STORY:

The year is 2010, and the United States is at war with Middle Eastern terrorist groups.
For the most part the engagement had been a stalemate, each side gaining nor losing any territory.
That was until the terrorists decided to hit USA home soil once again, and this time end the war for good...
Using devastating biochemical warfare, every major city, military installment and agricultural site was hit.
Although structural damage was minimal, an airborne infection began to spread very quickly from the areas that were targeted...
The symptoms were like that of the flu, high fevers, coughing, vomiting, and the general weakening of the body.
It was also highly contagious. It wasn't long before the USA began to fall apart.
Hospitals were overran with sick patients, farmers livestock had all perished, which led the markets to fail.
And even the military bases were facing difficult problems containing the infection from spreading, even within its own ranks.
There seemed to be no answers, and no cure...

But the worst was yet to come...

It was roughly one week before those infected began to show enormous amounts of hostility towards family, friends, and strangers alike.
And just like that the United States of America was brought down from the inside, it's own residences murdering each other out of unexplained rage.
It's been five months since the infection...Those that weren't infected or killed within the following days of the attacks have held out and survived in the cities, towns and rural areas however they can...

Now follow the story of three survivors as they try to make their way out of Manhattan, and reach the safe zone on the outskirts of the city...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

SURVIVORS/CHARACTERS:

Ryan Shepard- Age: 26
A fresh N.Y.P.D officer, Ryan was sent to help with what was thought to be riots in the lower part of New York when the infection first broke out.
After the unprepared police force was overran, Ryan fled to the hospital to pickup his fiance, Michelle, a nurse working at the time.
Ever since then the two have been surviving together on the move, mainly staying alive through the quick thinking and strong will of Ryan.

Michelle Myers- Age: 24
A nurse at the Southgrove Medical Hospital. When the infection first began in New York the hospital was flooded with assault victims and people with severe symptoms of the flu. But when the hospital was locked down because of a bio-hazard threat, Michelle was stuck on the inside.
It wasn't long before the hospital was a bloodbath. Luckily for Michelle her fiance Ryan showed up just in time to get her out.
Every day Michelle thanks Ryan for being her guardian angel.

Adrian Kessler- Age: 31
Ryan and Michelle don't really know much about their Russian companion, other then he is a mechanic. He doesn't speak much, and when he does, it's important.

Thanks! I hope you'll like it.

And I'll get some more screenshots up when I take some good ones. :]

This has caught my attention quite a bit for some reason :)

Also, will 2k games work on Vista? Actual RPG Maker 2000 doesn't work, you see!

Great! I'm glad to hear that :D

Too be honest I'm not sure if the games will work if you run them on Vista, never tried. :P

Is the game not starting for you?

Ah yeah, I'm glad you noticed that.

And yes, I'm pretty sure it is for the RTP.

Guess I should add a link to the rtp, thanks!

I've recently added the SAVING option in a unique way in my opinion. So I felt I should post it up, as people have commented to add a saving option.

Here it is:
http://www.mediafire.com/?l5848g4kup4qbqp

You'll only be able to save once in the demo at the moment, since I plan on making it somewhat hard to find the items required to save.
Just to make the survival impact deeper!

I always find abusing saving dynamics just plain wrong. If I have to leave to do other stuff, and the game won't let me save, that's major incentive for me to not come back and play again when I can.

I'm not a huge fan of it either, but I would also like to stay true to survival games like Resident Evil. Where not being able to save constantly builds threat and for the player to be more cautious.
The way I have saving set up in this game isn't going to be horrible to do, you just need to basically find one item whenever you want to save. I wanted it this way because it goes along with having to search for food, ammo, etc. Because scavenging is key to this game.

Infection Update!

I've been working on music, mapping, story recently and I have fixed tons of bugs and typos.
Along with that I made a new download with a easier set up and the file size is also about 40MBs smaller!
So I felt I should post it up:

Have you tried downloading the harmony by itself and placing it in the game folder?
Not sure what you have tried, it's lame all the same.

It worked with the harmony in it this time. Good job, although I'll never be fond of the 2k's battle system.

Awesome, glad that worked. Good to keep in mind.

I actually like the simpleness of it, but besides that it falls short. The front view style was perfect for this game though mainly because I didn't want battler sprites for the characters. So the front view is sorta "first person shooter turn based" in this game.

