Title: Battlecharsets
Post by: genxer2099 on November 10, 2012, 05:06:44 AM
I have been working on a game but i do not really care for the battle characters that RM2k3 comes with. is there any way to use other images for the battle sets. I have a few new character sets for the map but they will not transfer to the battles for some reason

Charsets and battlecharsets use a different format. As in the size and overall layout of the picture. Therefore a charset cannot be used as a battlechar.
A battlecharset is organized from top to bottom with 3 frames on each "row" that creates an animation.
A charset on the other hand is 8 different entities, or characters, that each consists of 4 rows of 3 frames that corresponds to a direction in the maker.

There are a lot of battlechars, and you can make your own if you want to. Just make sure that you use a battlechar template.

Either you just create a paint file with the dimensions 144x384, or you search the complete resources and find something like this:

That's a clean template, there are some with nudes in it that you just have to pimp up-

Another method you can use is to drop BattleChars entirely and instead use Battle Animations for each pose.

The advantage of this method are many, such as having different character attack animations for each weapon use, a much greater maximum size for frames (96x96 to 128x128) and having 25 different frames for each animation instead of 3.

But this is admitely the harder method and demand you find a way to keep track of which Battle Animations are for each character and what not. But I prefer this method myself.

If you absolutely need a template, I believe the site has one (main site, not the board). Else, many (including myself) can make one. What level of complexity are you looking for?
