Title: Guilty Pleasures
Post by: A Forgotten Legend on July 21, 2011, 11:11:21 AM
My name is Joe, and I recently became addicted to Sailor Moon.

Anyone else have guilty pleasures that are a little odd?  Please, no "fantasies". Thank you.

I like getting ice and holding it really tight until it melts. The unbearable coldness feels kind of nice.

EDIT: I'm weird.

Sailor Moon? To be honest, my memory fails me - I remember watching that, but other than the image of some girls dressed in crazy clothes (like every other anime), I can't really remember anything about what it was about.

Probably demons and teenage issues with boys. Like all anime.

I suppose mine can be anything from coding stuff that I'll never use to creating characters in games such as Tekken, Soul calibur ect.

My guilty pleasure? See avatar. Though I don't feel all that guilty over it. Maybe I've gotten to the age where I just don't give a frick what people think of my hobbies.

As for Sailor Moon, I had a girlfriend in high school that was completely into it, and we'd watch episodes. It was repetative and formulaic. The underlying plot was ALMOST halfway decent, if only because it broke up the normal episode routine of character has problem > evil entity attempts to capitalize on problem > character comes to term with their problem > good guys win. But even the deviations to that almost entirely boiled down to "the power of friendship and love is greater than all other powers in the universe"... which I found out later is pretty much an anime standard, but was still unsatisfying to watch.

I'm not THAT picky, but it felt like I was watching the same episode 8 times, have a mid-season event, another 8, finale episodes. All the recycled animation from transformations and attacks was pretty lame too.

I admit it!

I love cute plushies. Had I the money, I'd probably have a few scattered around the house.

Like this cute little bat called Midnight that I bought:

I cannot resist, they are too cute!

And oh my God, I deed this one!

I used to be really into it, but a couple seasons ago I lost track and when I tried to get back it was all angels and hell and demons and taking over the world and all - just couldn't catch up. I should probably watch everything one day, but I still think that dealing with small cases like a single wendingo somewhere in the woods, or a ghost in some asylum is way more interesting than saving the world from the apocalypse. Kinda overused by now.

As for me, I don't know. Can't think of anything embarrassing that I like.

This is very true.

Get some fabric, a needle and some thread. Start sewing for great success. Most cases tons cheaper. Like the Bidoof I did earlier this year.

Oh wait... That's another guilty pleasure. I'm a freaking Demolition Man - I like to work with textiles.

I watch a LOT of anime, and I actually enjoy quite a few "bad" ones, like:

Speed Racer (Not that new crap, the 1960's anime which was violent as hell)
GoLion
Dairugger XV
Albegas
Saber Rider
Sailor Moon (Don't. ****ing. Judge me.)
Inuyasha
etc.

Problem is... I'm not good at this. Oh, sure, I have not actually tried. But I don't need to, I just know it. But then again, trying would actually make me get better at this. But I lack the patience. Maybe I could try this at some point... but I probably will just end up buying them. Might be less expansive, but if you compare the time it would take me to make something and the money I'd make with a job in the same amount of time... it's indirectly less expansive to buy them. Yes I calculate things strangely.

Though I must admit... I'd like to make my own custom cute plushy.

I also listen to musics which would raise a few questions regarding my true sexual orientation. As if the plushies were not enough.
Though this isn't exactly a "guilty pleasure" but anyway. Plushies, yeah.

I don't have anything for "plushies" in general, but get me some cool Pokémon plushies, and I'd love them.

And well, music... I love ABBA. I guess some people might find that a guilty pleasure that raises questions about your sexual orientation. But really, I don't mind. You have to be VERY sure of your manhood in order to look like this (http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-vKXSojgY8sQ/TY9lcNXCUrI/AAAAAAAAAyU/2SzvcRzZGac/s1600/Abba_01.jpg). Or maybe, you know, very gay. But still. I'm not even straight. Don't know why I should feel guilty.

Guilty pleasures? I've got a bunch of them...and some of them are really embarrassing.

