an addon i just made.

Ive tweaked it for 3 different sizes, as My maps are playing out semi-3d, in 2-d traditional animation style art, so I need multiple perspectives of various things...Like this house.

Heres one of the sizes

Awsome work Gem, I like the colours that you use, kinda remind me of Tales of Symphonia.

I like the new stuff...wanna post a screen shot using that chipset?
Title:
Post by: Ben on November 29, 2006, 05:03:24 PM
I really do, but it will be a lil while. Hopefully by tonight or tomorrow night, Ill be able to do that. Ive got a couple more houses to make.

I wont be able to show the screen whith npcs and the hero until I get the perspective scripts ready.

And I have to make a pano, and edit some autotiles. But Luckily, Ive got a full day to myself today, aside from having to shave and run to the mall for a bit.

Stay tuned though.

Looks awesome. More than awesome in fact. A$$ome.

So I take it you've re-adopted your old username permanently now? XD What did I tell you, they all change back eventually.
Title:
Post by: Ben on November 29, 2006, 08:55:00 PM
yes. readopted.
This name is better. Less...long.

Uh, I picked up a super cheap dollar store webcam today.
So i was playing with it, and took pictures of a couple of sketches I had handy.

They are low res, but whatever. Youll get the point.

The bamboo/smoke one is cluttered. Im not happy with that one.

Im proud of the Ganesh-head piece.

The sepia tinted piece is a character from the Comic/Game project. The dude in the rice hat. I guess this picture is a bit of a spoiler, but meh. He was sposed to be all cloaky for the longest time. But, uh...hes not...here.....im.....rambling....off

The arranged version of the previous chipset.

Feel free to use.

After I get the correct autotiles, Ill post a screen of the chips in use.

I shall submit this to CR right after this.

If I had XP, I would most assurly screw around with that chip.
Title:
Post by: Ben on November 30, 2006, 04:51:31 AM
A screenshot of the new chips in use.

I am looking for alternatives to the RTP autotiles. They dont match at all.
Title:
Post by: InsaneJP on November 30, 2006, 05:48:21 AM
Now theres a contrast in styles... very unique man but does it look good with actual characters on it thats the questionn
Title:
Post by: Prpl_Mage on November 30, 2006, 06:12:28 AM
Just awsome, but there is a blue and white box behind the "leg" of the nearest hut. And some different variations of the plants would make it perfect.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on December 01, 2006, 05:10:44 AM
This might sound Ironic coming from me, but I think you've got to much going on in that last screen.
Title:
Post by: Ben on December 01, 2006, 05:16:10 AM
Lol.

Theres a newer version with some edited tiles in the screenshots thread. check that. Ive blended it a bit better, allthough I agree fully in regards to this map

So Ive been trainingm myself to use the Grphics tablet I got over the holidays.

Its alot of fun, now that I have the hang of it, and Ive been trying to try my hand at sprites and chipsets.

Most of what I came up with was awesome as hell, but I had got carried away. I dont have the patience to spend a week on one chipset...So I took the advice of Mr. HellsAngel. Ive been making chips and sprites to look like theyu were hand sketched, and Im doing this all in black and white. Its a fast process in this style, as its alot more forgiving and I can go freestyle with minimal restrictions this way.

Anyhow, I figured Id put a couple on my USB drive, and post them.

In a couple of weeks Ill have high-speed again, And Ill start my old Genia thread back up. The whole style of the game is getting changed over to the hand drawn look.

The sprites are oversized here...and the man-sprite hasnt been cleaned up like the girl yet. I still have to trim his edges and stuff.
Title:
Post by: Ben on January 02, 2007, 09:19:55 PM
and the girl

EDIT: I should probably mention that these are RTP edits. But theyre just NPCs. The Main Characters of the project are Origonal.
Title:
Post by: Ben on January 23, 2007, 07:35:59 AM
So, My previous attempts at XP chips have left me dissapointed. As a result, Ive battled a horrible addiction with crystal meth, and penis eating for sandwich money.

After the desperation wore off, I made this.

Its a bare bones mountainy chipset. Im going to use this as a base for the chipsets to be made in the future. Id post a screen, but i dont feel like it right now....

but the chips look sweet when used right.

The chars in this project are oversized so everything is congurent.

Ive scrapped the black and grey.

Title:
Post by: Ben on January 27, 2007, 06:58:05 AM
yep. new stuff
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on January 27, 2007, 02:07:16 PM
Wow dude, those are really fuckin' cool. The only problem is the sprite doesn't seem to match it when it comes to angle. Otherwise, excellent job. :)

EDIT: Oh, and maybe try putting in a face, that would top it off as perfect.
Title:
Post by: Ben on January 27, 2007, 05:59:48 PM
Img glad you like it. I spent the better part of yesterday getting a copy/paste page of generator like things ready....
But Im not sure If these sprites are useable.

I think I may need a slightly more Airial-view Sprite format.
Its not really congruent with the Chipsets....

I dunno....What do you dudes think?

EDIT:Yeah, Faces are coming....I was just kindof preoccupied getting the bulk stuff done.

Does anyone have any suggestions on How I can make the sprites look more congruent without redoing the bases from scratch?

