroy, they sealed her inside a Mural in a remote location.

And for six millenia, Dana was at peace.

But it seemed that one Demon had survived; a half-blood, part Demon, part Human. Known as "Harvest", he was obsessed with finishing what his millions of brothers had started. He killed many, gathered their Gatsun (The dark matter that makes up half of a person's soul), and it made him more Demonic, forcing out the holy Kraan. He grows stronger day by day, becoming more Dark and powerful.

And yet, the Gods had no strength left. They could not go to stop him. So, they came up with a novel solution. They would amass their remaining energy, and create a warrior. Someone who could fight for them, stop Harvest from destroying everything. There was only one way it could be done...

Somewhere, on a battlefield in the East, a dying young man closes his eyes...

"Faith is a powerful thing, but it can't justify itself..."

Age: 22
Height: 5'10
Class: Warrior
Weapon: Great Axe
Bio: A young man, who knows nothing of his past. He was entrusted with a difficult task which he knows little about; a task which could affect the future of humanity. He is emotional and deep, but he can also be calm and focused when he needs to - he can accomplish any task when he puts his mind to it. His memory has faded to the point where his first name is all he knows. He is also highly trained with his Axe, although he does not know how or why.
Special Skill: Fated Blade - A powerful strike which can be linked to strike various enemies.

Endair

"Even the lowliest soul deserves a voice of its own"

Age: 182
Height: 6'0
Class: Archer
Weapon: Longbow
Bio: An Elven Ex-Commander, exiled for disobeying his leader's rules. He commanded a large part of the Elven Army, but when he disagreed with the Army's increasingly suicidal protocols, he took up Archery, and urged his unit to do the same. For this, he was banished. He is calm and collected, and hopes that one day he can return to the Army to apologise to his leader and regain his position.
Special Skill: Commanding Soul - A virtuus call which can spur on allies, healing HP and boosting stats.

Karen

http://tinypic.com/fwoche.png

"Wherever we're going, I'm with you"

Age: 21
Height: 5'8
Class: Medic
Weapon: Knife
Bio: An optimistic young Medic from Karika. She is hard-working, but loves to have fun. She is popular and speaks her mind whenever she can. Trained as a Medic, she followed Radian on his journey to "Make sure he was alright". However, she has deeper reasons, which stretch further than anyone can possibly know...
Special Skill: Binding Light - A wave of healing energy removes all impurities.

Karma

"My lady, I will defend you"

Age: 25
Height: 5'10
Class: Guardian
Weapon: Two-Handed Sword
Bio: The Guardian to the President of Merren's daughter. He is courteous and obedient, and will follow the orders he has been given before thinking about his own safety. However, he is strong, courageous and trustworthy with it. When the President of Merren discovered that the realm of Fenne were spending his regular donations on buying forbidden machines for its weak army, the President's daughter was kidnapped. Fearing that she would be harmed, Karma chased the fleeing airships, but was shot down by an unknown source...
Special Skill: Star Lancer - A spontaneous blend of strikes which can cause heavy damage.

Arlan

[Charset in Production]

"Ah, it seems we have company..."

Age: 27
Height: 6'0
Class: Defender
Weapon: Zashi Blades
Bio: Arlan is an emotional young man, who has had his fair share of sadness. His father died when he was young, mauled by a monster which dwelt outside their village. His mother soon shared the same fate. Blinded by his rage, Arlan took his Zashi Blades (Knives designed to be either used to physically attack, or to throw as a Kozuka), and slew the monster. He later joined the Griza Regiment, a small privately-owned Army which had a high success rate. He was away on business when the entire army was annihilated by its enemies. Arlan is the only remaining survivor... Or so he believes...
Special Skill: Kozuka - Draw magic from enemies and use it to strike with incredible force.

Main char info (Others chars when I get round to it):

Radian http://tinypic.com/2khvfa

A skilled soldier, ressurected after he was killed protecting civilians in battle. As a holy warrior, only he is capable of stopping the sinister Harvest, a deadly half-demon, before he draws enough souls to become a true demon and takes the soon-to-be destroyed planet for his own. Can a golden axe, and the heavens above ever be enough to defeat a warrior bent on death and destruction?

Yes, I know it's one big cliche... :D

You're allowed to reply, you know. :)

Okay, new idea:

Pets

It may have been used a lot, but I thought of it and I liked it. Basically, as you walk around the world map, or in towns, you can come across Pet Shops. You can buy pets here, which are just monsters that join your party. You can't control them, they fight by their own will, and if they die they leave your party (You can heal them, but you can't revive them if they fall). I'm thinking that throughout the game, the pets you can buy get stronger, but more expensive. A suggestion for the first pets could be:

Slime - 100 Gold
Bat - 200 Gold
Snake - 350 Gold

And not a clue what comes next.

By the way, the story is coming along well. The hero is currently in the first town, finding out about what the goal of the game is. I think I solved the problem of not throwing all the storyline at the player in one go.

Oh, you took that quiz? My heart is grey, apparently. :)

Anyway, I've done the starting sequence. It sucks, but I've changed it three times, and I can't be bothered to edit it again. There's nothing special in it, it's really all Move Event and Messages.

Anyway, there's now a point to the game. There's an aim to it all. And I've started the first dungeon, the "Enchanted Forest". XD Basically, there's something causing the monsters to multiply, which turns out to be a big mutant wolf type thing. Radian doubts that he can complete his quest, but after you kill the wolf thing, he realises he's in with a chance. Blah, blah, blah...

I need FF6 style charsets. Using "Fixed Graphic" so that normal chars only face up and down is making the game look crappy. It looks crappy anyway, but hey, whatever.

I'll post some more screens later. Character bios to come soon.

BTW, any forest-related mini-game ideas would be greatly appreciated.

god :| you're trashin' ur own game
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 07, 2005, 01:10:48 PM
No, I'm not trashing it, it's just... Mostly dialogue. Is that okay for the first part of a game? There's virtually no action, but what do you guys wanna see?

PS. When the first chapter (Up to the first boss) is finished, I'm gonna send it to people who want it, so you can see what you think of the intro.

EDIT: Vote time! Should I put in a Bestiary (When you access it it shows you details on all the monsters you've fought) or not?

hope ya dont mind, but I'm gonna try and code one for my game :D
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 08, 2005, 09:59:34 AM
Thanks for all the comments guys. Leon, go ahead, I don't know how to do one. Anyways, I'm trying to code the Enchanted Forest (First dungeon) and it's turning out hard. I can't get the monsters right (You can kill them easy, but they tend to wear you down to 0 HP after you've fought a few), and the mapping is tricky. I tried both a CMS and a Dash system, neither worked, so I'm stuck with the DMS and the normal walking speed. I may set it down a notch. How do you guys feel about a character who walks slow?

Aaaaaanyway, I'm gonna try to get the dungeon finished, and I'm gonna go from there. Laters.

BTW, I put Save Points in. It looks cooler.
Title:
Post by: Leon_1990 on April 08, 2005, 04:27:33 PM
let's just say, if its as slow as legion saga1, you owe me a new computer.....
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 08, 2005, 04:30:26 PM
Haven't played it.

Basically, the walking speed is normal -1 (e.g. Slowed down once). Try it, see what you think.

PS. First screen of Forest is done. Will post later.
Title:
Post by: Leon_1990 on April 08, 2005, 04:39:00 PM
thats what speed it is, i think.
The normal walking speeds fine, Usually what i do is
leave it the same walking speed for dungeons/towns and such.
then I slow it down for world maps :D

The screenies looks good.

