Title: Dren's Music/Mids
Post by: drenrin2120 on February 18, 2006, 01:43:43 AM
UPDATED March, 2011
Welcome to my gallery of music. I make all these midis myself using Anvil Studios and occassionally opening them up in other programs to tweak them and add effects, such as looping, crescendo, decrescendo, modulation, blah blah... You're more than welcome to not only download these but use them in your games. All Midis posted here are free game, as long as you give me credit of course. ;)

There are several categories here, just to make browsing easier. I won't always have every song on the front page, though. For now, while it's still generally uncluttered, I will. But as soon as things get a little crazy, I'll start removing them or whatever.

Note: Please let me know if these don't seem to loop right.
Just FYI: Page 17 and onward is the more recent updates. Everything before that is kind of old and probably not very good quality.

Edit::: STILL GOOD THOUGH! lol

Here's one I never released but was meant for my game. It's called Bemnonth Commences, I kept Bemnonth highly secret, I didn't want anyoen knowing about him. The only person I told him about was InsaneJP, and for the future's sake. I'm still not revealing. But this is a theme song based off of him and made for an event.

EDIT: Thanks dude, but this isn't Bemnonth's Theme. lol I'll post his theme some time in the future.

Great as ever dren! Couldn't listen to the third one though... :|

I got bored one day, and decided to experiment with drums. Some of it is cool, some of it is boring. Lemme put it this way, 2 minutes of drumming, your choice.

Post by: drenrin2120 on February 21, 2006, 04:42:07 PM
idk y the third one didn't work for you, CK, kind of a bummer. :|

Here's one I call it! Rock Song 3. Because I've given naming them. But strangely enough, it started out on a real guitar, so it's pretty much realistically playable. Except for maybe the solo, but w/e, enjoy!
Title: Need Opinions
Post by: drenrin2120 on February 23, 2006, 09:11:03 PM
Okay, I need your guys'  opinions on this one. Do you think this would work well for a final dungeon sort of theme?
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on February 24, 2006, 07:51:59 PM
Sounds good to me. I think it would work. Nice job. :)

Thanks CK, too bad I've kinda turned it into a battle MIDI. :p

Whoo, it's been a while hasn't it? Well, I got a little something for you. Tell me what you think. mostly, I want to see what kind of situation you think this would fit under in an RPG?

The situation I picture whenI hear is this:

The Cool and often merciless hero in your group galliantly risks his life for his comrades, and this song comes in right before his inevitable end .

Thanks, that's pretty helpful.

Here's one more, the finished "When Fate Collides". Just recently tidied it up a bit.

I think it would fit a final dungeon pretty well. But I could be wrong.

Yep definately a dungeon. Although with some adjustsments it can become a nice Boss theme or what not.

Here's something I whipped up real quick. What do you guys think? I'm mostly curious about the beat. I'm into some punk rock, and I've been wanting to try this out.
Title: Techno MIDI-Rave
Post by: drenrin2120 on April 22, 2006, 01:12:29 AM
Here's a techno MIDI I made. Techno songs are fun because anything goes. So here it is, Rave. Tell me what you think, I spent practically all day today on it. I love it.

How do you make such great midis?

Old Post: Thanks weerd! I don't really know, I just love music and when I sit down to write I get sucked in for hours.

New Post: For those of you who like guitar solos, my latest creation should be spiffy to you. It has a punk-esk beat to it, but I like it greatly. I'm actually quite fond of this one. What do you guys think?

These are awsome midis Dren, but you always made awsome midis that I have heard.

my fave is Rave :P

Post by: drenrin2120 on May 11, 2006, 10:46:15 PM
Thanks Jenn, that's one of my faves too.

Here's a MIDI Version of one of my favorite songs. It's Last Train Home by Lostprophets. I didn't follow exactly how Lostprophets did it, I experimented a bit. Tell me what you think, I definitely am not too uber proud of this. I just like it for what it is. A cover.

Post by: drenrin2120 on May 20, 2006, 03:54:34 PM
Here's one I just whipped up. It's for a part in a game where the character comes back to a place where old memories still rule him/her. What do you think?
Title: Orchestrated
Post by: drenrin2120 on May 21, 2006, 01:50:56 PM
Does anyone remember the MIDIs from my old game GoHL? A lot of ppl said they were too digital for the game's setting. Well, I came to realize they were right. I was experimenting with someo ld songs and I found one named Blood Pressure. Which I love, but is a little too digital for some people's tastes. You can listen to it here...