Or perhaps a decent Sprite template I can use as a base, to edit, with a better top down feel that isnt RTP?

Size is not an issue. I can Resize and edit
Title:
Post by: Ben on January 27, 2007, 11:38:52 PM
Ive tried making a different sprite base, In hopes that it matches the chips, In camera-angularity...

Does this positioning look better, or is the difference too subtle?
Title:
Post by: ZeroKirbyX on January 27, 2007, 11:51:41 PM
I think maybe shrinking the torso would make it seem to be seen from more of an angle.

Anyone else?

A random Picture.

I was messin with the airbrush tool, and my Graphics Tablet.

If anyone wants to use this for a picture or monster....Go hard...
Im not even worried about credit.

Title:
Post by: Ben on February 18, 2007, 04:33:51 AM
This is a sprite template I made.

I guess compare to some of the stuff, this is kind of boring.
But its for XP.
Um...Its stubby...
It looks good in a TBS.
Im posting it here.
I have some add-ons for this too, but just look in C.R. for those.
Title:
Post by: Meiscool-2 on February 18, 2007, 06:00:25 AM
They do look fat, but I'm picturing them in all those TBS magic job class suits, and in my head, it looks pretty sweet. I think you'll be able to pull the sprites off pretty well.
Title:

and im ofcause gonna use alot mor of your sprites later in the game.

P.S. the man is made by bluhman... i think  .  :)

I figured Id post this.

I have to make a couple of pieces for this art show thing in July.
I made this last night...I still have alot of refining to do...
I was stumped as to what to do with the sky...So I put the clouds in...I was racking my brain trying to figure something to put there...but a dumb old cloud was all I could think of. If anyone has better ideas, let em rip...
Title:

I like it. As for the sky, maybe give like an orange/yellow sky with bombers flying by, like a nuke went off or something.

Dude, F'real. Having the graphic Tablet, and some firweworks and paintshop make spriting XP fun. And Cool too.

I cant seem to get very motivated the last few weeks though. Working my balls off.

I would like to get some more stuff in this here gallery and perhaps get some more tutorial action made.

This is some really kewl graphics your making. What kind of program do you use to make these customs? Photo Shop? Paintshop pro? MS Paint (who knows why, but many tend to use mspaint even with it's lack of tools and options... ) _sweat_
Title:
Post by: Ben on April 27, 2007, 04:44:19 AM
Thanks Arcanagirl.

I mostly use MS paint and Painshop Pro 7...But Ive as of today decided to train myself out of Paintshop pro and start using Fireworks.

Which Brings me to these next three posts.

They are an Image I plan on splicing into My title Screen. Im not sure which on Ill end up using. It all depends on what Else I make for the title.

Here they are. This is actually PsP7 and Fireworks stuff Amalgamated. I used both.

Nice one.
Title:
Post by: Ben on April 27, 2007, 10:17:30 PM
Fireworks pretty much rocks. Ive had it for a month and have just now begun learning how to use it right.

Im working on another fireworks image for the title too. Ill have a few in total to splice together for the final title screen. Im still learning all the functions. Right now Im mostly just using the smudge too and the Airbrush to get the shading.

Im glad you like.

Hmm, I thought Iīd suscribled myself to this topic long ago, but it seems like I didnīt.

I still love those monsters you create, they are just awsome! I love the way they look like something you could tatoo in your arm and yet use it as a huge badass monster in a game.
Title:
Post by: Ben on April 28, 2007, 10:25:59 PM
Yeah, I deleted a bunch of the thread in the fall.

If I could scrap that first attachment I would too. That stuff was ghetto iDraw stuff.

Actually, Im not happy with anything I did until I got the tablet honestly.

Im kindof stumped as to what else to work into the title...I had a group picture of somme characters from C-O-G but it looked super clichee. Im thinking of some gnarled Bare trees or something. Ill probably take a bit of a break from the title. Im
going to go do some tats tomorrow, so Im focusing on the actual pen and paper right now. Expect nothing from me for the next week. Its now officially work season for gemini

well, i was recently constructing a set of side scroller sprites. I decided it sucked, and i stole some megamanz and edited them into these.

They are big. They are simple. They should work for battle characters.

They are mine. They are a gift to you. Plz credit.
Also: make some clothes and stuff for them. If they suck, I might still use them for future edits.

So the result will be something like this then?

http://i22.tinypic.com/2ue5l3p.png

The colours were quite hard, those you used where really Gemini and I can't really use antoher colour unless you make it. That's just awesome work. But I did my best

Looks great as well really, kinda likes the style, much better than the other megaman sprites you find on the internet.
Title:
Post by: Ben on October 22, 2007, 05:28:18 PM
wow....that dude you made is sweet.

The way I did the colours are as such...

With the exception of detailed faces, every resource ive made for these consists of 2-3 colours.

You seem to have nailed it, prpl...

Ive picked a colour, (say it was the flesh tone in the naked poses) and floodfilled the area. I then used a colour selector and used a slightly darker shade for the shadows. Then, I picked a much darker value of the same colour for the outline.  I did this to try and make recolours and palette simplification easier.

i like your sprite. I will try and adapt that into various resources. You have inspired me.

