Title: You know there has bee this idea for a game floating in my head for over a year,
Post by: Grandy on July 23, 2013, 01:28:51 PM
but I don't think I will ever create it, because hard work is hard.

Still, it is one of those ideas that keeps popping back up in my mind, and I spent quite a lot of time revising it and adding extra stuff, and well, I am not thinking straight because I spent a whole night without sleeping (just bought Brutal Legend and kind of beat it in one sitting), and am feeling quite as if I ws drunk, because that is what sleep deprivation does to me, and as such I feel like writing down this idea so people can laugh at it.

Anyway, it was basicaly Discworld meets Persona. Like, a game with Discworld characters, but gameplay and history progression like Persona 3 and 4.

Most of below is actually copy-pasta from a topic I did on GameFAQ's Persona 4 board long ago.

MC just arrived at Ankh-Morpork as a new recruit for the City Watch, soon after, mysterious murders happen but are dismissed because, well, it's Ankh-Morpork.
Captain Carrot finds evidence of magic being involved in the crimes, and proptly makes a squad to go to the Unseen University to interrogate a few wizards, no success, but you get a glimpse of the ever-changing infinite maze that is the Unseen Library. The librarian tries to warn you about something, but since he's an orangutan you can't figure it out.
At that night, Igor visits MC in your dreams, classic contract signing and etc.
Another murder, this time Carrot wonders if a mage who was missing could've run into the library, it is after all a perfect hiding place. As they go in, the Librarian being their guide, a monster comes out of a portal in a wall, Ridicully, Archchanceler of the university, recognizes it as one of those monsters that live in the Dungeon Dimensions, who cling to our world when there's too much magic in the air. Carrot remarks of how it's dark as a shadow, the name catches. Ridicully launches a fireball but does nothing, and Carrot's sword just phases through it, then MC's Persona awakens; Om, the Small God. You defeat it, helped by the librarian who acts as a helper (saying "Ook" at everything, but the text translates due the fact you have Om) Ridicully is interested on your power, and the librarian looks surprised, runs off to try and find a book about it. There's also evidence that someone has really been hiding inside the library.
From them on, a pattern forms of one murder each month, at the first day to which Carrot assumes the killer must be some kind of psychopath, Carrot decides to make expeditions inside the library to ctach the perp, but at the first day of each month you have to go to the streets of Ankh and try to find where the murderer will attack, and stop him. At the second expedition, Carrot awakens to his Persona by being possessed by a Shadow, once you defeat him, the shadows merges with him and becomes Ogun, the God of Iron. Other main characters also awaken later on but I won't write every single one in detail.
Later it's found out the killer is killing people as sacrifices in specific spots of the town, making a rune shape, to which Ridicully claims proves he's a mage, because it's easy to do spells without all that stuff, but mages can't help but do them for the sake of being cool.

Other stuff:

Completing the playable character's social links would give them personas 'unique' from pratchett's books;

Okay firstly I love the idea, secondly I just started reading Disc World this year, after watching all the min series that are available in the U.S. and wanting more, so I'd be down with Disc World game. Heck I'd even help you...if I was further along
in the series. ^_^; Though I must say adding a Persona twist would not have been something I ever considered o.O Would that also mean you'd have dating sim or interaction system?

Probably, yeah. Though since most of the women in the books have canon relationships, the number of romance social links would be awfully limited.

XD Possibly for the best by me. I worked forever to get Yukari to notice me, but at the same time I had relationship with a NPC  and it went pretty nice till suddenly one day Yuakri was all
teary and what not and said we were soul mates...>_- Bad thing was I just wanted to be friends at that point but in order to get "Love" Arcana I HAD to interact with her and I couldn't find a way to just be friends with her
hardly. XD So I forsee a break up in my future when I get back to playing that stupid game.

In Persona 4, you can woo all the women at once and they don't care. I'm not sure if it's the same with P3.

The God of Evolution does have a name, but as soon as you get used to it he changes it.

That does sound like something PTerry would come up with.