If you must know, I get an urge to play Quest 64 every now and then. Yes, Quest 64...considered by some to be the worst RPG ever. And as an RPG, it is pretty bad...but the combat is kind of fun. And the ending of the game is so terrible that it's actually...hilarious, in a way. If it were a film, it would totally be MST3K-worthy.

I never really got into Sailor Moon, even though I've watched the first few seasons. Another guilty pleasure of mine is shoujo-ish anime, though. Wait, wait, hold the phone! Not all shoujo anime. Most of it is pretty crappy, especially nowadays. I do really, really enjoy Cardcaptor Sakura, though. Perhaps more than I should. I love little girls...they make me feel so good. Wait, what?

Anyway, I'll stop embarrassing myself for now... >.>

Musicals. Blame Actor Cousin who works with Alliance Theater/friend convinced me to see Phantom of the Opera/Glee. Between London and St. Louis I've seen Wicked (very cool), Memphis, Billy Elliot, Thriller Live, and Chicago.

-also A Very Potter Musical/Sequel is the best thing ever.

I Looooooove musicals.  Every summer I am in a teen workshop and we do some pretty awesome musicals.  (Godspell, 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, Drowsy Chaperone) Although, I had to play in the pit orchestra for the last one.  I also did some in High school.  Beauty in the Beast, Cinderella, Bye Bye Birdie, Fiddler on the Roof and the Pajama Game.  I've only see the tour for Wicked in Pittsburgh, and I saw a local theatre do the King and I.  I also saw a high school do Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Spelling Bee is a fun musical because it adds guest spellers in the mix from the audience. ;)

I've played it a few times, not a good RPG, but it got enough things right for me to at least enjoy it. I liked the monster designs and the combat system. Not many RPGs allow you to actually try and dodge spells with the analog stick in realtime. I think everyone else is just bandwagoning it without even trying it.

WOAH, hold on a sec. Jem had a boyfriend. Thus, Jem and the Holograms does not involve gay rock stars. Anyway, Jem had ridiculous PSA's, the Misfits were a prototype Team Rocket, and the songs are not the worst I've heard in a music-based show. Speaking of the songs in the show, the Misfits, who were Jem's band's rivals, had better songs than Jem.

I might be the only straight person in the area who both watches and enjoys High School Musical AND Totally Spies. Although I mainly only watch Totally Spies because of Sam. Because she's one of the few smart girls in the series (the other being Britney, but she doesn't nearly have as much screentime as Sam, plus, Sam's a redhead, that's a huge plus).

But yeah, High School Musical. Especially the third one. I don't think I'll ever go see the planned fourth movie nor will I watch the Sharpay spin-off.

Oh, and I'm a Take That fan, but that's not really a guilty pleasure, as there are probably more male straights who like their music (especially after their reunion).

Oh yeah, and I love to draw glasses over photos and images with females in them. More specifically, I love to give female characters glasses (http://mocktendo.multiverseworks.com/index.php?list=cgf). You know, because I just love girls with glasses.

Yeah, I'll go and stand on the other end of the Internet now.

(By the way, I can sort of sometimes tell when glasses aren't real, and those seem pretty fake. Fake glasses aren't a turn-on trigger, but they do prove my point when I say that women look better with glasses. Not to say they don't look good without, it's just, they look better. I'll shut up now.)

Speaking of weird (well, not weird, just... different) taste in women, I like strong chicks.

Not the kind of strong chick that is uglier than a man (http://www.creatinejournal.com/women-body-builders/Dayana.jpg), just fit girls with well defined muscles.

My glasses fetish has nothing to do with drawing glasses on female characters.

Okay, it has everything to do with it, but the point is, it was still about my guilty pleasures.

On a side-note, I also used to enjoy Gilmore Girls, until it ended.

And yes, I still only fall for women, and I mostly watched it because of Alexis Bledel.