But keep an eye open because in a year or so I'll hope to have completed/started a demo of a zombie shooter game in Rm2k3. Which I think would be vastly superior in so many ways compared to an rm2k game.

I've had a pretty outdate version available so I figured I would post up a very polished version that has had a lot of neat things added to it.
As well as tons of mapping errors fixed and some glitches here and there.

You make it sound like there are a billion other RM zombie survival games. As far as I know I've seen like one other. This genre isn't exactly spilling over with games.
Also, I don't think the maps are bad at all. I like them. And from all the feedback I've gotten it seems people like the maps and says it has fitting atmosphere.
So either play the game and like it/dislike it, or shut the **** up. :]

And so many more (and I'm not counting all the Resident Evil fan games). I would post more, but copy pasting links isn't all that fun it's made out to be.
Seriously zombies are the most overused plot elements ever. I can almost bet all the things that I own that anyone who been playing
around with rpg maker have either thought about it or started to make a zombie game.

Also, I don't think the maps are bad at all. I like them. And from all the feedback I've gotten it seems people like the maps and says it has fitting atmosphere.

Not so surprising. You are on a site full with tree hugging hippies who hearts are to big for their own good. God forbid that they would hurt anyone's feelings. You
should see all the crap they have praised on this site.

But the truth is that your maps, are empty, bland, lack life and doesn't set the mood of a town overrun by the undead.

So either play the game and like it/dislike it, or shut the **** up. :]

I've played it. And be happy, it's far from the worst this site has seen. But granted, it doesn't mean much here :]

rofl, there was no need to post all those links. I can google games too.
I've seen most of those games anyways, but didn't consider them because either they were an idea, incomplete, canceled, SILLY COMEDY, or wasn't full fledged dealing with just a zombie outbreak and surviving through one. Which is why I don't consider RE fangames, or some of the shooters/survive the night type games.
Most of those are also made with VX/XP which to me just look silly and kiddish. I just can't take it seriously.

And I haven't really gotten feedback from this site, which I didn't expect too much from.
Other game developers from other RM communites have said that the atmosphere fits quite well.
Also, all these RM communities have people who praise ****. So don't bash Charas.

I really have to strongly disagree with you on my maps being bland and lacking life.
For one, they are supposed to have big empty spaces. You are in a city, which guess what? Has big empty spaces.
Bland? It's a RM2k game with 2d graphics what are you expecting?
I don't see any difference between my game and like 99.9% of those games you posted. I guess they are all bland in your eyes too. If anything I think mine has more atmosphere than most of those games put together. (Besides like Fall of the Living, the only good looking one)
Lacking life? How do you mean?

Seriously, there isn't much more that can be done to portray a zombie apocalypse in a RM2k game.

EDIT: I don't want to come off like I can't take criticism, because I can.
And you're entitled to your opinion. I just don't digest semi-trollism well.

I say trolling because your first post was asking for me to get mad. And in your second post you're bashing this community at the same, which you have to expect people won't like.

As much as I hate to say it, ZE is kind of right with your mapping.
Huge maps with almost nothing in them are really, really, really boring to walk through.
Unfortunately for you, that's most of what I'm seeing.
Stick more eye-candy in, tighten the maps up a bit.

Otherwise, it looks rather okay.
Nothing TOO good, but it looks like a fun little timekiller.

That's all this game was really meant to be. Nothing really epic. Just a fun little timekiller.
I like zombies and decided to make a game about them so others who like the genre can have some fun.

About the mapping, it's supposed to be big and empty. I sound like a broken record.
The areas are meant to be expansive, lots of out of the way stuff, areas, survivors, etc.
I want the player to explore because you're searching for food and a way out of the city.
Basically I didn't want a set path like RE games where you HAVE TO go this certain way.

But I guess people are just lazy and don't want to walk out of the way.

The problem with the big expansiveness is that it's usually very boring, unless it's a 3D title with a lot of eyecandy.
Again, sprinkle more things around, even if they're simple things like blood splatters, corpses, or hell, trashcans.
Just throw something in to kill the monotony.

I understand that, I'll add more eye candy for sure.