But reading the first character's "bio" (Which is more like a short version of the story, I guess... O_o), I need to say that you must be able to do better than that. Plz.

BTW, the pet system is cool. But are you going to make a B-Char for each one, or just make them "freezed" (no movement)?

But all around, I think it looks pretty cool. Keep up the good work! ;)

I have to say, Radian's story is staying as is. I'm not gonna change it.

Leon: I'm gonna see if I can have a thing where, after the first dungeon, you can buy "Sprinter Boots", where if you tap Shift, it'll speed you up, and you can tap it again to slow down. I'll need a new walk graphic for Radian to show him running, though.

The pets are on hold for a while. I'll need to write a list of possible pets, and battlechars for them all - They're like characters that join your party, are under AI control, and when they die they leave. I'm thinking you can get them up to Level 5. That'll take a while to implement though.

Anyways, I updated the faces (Sorry Blackskullwarlock, I won't need your faceset any more) and put them in the game, plus I got the message patch so that I know how much I can type on one line. It can only get better from here. :D

I'll keep you posted, and I promise, I will get some screenies up soon.

Well, provided I portray Harvest as a real bad boy, I think it should be interesting to see what people think. I already have a few scenes lined up, and the actual system of fighting Harvest is pretty cool in my opinion.

I'll say no more for spoiler reasons.

Alright, cool new feature time!:D

I don't think this has been done in an RPG before. Anyway, I figured I'd put in a very basic CMS. Basically, press C and it brings up the menu, which is just a set of choices. One of them is "Walking Mode". There, you can change the mode of walking - at the start you get Normal and Hunting modes. As the name suggests, in Hunting Mode you meet more monsters that in normal mode. Later on you'll collect more, such as the Sneaking mode.

Anyways, whaddaya think of it?

I have screenies of it, but my modem is being an idiot. If I can get it to work tonight, I'll post them.

Character Update

http://tinypic.com/2nn1qb
Name: Radian
Age: 22
Weapon: Holy Axe
Bio: A soldier ressurected after he was killed protecting civilians. At first glance, he may seem cold and introverted, and in truth, he prefers to complete the task without considering the other factors. He tries to be kind, but often forgets to think about others' feelings.

http://tinypic.com/2nn3hh
Name: Karen
Age: 21
Weapon: Knife
Bio: Rescued from being mugged by Radian in Karika City. She is a brave young woman who wields a knife and is not afraid to fight to protect those she loves. She works in a Pub and lives with her brother, Sain. Karen secretly has feelings for Radian, although he doesn't know about it... yet.

http://tinypic.com/2nn41k
Name: Sain
Age: 26
Weapon: Sword
Bio: Karen's older brother. He is virtuous and strong, and does all he can to keep people together. He enjoys taking time out from missions, but don't let that fool you - Sain is a great warrior. He doesn't entirely approve of Karen's feelings towards Radian, though.

http://tinypic.com/2nn4h1
Name: Arlan
Age: 29
Weapon: Zashi Blades
Bio: A mystical warrior, and the last remaining wielder of Zashi Blades, special throwing knives that are thrown five at a time. He feels great sadness and guilt as he allowed his village to be decimated by Harvest in the past and could not help. It is this that drives him to gain vengeance for his sorrow.

http://tinypic.com/2nn4vc
Name: Marlin
Age: 28
Weapon: Bo (Staff)
Bio: An energetic woman who enjoys just being in a party with people she regards as friends. While she can seem absent-minded and silly, she is also very intelligent and knows what is best for everyone. She is a brilliant talker, and is very adept with her Bo besides.

http://tinypic.com/2nn6m9
Name: Harvest
Age: ???
Weapon: Great Sword
Bio: Not much is known about Harvest, the great half-demon warrior. What is known by all is that he hungers for power, and to gain this, he draws souls from his victims. He has been known to annihilate entire villages to become stronger. His goal is clear: To take the ruin, which was the former world we know, for his own. He is a deadly adversary, and one to be feared.

Anyways, that's the character update. Post your opinions if you want.

kl, I like the radian battlechar, can u give me some tips 2 making a sprite sized battlechar?
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 10, 2005, 04:58:36 PM
Well, I don't really know how to put it. First, get your charset, and a blank battlechar (144x384). Then, copy the parts of the charset you want, and paste them in. Zoom in to 8x magnification, and draw your poses in pixel by pixel. Try to keep it simple, or you'll not want to do it. But the biggest tip I can give you is to keep importing it into your game and checking the alignment of it, i.e. if it moves around, or moves up and down during the pose. Correct it and carry on.

Trust me, you'll get better fast. That Radian battlechar is my first using that method, and only my 5th I think overall. And it took me an hour, or something around there. It's not that hard when you think about it.

Where is everyone?

Anyways, I'm trying to think of some Customs to add in. So far I'm thinking about a simple CMS to replace my one with the messages, a Caterpillar system, and some others. I'm gonna limit the number of people you can have in your party to 3. Seeing as there are only 5 recruitable characters (Plus secret characters, hint hint ;)), and having four in your party at once is pure madness. Plus it leaves open that extra space for pets.

I'll have some more screenies in a bit. Work is slow today.

i kind of like the pet system, but if i buy a slime in the beginning, i should be able to level it up to be strong enough to not need to buy more expensive ones later, maybe some would have magic, or special skills, dont make them all attackers.

the caterpillar system annoys me. in all games.

that is my opinion so far, pics look good so far.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 16, 2005, 05:24:39 PM
Thanks dude. The caterpillar system has subsequently been scrapped. It was too much work anyway.

I have a proper CMS now. All I need now is to make a spiffy character change thing, and it'll be cool.

Seeing as you all like my screens, here's some more.

http://tinypic.com/4hxwt1

My CMS. Note that the chipset matches my system. Note that I didn't make the Pointer or the Parallax, so thanks to usagi215 and RPG LORD for those. ;)

http://tinypic.com/4hxxcp

The first island of my world map (The world the game is set in is an Archipelago type thing). I just freakin' love that chipset.

Anyways, I'm gonna work hard on the game. And the pets' battlechars. Laters.

BTW, Omega, yes, you can level the pets up. They go up to level 5; you may think that's weak, but the pets obviously won't be as strong as the party members. I could make them go to level 10 if enough people asked.

Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on April 16, 2005, 06:54:40 PM
I've gotta give you extra points for not making the hero of the game some 16 year old super fighter. Way to break away.

Maybe for the pet system you could set it up where the pet is under AI until Lv. 5 or whatever and once it reaches the max you can control it. Kinda like when you have to train your dog as a puppy before he obeys you.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 16, 2005, 07:07:59 PM
That's a cool idea. I guess I could add Taming to that as well, like a minigame where you go to a small map and play a minigame to catch a wild animal. Then after a few battles (I could have it with confuse status so it'll attack you as well) it becomes controllable.

I'll have a think. I need to finish the jail dungeon and test the first chapter. Laters.
Title:
Post by: Omegadestroyer7 on April 16, 2005, 10:40:31 PM
i would make it so the pets need a LOT more exp to level up, then give them bigger stat boosts and a new ability for each level. i would also like a demo for this ASAP if possible, maybe i could beta test it too, i mostly do rm2k3 games
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on April 17, 2005, 10:13:54 AM
Actually dudes, I think the demo is nearly ready. It'll only be very short, up until Karen and Sain join your party, but it'll do. Maybe I should try and flesh it out more.

