Title: how do I share my game I made in rpgmkr2003?

IIRC, does the other person have to download the Rpgmaker2003 as well?

Depends on how you send it to him/her.

If you just send the project - the maker will be needed since it lacks pretty much everything, including the RTP.

If you create a gamedisk (the choice in the maker with all the ??????? jibberish) you compile all the necessary files into a setup file. This can be sent to him/her who can use it to unpack all the necessary files and stuff.

But the most convenient thing to do is that you run that setup file yourself and then compile the created folder into a ZIP or RAR and send that to him. When he unpacks it - it will be a folder with the game, all the necessary files (but also all the RTP, even the ones not used)

How would you share it with someone on the internet?

you have to go to this site http://www.mediafire.com (http://www.mediafire.com) or any site like it

Box.com is also a useful website, you create an account and simply upload your files to you account, people can go to your account and download your files. Pretty nifty.

Just remember to compress the file into a RAR or ZIP file or something.

So which would be the better site to upload and share a Rpg maker 2003 game?

I would avoid sites like mediafire and MegaUpload simply because they don't give you a direct link (the user has to navigate through their site to download the game), they are full of ads, they are pretty slow, and they remove your files rather quickly if there isn't much traffic. Personally I like dropbox.com because you can get a direct link to your file. You can place a file in your public folder and share it with anyone, plus dropbox is a pretty nifty tool to use for other things as well. I believe dropbox is very similar to the site prpl mentioned, box.com.

Here is a text file in my public dropbox folder (ironically it's instructions on how to share public files): https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/81133621/How%20to%20use%20the%20Public%20folder.txt

Steps to share your game:
- Create a gamedisk with the RTP included.
- Zip up the file into a .zip file (rar, 7z, and tar.gz will also work, but .zip is by far the most common format).
- Upload the zip file to your public dropbox folder
- Right click on your uploaded file in dropbox, select "Copy public link", and you're done!

How do you create a gamedisk with the Rtp included? Is Rtp the files that are needed like the sprites you import into the game?

The RTP is all the stuff that's in the maker when you gets it, like charsets, battlechars, facesets, animations, bgm, sound effects etc. So if you're using any of that default stuff, you better include it or the person playing it will get a "resource missing: hero1" for example.

When you create a gamedisk I think there's like a box you can click in one of the corners, mine only says "???????????????????????" all over the place but I think that's it. Either way, you choose your directory and a folder is created. Open up the resource folders of this folder (for example: monsters), if all the RTP stuff is there: success!
If not: crap.

A piece of advice is to kinda cleanse the folders of all the rtp you're NOT using to cut down the size. Especially the music deparment.

I made a new folder on my desktop. I created a new Gamedisk in rpg maker 2003 and included "run time package". Now I have some files
called Setup in the folder.

Oh right, then run the setup and you create yet another folder, this one holds all the resources and the exe file.

The folder created with your setup is the one you want to send to people. Getting a wierd looking install-looking thing scares people off.

Okay, I have it up for download, but when I download it myself the images aren't working. For example, the transparent backgrounds
are not transparent when I imported them and had made them transparent...

Does that mean people will need Rpg Maker to run my game?

Edit:So basically I just create a game disk, make sure it has the RTP and make it into a zip or rar file?

Edit: I am also planning on using Mediafire, as I don't want to make more accounts just to share a game I made. I already made 2 accounts for 2 different sites just to share the games I make.

If you create a gamedisc and then use the odd wierded out instal thing, it will unpack the "game" with all the RTP + all the stuff you imported + an EXE file to start it + all the other necessary crap to run it without anything installed.

The folder created with your setup is the one you want to send to people. Getting a wierd looking install-looking thing scares people off.