EDIT: One day hopefull in my downtime here, Ill get inspired to make a set of Forward facing and away facing walk and dash sprites. Then i think more people would be inclined to want to use these in XP games or some junk. I think they would work well for battler animations

Title:

i havent decided what theyre for. i want to get a better understanding of abs, and ive ben trying to figure out a way to perhaps work genia into a side scroll platform while not losing the TBS thing.

Im just essperimenting. if nothing else theyll be a nice edition to the custom home-made XP RTP package i would like to inevetably make.

lol. Started testing them in game maker today....
they look nice....but some of them really suck when put into animation............

(yeahp, Im giving game maker a whirl....i remembertrying it before i even got in to rpg maker...years and years ago....and i remember making things....before i knew how to sprite. I hope the experience bodes well... I really would like to make a side scroller. Damn Stencyl people.)
Title:
Post by: Dominicy on May 13, 2008, 04:45:53 PM
Same, but hey, I have about three RPGmaker games to keep me occupied, ATM.
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 13, 2008, 11:54:01 PM
I've tried and failed at gamemaker tons of times. I start off with the best intentions but nothing seems to work how I think it will 0_o

And yeah, I was gonna mention that the sheet movement doesn't look very natural. Nice to see you still working on stuff though :D
Title:
Post by: Ben on May 15, 2008, 07:07:46 AM
i got a new template of animations made using the old ones, and some megaman  hands...

just a quick gif of the fixed dashing sprite, female.

(all male and female bases are made, and just need to be arranged and tidied up. Ill post them to CR when done, if any of you need some bchar templates

Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 21, 2008, 09:31:36 PM
It sorta works, although it doesn't look hugely fluid. I think his left leg needs to move back more.

Apart from that gap the frames link together really well.
Title:
Post by: Ben on May 21, 2008, 09:35:24 PM
the gif editor i used was sort of crappy. the colours look off and i can see pixel where I know there arent any. wierd. Ill try and fix the left leg. (actually, It may already be fixed...Ive added new feet to all of the poses
Title:
Post by: Ben on May 23, 2008, 05:46:22 PM
yarr... this be the sheet

cough

this is the master sheet of naked template sprite poses for the platformer series (one day to be used in the MMO project...but for now, Will grace a million mini-games as I learn the functions of game maker)

Ive tested them out....when arranged properly, and have the boundaries and origins set properly (takes a bit of work) they move quite nicely.

now I can finally arrange some resources

Woah. You've almost got enough for a generator already.
Title:
Post by: Ben on June 05, 2008, 09:34:10 AM
ive made some changes to the base template...i destroyed the original colours, and replaced them with something with a bit more depth and sweetness...i changed how im colouring them a bit, into a bit more of a standard pallette, so i can make chips and stuff to match without worring about having to alter the sprites to match. All of the things ive made for this template so far are now useless, but at least i know i wont have to go back.

I wont be making a female template, as the boobs can be added in during the item creation.

I am sick of making sprites for now. I may spit out a face or two for these guys, but i think Im going to focus more on making tiles for the project. Ill make some and post them in the next few days. there is a signboard and a mushroom i spit out on the sheet here, just to see how they look in comparison.

I AM BLATHERING.

This thread's starting to remind me how awesome 2D platformers are.

I forget, are you using gamemaker or have you moved on already? How're you coming along in that department?
Title:
Post by: Dominicy on June 07, 2008, 01:13:19 AM
He's still using Gamemaker, as far as I know.  I could be wrong.
Title:
Post by: Moosetroop11 on June 07, 2008, 01:57:52 AM
In that case, my question is: How're you geting along with gamemaker?
Title:
Post by: Ben on June 08, 2008, 03:56:04 AM

Gamemaker is tough to learn. Not becase of the complexity, but because i keep getting distracted from the tutorials, but i AM learning things....even if it is slowly.

What id really like, is to collaboarate with somebody who has some decent GM know how
Title:
Post by: Dominicy on June 08, 2008, 04:37:09 AM
If you find someone tell me, eh?  I tried using Game Maker, the tutorials weren't much help because with Game Maker, in a way, it has to be taught.
Title:
Post by: Ben on June 08, 2008, 04:55:21 AM
i find the tutorials pretty helpfull....

Id more like to find somebody who can handle things like menu systems and inventory, and multiplayer and stuff like that.

But in reality, I know Ill have to go it alone

Well, the dudes over at pixeljoint have talent. No offense to the rest of us, but those guys are good. Its why I never joined haha.

By the way Gem, I still say you're chipsets are my favorite. Ever.
Title:
Post by: Ben on June 09, 2008, 04:27:28 AM
the chipsets are the one thing ive gotten absolutely no criticism on. Which i think means they are good. Thanks dude.

