Title: Bluhman Things.
Post by: Bluhman on December 01, 2005, 08:24:16 PM
Well; let's face it, I think I can do several types of resource at OK levels of quality; I did monsters at one point, I made a pretty sweet set of battlecharas, and I edited quite a few charasets by making poses. Now, I've discovered I'm also fine at midimaking. So, I decided it's time to make this thread full of stuff I make when I'm not busy on other stuff.

Here's a weird theme with drums n' trumpets and whatnot. It's not finished yet though.

It sounds strangly familar.... Well, it's ok, but in my opinion, you run the 'presentation' of the song to long. But, I've never made a midi, so I can safely say it's better then I could do.

Back again, with Metroid-Based sprites.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

My age-old spritesheet. Jus' placed here so we can all see what I came from.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

Ah, yes. My COH Character, Green Regis. As you can see, he has a TON of sprties, and is... Well, very bright in comparison to Bluhman up above.

Also, while I was with the COH community, I did a TON of singular sprites for folks.

BUMPIN BELLY.

Anyway, I decided I'd just throw in a few other things while I'm here. Bored. Mainly because I want to share this: Tornado Man's Theme from MM9, arranged in genesis-styled digital format. Why? Mainly because someone did this:

His! (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zjH2lC-sR4M)

And I wasn't entirely impressed. Mainly it was the bass line and percussion that was lacking so I decided to take my own shot:

Mine! (http://www.box.net/shared/zpm0izq0ji)

It was my first time using TFM (The music maker for this style of song), and I wasn't entirely willing to search for the best instruments to use. Just a few slightly modified stock selections, but overall, I'm quite pleased.

Edit: Alright, my judgment is that yours is better! The other guy's had less substance and was less authentic sounding. I can imagine this being something I'd hear from a real Genesis.

But why are you doing this? I mean, redoing megaman songs instead of making your own? :P

Got to the last boss, but couldn't beat it, but I was using an snes emulator and they have
very bad controls already. Easy to learn, but never as good as a controller.

But you are not allowed to dislike mega man, anyway. You should be killed to death.

Actauly the reason i dislike Megaman is because I get killed so much and the story tricky to understand.
A freind once said I should play Megaman Command Mission and then I'd like Megaman more.

Play the first games on the NES. They will teach you to like mega man.
And really, you couldnt understand the story? Its like... Evil guy is doing evil things with evil robots, beat the robots, and beat him! XD

The last boss on evo wasnt that hard imo. Were you a human already? I think the axe helped a lot.

Yeah, play some NES originals. 1 can be a little unfair at times, but 2 and 3 are very fair game.

If you're confused by the story, you must be seeing something silly like Megaman X or Megaman Zero or some crap like that with craziness going on.

No I was a horse. I couldn't find that orb. Where was it? I thinking abut getting a new SNES emulator. Darkfox sent me a link on Deviant Art, but I have yet to actually download one.

They have a lot of color flashes. Though I am learning how to get past that with movies. Maybe I should try.

Yeah. It's them I don't understand. I played Zero 2 and liked it, but it killed so much it wasn't funny. XD

Might as well post some pieces I ended up doing in a Music Theory class last year.

First thing I ever did. It's pretty dreadful. Basically, all I had to do was make a piece that had a melody and a counterpoint. Simple stuff. (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/Micah%20the%20Fujiwara.mid)
Next project was to create a harmonization for a familiar tune. I chose a tune that nobody was familiar with but me. Blargh. (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/MicahFlashy.mid)
Next was a project that involved creating a piece that used percussion instruments. Thus, this has a lot of vibraphone, piano, and drumsets. And is jazzy. (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/PercussionGrenade-Micah.mid)
Really gay (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/MicahString1.mid) string arrangements. (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/MicahString2.mid)
The brass composition. Obviously, one of the later ones I did. Has a very epic Soul Calibur feel to it, I'd say. (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/Micah%20-%20Swords%20of%20Brass.mid)
And the final project. A 5 minute long techno piece of awesomeness. (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/Mnemosyne%20-%20Micah%20Fujiwara.mid)

Not uploaded, for god knows why, are the Woodwind composition, and big arrangement project we did... For that, I actually did a 7 minute long arrangement of Dancing Mad. Yep.

I take offense.

Anyways...yeah, I can definitely see an improvement.
Um...not much else to say beyond how the hell could they not know that tune.
I don't play Mega Man and I know it.

Perhaps, but then you realize the demographics of the Music Theory class:

1. The Gender split is about even.
2. The earliest any of them could have possibly have been born was in the early 1990s (A year or more after MM2 came out)
3. None of them are really nerds. Thus, for the identical project, they created stuff like this (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/The%20Circle%20of%20Life%20-%20Kathryn%20Longenbach.mid) or that (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/Gilligan%20-%20Thomas%20Macias.mid). In fact, the only one that I guess could really classify as such did this one (http://www.bcsd.org/webpages/mstruzik/files/Benjamin%20Allen%20-%20Super%20Mario%20Bros.mid), and who the heck DOESN'T know that one.