But have you played the game? It's full of blood splatters, corpses AND trashcans, lots of those.
If I add anymore I would feel that it's cluttered.
I know cluttered can be good when going for a zombie apocalypse look, but I think it looks cluttered in a bad way.

I was basing most of my thoughts on the screenshots which you were showing.
Unfortunately, that's what people usually look at to base their entire opinions on a game; presentation is extremely important if you want people to play it.
And for that, I do apologize, but I still believe that there is a little to be learned there.

I'll give it a look once I do the whole "New computer RM2K" sequence and reinstall all of that crap.

No problem man, although I thought the screenshots I have here aren't exactly bare, expect like two. Which wouldn't hurt to have some bodies, blood, or cars, or something like that strewn about.

But thanks for your feedback, even if it was just an overview of what I have presented.
And I look forward to your feedback when you can play.

EDIT: I just added the Rm2k RTP to the front page. Thought that would make it easier for everyone.

Hey, Infected, if you unspoil your stuff, I may download your game.

EDIT: nevermind, I haxxor'd your thread and took a peak at your screenshots.

It doesn't look too bad, though the monsters look pretty bad, gotta say. And for some reason I was under the impression this was set up with a "shoo 'em up" style approach. Regardless, the maps don't seem to go too well with the charsets. It's a minor problem most people will look past though. I for one am not really bothered by it.

Sai does have an award for being Sai, he's probably saying that he needs to earn that.

Feel free to pick that sentence apart, though.
I know it are godawful.

Dom, if my memory doesn't fails me, Mr. Mr. lost his mod position for that (or did he?), and a while later he left Charas because nobody liked him.

And no, SaiKar meant his award. Look under the avatar.

Yeah...MrMister was years ago. He is banned today, and was de-staffed for reasons relating. There is our stance on it. I fail to see why that queswtion was asked.

Criticism is fine. Harsh criticism is even acceptable, if the person is giving an ample amount of constructive reference. Lord knows, almost all of the staff members have doled out some harsh critique at some point. I never saw ZE contribute anything that wasnt a homoerotic euphamism of some sort. Glow sticks...big guns...travelling the desert with a troupe of men dressed in matching outfits.

ZE didnt offer any constuctivity with his rants until after he was banned. Mister mister at least brought things to the table in a creative sense of the word. Not to mention, he was pretty articulate in his advice regarding what could have been done better. I clashed MM more then the next guy...In fact I was made staff to replace the vacancy that he left....but he was a contributing member

@ Zuhane- Thanks man for the support, it's well appreciated.

@ Drenrin- I personally like the zombie sprites alot, as well as there in battle char. I think they fit together well.  But every has their own opinion and thats what makes the world go round!
And do you mean charsets as in the survivors or zombies, or both? Because imho I thought the survivor chars fit well with the environment for the most part.
I used the taller sprite build in the generator and shrunk 'em abit to match the zombies height. They seem more "real" than most sprites.
And it worked out perfectly because I found faces they resemble the characters.
I think I might be one who looks past it though, cause everything fits together for me. I also look at it all for hours at a time.

@ fruckert- Ah, sorry I didn't realize it was frowned upon to post the RTPs since I found it on crankeye.

Yay my topic is a point of old timers discussing things!

The RTP and rm2k/3 are technically illegal since they were illegally translated but never officially released in English. So, to err on the safeside, most RPGM communities disallow links to them.

But u, I was referring to all the sprites, I think its the black line. But like I said, its not a big. Graphics are hard to come by.

The monster sprites atleast have originality going for them. I've never seen them before personally.

Ah, that makes total sense. We are a bunch of pirates, yaaar.

Indeed graphics are hard to come by sometimes, not a whole lotta different zombie ones out there too. That aren't just bloody looking people anyways.

And you're right! I haven't seen them used either, so that's a plus!

There wouldn't be this confusion over awards and rewards if Saikar knew how to use a God-damn pronoun.  "He needs to earn HIS award"?  "I need to earn the award he gave me"?  It's impossible to tell.

I have lots of chatlogs that prove lots of things.  Ones that prove the flat-earthers are right.  Ones that prove that Doom was a documentary.  Ones that prove that World War III actually did start yesterday and the ICBMs are just being hidden by really big TV screens.  Lots of things.

Now if only I could find them.

You're terrible at admitting defeat, but we all know it's true, so no worries.