As for the sprites, at least they are being constructive.
I lurked there for a long time, and was afraid to post my meager RPGMAKERWOOT resources, but i think Id like to get some better knowledge and up my skills before deciding on a version of my templates to use.
Title:

Title:
Post by: Ben on June 09, 2008, 08:37:41 AM
Yeah, i dont want to sound braggy or anything...but i dont have a whole lot of compititon here as far as other tileset makers...and the sprites im doing these days are really not comparable to 2k3 sprites...its like apples and oranges, you know? I only recently joined pixeljoint a few days ago, but i figure the only way Ill keep getting better at a satifactory rate is to get some advice from people that are leaps and bounds ahead of me....and god knows, some of those dudes really really are....
they make me look like a hack of a tattooist trying to make pixel animations with a clubbed hand.

the first comment i got was along the lines of 'i see you ripped your poses off of megaman x'
and i felt like a noob

I am pretty sure my sprites and the sprites over there  will be something like NES graphics and PS3 graphics. At least :P

MS Paint= Microsoft Paint.

Fireworks is a Graphics Application  Made by Adobe

I would never bite ones head off for asking a bout that.
Contrary to popular belief Im all about sharing, as far as Knowledge goes.

I only bite heads off and call people n00bs for doing ignorant and selfish things, or generally acting suspicious.

ZOMG....

the FINAL (i swear this time) draft of the Male and female Base templates.

I realize there is not much of a difference in body shape between the male and female sheets, aside from small boobies and a bit of shading tweaking....but most of the effeminate alterations to these sprites female set is to be done via the layers.

Hope you enjoy them. Feel free to use, And credit is nice, but really, its not mandatory.

You'll see some 2K3 sprites at the bottom. These are for my over world Map system.
They are generator template edits. The colors Match the others, except that the small sprites Have one extra mid-tone.

These are intended for use in My MMO project, once it comes around to being made...But for now, as a means to learn Game Maker functionality, And When stencyl is released, to be used for possible projects there...so for the time being Ill be making a single Player Game out of this stuff.

The Basic Town platform chip set is for the most part done, I still have some more things to add, but what I have will do for now. Ill post the chips once i have them all configured and photobucketed

haha gimi??? Lukas me and gemini have different styles and no spriters should try to compete just help eachother out lol

Gemini: yea im actually gunna post a video of this ( outside of your thread) to show your template used as a bchara but i just might need to make certain poses unless you wouldnt mind making them so it stays the same exact style? it would be defend death and maybe a victory

btw glad ya like the style :-D
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on June 23, 2008, 08:03:05 PM
honestly, the defend pose has given me grief. And so has the death pose.
If you want to give those a whirl Id be indebted. And so would any future users of this template.

If you have msn and wish to add me I can gladly answer any questions regarding pallette or technique
(knives_are_quiet@yahoo.com).

Seeing what you can come up with for this template gives me ideas for my own purposes.

Edit: For the love of god, I have never been able to make a good crouching pose for these either.

Use any of my material you want, change it however you want, keep it, its yours...
I made it for everybody, and I dont request credit either. God knows you side view battlers
helped me immensely and im just glad i can return the favor.

Ive been in a spriting rut lately... Ive been meaning to make up a larger heavierset human sprite template, and a smaller, slimmer more elven set as well. This whole thing is making me want to give another go at them.
But i wont lie, Ill probably just end up making more tiles and system items.lol.

haha yeaaa i guess i helped out around here a good amount with my side battle charcters and stuff like that
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on June 23, 2008, 08:46:58 PM
I have thought about making facesets, but im still kind of mulling over styles i guess.
I think Id end up holding off on them until I saw the outcome of the other body frames at work.

The way I have been spriting the faces onto the actual templates has a bit of a twist to the style about it, and I cant seem to decide on one thing yet. But yeah man, Ive definatly been giving it some thought

Gemini I htink I'm gonna do what JP did and use your sprites for my game, if you don't mind that is, Ofcourse I'll make my own poses that i need, but when I do them I'll let you see them, then you can modify them to your liking. I really like the look of your sprites.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on June 24, 2008, 12:07:16 AM
You can use any of my things. The only thing i ask is that if you make new poses for the base template, that you post the rest of them for us to use if need be. Ive made these for public domain. No credit.

I originally intended to ask for credit, but that defeats the purpose of creating something P.D. in the first place.

I should probably state that these are not intended for use in commercial projects...
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: InsaneJP on June 24, 2008, 01:52:36 AM
commercial projects then you BETTER get some credit lol ok gemini im gunna ask you a hard question lol by any means could you make a frontal position for these character too? cuz if your usin gamemaker that would be kinda cool as like givin the person whos playin a thumbs up when you beat a level

You would have to put them into an animation file for 2k3 or xp or w/e. And then you would have to put them into animations to use for b-chars in your game.

Here is the progress so far on the Bulky giant human template

The sprites are meant for games. Not Sigs. Id really prefer if you didnt.
But they ARE p.d.
So Whatever... Do what you want. Id just prefer if you did a sig with your own material.

here is the WIP of the tiny imp/child/small monster template. This would work for anything small and stout. Sort of a bean shaped body and a more fluid run to it. I cant seem to decide on a head.

Ive added/am adding an optional tail to this template.

I also sprited the body of a reptile thing carrying a stick, just to show a bit of half assed finished product.