 Blood Pressure (http://media.putfile.com/Blood-Pressure)

----------------------------

Now, what I did with that is I made an orchestrated version of it. That of which you can listen to here...

 Blood Pressure 2 (http://media.putfile.com/Blood-Pressure-2)

I like the orchestrated version a lot, but I'd like to know what you think. :)
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on June 02, 2006, 12:53:53 AM
Hey guys, I haven't posted a MIDI in a while. So here is my latest. It's a rock song, hope you all enjoy. I know I do. Tell me what you think.

Rock Song 11 (http://media.putfile.com/Rock-Song-11)

I like to think of it as a cross between Sublime and Atreyu with a little bit of me.  :D
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on June 02, 2006, 02:01:24 AM
I'm glad they're not attachments right now. Attachments don't seem to be working for me. :( I like your rewritten Blood Pressure. Sounds good orchestrated. :) You're also good at naming things like that, where as I call mine things like "Boss Fight." :p

Keep up the good work.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on June 02, 2006, 12:45:35 PM
Yeah, attachments take too many posts. And I can upload a bijillion MIDIs to Putfile thanks to the condensed size of them. Thanks, names just come to me, but they're really not that important. Though I've stopped naming my Rock songs, as you can see. lol Just too many.
Title: Haven't Posted In a While
Post by: drenrin2120 on July 01, 2006, 04:32:17 AM
It's been a while since I posted any MIDIs here. That's because I either posted them in my game's thread or i've been making MIDIs for my game. Well, I've got one that I was experimenting with and it actually turned out really cool. Tell me what you think.

 Orchestra Rock (http://media.putfile.com/Orchestra-Rock)

EDIT: I'm thinking this might be a good final boss theme(depending on the game) or a good special boss fight. The only prob is I'd have to put in a special loop, and I'm currently lacking the tools to do so.

I was hoping someone would make a LP MIDI for one of their songs off Start Something.  I like all the songs off the album, but Last Train Home is one of the best.  You should definitely look into their new album Liberation Transmission.  I think Rooftops and Everyday Combat would make some good tracks, esp. EC for a battle (duh, the title).  Anyways, there's a thought for ya.

Let me know when you get some new stuff done, por favre.

Also, you should definitely put these in the resource section on Charas.  That would be nice.

I've got LT, and it's not bad. But Fake Sound and SS are still better in my opinion. I may make a MIDI version of some other songs sometime. I did made a MIDI version of Kobrakai a while.
Title:
Post by: Emerates on July 02, 2006, 05:53:20 PM
TFSOP and LT are kinda up-n-down in my opinion, SS has definitely been their peak album (so far, at least).  You could probably find some B-sides by them on their myspace profile, i found a cover of one of Justin Timberlake's songs on there, and a really good song called 'Our Broken Hearts'.  I like what you did with LTH, though.  Hopefully, you put in the event marker to make it loop, because I'm thinking of putting it in my debut game somewhere.

Keep up the good work, dude.   :bend:

Yeah, for Fake Sound, the songs were either really good or bad. SS is definitely their best, agree'd. And thankyou, I've been trying to think of the name for that song forever. Our Broken Hearts is it, tho. lol

As for the MIDIs, sadly I did not put in an event marker for the loop. The program I use doesn't allow it. Unless maybe you know where I can download one?

Post by: drenrin2120 on July 10, 2006, 02:09:23 AM
Yes, I found a trial version of a MIDI Maker that lets me put in specific loops and other cool effects! I went back and edited a MIDI I made called Rave and put in a special loop so you can use it as a Boss theme! It also has some very small effects added. Tell me what you think! Use it if you want, but give credit, this is one of my favorite works.

BTW: I changed the name too.

I just listened to ACL, and I must say it was pretty effiin' sweet.

I was wondering if you could tell me where I could get the program you use so I can start making some of my own MIDIs.  I've got a bunch of ideas flying through my head, but I don't have the resources to put them to good effect.  Thanks.