I also have an announcement to make. You may have noticed Radian's char was FF6 style. Well, I changed it. He looks different now. I changed it mainly due to lack of resources, and that the sideways pose looked weird. I'll show you soon.

Laters.

Thanks for support guys. My mum says I can only use the computer for 4 hours a day maximum, so work will be slow until I can change her mind, or she forgets. Usually the latter comes first.

Anyways, laters.

Okay, good news, bad news time.

Bad news first. I hope I can persuade my mum to let me have more time, to work on my game. Anyways, I just realised the cutscene before the first boss makes no sense whatsoever, and it sucks, badly. So it needs a lot of work. Which will take some time.

Good news next. I only have to implement a few systems, like the blacksmith and finish the party change (I may add a few more characters, but not yet), then I just need to finish the cutscene where Radian finds out what he must do. And then, it's DEMO TIME! :D

Watch this space, not long now.

I'm currently doing some work on my database. All the storyline is getting me down.

Demo soon, stop panicking.

Entertain yourselves with a picture of Arlan.

Have a nice day.
Title: Mega Update Time!
Post by: Dragonium on April 24, 2005, 10:03:18 AM
Okay, mum has said I don't have a limit any more, it was just to show me how long I actually spend on the computer. She has a point :D. But it's all in the name of finishing the game. I don't mind ruining my health as much.

Anyways, updates:

Began editing first-boss cutscene. Now involves a small girl, the first boss is gonna be either a Giant Wolf (Still) or a Giant Wasp. You decide which one, so post your choices.

Started work on blacksmith system. You don't buy weapons, you upgrade them. You can also pay the smith to put extra items in that you have. For example, take Sain's shortsword, and upgrade it with an Ice Shard, to get an Icicle Sword. Blah blah blah.

Nearly finished party change system. Only needs a little more work now.

Added new character.

http://server3.uploadit.org/files/Dragonium-FaceNika.jpg
Name: Nika.
Age: 15.
Weapon: Oversized Boomerang.
Bio: Nika is a boy living on the Central Plains of the Dana Archipelago (That's what the world's called). At a young age, he was abandoned by his parents after they were attacked by beasts when travelling through the plains. These beasts later came to protect Nika, as if they knew that he was their master. He later crafted his large boomerang, and he can also summon in battle. Whether he really understands what happened to his parents, or the task he is trying to accomplish is not known.
Note: Nika also doesn't speak much english. May the Gau-esque moments ensue.

Holy cow, off the first page. :o

Anyways, I've been working on a short project to try and make a basic CBS. I may add that into my game, or I may try it with another, after Radiance is done.

By the way, I changed Radian's attack animation to a battle animation I made. It now has 20 frames, not 3. :D

"Pilfer" is better...

And Sai, I see your point. I'll change it.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on May 01, 2005, 09:23:15 AM
Okay, here's the part where I endlessly complement myself. First, I have succeeded in lengthening the first dungeon. After killing the boss, you have to find the little girl's Doll and Bag (Which she manages to drop in weird places), and then there's another short, trap-filled, monster-infested dungeon underneath the boss' cave.

My CBS didn't work out, so I'm staying with the DBS. However, I just realised how nice my attack animation looks. So that's a plus point.

Expect the demo version end of May. I'd just like a little help - how long should a demo be? I could do with knowing.

*Ego-trip over*

By the way, the Nika thing is staying as is for now. I saw somewhere that in RPGs, the differences between boys and girls are very slight, so I just remembered. And anyway, all of my facesets have that sort of style to them.

Another by the way: I fixed the odd-looking battlechar problem. Realised last night that the background of the battlechar was white, and the battlechar had white in it. Bug fixed.

Wow, that was a pretty big update.

Just this minute finished coding the Rock Paper Scissors style minigame I was working on. I'll test the game in a minute.

I would show some concept sketches I drew, but my scanner is being stupid.

The enchanted forest (I mean the actual forest part, not the underground bit) is nearly done. I just need to think of a good place to hide a bag... *Rubs hands together, evil laugh*

Here's some screens.

http://tinypic.com/4tkavp

Sword beats Axe. Therefore, I lose. Aaww, nuts.

http://tinypic.com/4tkbae

Hmph. I will beat you next time.

Hold on a second... I can't beat my own freaking minigame _sweat_

http://tinypic.com/4tkc9t

That's more like it, bandana-head.

Frrr... That's a few screenies of my first minigame.

New character added.

http://tinypic.com/4u75g5

Name: Endair
Age: 182
Weapon: Longbow
Bio: An Elven ex-commander of a battalion in the east. He was kicked out of the Mit'Atir (The name of his regiment) when he chose to take up the bow rather than the sword, as he did not agree with the hasty and often suicidal decisions of his Captain. He was exiled dishonourably to the northern continents, and told that he must never return. However, with the appearance of Harvest, he knows to seize his chance to capture glory, and regain his honour.

Apparently Photobucket's servers have exploded. Duplicating post, which I deleted.

New screenie, featuring "The Guy with the Axe", and "The 182 Year Old Guy".

I've decided that he joins you soon after the first boss, even though he has next to no relevance to the story (You do have to do his quest later on, though). I have his battlechar done, but I need to finish his attack animation, and I need to sort out his weapons. Basically, he has two weapon slots: In one, he has the Commander Bow (A cursed item, you can't remove it), and in the other, you can equip new arrows. I think I'm gonna set these up as Battle Weapons, so that you can actually see the arrow fly to the enemy.

The only problem with that is his Archery Skills (e.g. Enchanted Arrows), which are elemental attacks. In that case, I'd need to figure out a system that changes Endair's weapon for the attack, and then changes it back afterwards.

Anyways, that's all for now. Laters.

Well, those things are gonna be there, unless something takes my fancy and I wanna use it.

I have to say, rips are definetely not my thing, so I will change them if I can get/make something better.

BTW, what sort of things are "a little tweaking"? I'd appreciate if you'd tell me, then I know how to make it better.

Title:
Post by: Dragonium on May 06, 2005, 04:39:36 PM
Legend of Mana, eh? I'll have to change that, seeing as it's come from a well-known game and many people will recognise it.

I ripped a Bee from a toon I found on Google, but is it any good?

http://tinypic.com/4vjyph

Needs editing and yellow stripes putting in, but it'll do for now. (If anyone likes it, and wants to use it, I'd be honoured - not that anyone will though ;))

By the way, I'd like to make something clear. I know my graphics may not be the prettiest. They may not be the best ever standard. But I try to make most of them myself. Which is what matters to me. So y'all keep your crappy rips. I'm happy with what I have.

Now if you'll excuse me, the demo is coming soon, and I have to make sure my game is better than "Not too bad".  :|

Well, I'm getting next to no support, so I guess I'd better just work harder.

Kardin, thanks for using it. I may do some more rips and stuff later. ;)

I have a little victory fanfare I made attached, but it's too quiet and it loops endlessly. Can someone please fix it?

Here's a boring old battle screen. Nothing special. I'll replace the RTP battle animation when I get a better vertical slash one.

http://tinypic.com/51ca4z

By the way, I have a question: Leon, how the *Censored* did you make that attack animation in your sig? It looks freaking amazing! ;)

Title:
Post by: Dragonium on May 10, 2005, 07:24:35 PM
Sorry, back to that animation in your sig... :D

How did you do it? I can't tell just by looking, did you make the hero turn invisible for his skill use and make that as a battle animation? As far as I know, there is no way to set a Skill Use pose (Not the animation, the pose when the character uses it) as a battle animation. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Anyway, I'm confuzzling myself again. :)

That Behemoth thing is being put to good use. I'm thinking it could be the Kizanam (Read this (http://charas-project.net/forum/showthread.php?threadid=10327&forumid=12&catid=6)). Anyway, it matters ye nott. I'll find some use for it.