Managed to find a copy of the Big Arrangement project I did. Hopefully, this link will work. (http://www.vgmusic.com/new-files/DMadARR.mid)

Taking a shot making sprites from scratch. This is still being worked on, and perhaps what I plan to use for the action/tactics remake of Alpha Force.
Pretty much perfected them all now. Hurrah. Favorites are Chisoku, Bluhman, Demon's Redemption, Artemis Sunset, and Inspector Steel. I still need to figure out Tri-Emerald's shape better, Diamondgard's shading still doesn't feel quite right, I don't know if Firestorm Viper should be short or tall, same goes for Celestalon, and Lady Anubis just needs... Something. And probably repositioning of that tail.

So tiny. Good, though. I'm usually not such a huge fan of no outline things, because they blend in with the bg a lot, which is great when you go for realism and stuff but on games it might get confusing if the BG has similar colours. Just watch out for that.
But yeah, I like 'em.

The issue of contrast is always a concern. Games like cave story seem to have gotten away with it quite well, though, probably because the backgrounds are high in pastel colors whereas all the characters are much brighter in nature. Of course, some of these characters certainly have pastels as well, so that might be a problem!

As for the size, that's sort of intentional I feel; They're generally meant to be seen at X2 size.

EDIT: X2!

I like the Megaman one that you said no one knew, and the one Grandy mentioned.

Thanks, mates!

As for the enlarged small sprites VS large ones, I actually did them because I wanted to practice working on sprites without the aid of a template. With templates, I feel like every character ends up with basically the same bodybuild and general feel and pose. With custom sprites for each character, I could attempt to capture some more unique shapes and sizes.

Perhaps when I get better and less lazy, I might attempt to do some upscale custom sprites. Hurrah.

DOLPHIN BOARD GO (http://i8.photobucket.com/albums/a11/Bluhman/ChisokuDolphinBoard.gif)
I think drinking 16 ounces of coffee enabled me to be hyper enough to do that. Wheeeeeee.

Also, enjoy my crappy Blender projects.
They are being done for a graphics class!
1st thing I ever did with Blender. Mainly done using the SPORE method of using simple shapes and stacking them on top of each other.
2nd project, I began to get into multiresing. I was trying to model a human shape but ended up making this sleek, winged thing, so I improvised and created spaceships instead.
The last one I made a greek temple thing with lamps. And got used to creating subobjects, copypasting, and precise positioning.

You know what sucks? My monitor can't get much lighter than this. Your last picture is pretty much black, with a neat glas window-thingy and some light circles in the cieling. It's a shame.

But that temple is really good.

Nice, you've improved really quickly. I like the animation, particularly on the robot. The spaceship feels a bit more like it's a toy on a string, if you know what I mean...?

Nope. I noticed Blender had a "Game Engine" or something, but we're nearing the end of the semester and this is pretty much as good as it's gonna get.

I can't tell how much is your raw talent and how much is the program doing the hard work. What I do know is that it looks pretty sweet, especially when the lights start flashing and that sorta disco vibe starts up.

Hey, look, a song from a Sonic game nobody has played. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQtZ6QM_Ydg)
Also, here's two small icon/sprites. The significance of them? They were drawn on the first day of classes inside computer labs; the red demon in a 3D graphics class, and the knight thing in a game making class. Yes, completely scratch at whim in MSPaint.

PNGs are awesome.
Strangely, I first used the format because I liked the name.
Nice sprites, as well. I like the style that they use. It reminds me vaguely of Another World.

It's an interesting style; you sacrifice the face that rtp and such like to keep clear for a better body shape.

I must admit that I usually prefer sprites that have slightly better defined lines (like a dark outline for instance) but these do look good.

I'd be lying if I was to say that the sprites weren't inspired by early 90's adventure games.
If I could actually muster up the energy to make this, it'd have a western, MS-DOS style appearance, except with console-esque control and gameplay.

Very cool. It seems like it would have very smooth animation, or at least in my imagining of what it would turn out to be. Very Karateka/Prince of Persia like.

What happens when you take this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEPTlhBmwRg&ob=av3n) and, with a bit of freetime, combine it with this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PPC4wXguSjs)?

You get a video removed from youtube and this (https://www.box.com/s/55bcf7ae158cab2c32bb)!

So FL studio is pretty neat for making chiptunes. Though, since there isn't really a track limit on that thing, it's quite possible to make stuff that's way too complicated to realistically be played by any classic gaming system (https://www.box.com/s/eaaef1ca7b700b4bed8c).

And the song in this post is not quite finished yet! AURGH, but I really like the results so far!