I use Anvil Studio (http://www.anvilstudio.com) to place the notes and change the pan and volume of each track. Then I use Voyetra (http://www.voyetra.com/site/) to put in special effects such as pitch bends and specific looping points.

It's cool. What purpose would it be in a game? At first I thought "town" then like... 5 seconds later I thought "battle" then 20 more seconds.. I thought "dungeon..?" then a while later.. I was like "WTF?".

lol, I guess whatever you wanted. Like CK said, it doesn't have to have a specific purpose. I've seen Village Themes that works just as well for dungeons or sad themes.

EDIT: Here it is with a loop. If anyone does decide they want to use it.

Okay, so here's a cover of Burn, Burn by lostprophets. It's pretty close to the original. I would've added a loop by my trial edition of Voyetra jsut ended.  :| So here it is without the loop. I'm thinking about coming up with a complete MIDI version of their album, but it's a maybe.

A techno/boss song I was working on but prolly won't finish because it's not going the way I wanted it too. It wasn't suppose to be as serious.

I like how you change it up after about 30 seconds.

P.S.: Nice Avatar.
Title:

Sounds pretty good. It helps me with techno to make a crazy synth bass with 16th note broken octaves.

Btw, I was wondering, what program do you use to make the notes change over time? I hear you do it a lot, and it's one thing I've never been able to do.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on August 17, 2006, 11:34:54 PM
I use voyetra, posted a link a couple pages back. I had to pay to use it, but they do have a trial version. I wish the trial version of Anvil had this capability then I wouldn't need voyetra. Here's a  link (http://www.voyetra.com/site/products/dl_products/serieshome.asp)  to the trial version. Scroll down one and that's the one I use. I bought mine at best buy and it's really not too expensive. Here's a little tip, to add a loop put in an event where you want the loop, make sure it's type is controller, and set it's type (under parameters) as 111, and you're done. You're prolly confused, but you'll understand what I mean if you download it. I wish the help file would tell you what each midi controller does. I would love to experiment with those but os many of them seem to do nothing.
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 18, 2006, 12:53:51 AM
Ok, thanks. :)

Oh, and btw I already do looping in Anvil (hence some of the songs in my MIDI thread mentioning it and some of my complete resources uploads commenting on how they are already looped). Pretty much as soon as I got Anvil I asked my friend how to do it, and he told me he didn't think Anvil could do it. So I used trusty old google and stumbled upon a GW tut on how to do it with unregistered. Osmose just recently made a thread about it called "Looping MIDIs like a pro." Perhaps I should've done that a while ago, but I didn't want to be a tut thief. :p Anyways, the only difference in Osmose's is that he said set the control value to 0, whereas I've always set it to 111 and it's worked fine.

So, no I'm not confused. :p Although I have never experimented with the other controller events.

Here's a quick thing I messed around with. It's an old song i'm no longer using turned into a piano only remix. Real simple to do, sounds okay.
Title:
Post by: coasterkrazy on August 24, 2006, 08:27:21 PM
Wow, cool! Only thing I found a bit weird was where the lower instrument (can't tell what it was) came in after the piano. It was the second instrument after the piano. Other than that, awesome! :)

Thanks CK. :)

Here's something else I'm working on, I'm gonna add some lyrics, some midi effects and hopefully my voice. Something I've wanted to do for a while. So here's the Midi version of it, surprise! It's a rock song.

EDIT: Just finished lyrics. Here they are.

It’s a shame to see you here inside my dream,
As the storm outside my window begins to fade and passes.
It leaves me with a numbing sense,
That something old has gone to ashes.
So why should I try,
To revive what’ll die,
If you walk through the door,
One more time.

I don’t want to,
I can’t take it,
Break these chains,
That make me fake it!

Why did you break your promise,
You’re golden word you called it.
I gave you so many chances,
But you screwed them all up!

Those days,
Of lonely waiting,
Waiting for you to come...
I started losing faith in you.
You gave me nothing that was true.

So I sing this song,
And I learn to fly.
I’m starting my own life,
Without you and your lies.
I know I’m better than this,
I know I’m better than you!

I don’t want to,
I can’t take it,
Break these chains,
That make me fake it!

Why did you break your promise,
You’re golden word you called it.
I gave you so many chances,
But you screwed them all up!

Once more I dream of you.
And I see, the awful things you do.
The drugs, the beer,
The lies, the fear.
One more thing, I can’t forgive.

