Title: Charas Sprite Off 2 - Round 3
Post by: ellie-is on July 17, 2009, 01:40:05 AM
Restrictions for this round
Size limits: Minimum of 30x30 (that means you cannot leave any transparent space if you decide to go with that size), max of 150x150.
Max number of colors: 4 from this pallete: (http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p6/lucas_irineu/SemTtulo-1-1.png), plus transparency, thats 5 colors.
Background must be transparent. A good idea is to make a sprite that matches our blue background, yet wont blend in too much making it hard to see. I added that ball in there because I was bored, and wanted to see if the palette was usable. With some effort, I am sure you guys can make something nice.
Templates of any sort may not be used.
The image must be saved as .png.

Winners from previous round

Good luck everyone! Remember that if you dont send your sprite until the deadline, you will be disqualified.[/list]

Earlier, I was going to joke that next round you'd be like, "Four colors! 12 hours! GO!" I didn't think you'd actually go through with the color part.

Cool cool.

The only thing I sort of dont understand is
Quote
Minimum of 30x30 (that means you cannot leave any transparent space if you decide to go with that size)

does that mean 30x30 must have no trans.?

Also I have the different theme for charas (the default there was for the original board installed)

Good lord... 4 colors... that's as basic as you can get... that's like... NES, well, given that the transparency was the 4th color. O_o

Actually, my foxy forum friend, that would be about three generations back from NES. Even Atari has more colors than that.

Actually, 4 colors is around the era of NES. Most sprites are only comprised of 3 colors, the 4th color being the transparency. There can be another palette used on one sprite for each block (say the head of Mario could be a different palette from his body), however.

4 colors = Game Boy.

HTML: I meant that you cant have a 10x10 sprite in a 30x30 box... Kinda complicated but I am pretty sure you guys will go with big stuff anyway.

Btw, here's some stuff that was done with 4 colors and no transparency to show that you can make awesomeness out of few colors.

Hm, a few interesting pieces. But I have to run through several pages to hit anything REALLY interesting.

Edit: Yes, I ran through all 21 pages.

Well, you have no one but you to blame :P

I would run through them and post just the interesting ones here, but meh, I am too lazy.

Feel free to do so if you want =P

If that awesome picture (by gemini) can be done in 2 colors, it wont be hard to make something with 5.

Is not that hard to do really. If anything it helps speeding up the process instead of having to use more color. I am having a more difficult time trying to know WHAT to draw. I got no idea what a charas mascot would be beside the naked dude; All it comes to my head, character wise, is an intergalactic blob with a lot of the memberss faces in it's belly and Alex's ponytail.

If nothing else in this contest has pushed your creative limit, this sure as hell will. Good luck you two.

Then you best get ready to lose that money, 'cuz so far I got nothin.

I think my best strategy is to just start on this and see where it takes me.

You guys should base them off of me! :3

You can do it. You are one of the few charas members that work with art and stuff. Just do the same thing, but with pixels.

And hey, you two got a week to think. Cant be that hard.

If nobody sends their stuff in until tomorrow, you both lose, and Osmose gets the EA game for himself. :P

Nope. Besides being busy, and lazy when I had time, I couldn't come up with anything that resembles a 'mascot'. I forfeit. We had a good run anyway.

Awwwww......This ended exactly like the last sprite-off!

And mine isn't creative, but I'm glad I got to try out that pixel-art thing, even if it is a pain in the ass.
