OH MY GOD.
If they think that's a huge ugly disruption worthy of diploma denial, then they should have been at my graduation! It was practically like a football game, what with all the cheering and airhorns and nondescript jazzination.

Its not their fault anyway...Its not like youre gonna go on stage and be like to everybody who cheers you and tell them to be quiet. They wouldnt hear you.

It's there fault for being so well liked and stuff.

They should've been complete losers or something. Then, nowbody would've cheered for them.

A black mother will  ALWAYS cheer for her child, not to mention the 57 others who will be there. =)

"And I think that led us to saying we have to do something about this to restore some dignity and honor to the ceremony so that everyone can appreciate it and enjoy it."

Oh, because everyone enjoys completing eight hours of public service work, answering phones, sorting books or doing other chores for the district, situated about 150 miles southwest of Chicago to get their diploma because someone else was a wee bit too noisy.

I try to think that people as a whole aren't stupid, but I just keep on being proved wrong.

Hehe, I blew bubbles at my grad-jee-ay-shun yesterday. And we did the wave randomly... or at least the dumbasses did. My shoes hurt too much. ^^
But yeah, I heard about this a while ago. Talk about punishing the wrong person.
You know what they should do? They should implant mics in the kids' arms so they can't take them out, and thoe will detect when the child is making inappropriate noise. When they do, giant hideous cyborg guards will come and haul them away to the secret cancerous underground tunnels (my school actually has those.... ^^), where they will be forced to do the Macarena and eat only with broken sporks.........
FOOOOORRRRR AAALLLLLL TIIIIIIMMMMEEEEE..... WOOOOOOOOOOO.............

...I don't think so. Not only is that based on an extremely high-cost budget, but it's also impractical and just plain stupid. How 'bout having security escort disruptive parties from the area? Cheap, effective, and nobody loses their diploma.

How about letting people be people. Ain't nothing wrong with some cheering. Everyone does it at one point or another.
Title:
Post by: Archem on June 04, 2007, 06:59:10 PM
...Exactly. That's what I believe, but I guess I lost track of that with my last comment. Look at that as an "if necessary" response. Mid is right, restricting people in such a way is just wrong.

Phayre's above comment was just on how ridiculous the whole thing is.
I'm sure this is some kind of infringement of rights...... though those (especially first amendment) are often suspended from school due to safety issues, like the recent shooting threats at my school caused massive restrictions all around. This doesn't make sense. Can't hear kids' names? Well, wait til the applause and cheers die down. Wow..... that was hard, wasn't it?
Or we could go with cyborg guards. Works too.

Looks like some people need to calm down and take that stick out of their ***. That's really fuckin' ridiculous that they would take away someone's diploma because their PARENTS were proud and happy for them. And then they want them to do community service, basically, to get their diploma after already four years of earning it?!?! I'm not even anyone involved and it pisses me off.

People these days are too damn sensitive and touchy. And the worst part is they get away with being such bitches.

So that's what a quote bug is...

Me sorry.

Okay it's gone now.

But to stay on topic, this is stupid. A graduation is a celebration, even if it is at the high-school level. This is in no way a solemn ceremony. If the noise was seriously that disruptive and undignified, why didn't they just wait two seconds before calling out the next line of names? Especially since their on the news, they are making themselves look like hicks and giving Illinois a bad name.