I hate you!
I can’t put it any other way.
I write too many lyrics,
You don’t deserve them!

So don’t forget,
No.
Don’t you fucking forget!

*guitar interlude to piano/strings interlude*

I know you’re hurting,
But damn’t so am I.

I can’t sleep tonight,
There’s too much on my mind.
And I just want to make this right,
Even though there’s nothing left to find...

Why did you break your promise,
You’re golden word you called it.
I gave you so many chances,
But you never really tried...

EDIT: And about yours, I'll get to that before Tuesday. I say Tuesday because I'm leaving for Kansas then, so I'll make sure to get it done before then.

Here's an old as hell MIDI I dug up. This is more than a year old, atleast the melody is. The last 15 seconds or so I just added recently, I may finish it. What do you think?
Title: I like it a bit.
Post by: aboutasoandthis on September 04, 2006, 05:19:06 PM
This might disappoint you. It sounded more hip-hop than hard rock. :eyes: Or at least until the guitar riffs came in. I think it was the intro. I'm not a fan of this type of music, but I did like this song. Nice job.

Actually not too surprised you said that. The woodblocks in the BG add that effect. I mainly called it Hard Rock cuz of the ending.

I like teh battle theme. Haven't listened to the other thing yet.

If you could make the battle theme have more intensity, but still keep the same upbeat-calm-but-parilous feel, it would probally be the best one I've heard in a long time.
Title: Battle2
Post by: aboutasoandthis on September 04, 2006, 05:59:26 PM
You know, this really minds me of Shadow of the Colossus a lot. Except 59 seconds and on. I think it would sound better fully orchestrated like in a movie or something.

Put it this way, if you didn't already give me an excellent one, I would've asked to use this as my final boss. :D
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on September 04, 2006, 06:21:51 PM
lol, i'll take that as a compliment. Here's an edited version of Battle2. (BTW, that's not it's final name.)

Tell me ALL the intruments you used at the point of 20 Seconds to 38 Seconds, plz:p.

I don't notice much difference between the two. Does this one loop? It sounds like it does. Anyways, I would suggest taking out the last 20 seconds or so. Kinda reset the mood for me. I still like it though, of course.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on September 09, 2006, 05:40:26 PM
I used String Ensemble, Lead 8 (Bass) and simple percussion.

And yeah, there's really not much difference at all accept the extra length, and during the extra length(which is really a loop of the beginning) I added more instruments and an acoustic snare to make it 'heavier'. More 'intense'.

I may loop it and leave it as it is so people can use it if they like.

Thanks for the compliment. :D Songs can be interpretted anyway the listener likes, that's what makes them great. But, just so you know, I didn't write this for my girlfriend. Me and my girlfriend are pretty solid right now actually, but since you're the listener and you are going through that, then I can see how you'd take it that way. Which is perfectly fine and actually kinda cool. I'd like to reach as many people as possible with my music.

Here's something I'm working on. It's an FF style battle theme rocked out. I kinda went off track though after the intro, so it gets kinda hardcore and crazy. But hey, it's just for fun.

Of all the songs you've produced, this one is probably one of the best.  All things I've even attempted pale in comparison to this song's brilliance.  It actually made me stop everything I was doing and listen to it the first time through.  I like how simple the intro is.  It's quiet and kinda dark, and sets up the mood for the rest of the song.  I giva you five stars outta five.  You should consider making a more amped-up remake with a loop in it for a battle theme.  That would be pretty fuckin' sweet.

thanks. :D

Here's another version, there's a slight difference. The first Jazz Guitar solo is better and when the screech thing fades in at the end, it sounds a lot better.
Title:

I like the original better still, but the second version is pretty nice.  I like the sound the solo has to it.

Thanks, here's one more edit of it. I was just bored and decided to **** around with it. It's not very good in my opinion and I like the second onbe best, but I might as well release it. I tried to make it more hardcore towards the end but it fell apart. Blah, whatever, I didn't erase the other one so I don't care.

I've listened to the first Paper Ice so far. This sounds like a real song. It's better than half the stuff on MTV (I don't listen to rock much, remember that). I wonder what the lyrics to this would be like.

PLEASE use something like this in your game. This is good.

