Title: Bravely Default
Post by: Prpl_Mage on November 25, 2013, 08:21:53 PM
It's kind of a Final fantasy but they decided not to make it a final fantasy. It's on the 3DS and I just finished the demo.

My hopes are pretty high to be honest, feels a bit like the ole' final fantasy games like FF3 with jobs and items shops that sells spells.

From what i gathered, EU will actually get this before NA seeing how it is released next week.

Any thought from you 3ds users out there?

I'm a 3DS user. It looks FF9ish. I'd like to get it if it's good; is it very kiddy though? It looks a little.

It looks pretty good from the trailers I've seen.  I may end up downloading it.  I personally think they should make some games that look like FF7-9.  I mean c'mon, they can totally put those types of solid RPGs easily on the 3ds.

tired of turn based combat.

Wheres my Disgaea game.
Wheres my Crystal Chronicles sequel.
Wheres my Final Fantasy Tactics 3ds.

Bravery Default is just, not something I'll pick up. I'm actually rather bored of turn based/menu based combat.
for a 3ds. I haven't had any good games that I enjoyed on this system since Kid Icarus: Uprising and Kingdom Hearts 3Ds.

Being from the U.S., I'm saddened I'll have to wait for this title, but I can be patient.  I actually ordered to collector's edition from eBay, but thanks to the region lock I can't even play it for some time.  Since it's announcement I've actually been pestering my local GameStop almost every visit as to whether or not they have it in their system, so I was giddy when they finally announced a February release.

The 3DS is easily one of the best devices to come out in recent times, and titles like these just further support this claim.  Not to derail the conversation, but I'm also curious about Persona Q.  It is nice to see some solid RPGs appearing on this system.  Pokemon and SMT IV are great, but there's no such thing as too many RPGs.  (Actually that's a lie.  My backlog of PS2 RPGs would suggest otherwise.)

The style is a bit like FF9 but the battles are not. FF9 is dreadly slow, the battls can be sped up to 400% in this one, much like in FE awakening. It's not too much kiddy but it's the typical kinda cheesy old school dialogue that one could expect from a game tht's looking back.

Also, By beating some bosses in the demo you unlock some basic items that can be transferred to the real game once you get it. So it might be worth getting but it's not like it's essential or unique.

I've had some great use with my 3ds so far, super pokemon rumble, heroes of ruin, ocarina of time, snake eater, dream drop distance, resident evil revelations, monster hunter, fire emblem, pokemon, tales of the abyss and paper mario sticker star.
Another handheld crystal chronicles would be nice, I really liked echoes of time.

It should have come out already.  I ordered the Limited Edition off of GAME.co.uk and they said it would be the 22nd as well.  Incidentally, 16 hours playing blind, I beat the game with 20 hearts, max items, and found all the maiamai.  I only had to look up the location of one heart piece.  That freaking baseball minigame, I should have known.

Are you Chris?

I didn't know you could get high scores in the Rupee Rush mini game.  So i had to look those two up sadly...  Otherwise blind.

Yeah, I'm Chris.  I snagged them on my first try because the Maiamai was in there (both worlds) and figured I may as well play the game while I was in it.

I also was not aware that highscores were shared... this is almost like having to share a Solitaire score.

Not playing the new zelda yet, will probably just hope that someone gives it to me for Christmas. I'm kinda looking forward to an honest to god RPG again, it's been kinda long since anyone released one.

Well the new zelda is very good imo. Definitely makes to to the top 5 of 17.  Only problem is its a lil short, but it actually gives you a challenge, especially hero mode.

Speaking of 3ds games, did anyone get Code of Princess? Looks like one of those games made by those people who made that one thing I can't remember the name of. It was never released in cartridge here in EU only download, I can kinda get why based on what the heroine looks like though. Still, it looked like a decent beat 'em up, that apparently can be played online.

Edit: also, do anyone know how to transfer save/game data from one SD card to another? Code of princess is apparently 9k blocks which is like all the space I have left on my SD card (it's the one I got with the 3ds), so I was thinking about getting another one. Do you need a special sort of SD card or is it anything goes?

I'd go on Nintendo's site.  I also used my laptop to store data because i had tons of space when i did a system transfer from 3ds to my 3ds xl.

So Bravely default is now released and I got it. Must say that I personally liked the start of the demo better seeing how you start of with like 8 jobs to change between. Still game is good and all just two things that perplexes me:

1. You can upgrade and build shops/stuff to supply your merchants with some cooler items. This is takes actual hours to complete. Here's the thing, if something takes 2 hours to build and you set 1 person to do the job = it will take 2 hours, set 2 people on the job = it takes 1 hour, etc. Problem is that you start with 1 villager and get an additional one for every streetpass or friend that owns bravely default. So this is kind of a problem especially when my dear Americans won't get the game until February. Not looking forward putting my 3ds in sleepmode for 50 hours to complete a weapon shop.

2. You have something called Sp that you can use to stop time at any moment during battle to make another turn. This is restored by 1 each 8 hours and I'm pretty sure 8 is max. This is surprisingly okay seeing how you'll leave the 3ds on during nights and stuff to upgrade buildings. However, you COULD buy Sp potions for real money from the nintendo store... What? This is something you see in like tons of korean MMOs not really something I expect from either Nintendo or Square.

Streetpass? Real money microtransactions? So much for old school RPG.

Apparently relatedely to this thread though, Link Between Worlds was frickin great. Best Zelda I've played in a long time.

Tales of Vesperia/Graces f/Xilia have micro-transactions for cash, classes, etc. Then again, I don't think they'd classify as "retro RPG".
Street Pass seems to be something they really want to be present in their new games. Which kinda bothers me since even when I go out shopping or work with my 3DS on sleep mode on me, I don't get much Street Passes.

As for the Zelda game... I don't mind if it's short. But please, tell me there is more than only 4 dungeons.

Okay, you can get more than 1 SP, so just keep it on in sleepmode and you'll cash in.

And you don't have to use streetpass, you can add people through the internet. Thankfully, since I also have the problem with people not having streetpass activated for the games I want streetpass for. I keep getting people for the mii plaza thing but that's about it. Also mario kart.

Yes there more than 4 dungeons lol.  An intro dungeon, 3 Hyrule dungeons, 6 Lorule dungeons and the final dungeon.  So I'd say approximately 10-12 dungeons.

I'm okay with Streetpass stuff if its all optional, gimmicky stuff, but when I feel its actually impeding progress I get my pitchfork. The last thing I want to do is carry around a bulky 3DS while fighting the hoards at Walmart to get some groceries.

As for Zelda dungeons, there's, like, 12, or something. It's crazy. And they're thinking-man's dungeons, some of the toughest I've seen a while, yet I'd still call them all fair.
Link Between Worlds may only take 15-20 hours to beat, but they're GOOD hours. Next to no grinding or endless boring cutscenes. The fat has been trimmed completely and what's left is made of pure gold.

I personally enjoyed the lil scenes in skyward sword.  Gave link some personality and made him seem badass at the end of the game.

Just a note, you can add random people through the internet as well. It just requires that other people are looking for people as well.

So my village population is now 4, everything takes 4times faster to build than before. Yay me! And they infested my town with some slimy monsters to beat for great exp and stuff

Blah, this kinda crap on the DS really pissed me off, and it wasn't even that bad. So it's worse on the 3ds? Granted, obviously, dependent on the game and developer.