Again I must stress this is a WIP.
But im thinking this one is going to turn out pretty radical, and should fit nicely with the other stuff Ive made

ALSO: Fish, I think what youre doing is good. Im glad youre  enjoying the template. I think if you add some darker lowlights in your dudes hair, and some face shading near the hairline, Youll have something even better. 8)

>.> I just start getting good with Bryce and you make all these fancy chipsets for your games. Seriously though, if you're ever getting lazy I'm willing to backgrounds for you ;P

A bit more on topic, the template looks good and all, the running just looks alittle unnatural.  It might just be when it's not animated, but the last one particularly looks weird.  Like it could double as a jump animation.  That's pretty much my only complaint/criticism.

I'm, ofcourse, talking about the adult human template, not the lizard/imp/child one :P
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on June 26, 2008, 08:05:27 PM
noted.

As of now, that particular cell Does in fact double as a jump animation.
However, now that youve said that Ill probably try and figure out a way to make it more fluid.

Heres is a mock up of the hairs paired up with ALL TWO of the items i have made for the adult template. A gree t-shirt and some work gloves.

Hey gemini.... that WIP..... i wish i had an idea for the head but i cant think of anything... maybe like a raptor or somthing lol maybe even a monkey but yeaaa you gunna give it feet too?
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on June 26, 2008, 08:10:24 PM
yeah. Im going to give it feet ands and a few heads.
Im thinking a raptor head, a floppy lilo-and-stich style head, a human shaped head and 2-3 kinds of feet.
If i make some interchangeable nody parts, it should work well for all sorts of things...from children to Lizard men or kobold style monsters.

So Im posting the fixed version of the running gif for the small template. For some reason when I upload gifs to the net, it adds some delay on the gif loop and makes it look like a choppy movement. When I edit the gif in GM, it looks smooth and nice though.

Its probably because Im an effin' n00b at gif making. I usually save the gif with GM, and the just upload it to an online gif editor to set transperancy and make it loop. I cant seem to do that with GM....And I have yet to find a no nonsense downloadable exe style gif editor.

Anyhow, yeah here it is. but it looks choppy on the interbutts/(http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n219/knivesarequiet/ZZZXXXYYYGIF.gif)

HUMAN MALE
HUMAN FEMALE
CHILD UNISEX
and
REPTILE UNISEX

They are all arranged for use with GM, but theyll work for battle animations too.

Ill still be doing a giant/hulky template, and Ill likely do a non human Offshoot of it as well.

All future additions to this template will be done in the same format as these ones, so that items and such can be copy pasted directly onto the existing templates to decorate them.

Hope you guys enjoy.
When CR is up and running again for submission, Ill be sure to post them.

As I said, theese are for your use. No credit is needed, but it's sure nice.
These sprites are not meant for commercial use, unless written permission is givien by myself.

Jesus. Youre right. Also, Ive fixed the lack of hands on the child and lizard.
Ill make sure to get those perfected before moving onto the bulky template...

And now suddenly a fat human template seems to be in order. However, I likely wouldnt do as thourough a version though. In my own project, an obese person would work well as an NPC or Enemy...but Ill keep thinking it over.

I may also put together an assembly sheet, and a colour guide, full of Body parts and complete with a chart and stuff....so that people can create their own (For an example of what im talking about google "generic reploid construction sprite " and i believe youll find a megaman sprite making series of images.)

the green is painfully bright man. You might want to try using a more greyed out/less saturated tone. The co,lours will seem a bit more natural that way. In the kick pose, try bringing the leg higher, and adding a glimpse of the left arm in front of the body, while adding a bit of a bend to the right arm, and the pose will seem much more natural. Good work otherwise though

Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on July 12, 2008, 08:07:53 PM
not so much switches, as variables.
And the triggers are programmed by you
theres quite a bit more work then with RPG maker. its more complicated to learn, but you can do XONESQUILLION more with it. Ranging from side view platformers and chat windows to 3-D graphics and multiplayer

thing is... you need to actually learn to use the program. Unlike RPG maker, where a n00b can just learn some basic functions and make a game.
Dont get me wrong, you can do plenty of stuff with RPGmaker... wait... no you cant. nvm

Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on July 12, 2008, 08:20:57 PM
I wasnt being mean. I was being cheeky.

You can do lots with RPGmaker.
As long as its a Top Down RPG
with either a turn based, active battle or if youre really good a TBS

if you ask me its pretty limited.
And what I said was true. A n00b with a good game Idea and some time on his hands only has to learn how to properly use switches Variable and Conditionals in order to make an enjoyable game.

Its limited. I wasnt trashing it, so much as just stating facts. 9/10 time RPGmaker produces a shitty and amateur looking product, because 9/10 times its some kid who wants to make it so u can play with sephiroth and naruto in ur party

I agree with Gemini 1000%.This is a big problem with RPG-maker is that so many n00bs
don't even try to make good games, just crappy cameos of their favorite animie heros.
And what you said about game maker being better than RPG maker i agree.I would probly take it
up again, but i the problem is finding it free.Plus tutorails and game maker freindly resource sites
with good fan made sprites.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on July 13, 2008, 06:51:21 PM
Im not going to say flat out that one maker is better or worse.

Im just saying, If you want to whip up a functioning RPG to show your friends then RPG maker is better for you

And if you want to build something where you have complete controll over things like sprites and gameplay, then GM is probably better.