The demo will be out in a week or two, providing everything goes smoothly, and I manage to find

- All the resources I need.

- A place to upload the demo.

- A decent Caterpillar tutorial.

The resources I need are

- A decent battle theme.

- A victory jingle.

- A GO.

- A better MIDI than the one I made for a Dwarven Town.

- Some stuff which I've just this minute forgotten, but I'll probably remember a few minutes after I decide not to use it. Meh.
Title:
Post by: Weerd Thing on June 02, 2005, 12:06:03 AM
Hey there Dragonium. I can help you. Take this midi, as a sign of gratitude for what you did for me for my game. :) Hope it's good enough...

W££rd
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on June 02, 2005, 07:42:56 AM
Thanks Weerd, that's helpful. It sounds more like a boss theme, but I already have an idea where I can use it later. So thanks.

And don't worry about it being good enough. A lot of stuff I have in the game at the moment isn't brilliant, but this is great.

Anyway, stuff I have left to do:

- Finish making the first chapter.

- Make that bloody caterpillar system.

- Tie up all the loose ends, like the holes in the party change system.

- Make the blacksmith system.

- Gather all my resources, and have someone test it.

Title:
Post by: Dragonium on June 02, 2005, 08:45:38 PM
Well, actually, I just thought of it.

I'm getting pretty tired, but of course, it's half-term here, so I have the rest of the week to myself. Expect plenty of screens tomorrow, depending on how much I get done.

By the way, another question from me. Don't worry, it's an easy one. Do you guys use a single "Bad Status" pose, or separate poses for each status effect? At the moment I'm doing the latter, and I just would like to know. As a matter of opinion.

By the way, the demo will be slightly late (I have some serious editing of maps to do, to make them as pretty as Leon's ;)), but when it comes, please don't complain if there's a slight lack of story. I'm having trouble packing everything into the gameplay I have so far (About 10-15 minutes, depending on how crap at puzzles and battling you are).

Anyway, laters everyone.

Here's one screen which I'm pretty proud of for some reason.

http://tinypic.com/5me7aw

And the party fighting a Lizardman. These guys are a pain to fight, mainly because they keep Lizard Kicking you and confusing your party members. A Medic with a knife who is confused is not a good person to have around.

I know, I've tried all the supposedly foolproof things to fix the font, but they don't work. I looked in my Fonts folder for Rm2K3, and it says both the fonts there are .TTC. I've been taking a little break from the game 'cos of a lot on at school. But I think I'm now ready to continue. The demo will be ready shortly after I get working on it. Which means, if anyone has some tips, suggestions, or comments, you must speak now, or forever shut yer trap.

I still need:

 - A battle theme.

 - A good battle animation for a Holy spell.

 - (Optional) A charset of an old lady sweeping with a broom.

You will be getting credit.

Here's a little breakdown.

What I've done this weekend.

 - Make a map of a snack bar that will do crap all except act as a hotel.

 - Get my Dwarf Town MIDI fixed. Thanks Weerd!

What I have left to do.

 - Do the cutscene right before the demo ends.

 - Fumigate all the Bugs.

I'd just like to tell you that as far as I can see, the demo is pretty much ready. I'm not going to do a big thorough bug test, since

a) I won't find all the bugs, because I know where I should go, but people who play the game won't (If that made sense).

b) There are inevitably going to be bugs anyway.

But, as we stand, I'm fairly happy with it. When it's done, feel free to review it, and then report any bugs you find. I'd like to know all of them.

So, I'll do one last look at my maps to check I've done everything, and then it's onward...

--KNOWN BUGS--

 - In the Sword Spear Axe minigame, every time it's a draw, Radian steps back. Which means he can go way back (But you won't likely get too many draws in a row).

 - At the end of the demo, Radian is still on the screen when he's not meant to be. Sorry.

 - I had it set not to show the title. If you're wanting to see the title, open the game in Rm2K3. My fault.

By the way, what's a good name for a Skill set that a ninja would have? Anything better than "Jitsu"?

I think I'll go with Bushido (Bushido is usually Samurai skills).

I liked your demo, but I wasnt able to find the girl's bag. I searched where the mushrooms were, but couldnt find it. It's ok, though. I got to see enough of it to tell it's gonna be a great game. Except one thing went wrong. When I beat the boss, the battle music disappeared. Otherwise, keep up the great work!

Hey, thanks. I'm going to release an updated demo with all the bugs fixed ASAP. I'll try and fix what people say doesn't work.

By the way, as to your problem, try investigating that screen in a bit more detail. Try checking out the local wildlife... ;)

Uhm...

After the Conversation in the dream with that Goddess....when I talk to that Person, who ask me if I'd like to stay for a night.....it repeats again, like if I come there for the first time...

Where do I have to go after I defeated that Wolverine? I can't seem to go back, the way I come from....?

Well, I just got done with the demo, ans I was pleased.  It was pretty good and worth the wait.  I liked the mapping, but I didn't like the fact that there were no healing items.  It was real hard to beat the boss.  You might want to make his HP a bit lower.  Anyways, here are my grades.

Story-7

Graphics/Mapping-8

Music-7

Programming-8

Eventing-6

Overall it was good.  Looking forward to the rest of it. :D
Title: New character added.
Post by: Dragonium on July 02, 2005, 08:20:20 AM
http://tinypic.com/6o09rn.png

Name: Karma.

Age: 25.

Weapon: Merren Blade.

Bio: A royal guardian to the daughter of Merren's president, he was put in charge of her at an early age. When the realm of Merren discovered that the kingdom of Fenne was syphoning money from trade and spending it on war machines, the president raised an alert. The palace was quickly attacked, and Karma defended the president's daughter with his life. However, in an act of cowardice, the soldiers of Fenne abducted the president's daughter. Karma then volunteered to board an airship to Fenne to take her back.

Unfortunately, on the way, the airship was shot down by an unknown source, and Karma was stranded on Lizard Island, where he met Radian.

Title:
Post by: Dragonium on July 02, 2005, 05:08:19 PM
Merren Blade: A double-handed sword, with a rounded tip. It is often very sharp, and can cause good damage. It is also against the law for anyone except a citizen of Merren Realm to wield a Merren Blade in battle.

(Note: That charset will be changed; I want him in royal-looking clothes, rather than armour)

Finished work on Karma's basic battlechar. I know there aren't many poses, but that's because

a) Karma only has three in-battle options, so I don't need many poses.

b) I'm using battle animations for his attack and skills.

c) He's status-proof (But that comes at the price of not being able to use items or run away).

(Oh, and I had to look at Insane's template to get the dead pose right. Thanks Insane!)

Frankly, I'm not happy with this game.

I get no support, and next to no praise for anything. In fact, since this thread was made, aside from a few people, this thread has been completely ignored. I'm not asking for you to say "WOW THIS IS AWESOME" to everything, I'm just asking that you pay a little more attention, instead of running off to some other thread.

I know what Leon means about being ignored.

So, if I don't get a little more support for this game, I'll decide what I want to do. I may put this game on hold for a while to work on SoulClash more. I don't know. What do you think?

EDIT: I'm gonna work on SoulClash a little more. I may update in my old thread, or I may not. Either way.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on July 08, 2005, 11:30:33 AM
... And this thread is still being ignored...

I hate you all.

