Not really my style, I like more counterpoint focused crap, but still overall really good.

Haha, thats actually something I need to work on.  Oh well, I'm good with my minimalistic style right now, but I hoping to get better at some other ones.

Might I ask where the name "Loo" came from?
Title: Re: Music. I promise it has got better. A little. ;)
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on November 27, 2009, 12:25:27 AM
Um... the name comes from using that sound when singing.  That was kinda my "inspiration" I guess.

Also, there is the cello part... I just realized how much resting it does. =/

And I just remembered that the version I posted here was the e minor version with only 1 sharp.

Don't worry.

Hm... I think I have a song I want to post here next.  Its quite a bit different than the last piece though.  And not as good, but here goes.

Volcano: For Concert Band
(Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet I/II/III, Bass Clarinet, Alto Sax I/II, Tenor Sax, Bari Sax, Trumpet I/II/III, Horn in F I/II/III/IV, Trombone I/II/III, Euphonium, Tuba, Timpani, Glockenspiel, Chimes, Aux. Percussion)

Appox. Time- 5:12

http://www.box.net/shared/qgn7gfhfa1

I think I still have a bit of work on this one.  It needs come dynamics and more percussion parts.

So you don't have to look for it ^

I really want some opinions on this.  I might use it somewhere in my game.  Its got an interesting sound to it.

EDIT:
While I'm posting lyrics for Never Win below, I'll add them for this one, too.
Girl 1: Once upon a time
when I curiously looked at the sky
I dreamt of a far off place
Where nobody would know my face

Girl 2:When we are young,
We are taught to have done
Everything right by our elders
Even if they are the assaulters

Both: Into the woods we went
Never again have we sent
Any joy or happiness
Only pain and loneliness

Both: Accusare nemo se debit, nisi coram Deo
Girl 1:(Ooh) Girl 2: Cineri gloria sera est,
Girl 1:(Ooh) Girl 2:Cicatrix manet,
Girl 1:(Ooh) Girl 2:Cupiditas ex homine,
Girl 1:(Ooh) Girl 2:Cupido ex stulto numquam tollitur

Girl 1:(Ooh) Girl 2:Never again shall I  enter, never a-gain shall I go into the dreadful wood, Never oh, never  oh, never a-gain

Both: I will not go!
Title: AFL's Music -- 1/11 Update! Three tunes for your listening pleasure.
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on January 11, 2012, 05:42:29 AM
Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 14 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic.

Uh, erm... well, yes.

Anyway, I know that the stuff I write isn't up the right alley for most of you... but, here's some of my recent stuff.
Ex Umbra in Lucem - Solo for English Horn and Orchestra -WIP- (http://bando.posterous.com/ex-umbra-in-lucem-solo-for-english-horn-and-f)
Never Win for Voice and Piano (http://bando.posterous.com/never-win-wip)
Through the Looking Glass for Indoor Percussion Ensemble (http://bando.posterous.com/through-the-looking-glass-wippercussion-updat)

Comment if you will.  The middle one, Never Win, is the shortest of the three and is actually a song for one of the characters in my game.  The voice part is played by a violin so you can hear it better. I'll post the words in this here spoiler tag!  I'm not great at words... so be advised. :P
Oh how simple it is to be a child,
Care-free and wild.
How strange is the trust they show,
Even when your tactics are so low…

But in the end evil will win
And good will turn to sin.

You can run but can’t hide,
I’ll find your cry and deny
Your right to living

You can wait and create,
An army of millions
But it won’t stop me -- you’re too late.

You can just try to stop me!
The Napoleon of this century!
I will win, you will lose, can’t you understand this news?

How simple it is you child,
Care-free and wild.
Just give in, just give up, you will never win!

Good never wins.
So it begins,
My reign of sin!

Good stands alone,
Go ahead and bemoan
You will not dethrone!

I know my disciplines,
You can lose those grins,
Because good never wins!
EDIT: Sorry I was dumb and forgot how to do urls on the forum. Fixed.

EDIT2: Updated the audio in Through the Looking Glass because it was really old. haha

I only listened to the first one but I thought it was great.  The only bits I weren't too keen on was at the very beginning where it's relying entirely on the melody (Which I didn't think was particularly interesting) and just after 2 minutes where it sounds a little 'film music' like for a while.  Other than that, totally loved it.

Here's a new tune for Oboe and Piano -- that I'm going to have to play as well.  Shall be interesting.

An experiment in long drawn out chordal/dissonant harmonies with some experimentation in borrowed chords and chromatic harmony.  So, in basic terms, interesting chords. haha

Haha, thanks guys.  Now that I've finished all my theory classes I've been exposed to a lot more tools to use.  I'm still getting used to some of the techniques available, but practice is the best solution right?  I'll post some more stuff as I write it since I've got more time to dedicate to it.

So, I know this isn't something that will interest most of you, but I'd like to share something that I actually get paid to write.  This is my high school's marching band show so far.  Enjoy. :)

The theme is letters from World War II starting with Pearl Harbor, then a scene when they are sent to war, and then there is a silence because I started writing the ending a little bit when I still need to put some filler in.  The ending kinda is supposed to represent Hiroshima.

Here's something new.  Its instrumentation is Triangle, Harp, Violin, Cello, Acoustic Guitar, and Djembe.  Enjoy!

I recorded the audio as if it looped because I've considered trying to use it in RPG Maker.

Yeah I'm mostly looking for dungeon/town/other area themes. I refuse to use too many ripped songs from other games and just original stuff here. I will see what the great talented musical artists such as yourself and others here have to offer.

Because, this fall and next year I'll be self teaching me game coding and get to work on what I love.

Self teaching is really goddamn hard.
I highly recommend reading a ton of books on the subject.
Also, XNA is really easy to learn, and very powerful.
I highly recommend it.

I learned C# in a course I taken, but then I forgot almost all of it after half a year from lack of use practice. But I think I am more than capable of relearning it.

I do want to try XNA, but its expensive if you do not have access to MSDNAA to get it for free.

It's not expensive.
The SDK is completely free...the only thing that costs money is membership for Xbox Live publishing. Which isn't worth it, in my opinion. The Indie section is kind of a dead zone.
You can do PC stuff for completely free, though.

I recommend O'Reilly's "Programming C#" book, it's very thorough.

Probably not the place to talk about this, though!
's for AFL's music, not prog advice.

Its been a while so I guess I will share what I've been working on!  I started my composition lessons with the comp professor here this semester and my project was to write a Theme and Variations.  So I wrote one for Woodwind Quintet. (Flute-Piccolo, Oboe-English Horn, Bb Clarinet, French Horn, and Bassoon)
http://bando.posterous.com/theme-and-variations-for-woodwind-quintet (http://bando.posterous.com/theme-and-variations-for-woodwind-quintet)

I finished that and it was premiered this past week, so I started a solo for English horn but its now for alto saxophone.  So here is the other piece I've worked on this semester.  (Only about 3 weeks versus the almost 10 or so on the other piece)