I figured I might as well post this, too.
 Gouge Another Hole MP3 (http://media.putfile.com/Gouge-Another-Hole)

It's an old old MIDI I stumbled upon while looking for something sad to inspire me making a sad theme. Go figure, I made it so long ago, I just touched it up and used it instead of making a new. I thought it'd be cool to hear it in this format.

Thanks, I used this program CK showed me. It's freeware called Synth Font. The only problem is you need to find sound fonts to replace mid tracks with. Which really isn't a problem because there are plenty of really good free sound fonts to work with.

This is what happesn when I get bored and have like 6 hours on my hand.

You are possibly the most talented composer I've seen online in months, years, maybe ever! I mean, really, a lot of these songs are just plain inspired. I'm tempted to try using a few in my games, but on the other hand, I really doubt anything I could do with my games could do justice. These songs are professional caliber, no question about it.

It sounds pretty good. I don't think it's your best, but it's still nice. Good job. :)

Btw, did you lose interest in the whole SynthFont thing? I think at some point you told me you did. Well, if you're ever looking to make music that kinda sounds like today's generation of music, I have some good fonts for that. They're the ones I used to make Discover. :p

Thanks for the comments guys.

To AFL: The notes don't harmonize much better. How about you do something that you can call your own. and BTW: Last Words is a variation of The Bringing, basically, the same song.

Here's a song I may use in my game. This song I would prefer people didn't use in their games/other projects unless they ask me via pm and I say yes.

The loop isn't too good so I'll probably be fixing that, but whatcha think?
Title:
Post by: FHZebedee on January 24, 2007, 02:20:24 PM
Great song! Very Legend of Dragoon or such with its style. Epic tragedy feeling, probably good for some dramatic loss or such in a game. A little brief, and doesn't loop so well, but still a really emotional piece.

(Tried listening to it at a higher tempo... Works pretty good as a theme for a big boss, maybe final, if it had a slightly more dramatic/ominous feel.)

That little instrument (Xylophone, Marimba, I honestly don't know) and the percussion were great. It even had a good use of the choir.

I like it. Could use some direction instead of just being background music in my opinion.

EDIT: I can also rip sound for sound effects or BG noise. Nothing especially hard, but just so you people know.

Can you put it up on Putfile or something though? I don't want anyone to steal it. I just want to see what people say about it.
Title:
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on April 30, 2007, 09:25:45 PM

Next to God was effin' beautiful.  Kinda dramatic.  Reminded me of a battle where two people who used to know each other had to face off to the death or something.  Wish I could DL it just so I could listen to it off-line.

The Fight Theme was pretty good too.  Not really any specific kind of battle comes to mind, but I guess that's not really a bad thing.

Here's an old song I made on my second Album. I've added a lot to it and made it sound better. Tell me what you think. Not much has changed in the beginning, it's mostly middle and end. It's a lot more ska-ish.

I'm considering recording the guitar and having synth patches for all the other instruments and singing lyrics.

And another song I just severely edited. It was an old old song I did. It's called Ha Shalom and it was originally done by this guy named Dave Giplin I think it was. Anyways, it sounds to me like a good intro. What do you guys think?
Title:
Post by: game_maniac on June 01, 2007, 04:21:12 PM
Just listened to Ha Shalom, very nice indeed, but to me it sounds more appropriate for an important plot point (something like discovering the world's is going to be destroyed, or anything just as massive). Maybe it would also sound good in one of them "old mysterious temples".

As for skalternative, I dunno if it was what you were aiming for, but it sounds like it has a very happy mood. I think it fit in great in games or scenes with a present-day setting.

Overall, I think they're all good, very enjoyable to listen and re-listen to.

Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on June 01, 2007, 04:32:44 PM

My thoughts for the last three.

I didn't really like the first one. It sound a like something from an anime.

I think the second would fit in a comedic game about spies. I know you don't play many video games anymore, but if you look up Sly Cooper, you might see what I'm talking about.

I liked the last one. It sounded like a man was about to die, and his life was flashing before his eyes. It feels like something should be taken out though...

Really, you didn't like Mellow1? I know it's not the greatest thing I've ever written, but I like it a lot. =[ <<<<*Is not as tragically hurt as makes it seem*

Really? Some odd suggestions you guys are giving me for this one.