I have had no help with this. Just complaints. Every time I do something to the game, someone says something along the lines of, "This sucks". Or "This needs work". Or "You don't work hard enough". Everything I do.

Even the newb/n00b games get more praise than this.

So I may be leaving for a while, until anything changes.

Oh, nice gun smileys.

N00b.

And anyway, no matter whoit's for, it's still resource stealing. You can just use a Google search, instead of stealing them. _sweat_
Title:
Post by: Jaded Rockstar on July 08, 2005, 11:42:31 AM
No, i didn't STEAL them, I just BORROWED them. And I ain't no n00b, n00b. But, let's calm this down. or this could get locked.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on July 08, 2005, 11:44:38 AM
1) You can't technically give them back, if they're already mine. So it is stealing.

2) I'm no n00b. You're the one who joined a few days ago, and whose first post was a request, and who is addicted to gun smileys. Not me.

3) I take it you're pretty eager to defend yourself. Well, this thread gets no attention anyway. If it gets locked, no biggie. _sweat_

Of course, the final decision is up to you, I liked this game when I played it, and I think it had something going for it.  I think that if you still want to continue this, you should sit down, and seriously rethink the things you dont like or want to remake.  The final decision is yours though.

Well, it's not really that I'm unhappy with the game itself, it's just that I'm a little annoyed that other threads get more attention/help/praise.

BUT.

I have decided to continue with this game. I have an idea for another cutscene, and a few story twists. Won't tell them, because of spoilers.

I'll get to work.

1.Dragonium. You cant complain just cuz someone aint typing here. Its their choise. And when you say "this is still being ignored" you just make it so it will be new post and more will check it. Pretty n00bish too say like "i hate you all" just cuz people dont wanna type here loOOOool. Im not saying you are a noob just that that sentence was noobish.

2.Your game has very much movies. I kinda fell asleep. I turned off when i came too the dream at the INN cuz then it had just been movies and movies and movies.. But its your game. Or is it a movie maybe? (kidding =P)

Lack of help stunts your games development. And thusly, disallows you to complete it.

but, If I see you quitting this and going back to soul clash dragonium, I may lose my respect for you. If RPGLORD and I can work on our games with minimal (next to none more like...) help, surely you can too.

I have the same problems. My game thread "Wishes of the Past" is mostly comprised of me giving updates and subtle bumps.

It's wierd. At first, you get about a page of people liking the story, and then after the first page, the thread dies. Not because the game isn't finished, but because people stop checking it out.

Yet, with the fangames, they are filled to the tip with people wanting to help out and give advice.

I still don't get why people always need so much help! It's not like there arent hundreds of decent resources and stuff on the net... And you can make your own sprites Dragonium, so why worry?

I don't even bother posting updates on my game.

The game is looking great, although I've lost a little respect for you from your strange, uneeded outburst of hatred.

I think the best thing you can do is not say a word about your game until you have a lot to it. Then it'll come all at once and your thread may not last forever, but people will see and play your game. Well, since you did post about your game with just a demo as many people do, I think the best thing to do is let this thread go and then when you have a big update on your game, post a new thread. This is why you haven't seen me say anything about anything I'm working on. I'll start a thread when the game is ready to go. I would be disappointed if this project was dropped, but it's your decision.

1) If it was n00bish to do that, I'd like to know why your member title is "The noob". XD

2) How would you like the demo to be?

Okay, I'll clear everything up.

 - Linkforce: Thanks! If we motley crew of programmers can stick together, why shouldn't a bunch of n00bs going "j00 suxx0rz omfg PH34R MY 1337nEeS lol", just bounce off us, right? ;)

 - Leon: I guess you're right. To clarify to everyone (At least, everyone who reads things in italics), Radiance is continued as of now.

 - CoolZidane: Damn right. Why the hell do the fangames get all the attention, anyway?

 - MooseTroop: Things like these need more than sprites. First, I need a little more than endless criticism. Yes, constructive criticism is required for a good game. But not endless criticism. Sorry to hear you've lost respect for me. Believe me, I have those "unneeded outbursts of hatred" all the time.

 - charaman: Sorry to hear that. Good luck with any games in the future.

 - Insane: I agree too. The only trouble is, when you need people's support to continue a game, and you don't get any, you don't have anything to post, so the thread dies; vicious cycle. Naargh.

 - coasterkrazy: Can't think what to say. :D Thanks for posting anyway.

Hell. Funny how once something like this happens, the thread gets so many replies.

I think I've learnt something about the way people think. Thank you all. I'm off to continue the game.

And i would want the game too make you play the beginning. Not just watch it. So you can controll better and it makes stronger feelings for the story as a player

I'd like to clear this up. This is not an all-action game. It is a delicate and slow story of feelings and storyline, etc. Not a smash-em-up killfest.
Title:
Post by: Leon_1990 on July 09, 2005, 01:29:59 PM
I understand what maxine is saying, But the intro's style helps set teh mood for the game. Dragonium has decided to make the game focus more on emotions rather than action, which i must say is quite refreshing to see after all of these "soulless" rpgs people tend to make today.

I would any day play an rpg where you can grow attached to the characters , than one that revolves solely on the "action"

Woo, second page...

I've been gone for a few days, but now I am well and truly back with a vengeance. Did ya even notice I was gone? :D

Anyways, now that I've started focusing on emotions more than action, the game is looking better than ever.

What I'm doing at the moment: Trying to make a pose for Radian carrying Karen over his shoulder (Like Squall/Rinoa in FF8... Near the end of Disk 3, I think...). It's frickin' hard, but once it's done, the game'll be lookin' good.

I may do, but probably only as an inside joke. There are a lot of inside jokes in the game that only Charas members will know about.

No, I will not put you in on request, but if I feel like it, I'll sneak some people in as I see fit.

Maxine, thanks.

Omega, thanks for your support. As to the demo (And this goes for everyone), I'm sorry about the bug with the little girl. I'm afraid it has me beat. I just don't know how to fix it. If anyone can fix the problem, please send me the fixed version. I've tried and failed, so you will recieve uber-credits.

Grsh, seems like nobody is interested except a select few, but I'll continue anyway.

I'm currently working to complete the ship scene. However, this will include some intense coding, as I have a mini-game I'm trying to make. Basically, the ship Radian is on, while travelling east, is mistakenly attacked by Fenne Airships. The ship gets bombed and starts to sink, then they start slinging arrows at you. So dodge those arrows, boy! ;)

Oh, and I finished a new charset. This is Klorik the Alchemist. He's a support character in Merren.

Meh, it's meant to be a potion bottle, 'cos he's an Alchemist. It doesn't look right, I know. His weapon is a Spear, even though he doesn't do much fighting at all.

In fact, virtually all he does do is complain and get himself put in jail. O_o

i've tried many times over, and i never use your site that you have hosting your demo, but it still refuses to let me download it, saying that i have used it too many times. but i am still interested in it, and trust that it is good! i like the new character though.

Meh, it's a little temperamental sometimes. The link should be at the bottom of the page, it'll tell you to wait for a minute for a "Download Ticket" or something, then you can DL. Dunno what's up.

Anyways, I've made a decision. The mini-game wasn't working, the coding sucked, so I decided to replace it with something else.

Well, basically, every game needs a little romance, right? I'm trying to make a cutscene (For on the ship) which shows the relationship begining to appear between Radian and Karen. I'm going to hand-draw it, so it'll take a while to do each frame. I will probably make it black and white, unless I can find a way to colour each frame and make it look good. There'll be a lot of frames though. I will then need a way to make an .AVI movie, so if anyone can recommend some freeware (Because I'm a tight git with no dosh :p) to do it, I'd be very grateful.

