Title: Team Storyline (take 2)
Post by: Phayre on June 28, 2007, 08:18:51 PM
All right.
The poster of the original TS thread is apparently inactive. And the thread is full of spam. So let's try it again.

Team Storyline is devoted to helping people with every part of their story. Characters, continuity, little quirks, curiousity, whatever. If it's a spoiler free question, post it here. If you don't want to spoil the whole forum, PM it to either myself, roland_deschain, or AForgottenLegend.
If you have some kind of creative flair and want to help, post and you can join our little storyline cult.
Title: I can't believe I'm saying this..
Post by: aboutasoandthis on June 28, 2007, 10:16:00 PM
My project is currently on hiatus, so I've decided to help other people with their projects. This'll last until I can find a way to get my project back.

I want to ask if I can join Team Storyline. People say I'm a great writer. I can recognize theme, symbolism, and consistency in storylines. I'm usually polite. While I've never completed a game, I have made several effective storylines and scenarios to go with them.
I also have a firm grasp of RPG Maker 2003 and it's capabilities. This includes spriting, programming, event scripting, and general game design.

I think it would be a good idea to include me because I have a difference in opinion between you three. I play different games than you, so I can broaden your horizons. Can I join Team Storyline for now?

I too would like to join. I'm usually quite creative, and I seem to lack the drive lately to put my own ideas into a playable form. I'm full of great ideas, but chances are nobody wants my ideas. Therefore, I'm up to offering help or suggestions to other developing story writers or stumped game developers. I'm a good guy (most people here can atone to that), and my bitter story ideas can help darken up a story and bring things down to earth where it's not all sunshine and daisies. I like to dabble in the ideas of insanity, unhappy endings, dark and unorthodox settings, and the fear of social takeover by a hostile force.

As far as I'm concerned, you guys are both in. Hopefully, RD and AFL will reply soon.
AFL has in his sig a link to a forum. Apparently that's the secret lair of TS, so, uhmm.... sign up I guess.

I asked for a confirmation e-mail for the forum twice, but it didn't send me one.

Ah, crap.
I can't do nothin' 'bout that. Talk to AFL, he runs the thing.

Sorry aboutasoandthis!  Check your junk mail, it may be in there.

Yay new thread.  Yay! New members of Team Storyline!

Thank you Phayre for starting the new thread.  I'm currently running on AOL (See the General Mod Thread in the forum), so I've been working on AFL.

Yeah, if it still doesn't work, try making a new account and use a different e-mail.

I guess yahoo doesn't like the account activation e-mail too much.

I'll be on when I can, which will be Sundays at some ridiculous hour of the night, but still. Damn my job and working six days a week.

Just a kick to show that we aren't dead.  No, we are not dead.  Get advice from us.  Please, do so.  Now.

I've been posting advice in the game threads themselves, rather than referring folks here. Face it, aFL. No one gives a crap. People who have bad stories don't want advice.

Well...look at the bright side. When 3.0 is finished, we'll have to go up against the Magazine team in a team-game contest, assuming Fortet decides to restart it.

Yeah I got nothin.'

A team game?
I can see it now... the TS RPG... with kickass music, kickass story... and so much Mack and Blue you could just puke. I like.
Title: I need help.....
Post by: Vlad Shadeu on July 31, 2007, 04:12:36 AM
in more ways than one. i really have no clue where to send my story, but it will have many funny parody and non-parody sidetracks
okay, here is what i know will happen in mi story:

Rex(main dude) discovers that his family is moving (game designer evicted them)*done*

Goes to school to tell Friend and his crush*done*

his friend and crush join the party, then they go to class. *done*

in class, it's all creepyfied. then, evil demon dude abducts Rex's sister, and they head off to the main adventure *done*

they save a village from evil hydra (this part is done, but need to make it funneh)

*need a lot of sidetracks to add in here*

the bond between the characters grows significantly, and eventually the crush and main character fall in love.

*need a lot of sidetracks to add in here*

in the end, they will discover that the great evil is a smurf. said smurf can turn into a bunny.

other stuff:
the game has a current total of 14 summon animations, and i am turning them into summons. the complete game will have 20+summons, so if you got ideas, give them to me, please

bonus chars/items: once the game is over they can acess bonus zones with varouis new (lv 1) characters and new items. if you got any ideas to enhance this place, please tell me.

possibly: a second story using another set of characters that i already have. this story will be as long as the original, and only acessible after you beat the game.

i want this game to be as long and as fun and as funny as i can make it, so please help!

A smurf? Oh dear. I quake in terror! *shudder*
I'm glad we finally have a request!
The first step to making a funny story is adding quirks to your characters. Like, is Rex your normal schoolboy? Well, what if he's totally normal except for his insane fear of mongooses? Everywhere he goes, he checks for them. Whenever there's evil afoot, he blames it on those %@%! mongooses. Something like that will add humor to normal situations. Also, exaggerate everything. Not just,
"Oh, brave strangers, save out town from the evil Hydra!"
but
"Lo, the brave strangers have come to vanquish the hideous Hydra which terrorizes our tranquil country town!" or sommat. Take cliche character types and exaggerate them, then add oddities, like the hero's crush character is all goo-goo about him once they fall in love, but every time he mentions frosting, she smacks him with a frying pan.
this is all advice for insane, zany humor, which I love. For a game with more sarcastic, scathing humor, perhaps have some fourth wall moments, meaning where characters mention things outside their own world or comment on the status of the game itself. For example:
Hero: " Oh, pff. It's just a Hydra. being the brave RPG hero, I must vanquish it, but not before watching it  kill hundreds of villagers. Only when it abducts my true love must it be slain... I'm so bloody excited.... *sigh*"

These are just examples, not things to actually use, since they bite. I find that using examples is the best way to demonstrate something.

As for along the way, just take your stereotypical RPG quests and twist them. I'll post more later, for now, the rest of TS will help! *rides off gallantly*

thanks man. i'm working on a couple projects here, and i don't know exactly how to add more humor. which is unusual, seeing i make the funniest sprite comic most people ever heard of. mebbe i'll ask for help on my other thing later.... but still, thanks for the help. did you say that other TS'ers whould help? yayzers! come on, guys, help me, please.

Make it so then the hydra fell on top of a few houses when you killed it.  And the angry villagers chase after you.  Like this:
"Oh no!  The hydra's falling on the houses!"
"Holy crap!  It is!"
*BOOM*
"My house!"
"GET OVER HERE RPG HERO!!!!!!!!"
"Run Away!!!!!!"