Yes, I believe the problem was the tempo change. I fixed that earlier today, here's a newer version if you'd like to hear it.

*kicks topic for no apparent reason but to say that Mellow 1 and 2 are awesome*

EDIT:  Hm... i think I'm gonna open that Experiment 3 midi and try and play it on my oboe...

How would you guys feel about this as a boss theme, it's not finished yet, but how about as it is so far?
Title:
Post by: aboutasoandthis on July 26, 2007, 04:52:56 PM
Something about the beginning loop needs to be changed. The notes don't really flow together. However almost everything else is great. I loved the guitar.

And that new Mellow piece you posted is beautiful...You wouldn't mind if I used it would you?
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on July 26, 2007, 05:44:43 PM
In the beginning is it the strings that come in or the bass or maybe  the guitar? Here's the finished rest of it, I'll probably end up tweaking it before it's actually finished, but this is pretty much it.

As for Mellow2, I wouldn't mind at all if you used it.

Tell me what you guys think of this semi finished MIDI.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on July 26, 2007, 07:28:00 PM
Here's another quick one I whipped up. It's a four instrument raggae (sp?) ish theme. Think it would work for a forest theme?
Title:
Post by: aboutasoandthis on July 27, 2007, 02:23:40 PM
As to Techno Shiat, I meant the very first thing you hear on the song that continues to loop. Is the instrument called a synth bass? One note in its loop needs to be changed.

I LOVE the percussion on this one. It lacks atmosphere though since it's basically a dungeon theme. This song will get annoying if you don't make it more subtle.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on July 27, 2007, 02:59:25 PM
I think I know what you mean about Techno Shiat. The way it comes in is weird and off beat. Hmm... I'll mess around with it. As for Odd Theme1, I think I know what you mean there also, lol. You saying it's needs a longer mellow part before it loops?
Title:
Post by: aboutasoandthis on July 27, 2007, 04:28:31 PM
For the reggae song I'm thinking...keep the basic melodies while using more instruments. Instead of one loud instrument, use two or three quiet ones.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on July 27, 2007, 10:19:20 PM
I think I've got it. Maybe, what do you think?

EDIT: I'm thinking this might be a good city theme.

EDIT2: Here's an experiment I did with the intro to that Boss Theme, tell me if you like it.

Title:
Post by: aboutasoandthis on July 27, 2007, 11:03:28 PM
I messed around with the song a bit. Change the Acoustic Bass to a Slap Bass, and change the Recorder to an Electric Bass Pick. I also think the atmosphere track should be split up into two different instruments somehow.

I think one more thing should be added to the percussion as well. Maybe...Ride Cymbal? Maybe some maracas or a tambourine too? Something needs to be there.

It reminded me of a Final Fantasy intro. Was this what you were going for? I don't hate it, but I don't know if I like it either. I love the rest of the song though. It flows.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on July 27, 2007, 11:23:42 PM
Hm... A little yes, I wanted it to have one of those intros for the part where the screen transitions into battle.
Title:
Post by: aboutasoandthis on July 27, 2007, 11:58:18 PM
I think I made you mess it up somehow. It definitly has the atmosphere that I suggested, but now it sounds like an actual song instead of a game theme. You might want to wait for a second opinion.

Thanks =] I heard this Reggae band play once. And they had the percussion all weird and backwards(if you want to put it that way). As in using the bass drum in place of the snare (if you know what I mean) and then the snare came in but it was really just odd. And then the positioning of the cymbal. I really liked it, so I've been wanting to do a reggae experiment since.

Good job.

Some aspects of it were good, but it definately needs work. I'd actually record it all again, which'll make it better just because you've improved, and maybe think about some of the instrument choices. The piano coming in near the end was perfect.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on June 07, 2008, 01:43:53 PM
just curious, what parts did you not like so much.
Title:
Post by: Zerlina on June 07, 2008, 04:25:46 PM
I like some of the chords, and especially into that (C?) section where it picks up, I really like it.  But in the (B?) section where the melody goes along with those sustained bass notes, the tempo feels a bit off. I can see how it works, but maybe in a game it would be distracting to the player.