Anyways, off I go to do some drawing. Joy. :)

EDIT: Question: Should I do it as an animation, or do it as a series of stills? I suppose stills would add to the effect better, but would you rather see it animated?

Meh, two new screens from the Lizard Isle. I decided to use it after all.

I'm pretty proud of the mapping in these. It's all come from looking at Robotam's screens. Robotam, I might as well give you credit for all the help you've given me with these maps, although you might not know it. ;)

Meh, I'm having trouble making it look more interesting. I was going to have shadows darting around on the edges of the screen (Moving away and disappearing so that you're not sure if you actually saw them) to make it more mysterious, but

1) It could give too much away.

2) I need that charset to get the shadows the right shape. Of course, I could just have weird distorted ones, but it might not work properly.

At least, I think that's what you meant. I'm confuzzled. :S

EDIT: CRABS!!

No, I didn't mean that in a dirty way. Yes, sit down. No, put the gun away. That's the way.

Shadows would be good.  But I mean like adding tall grass, or bushy grass.  Or rocks or an oasis or something.  Is it a desert?  Or am I seeing things?   Nope, its a beach.  Scratch the Oasis thing.  XD

Maybe add some crabs or Seagulls, or some sort of beach creatures.  You have to make things going on.  Just a suggestion. :D

I've decided, that there will be a second demo. It'll mean more work for me, but if I get more help and support from it, I'll be happy. It may not be as long as the first demo, but it'll feature some of the systems I propose, a better chunk of plot, Karma, and of course, no small annoying bugged-up girls called Sally. Aargh. I hate you, you little brat.  :frag: <--- Sorry, it had to be used.

I don't have a deadline thought of, but I still dunno how much work I have to do. I have some resources I need finished first.

On a different note, I decided not to make Karma status-proof. Instead, I gave him some weak magic, to go with his sword-skill. But should it be elemental magic, or status magic? Feedback, please.

Meeeeh.

Hahah, thanks alot Dragonium.
Those maps are indeed good, but I believe your forgetting something I said in the tutorials. Make the ground vary, put some grass in it. Other than that, it all looks very nice. :)

I never played this, demo. But I promise I will as soon as I can get some time too.

Thanks. Yeah, that's Karma. Character design on him took a while. ^_^

I have Karma's battle animation done, but I'm not really that happy with it. It's too fast and light. I want a more slow and heavy slash. You know, Auron style. :)

I better get back to working on it.

this game looks really good but i'm having a hard time wanting to support it, for someone to complain about being ignored is very n00bish and very unattractive to see in a thread, we all have to appreciate the comments we get, if they say its bad it's called critic, so fix what they say is bad and show them a thing or two, otherwise i''m sorry but i probably won't constantly check up on this thread, especially when your arguing with someone in the thread.

Whee, thanks. It's a good sign when people have a favourite character. It means your character design has been successful. Personally, I think Arlan is better, but obviously, you haven't seen him in action yet. I'm doing a custom Charset for him, so I'll do that sometime and show you.

Aaagh. Dragonium, you suck. How could you forget to mention the Redux System?!

Redux System

Basically, it's a snazzy Limit Break system. Simply put, when a character gets to below 10% health (An item later on can increase to 15%, meh), their battle commands disappear, and the can use a Redux move. For example, Karma's Kujai Lightning. Simple, really. Not exactly an original idea, but still, I'm using it.

Tried your first demo, great game, the random battles are alot of fun, unlike casic rpgs like ff where you battle if you want, or don't want. Least you can skip those battles. Cool monsters and all that stuff. Just really really great battles.

The intro was too long, and that's about all I'm going to complain about. Or is it..... nope, I got one more. In the begining, your maps are very... how you say.... pointless. Like, the walk from the cave to town. A: how did you originate at the cave? B: you can't go in the cave, which angers me. and C: at least you could put random monster battles there on the way back to the forest once you get the golden axe. They arn't well made either, and i'm talking about the same maps. Your other maps are very nice looking in-game.

So other then that, really nice game. Kinda cliche plot with the whole proficey (i know i spelled it wrong), but not bad.
Like i said, the monsters, battle animations, and everything else is just wonderful, keep it up!

Uh-huh.

Yeah, I need to get the intro fixed. Firstly, it's long, I know. But everything in that intro is important. It doesn't seem so.

And your questions.

A: That is explained later in the story, sorry.

B: That is also for a very good reason.

C: I know. But that walk is integral to the game. The village of Merion comes into play later on. I know I say that a lot. But it does come into play. I may try and redo those maps. I'll certainly jazz them up a little. No worries.

I know the plot is cliché, but the prophecy is only one element of it. I know, I've done it all, and I believe that most of it is quite unique. :)

Thanks for your opinion, anyway. ;)

I see a couple of pages back that you went umm.... "haywire"? when someone stole something from your game. I'm in the process of making an ABS, and was wondering if you could give me the chipset to your lizard island thing. Also, i'd like to use two of the maps you already made because i think that they are so freaking awsome looking in-game. Just, you know, asking for premission so that you don't get all freaked out when you see my game coming round with something that looks almost like the same map that you had with minor edits. :D

Also, jazzing the maps up was exactly what i ment, so you're on the right track. Played your demo again, loved it that much. Must complament you on that machine gun boss, he was like the coolzors.

Again, keep up the good work.

Forgive me for the double post, but I want to know if you're still planing on doing the whole buy a monster pet thing. Because, I have quite a few monster pets that you could use. Though, they are "slightly" bigger bcs then your bc characters, because they are monsters that can be easiy wavered.

Example, i know you have a slim, so try this.

Anyways, on a positive note, I finally figured out how to make the change party system work. I know the screen looks like crap, but believe me, working with so many bugs is hard work. ;)

Title: Update...
Post by: Dragonium on October 22, 2005, 06:32:45 PM
Okay, I haven't been able to do much work recently, because I didn't have the charset I needed. The game has been pretty much dormant. But that set is currently being worked on, so now I can get my arse back in gear. :)

Anyways, I've figured some things out.

 - I'm bored of the crappy Facemaker PL charsets I have. Because I only use facesets in the menu, I can change them damned easy. So I want a change. I think I might like to go with FE style, although that could take a while. Or, alternatively, hand-drawn from scratch, like Tomi's great faces. ;)

 - I now have a Custom Shop System, which I'm happy with. It has a few bugs (If there is a number with a 0 in the middle of it, like 209, the 0 doesn't show up, no matter how hard I try to fix it), but with some more work I can probably get 'em working. Here's a screenie to keep you happy. :)

http://tinypic.com/etvfpz.png

 - I have several plot twists in the pipeline. Should keep you surprised.

 - There are many new characters, some of whom are temporarily playable. The idea is to give many different viewpoints of the world, and not all of them have anything to do with Radian's story at all. For example, Reke the Thief and Rufus the Youth Soldier. Not to mention Klorik the Alchemist and good old Sytel. You'll come to hate him and love him, trust me. :D

 - Look out for plenty of little inside jokes. And some inside jokes which are actually secret little hints. Follow them and there are some nice rewards on offer. The world is now far more interactive than before, so take a good look around, you never know what will happen. The world can be affected by the smallest of actions. Do you walk on the path, or walk through the patch of flowers, scattering pollen and making flowers grow all over the place?

Until next time, then...

Heh, well, this fruit has special healing properties. Healing to the soul. Which worded like that is such an obvious drug reference I'd better put it a different way.