But in reality, by the time I have all of my Design Documents made, and All of my Tiles, Sprites, Skins, Animations and Icons Made, Stencyl Will probably be released and Ill end up using that (If its anywhere near as easy to use as them mofos claim)

The closer i get to having a fully complete and uniform set of templates, the closer I am to making sets of weapons, clothes and stuff.

The reptile will be staying, and the progress on the Bulky Human will stay.

Im redoing the Adult HUman Male completely though. He will look more or less the same, but Ill be cleaning the whole thing up.

Im going to do All of these at one time, and I will be creating a seperate thread for this project.

Yeah dude, its straight up pixels. Ive been going hard on the flat out PA lately. I havent done anything with my Side view templates, Im waiting for stencyl to be released before I do much with those, but they are saved away in a dark corner for now, lol.

Im just mostly working on some Isomatric 64X64 tiles now, and made a sweet old school 16X16 tileset. Planning on releasing an isometric TBS sprite template sometime in the early new year as well.

Im working with 16 and 8 color pallettes, to try and get my eye trained up on tertiary contrasts, which is lots of fun as well. Ill probably post some of that sort of stuff up on my DA, and maybe drop off my top down tileset here, as somebody will find a use for them.

Im diggin your photoshop lines right now too. Some nice crisp work buddy

it should be noted that in the actual project, buildings and such that were passable/background would be displayed at a lower saturation, to add depth.
Only the character sprites would be displayed at full saturation. Hopefully my AGM comes before my days off and I can actually show the effect in full.
And a project thread.

I must admit this is true. I'd rather be impaled than stepped on by a gigantic elephant-like foot. I mean at least with impaling, your phisical body is only damaged a little, but by being stomped on you're body is ground to dust quite quicky if the thing wieghs almost as much as an elephant. :(

Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Valiere on April 08, 2009, 07:25:59 PM
There's a lot of plagiarism out there, but you gotta do your homework before you go accusing. Like, one time, this girl showed me this spectacularly-drawn and colored anime picture and said she made it when she was 12. I knew this was BS, because I had seen her pencil drawings before, and at age 20 she was nowhere near that kind of professional level at skill...she was a notch above amateur at best. So I did some sleuthing and found the exact same picture on another site, which was actually an image from one of those Japanese visual novels, made in 2007. I called her out on it, and after producing some lame excuses, she gave up.

She actually lied about a ton of stuff...like, she said she could play 10 instruments, was a model (lol), put her cousin through college, and other crap. But yeah, I'm rambling.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery

I have partaken in many facbook-graffiti-application contests, and that crap is like a giant war of people that cant draw that desperatly scour google images trying to find photo references that people used and trying to get other people disqualified.

I think kids like to trace to get a feel for professional linework. nothing wrong with that. Its just that some people are too insecure about it to state the reference or base they used.

I wont lie, Ive used photo refs to get anatomy right on a couple of occasions. I havent traced since a kid though.

With the exception of tattooing. That whole job is tracing. Except that i am tracing lines of artwork ive already designed myself.

But Yeah, Uberpwn, you just lost any respect I had for you. You called me out on copying a picture that i drew from scratch when i was bored.
You called me out on making a GOOD COPY of a ROUGH DRAFT in my gallery. Not to mention the origional was already posted IN THIS VERY THREAD. go **** yourself man.

Everyone uses photo references to get anatomy right.

i should also mention that one a couple of occasions I have also attempted to dircetly (without tracing) copy a photo. But thats more as a test of skill. I sometimes like to try and emulate photo quality in a digital painting. Without tracing of course. Its a good excercise.

I was trying to quickly sketch with my tablet what i had sketched in my sketchbook in regards to steampunk themed megaman.
These are rather quick, but i figured id post them. The origionals were all nice and done in pencils and ink.

Here is a face for Megaman, Wily, Light, Rush, and a Metaru.

That particular character is my own creation, and a pivotal supporting character In my "Chronicles of Genia" Mythos. There are5-6 more characters. I was just having some fun, making her slightly more punky I guess. Ive been meaning to rework those dudes for a long time now. Their design has been fading from my mind, which is simply not acceptable

I was wondering what you would do about his arm cannon. I thought it would be an actual cannon, shooting cannon balls. xD that would be neat though.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on August 07, 2009, 10:12:16 PM
But alas, where would he keep the cannon balls?

I figured an Alkaline metal (reactive with water) paired up with a steam tank on his arm, and a bit of a potato-gun like scenario would be a good answer to the plasma cannon in a steampunk sort of scenario. Little bits of francium would be easier to store for  this megaman then an nearly infinessimal supply of cannonballs.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Vlad Shadeu on August 07, 2009, 11:17:13 PM
He could have a cylindrical wood frame on his back that feeds up into his arm.
HE could only hold like three, but it would look cool and work.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on August 08, 2009, 12:26:18 AM
three shots for megaman wont cut it. He has 2 steam tanks, and pressure resivoirs on his arms. The tubes leading from his chest and elbows are to provide circulation for the water system needed to build pressure. With this here water and alkaline system paired with the pressure tanks on the forearm allows for the "charge shot" seen in mm4+. Ive given this some thought. Cannonballs could work for enemy weapons, but i have other things in mind for the plasma cannon. Ill keep it in mind when i design a boss, if it comes to that.