Hey guys, been real busy with things lately. Haven't had much time for RPGMaker or Midis. I've got some things for you though I've been meaning to post. First off: Opinion time! ... again =P

Here's the original version of an old theme.
Click here to listen to Theme4 (http://media.putfile.com/Theme4-85)

Here it is after a little bit of sprucing up.
Click here to listen to 'Theme4-Orchestra' (http://media.putfile.com/Theme4-Orchestra)

The question's simple, which one do you like better?
Also, I've got another midi, it's a final boss midi. Now, keeping in mind, the impact of the song on the player depends greatly on the situation of the RPG, how would you feel if you played through a whole game, got to the final boss and this song started playing?
Click here to listen to 'Final-Battle-Song' (http://media.putfile.com/Final-Battle-Song)

Don't get too mad Aboutasoandthis, it isn't EXACTLY the same thing I made for you. I added a lot to it at the end. If you want me to take it down, just ask.

Theme 4 sounds nicer after you spruced it up, but I think the brass that comes is too loud and should be just a little bit quieter. It's cool, though! :)

Final Battle was cool, though it took a long time for it to become intense. I just hope you find a way to loop back to the intense part so the player doesn't lose that rhythm! Oh and I LOVE how you remixed the main theme into it! That was awesome!

Yeah, I guess you'd call this version the... full-length? haha, idk, there'll be a slightly different version used in the game, just one that loops better. Also, I'll probably time it in the event so that it's almost at the intense part or just at the intense part when you enter the battle.

I may consider doing a request. But uh, when you say "like pirates 2 DMC" , do you mean just evil sounding with organ and piratey(<Keyword), or evil sounding with organ, using PotC as an example?

I was playing around with the solo song and I came up with this...

It's not the best I have ever done but it was fun to make something based off of a MIDI, I have never done that before.

Yeah, I don't know why I called it Punch Me but with all of the negativity I've felt from people on this forum, it seemed appropriate.

I always get a little carried away with my midis and then end they up not working 'cuz themes are suppose to be simple. Well, Blizzard seems like a good company to work with, I guess 0_o, I use RPGMaker as a past time so I never too it too seriously. However, hope all works out at your new job.

EDIT: Well, I might as well post this, it's an old battle theme. One of the very first I ever made. I was bored today and decided to remake it.

I have heard good things about your musical talent so I figured I'd drop in and see what you're about. I couldn't bring myself to read 15 pages worth of text but since you have so kindly provided a before and after, I'll live with that. Based on a quick comparison, that's definite improvement.

The revamped version is great piece. If I didn't already have a battle song for my game, I would use that one if you made it hard-beat all the way. From what I have heard from all the other RPG Maker song writers, you are by far the best when it comes to video game music.

Keep it up, you're a force to be rivaled with.

The only thing that bugged me is that it didn't really go anywhere. Other than that, it was really good. I especially enjoyed the end when things picked up.

CK: Thanks, I've been going back and doing some of my very first songs over, maybe I will continue with the trend.

Idk, not much of an anything theme. Just experimenting with weird notes and different styles. I've been listening to and examining a lot of final fantasy music.

Meh, idk, figured I'd post these. Two rather large MIDIs. One's a 9 minute Final Boss conflict, the other's a 15 minute "Made just to make a long midi" midi.

I just listened to Experiment #9.
It's definitely an experiment.
I'd say the strongest parts in it are the parts involving the string orchestra.
And the part 12 minutes in.
And the ending is...weird.
I like the phone ringing idea, but it didn't really blend into the rest of the song.
It kind of came right the hell out of nowhere, and almost seemed as if you didn't really know what else to do.

Haven't listened to the boss song yet though, as soon as I heard "15 minutes just 'cuz", I had to listen.

XD

Yeah, there's one part about 7 minutes in until about 7:30, where I just really didn't give a crap what it sounded like. I wasn't really amazing for a singular, connecting theme, more or less a bunch of songs that sometimes branch into another.

Amazazazing :o

Yeah...it does show alot.
It's pretty fun to listen to though.
Except for when it decides to change styles, that kind of throws people off.

I have a feeling that I'm taking it ever so slightly too seriously D: .

Two more MIDIs for ya, placed under the other category. I've also updated the front page so it's not so messy. My Box account was all cluttered so I deleted all the midi files, I'll reupload the good ones later and they'll all be there on the front page for anyone who wants to download them.