The fruits are healing items. Yeah, that's better.

I did Radian in FE style, and I think it's pretty good.

Post by: Dragonium on November 16, 2005, 07:49:39 PM
Okay, things are going slowly, since I have a bunch of stuff to do at school. Graphics Products is evil, and it eats my free time. But the game is still chuggin' along, and I intend to keep it that way.

Anyway, two new sets. One which I'm happy with, and one that I need an opinion on.

http://tinypic.com/ftj712.png

Here's Mack, a support character, who reveals a small part of the side-storyline, and has a little play section with him while he's out in the desert looking for treasure. Think a cross between Gerik and Cid (Minus the cigar). You get the idea.

And the other set. I've become really sick of the crap generated Radian, so I remixed him. I think it's much better, but I'm not sure whether you like it too.

http://tinypic.com/ftj81l.png

... Compared to...

http://tinypic.com/ftj886.png

I'd much rather just stick it in right now, but, of course, that would mean I'd have to remake all three charsets of Radian's poses, and his battlechar (Which was needing a remake anyway). It's only a small problem, and if you think it's worth me doing it, then I will.

Peace. ;)
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 16, 2005, 08:09:18 PM
I think you should have both, but change it to one later in the game. Both are good looking, but the blue one makes in look a little.... weird. Like, sence you used a refrence to FF I'll make one, if you've seen the ads for FF12, and if you've seen Van. Notice that he looks sorta werid with his cloths and skin and crap, well that's what the new Raiden reminds me of.

Oh, and mack is pretty sweet lookin.

Not sure I understood that.

You mean with the waistcoat thing? Because it's always been that way - it's just his outfit, and it has been since I started this game. Or do you mean that it blends in with his skin? Because all that needs is a little line. I have noticed that his blue collar starts to blend in as you look at it.

I like the idea of changing to one later on, but since the two sets are in different styles, it wouldn't look great.

But thanks for your opinion. It's really helpful to know what people think. ;)
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 16, 2005, 08:40:52 PM
Yeah, I ment is blend into his skin to much. Van, the FF dude, had very white skin with a yellow coat, so everything just blended and it didn't look like her was wearing anything, so you got it down perfect. And the waist coat, I know it's been like that, just it's more noticible now.

Idle pose en? Well, is he still using that great big axe? If so, I would it would look cool if you had it slumped over his sholder, but that all depends too. I mean, I don't exactly think that the giant gold colored axe would look real great next to blue and white. But, I do like the axe ability, so don't change to a sword whatever you do, because that's uber cliche. Just change it's color to silver axe or something.
Title:
Post by: Dragonium on November 18, 2005, 08:44:08 PM
Good point. I'll change the axe to silver/steel - I was thinking of doing so anyway, so it's good to know you feel the same way.

As to the pose, the axe over his shoulder would look good. But how would I get from that to an attack pose? There are only two I can see.

1) http://tinypic.com/fuz280.jpg

Obvious. Switch hands from left to right, then swing over-the-shoulder. Makes the axe look nice and heavy, and should be simple to make. Easy to get back to Idle too.

2)

More elaborate attack. Run forward, do a little 360° spin, then swing the axe upwards in a golf swing. Would look good, but I reckon it'd be hard to make. I may use it as a Critical animation, if not for a basic attack.

ZKX: Hehe. And if you want to try the face, feel free. I don't need it, and I don't want to take up your time, but if you want to, then sure. ;)
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on November 18, 2005, 10:50:56 PM
Well, I'm assuming you've played the fire emblem games. You could always do it the way the upgraded Hector did it from fire emblem... forget the name. #6 or something. If not, what he does is he brings the axe off his sholder and let's it hit the ground, then does a running/horizontal, slash from there. Dunno if it would work for you, but thought I'd suggest it.

It'll look sorta like this. However, I'm not real great with paint, so this'll look sorta shitty.

Edit: Now that I look at it, I drew the Idle Pose completly crappy and unlike what I think we both thought it would look like. But, hopfully you'll get the jest of what I ment to draw.

These are all the games I found containing the word "Radiance".

 - Fire Emblem - Path of Radiance

 - Pool of Radiance : Ruins of Myth Drannor

 - Radiance Software (Game Producer)

 - Radiance > Games > Charas Forums

You're not supposed to double post, use the EDIT button to say something new instead. Also, if you're going to ask people for help, do it over PMs. We get enough people asking people to code everything for them as it is.

Just to say that I have a small site for Radiance. It has nothing that isn't on this thread, but I'm adding stuff.
Title: Update!
Post by: Dragonium on December 17, 2005, 05:06:06 PM
Okay, I'm working at a slow pace on the game, because I've been working on completing one of the goals I had for this game, and I've finally reached the point of completion.

I am completely inept with MIDIs. I can compose songs well, but I can't write them down, or put them in Anvil Studio. But I've been practicing with pressing the right buttons, and I've finally got to the point where I can manage.

I always wanted to be able to make a MIDI of my own, that was of a reasonable standard, and that I could use in the game. And I've managed to do so.

I will be making more and posting them as I go.

Please please please tell me what you think of my composing, and I'd appreciate some ideas on what to do next.

So here's Draggy's first MIDI. It ain't as good as other people's, but I'm learning.

I won't say what this song is for, as I'm a complete bastard. :)

It would be easier to rate it if me knew what it's for. I don't really like the sounds chosen, but the pattern you placed them in works fine. And lastly, the first 10 seconds are pretty bleak. That's expected, however, the midi is only 42 seconds long, meaning that 25% of the time you'll be listening to bleakness.

That's my opinion on it.

I don't want to give too much away, but it's to be used for an area with a small shrine to the last person to attempt to save the world, where he wonders whether he's doing the right thing, whether he can succeed, whether it's all completely pointless anyway. As I've said, it's a fairly important scene, so I can't say too much.

I see your opinion on the sounds, but I chose them to fit with the theme of the area and the scene; it is somewhat bleak and empty, but it's spiritual as well. I chose Kalimbas and Panpipes for that reason, but what instruments do you suggest?

And as to your point about the shortness of it, should I lengthen it?

Lengthen- Yes
Sounds- Now that I know what it's ment to be used for, the sounds are suddenly suitible. I'm not real great with instrament names anyways.
Bleakness- Yes, I see what you mean now.

You might want to put a more supporting bass in of some sort.  Also, since it's a shrine to a hero, you might want to add a trumpet and/or french horn with (a) mellow tune(s) to make it sound more awe-inspiring (the french horns always work, like in National Treasure).  I like the basic tune though.

I like it. Nice job!

Sometimes you can get away with lengthening things by throwing in a part you used already, but change what follows it or edit it a little. I also agree with crossfire that it might need just a little bit more bass. But besides that, I really like it!

EDIT: It's also a hell of a lot better than my first midi.

I havn't really had a lot of time to read everything here, so I may be asking a stupid question, but if you would be so kind, I would LOVE to know who made your battle-characters! They look really, really good. Reply whenever ye can, I just gotta know!

The game seems really interesting. I love the characters, not only do they look good, but they have a bit more depth in their personality than most characters do in some of the RPGs I've seen. The idea of sprite-sized battle characters has always seemed like a good idea to me, it shows a bit more proportion. I think the axe looks best gold, it gives it more 'zing' than a normal iron/steel axe would. All in all, this is a pretty good game! I like it, and I'll definitely play the full version!