Not to mention, the light flare that would come from the reaction with alkaline metal and water, would be used as a means to give a burst of light to darkened levels.
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery

Once again (i dont think you said this) are you going to make a steampunk megaman game?
Title: Re: Gemini's Gallery
Post by: Ben on August 08, 2009, 02:01:52 AM
No. Not unless I suddenly come across a professional design team, that has the okay from capcom to do it.

However, The engine i would use in my steam-mm is going to be used with my genia characters at some point. It would basically be a High res game, like megaman meets zelda2 meets street fighter, platformer/top down, and  stuff. So  yeah, no...but ill probably take a crack at making it, just with original content....megaman concept sketches are about as far as Im willing to go with fanart.

And even that is a maybe. I have 2 jobs, and a fairly active life outside of work. Frankly, it baffles me that I spend as much time as I do on the internet.
Winter is coming though, so if i can stay focused enough, maybe ill find some time to do it then.

All of these ideas I have would have a better chance of seeing the light of day if I could find a solid team of people to collab with, that knew what they were doing.

I also like working with ambients... unfortunately, they're almost all ripped from game files.  For example, I found an archive of ALL the Resident Evil 4 sounds.  Helluva lot better than the handful of ambient sfx in RPG maker.

This (http://www.mediafire.com/?a4f3rfju79xijl3) is something I knocked up in about an hour while looking at your screenshots. I could probably make it loop somewhere. This (http://www.mediafire.com/?a4f3rfju79xijl3) is a snippet from a longer piece.

I'm no Eric Brosius, but give me a setting and I can most likely do you some ambience to fit.

I like what youve done here draggy....only problem is filesize.

The game is played out through a series of small maps. Most of them wont have much for sound...The sounds I DO need are short, ambient loops. Being a flash game, load time is an issue, and as such file sizes for sounds that in the neigborhood of 1MB are WAAAY too big. The player wont be on one screen for more then say 30 seconds...on average about 15.  The music would be used to give an intensifying atmosphere from room to room. So rather then One track, that gets progressivly creepier....I would need a few small tracks, that loop, each getting progressively creepier. That way, I can build up effect from room to room, and keep the load times down.

I really like what youve done. I tried the track out on my title screen and it was awesome. Im so close to having a releaseable demo (all the menus are coded...items, inventory etc....working on finishing the demo scene, and have some dialogue bugs to fix....Im hoping to have a mechanics demo published this evening)

Can do, Gem. Once I figure out the looping it's smooth sailing. Consider me on it.

Drop me a message on here or whatever if there's any location-specific sounds or other things you'd like.

EDIT: Guess what, looping in FL Studio is harder than it first seems. It cuts things off wrong. I'm trying to find a workaround but I can't say how long it'll take.

I personally think that in this day and age, the majority of PC users own at least half a terabyte
of storage space on their computers. When you install a game such as Crysis, it uses up about
10GB just to sit there and exist. People then complain about "large" RPG Maker games being
about 80MB. Hell! I'm willing to download a 1GB RPG Maker game if it's good enough!

Think about it like this: Would you buy a 30MB iPod and just listen to MIDI files on it? (If it
supported them) I sure as hell wouldn't! If a game's made to a high enough standard, it deserves
to have a stellar soundtrack to complement it. If it's an awful RTP game but contains the entire
FFX soundtrack and comes to 300MB, then it's a different story. See what I'm getting at, though?

Use as much music as you want. I'll still download it!

EDIT: Oh no, Dragonium's music file takes up 1.9MB! That's 0.00000095% of my hard-drive capactity! Jesus!

zuhane, Benimi is programming in flash, which has to preload a bunch of stuff. So the file size does matter there. But I agree. I'm going majorly mp3 on Charas Heroes mostly for this reason. I'll probably seperate the music and the main game into two seperate downloads so that people don't have to redownload the mp3s every time when they're not changing.

Ive finally started to get work done on essentially re-inventing the rpgmaker 2003 sprite. Its like the original sprite base...only with eight directions...and two motion animations (walk and sprint)

I still have to make the sequence for an arm swipe/attack and death/laydown.

WHY AM I DOING THIS YOU ASK?!?
Because Im attempting to make a new sprite generator for you dudes, and anyotherdudes that like to make games

naked base, and the first round of clothes/bodyparts in a complete sprite form are shown (the harry potter looking one) and a few heads.
They may be hard to see, and I have yet to test these out in RPGmaker...or anything else.

This one I am doing to specifically emulate the RPG2k3 RTP look of things. I hope Im pulling it off okay.

After this is finished and I have some parts made, Ill be making an XP and VX rtp base in this manner...then some other custom origininactacular sprite bases of my own design

Yes, I like them a lot as well. Especially the running pose. It's tempting to use 'em... but I dare not put more work on myself.

Im secretly hoping one of you tests these on rpg maker. Im also secretly hoping one of you manages to make an 8 directional system with running.

