Title: "Giant World" chipset
Post by: Valiere on April 08, 2009, 05:33:34 AM
Okay, I was gonna wait to perfect this tomorrow and then post it, but I'm really tired and kinda just want to show you guys what I've got so far. This is a work in progress.

For my foray into chipset-making, I wanted to make something unique and special that doesn't already exist. So I made what the world looks like after you get hit with a shrink ray. Because you were all totally going to add that to your game until remembered there's no chipset for it, shut up, yes you were. Well, your troubles are over.

Everything is mine except for the stuff that's obviously RTP that I left on there for now.

And these additional animations:

And objects:

Plus some giant bugs.

Here's some ratty screenshots I threw together of this in action. Sorry for using the charset I made for you, Terradont. I was going to make a new charset for this, but again, tired.

One of the animations makes messages flash on the giant cell phone if you put the event on the middle-right side of it. You can make your own if you're so inclined. There's not much room to write anything, so I hope whatever you have to say can fit on one of those Valentine's candy hearts.

Totally worth it. Go for it, Sybel!

I didn't have room to add many flowers, but you can replace the dandelion's head with a seed-dispersing dandelion head in the animations. If you set the event to spin around, a seed will float off of it. Also, there's four flavors of butterfly that can pollinate the flower.

That's one big cup. It was the first thing I made, so I ended up making everything else progressively smaller. Maybe it's one of those Giant Gulp drinks from 7-Eleven.

I think my rock pond turned out pretty cool. The lilypads are an animation that will float on the water.

I think the tree looks pretty good too.

So uh, suggestions and criticism are definitely welcome. I'm going to try to add ways to add dimension to the chipset. Animation suggestions are definitely welcome since I only have a few so far. Tell me what you think!

The tree needs mroe variation. Do you ever see trees in real life that are straight poles with no features all the way along? Just add some branches or something to that effect.

Other than that, awesome.

Thanks :3

Only trouble is...I'm straight up out of room for large upper-level objects. Unless there's a way to add more, either I gotta get rid of something, or big branches are out of the question.

Events.

Make a huge branch solely out of events? Ouch.

But yeah, I might do that once everything else is ironed out.

Post by: Prpl_Mage on April 08, 2009, 06:49:31 AM
Nah, no branches. Add some variation on the bark and it should look good. Like some cracks and maybe a hole.

Looking good otherwise. Many uses for one chipset.

Looks really nice val.
However, on the tree, you need to carry the dark lowlight/outline you see on the left, along the right side of the stalk, for the sake of visual contrast and consitency.
I love your pond though

Yeah, I saw that once I posted it and corrected it.

Any more chipsets? I think so. Probably something a bit more conventional next time, like a colorful forest or an old western ghost town.

Ladybug, bee, beetle, spider, ant, pond skater, fly, and inchworm

I think those are the best part. Great job! I might use these if I can find their respective monsters!

I might actually make the monsters for them in a little while. Except the inchworm. Really, are you going to fight an inchworm?

I want to fight an inchworm.

I can imagine fighting a water strider, those things are VICIOUS to creatures smaller than a rat. But an inchworm is about as vicious as... ... ... ... ... ... something not vicious! XD
Title: Re: "Giant World" chipset
Post by: Valiere on April 08, 2009, 10:51:22 PM
I'm trying to think of what kind of attacks an inchworm would have. Wiki says that when disturbed, they stand erect to resemble a twig. I guess that could increase its evasion...or something...

And it can transform into a moth mid-battle. That's kind of cool.

Can you make a caterpillar?
Title: Re: "Giant World" chipset

An inchworm is technically a caterpillar. But I can make a bigger one.

Any other bug requests for my next bug charset? I know you have your favorite bugs.

And now that I think about it, I wanna make it so you can get inside the tree and climb branches and stuff. Oh, and an animation of a wiggling cocoon. This sounds win already.

Lol seriously I do. I can't stand spiders!... Yet oddy your looks good.
Title: Re: "Giant World" chipset
Post by: Valiere on April 09, 2009, 02:35:26 AM
I thought the spider was the worst of the lot actually. Needed to be bigger than the charset format would allow, too many legs...all those legs, moving rhythmically with its blood flow, its fuzzy fangs yearning to bite, to spread its venom...a single bite causing a savage infection, blackening and decaying your skin...

Oh, sorry. Just remember that there most assuredly is not a giant spider lurking in your bedsheets, waiting for you to slip your naked feet right into biting range.

I have some suggestions at the least: Stag Beetle, Wasp, Wood Louse, Grasshopper, Cricket, Assassin Bug (NASTY BUG!), Mosquito (HATE THEM), and Leafhopper (not to be confused with a grasshopper). Really common bugs that you see crawling through the grass all the time.
Title: Re: "Giant World" chipset
Post by: Valiere on April 09, 2009, 05:31:42 AM
Grasshopper's a really good one. Can't believe I didn't think of it.

Wasp, too.

Assassin Bug (NASTY BUG!),

Yeah it is. Also has a cool design. As for a request I have only one word... DRAGON FlY!! Can you say boss battle? Also if you ever expand this you should do a giant spider web and the inside of a house. Actually I think you could make one awesome game using these Charas and your chip set. Heck I'd play it!
Title: Re: "Giant World" chipset
Post by: Valiere on April 10, 2009, 03:23:37 AM
I'm actually probably going to expand it with the inside of a tree, a tree branch, and a spider web. Some reeds around the pond would be cool too. I'm going to move some of the single-space objects into a charset of additional items.

The dragonfly was actually what I wanted to put in next, since it's perfect for the pond.

And actually, I should extend it beyond insects to add some tadpoles to the pond too.

Does that also mean giant frogs and snakes too? What is this, the Forest of Death durring the Chunin exam? XD
No seriously fighting giant frogs and snakes is the reason I became a Jedi.

Post by: Valiere on April 10, 2009, 03:57:15 AM
Snakes are too big for this. You'd need like 50 events for them to even wriggle around.

Frogs are doable with a couple charsets, but they wouldn't be able to move. Well, I could make their little throat bubble thing go in and out.

Aww too bad about the snakes, but still there's lots of possibilities. I say don't give up! You make me want to try to make a chip set from scratch! :D

Okay, since I haven't touched this set in days, and I'm kind of working on a new chipset, I'm gonna go ahead and post what I've got so far.

Added branches to the tree. You can even add leaves to them. Also added the interior of the tree, which would probably look better if I made a screenshot or something. Shrank the size of the cup and transferred most of the smaller items to a charset, this charset:

BEHOLD, ARE THOSE NOT THE MOST BADASS GIANT SALT AND PEPPER SHAKERS YOU HAVE EVER SEEN?

Added a giant toad. If you set the three parts to spin around, its throat bubble will go in and out.

Two new bugs. Yes, two. I know, I suck. But that snail is damned cool, I think.