I just wanted to let you all know that both I and Radiance are alive. Hoorah. I haven't been completely dormant, either. Another good chunk of plot is written, some concept art is done, and various other crap.

I'm around 45% of the way through Chapter 1, and when it's done I'll release it as a demo.

Since I'm using a public computer, I can't really show you anything, but as soon as my compy is fixed (Which shouldn't be too long), I can put up one hell of an update.

Title: Update Episode II
Post by: Dragonium on March 18, 2006, 01:52:29 PM
Good news, bad news, and some other stuff.

First, my computer lives. I can continue with the game, but I still don't have the internet.

Bad news is that I had to reinstall my Windows XP, which meant that I've lost a month's worth of progress and resources. But nothing that can't be remade, so it's not too bad.

I'll post some stuff when I can get the internet on my own compy.
Title: Rebirth of a Legend.
Post by: Dragonium on August 15, 2006, 09:26:13 AM
Radiance lives, as does my internet connection.

Therefore, I can now post some of the stuff I've been up to.

Class Change System

http://i8.tinypic.com/24o2joy.png

Since sometimes you need different strengths and abilities to get by in battle, and I want play to be more open-ended, new classes can be unlocked for various things. Each member has three Unique Classes, plus one Final Class, and a number of Elemental Classes which are unlocked outside story events. These classes have different skills which can be put to good use during battle. At the moment, party members can change class outside battle, and I'm researching an in-battle system.

Seen in the shot above is Radian in Knight Class, and Endair in Sniper.

Knight
Weapons: Swords.
Base Abilities: First Aid, Boost, Motivate.
Description: Knights are more conservative fighters. While the Warrior class focuses on attack skills and fully offensive statistics, Knights tend to favour balanced abilities, and a range of skills which are useful for the Knight's survival. Their statistics are reasonable, and their forté is their ability to use various abilities to raise their HP and statistics in the heat of battle. A good all-round class.

Sniper
Weapons: Greatbows.
Base Abilities: Sharpshoot, Multishot, Cover.
Description: Snipers are a well-balanced alternative to the common Archer Class. The heavy Greatbow is a powerful weapon which can be wielded with great accuracy, but it does restrict movement slightly. However, Snipers have another advantage; Cover. This allows them to take to an advantageous position out of the line of enemy fire, and strike from this distance. As a result, Snipers can be most useful to seize the advantage in battle.

(Karen and Karma have classes which are in development)

Open-Ended Storyline

Searching for more classes? The Elemental Classes are available at any time during the storyline, and can be collecting by using your wits to find them. Certain classes can be found in the many locations around the map...

And if you feel like taking a break from the story, there's a lot more to do now...

Weapon Customization

It's not exactly an original idea, but using various items which can be found all over the world, the various parts of an item can be customized to increase their effect. Better sharpness? Try using natural materials. Want better grip to make attacks more consistent? How about using hide for the grip? Elemental effects? Sure. Make a completely unique weapon!

There's a lot more besides. I'll add some more when I can.

Be happy. Drag.

Might want to get ResHack (http://gamingw.net/utilities), for better icons. There's a tutorial on how to use it in the Complete Resources (http://www.charas-project.net/resources.php?lang=en); if you look up,"template." Having a six-pointed star for items doesn't really make sense.

Linkforce: Thanks dood. I'm good for resources at the moment, but if there's anything, I'll ask. Ta for the support.

Meiscool: I use the DBS because I personally can't see anything wrong with it. But I do prefer to customise it with all my little systems.

EXO: Thanks, I'll get to work on some new symbols. What could I have as an icon for Items?

JP: The monster is one from RPG Maker Advance. I use these monsters since they match the style of graphics I'm using.

Sandwich: Yeah, we're back on track!

Dren: Thanks, but I don't like fava beans.

Dinkler: It's with an "a", man. :D

Oh, and Arlan's graphics are done. Before I get beset by fanboys, he is not in any way based upon Sephiroth. The likeness is coincidental, and in fact I only noticed there was one at all when I was uploading the images. So there.

JP: Yeah, that's cool. :D

Now, I thought I'd post some shots and ideas of my little "CSS" (Custom Shop System). It's a very simple idea which anyone can use, but I just figured it'd be more fun this way. Basically, the Weapon Upgrade System (Not the Customization System I described earlier, that's different) was arguing with the Elemental Fusion System. Say you took a Great Axe and imbued it with a Fire element. When you went to upgrade it to the next stage of "Fire Axe", you couldn't. The two possibilities (Level 2 Fire and Level 2 Non-Elemental) clashed with each other and made it impossible to do anything. In the end I had to take out both of them.

But Customization still lives, through a hefty number of switches and variables, and the news is that for the first time you can buy weapons. Like, properly.

http://i8.tinypic.com/24x2d6c.png

By this reasoning you can buy things using the "traditional" method. The coding is very simple. No lag, like when using the DSS (Default Shop System) with a large number of items.

Specialist Armour

Most armour is usable by all classes, but there's also Specialist Armour (Like the Fur Waistcoat seen above). Specialist armour is only usable by certain Classes. However, it offers better protection than regular amour, and can often enhance the user's skills.

Since there isn't much call for Specialist Armour, only one item is usually in stock. It pretty much always sells out when you buy it. As such, if you have two or more characters of the same Class, you'll have to decide who needs it most.

Equipment Sets

While mixing-and-matching your armour is the usual trend, wearing a full set of armour, made from the same material, can actually be very beneficial. When you do this, a character can actually earn new skills and bonuses depending on the material which the equipment is made from.

Sometimes a full set of armour is not available in the shop. If you wear as much armour as you can buy in-store, you'll get a small benefit, but if you decide to go a little out of your way to find the missing equipment, the benefits can be so much greater.

Free Advice: Tin is quite resistant to damage, considering that it is lighter than other metals. If a character wears armour made completely of Tin, he/she can learn Feather Guard, a status enhancing skill which raises both Speed and Defence by a small amount.

Anyway, that's that. I'll add more screenshots and explanations to request if anyone wants anything cleared up.

You'd better go to Lune's site.

http://members.lycos.co.uk/lune/

You'll run out of icons if you only use FFTactics. I suggest using FFTactics Advance and Ogre Battle the most.

Very nice, oh and your font looks messed up. You should either find the two rare "msmincho" "ms*whatever" fonts, or you should get a new RPG_RT file.

This looks very nice.

Thanks! I'm using a wide variety of equipment icons; they're mostly FFT and FFTA, but the fact is someone sent me a load of charsets of armour and weapons so I have everything I need.

About the font: I had to reinstall XP when I fixed the computer, and I'm having difficulty in finding the font fix or whatever. Do you have any idea where I can get a new RPG_RT? It's not like you can just download one.

And thanks for the support. :D
Title: You DO download one.

You steal someone elses, then remake it by putting in your own font, your own startup pictures, and your own icons.

I stole Meis's then switched everything he had with my custom stuff. This was the only way I could get my font fixed.

My game is Metal Tears. On Page 3, download and play my battle demo, then take the RPG_RT and paste it into your game. Make sure to copy your game before you do this so that nothing gets lost. Also, mind you, that I have some different icons. This means that if you do go through with taking my RPG_RT, the icons I have will also replace the RTP icons.

These are the icons I have: http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c105/Meiscool2/Icons.png

Hey!  I haven't been on in a while, but now I'm back, and it looks like you're (still) doing great.  Anyways, if you need help, let me know.  I specialize in concept art (or just art).  Here's a sample:   Warrior (http://www.valituruscross.com/images/drawings/warrior.png).  Good job, Dragonium.