Yeahh, understandable. Though you gotta admit, the sprite sized battle charas were ingenious because you could keep the animation simple or make it as complex as you wanted or were skilled enough to do. It was a cure for the crappy RTP style ones. One I was more than happy to make the transition to.

But that's cool that you're still working on your game. I've been working on mine too, but haven't posted much. I mainly want to make progress before posting anything. And yeah, I'm too lazy to change the avatar. lol

I like the (Take 2), even if it's not in the actual title.

I like the actual song, also.

EDIT: It's a bit mono, doesn't really have an actual climax, but that, if anything, adds to it.
It's a very calming piece.
It's something that I'd actually want to hear if the end of the world actually comes.
It fits the theme of the world falling apart, but doesn't seem to make a big deal out of it.
Title: Re: Dren's Midi Lollapalooza

That's kind of what I was going for. A feeling of awe and a tense situation but at the same time, helplessness, only able to watch as it all falls apart.

EDIT: Also, the (Take 2) part is just cuz that was the second time I'd mixed it down to mp3. The bass on the first one was kind of lame.

and it's really the last one.

ADD6 - The Last of them All (http://www.box.net/shared/4v47soabzr)   -Time-   26:05

I didn't do all the tempo changes, modulation, pitch and pan changes I would have liked because I don't have a program capable of doing that anymore  buuuuuut... it's fine. I made this, so I figured the one fan I have of these might wanna hear it. =P (here's looking at you, Fruck!) I'm considering recording all the ADD with better MIDI fonts and guitar and shtuff. (As for the guitar, recording what's humanly possible and less some). Then slap some fancy titles on em and zip em as an "album" of sorts. Maybe I will, most likely I won't. =D

To date, the ADD Saga is a total of 83 minutes and 11 seconds long.

And I don't care that 2 and 3 combined don't even beat the first one in length. Think of them as dwarf planets, but they shall retain their glorious title as not a fledgling, but a...! (I lost track of fancy words to fill up that sentence) ...songs.

Yeah!

I do believe it takes a phenomenal amount of talent to be able to hold a persons interest this long.
(been listenting for ~10 minutes, I'll edit again when it's done)

EDIT: There's a few "clang"'s that seem sour, but that may just be me.

EDIT2: It honestly seemed to kind of blend together near the end to me.
I did like it, it just kind of blurred.

The "clangs" you hear are most likely purposefully. Notably, the one at the end with the accordion. I guess you could say it's "symbolic" of my frustration, if you want a stupid artistic reason for it.

Thanks for listening though! I'm surprised you listened to the whole thing. 0_o

It's been a while since I shared any music. I'm asking now for a comparison. Here's an old battle theme.

Old Version (http://www.box.net/shared/ovi1vutr73)

And the new, updated version.

The two have a big difference in instrumentation and styling, even if they both use the same basic theme.  I wouldn't say one is better than the other, but one would be more suited for one situation than another.  The original one, which I'm pretty sure was the main fight theme from AOA works well as you used it, and I would say that the revamped version would probably fit better as a sub-boss or some sort of side quest.

As for the techno song, I kind of love it.  It has that quirky chiptune-sound going on with the synth, and a kind of classic Sonic sound toward the end, which I would have capitalized on instead of cutting it short.  Maybe extend the song and reintroduce that theme or something, or just have it repeat a few times.  That part feels too short to me for some reason.

Hope that helps!

I was feeling the same way about the techno song.
http://www.box.net/shared/o4ji7fdm4r
(renamed for giggles)

Also, the fight theme was the one from AoA. So, I can't use both of them. But as a normal fight theme, I think it should fit. What do you think?

ALSO, MP3 experiment. Just an experiment.

I like what you did with the MIDI, extending the sections and including more repeats.  I kind of miss the guitar part, though.  (I think it was a guitar, at the end.)  The minor changes made it more enjoyable, for me at least, because the music didn't change as soon as I was getting used to it.  It's good for music to move, but moving too fast can be a problem.

As for the MP3, I thought it was a good adaptation from MIDI.  The change in sound and quality gave it a different feel in my opinion.  It felt more like a toy house battle or something like that.  I don't have synasthesia, but that's what I saw when I listened to it.

Looking forward to your next works!

This album is intended for use while rpgmaking. Otherwise, why the **** are you listening to midis. It is called...
