Title: Importing Question

I wanna import a picture of my sprited hedgehog.. How would I do that? There's two pics on the pic, the big pic, and the small sprite.  I want to import the small sprite only,  would i have to cut the small sprite out of the sprite sheet.  Put it on another image file, and than attempt to import it that way?

The small sprite is a charset right? Open an existing charset in MSpaint. You can see exactly where the poses need to be and what size it needs to be.