As Cerebus and Warxe (I think he was on chat when I mentioned this) can attest to, I have a slight thing for men with glasses to counter Gary's fetish for women with glasses, but it depends on the person. Some people look better with them and some people look better without them. To be honest, I think my preferences change from time to time. I'm so fickle. :P

Also, I have Bad Romance and Tik Tok on my iPod too. I love Bad Romance, but Tik Tok gets very annoying after a while...

Speaking of bad music, I have Caramelldansen and a rock remix of "I Kissed a Girl" by Katy Perry on my iPod. I don't think it gets much guiltier than that. >.>

I love playing old/mediocre FPSes. Old ones tend to either be classics or poorly aged titles, and mediocre ones are just "meh", and yet, I get a real kick out of them.

I should make some LP videos on YouTube or something.

I honestly don't know how I would feel about Sai 34. I mean, she's an original character, to us. She's ours. More so Sai's, but less so ours.
DON'T SEEM RIGHT.

Yeah, that dirty dirty girl belongs to us. To do what we say. She's ours...

Wait, what? My mind drifted a little there.

Back on the subject of guilty pleasures, I loooove cup ramen. I like any type of ramen, really, but I could eat (and have eaten) it for weeks on end and never get tired of it. Not even a bit!

Also, in addition to guys with glasses (which I mentioned earlier), I also like guys without much muscle on them. I don't know what it is, but I find muscles to be incredibly ugly. I don't just mean guys whose biceps are bigger than their heads. I mean...I even think six packs can be hideous. >.>

So yes, I like effeminate men. You can take what you like from that statement about my sexual orientation.

You could also take from that that you think Cerb looks like a girl.
:V

Love you Cerb, don't hate me.

I think he meant drugs.

Unless he's snorting toddlers, then that's just wrong.

I like to colect movies when I can. Then again that's the only way I can watch any new sci-fi TV shows. <.< Darn attena. Recently got into Doctor Who and re-purchasd Farscape.

I thought I contributed, guess not.

Along a shelf in my room is a collection of VHS tapes. Yeah, those things. I still prefer to record television on those rather than my DVD recorder. On them are some really old recordings of holiday specials. I want to play them again in a few years and reminisce about the content on them. The old commercials and old channel bumpers. See if any of those "hit new shows" are still around. Most likely not. In case you don't get the picture, I nerdgasm over old technology. Mostly old video games. The day I picked up a Commodore 128 with two entire 'moving' boxes full of games, and another with nearly all of the accessories, all for 20 bucks, was the greatest day of my life. Sad, I know. That, or getting the complete SMB3 and Dragon Warrior with boxes, manuals, inserts, and plastic wrappings for 20$ as well.

Not sure if this counts, because I don't feel guilty at all about it, but I love old and mediocre games. Why clump the two together? Because old games don't always age well, and mediocre modern games tend to be less than stellar because they share too many aged qualities. It's not a nostalgia thing, it's a little more like a B-movie thing. So bad it's good? Sometimes, I just want to get away from every game being a multi-million dollar blockbuster monster title and just play some stupid budget game.

I'm particularly fond of shooters that fall into this area.

Yeah. Funny you ask that. I almost wasn't. ^^; I got exposed to Rabies and have been taking a series of shots. But yeah for now I'm alive. I just...felt like posting. *Shrugs* Was thinking of making a grand come back , but then I realized I've done that allot recently so I'd just shut up and start dropping by to liven your lives up a little.

I need to watch more. ****ing Blood Diner was the most recent one I've seen, and it left me hungry for more...

I think YouTube clips are appropriate.

I spent about $25 on a Burn Up Excess boxed set. It's an anime about a bunch of female cops and their boobs. I stand by my choice: the two episodes with Chii-Mama (a male transvestite in a kimono with five-o'-clock shadow) are hilarious.

Oh, and I totally dig me some Arina Tanemura. She makes Sailor Moon look butch.

Also, I loves me some Hollaback Girl.

...That said, I don't feel guilty about any of that...