Shouldn't be SO hard. I guess that Prplmage could give it a try. :P

The Kyoob engine (Zero Engine) is built for loading in RPGMaker resorces, I could probably mod it to load your template in and make a general moving script that includes running.

Them is some damn nice sprites. I am, as ever, envious of your artistic talents and RUGGED CHARISMA.

Post by: fruckert on December 04, 2010, 03:59:17 AM
I'm not sure if you noticed, but you weirded out the order of the running sprites in relationship with the walking ones. The last two should be swapped.

ED: I've gotten the "resource loading" script done, I just need to implement the animation.

Aaaand animation is fairly done.
Just need to get the running done (should take like half a second)

Completely done now, if rough and unpolished.
You'll see it Tuesday, when I go home.

I dont want to toot my own horn here....but those are doing exactly what i wanted them to...and they blend with the RTP.

Thanks so much Fruck.

This is officially now the base model for my "cover" of the charas generators.

You're very welcome...I should note though that those are Val's Steampunk tilesets. I believe I asked her for them for a failed project a while back, as well as "playtesting" them for her.
I'm checking them out with stock 2K3 RTP things right now, though.

ed: Oh god, the RTP makes my head hurt.
I'll do that some other time.
Until then, I'm calling it good.

edos: When do you think the arm-swipe/attack and death/laydown animations are going to be done?
I have the script that loads in the resource all prepped to load in those as well.

I have the arm swipe done for 6 out of 8 directions, and Im thinking I may just puss out and make a single image for death (one frame, one facing) because Im a lazy jew like that.

Ive always wanted to have a robot suit.

Ive always liked megaman....but old megaman designs just dont translate well into badass robot armour.
So then I was going to make a fallout ranger suit out of paper....then fiberglass and bondo it...But then I was like...**** fallout.
And then I mixed the ideas. A megaman themed fiberglass suit, with fallout-ranger-goggle eyes. and gadgets in the helmet, like a respirator, bluetooth headset, rubber airtight seal.

THis is the helmets pep file. Its now made out of paper. It quite large, but it has to be to fit all the gadgets and to make it safe and padded.
I will hopefully be getting some fiberglass resin and plastic/rubber on this bitch on the weekend. Then... dremoling sanding and panting.

Ive started taking mesurments and doing sketches for the rest of the suit. When its done, the blaster will shoot glowing balls of burning, and nerf balls. Im then going to use the suit to either fight crime with, or use as a display model for art shows and crap.

Hopefully I can get a camera and get some pics of the WIP up

Oh yeah.... a side note...

would you believe Ive never had access to a scanner since owning a computer? Now, I have like a jillion of them, computers that is.
Just yesterday my friend randomly gave me a printer/copier/fax/scanner pimp model HP unit.

I can finally show you guys what I do. It dawns on me that You dudes (or the internet in general) has never seen much of my actual pen/cil skills. The tablet is all well and fine...but its just not the same.

I wish my stuff was not all like 4by5 feet. Im going to see if I have any cool sketches floating around, and if not, Im going to make some. Might have some tattoo stuff somewhere.

But once its finished, you can go around late at night beating um criminals and sodomizing them, so its gonna be worth it.

Nah...no sodomy. I have plans to make a rather secure codpiece.

Im currently half way done the upper-torso shell. Its printed off, and Im assembling the pieces. It may be small...hoping I dont have to re-size it all

Im hoping to have all pieces of the suit done by January. My Grant deadline is for february 1, and I have some research and publishing stuff to do in Jan.

I have space in the torso for tiny headlights, 'brake' lights and a compartment in the back to keep your weed in.

A couple of days ago, I was contacted by a colleague who needed a full on art exhibit made in 39 hours.
I was not prepared. But then I was like "fuk this, Im gonna bring tha ruckus". And I made it happen.

Since putting it up last night, Ive had some interest. I may or may not have a buyer for over a thousand dollars. Ive done tattoos worth that much...but never an illustration or painting.

I hope this equates to making a name for myself as an artist in the city I live in. Im sure tired of designing logos and chalk boards and tattoos and stuff.

More to come. The actual exhibit wont start until april.

I Can't get my old login right for the life of me. But I wanted to stop in and show you gus my youtube debut

FLAVOR X YEGStreetArt: ARTIST SERIES Ep 1 - EIGHTBIT (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMHSYjCn-pE#ws)

This is the first video in a series showcasing local graffiti artists in the city I live in. I am the first artist to get showcased in it, and will likely have an annual spot...next season Ill be battling other artists on camera. It was so cold the day we shot it, I wanted to die a bit. The snow came today, so It was likely the last piece Ill be doing until the spring, outdoors, that is not for money.

If any of you can see fit to try and help spread the video around, and get some likes and views, It would sure help out the guys who put it together.

Miss you dudes.

the Albert Einstein that I covered over in the Video Was my own work as well. The Blue watery background and abstract stuff was done by a group of inner city kids that were my students at a graffiti class I taught this summer. Its been an interesting ride lately. Ive since taken up teaching freestyle mural art classes regularly, and get to give the odd university and college lecture on the subject. It makes me nervous and smug though....I never finished high school. But things are fun.

Im planning on doing some Mobile Developing this winter, so Ill probably be in here and there to share some of that.
