It seems many people like to talk about their own dreams, but few have interest in hearing about other's dreams. None the less it is an interesting topic, and so I would like to ask the following questions.
1. Do you dream in color or in black and white?
2. Do you often have nightmares or are your dreams usually pleasant? Or are they usually something else?
3. Do you notice any sort of theme to your dreams?
Discuss.
My answers would be:
1. I've never had a dream in black and white, but I've heard several TV shows and movies talk about dreaming in black an white, so I assume some people do, but I don't really know for sure.
2. Maybe once every 6 months I will have a nightmare, but it has to be very close to reality for me to actually perceive it as real, and that doesn't happen much. For example, I've had dreams where the Earth was invaded by aliens, but since it was so far fetched, I perceived them more along the lines of a movie or video game, and even though terrible **** was happening, it was actually a fun experience fighting against the aliens.
3. The one theme I've noticed in my dreams is the location and how messed up it is. I've lived in three unique areas in my life, my hometown, Madison Wisconsin, and San Francisco California. Every time I dream of one of the locations, it's nothing like it actually is, yet at the same time, these odd interpretations of these areas remain the same in every dream I have about the area.

I've never had a black-and-white dream either. Seems like an odd thing to me. My dreams tend to have a theme of adventure with "friends" (not necessarily people I know for real, but people I know and trust in the dream), such as working with a team to rob a bank or acting as part of a group of explorers in ancient ruins. If the adventure theme isn't present, it's a frustrating dream about a never-ending sequence in a video game (usually something I may have been playing before going to bed). Something like an active game of Tetris or something. It's very mentally taxing, especially since it all seems to function well within the rules of the game (meaning I memorize piece locations and make intelligent plays while dreaming). I hate it both because it's exhausting and because it won't stop. It's the closest to what I would call a lucid dream, but that's a stretch since they usually happen when I'm half-conscious already.
Nightmares are rare. Most of them happened when I was a kid, but one happened a few years ago that stuck with me. I was at my house with my family, and there was a large party of some sort in the backyard. We had a pool (which we've never had) and lots of guests (some of them being deceased relatives or complete strangers), and my mom and grandmother (mom's side) were in the house with me. Everyone seemed to be having a good time in the pool out back, but then it started raining, with mild thunder in the distance. I thought to myself something like "they'll all be coming in shortly", but then a blinding flash and an ear-shattering crash flood my senses (an intense lightning strike outside), and all I see out the window in a deep red, somewhat chunky rain. I rush outside in a panic and see an instant stew of boiled down meat and bones in blood floating in the pool. I was sickened and completely in shock. I ran back inside and tried (hysterically) to explain what happened to my mom and grandma, urging them in a panic to call an ambulance or something, and they simply responded with a rather calm "oh my", as though something much less severe had happened. I bolted upright, awake in my bed, covered in sweat.
That was a pretty awful nightmare. It left me in a terrible state of mind for a day or two.

I rarely dream, but then again I sleep like 5-6 hours a night. But whenever I end up sleeping for 10 hours or so **** happens.
Dreams usually involves the following:
Games I play, people I know, things that make no sense.
For example I ended up in space for the world cup as an umpire together with a buddy of mine and lived in a satellite. But for some reason he brought his dog so we had to leave the satellite to walk it since the satellite-apartment building had a rule against walking dogs indoor. Then all of a sudden it turned out that his childhood home was just down the street (what's down the street in space anyway?) so we went there but then everything started to flood. Unsurprisingly I ended up controlling an army of heroes of might and magic units to fight back the flood.
Stuff like that.

I dream every night. Always in color as far as I can tell. I usually have nightmares about 2-3 times a month, at this point though I am pretty desensitized to them.
I have so many re-occurring dreams/themes that'd take all day to name them off. I have a particular one that I'm fond of though, where I'm slowly starting realize that I have 'super' powers. This usually includes some form of flying akin to a 'moon-jump' in videogames (Stuff you could unlock by using game genies/gamesharks usually.). This makes the dream more like a lucid dream in the sense that I can manipulate most things in it, however I often realize that I'm having to much control in my dream, and that if my conscious kicks in to start controlling it, I'll wake up. (It's strange I know.)
I had a very bizarre dream two nights ago actually: I was magically transformed into a kid again, but I maintained my adult intellect. Seeing that I was a kid, the government put me into elementary school (This is in Japan by the way.). The teachers could understand that I was miles ahead of the other students, so they didn't really force me to do anything in class, so I kinda just did my own thing. There was another kid in the school who was also considered 'different' it was a girl who was supposedly possessed by demons. One day during class, I was sneaking around the hallways by laying on my back and using my legs to scoot myself around, and hide behind things. Suddenly the 'possessed girl' scooted up to me in the same fashion and told me that I was "fun". She got really close to me, and acted like she was going to kiss me, but then she bit my face instead. I wasn't particularly upset, and she laughed. I thought it might be a good idea to explain to her, since she's supposedly involved in evil magical ****, what had happened to me (being transformed into a kid.), I asked her "Do you believe in magic?", where she responded: "I don't believe in the Bible." The I woke up.
Strange message if there was any.

I dream in color, usually from a 3rd person perspective. MY dreams almost if always feature some sort of HUD. Like an actual meter, buttons, health ect. Something of the sorts. Sometimes I have car speedometers and other strange oddities. I have actual pop-ups. Like "press A.". For one instance. In my dream I was being chased by a knife wielding baby, and at first I was running the usual slow "nightmare" pace, until a display saying Press A to run and I envisioned myself pressing the button and managed to run away and climb up a wall the baby couldn't. It was strange, and it sounds strange explaining it too. Sometimes my dreams are entirely video games. Just, I "myself" the dreamer am sitting in front of a TV holding a controller and playing the game. Sometimes it jumps to me looking at the screen, or sometimes it's me in the game. I feel like I'm playing a game, objectives all that. Even when I know I'm dreaming my brain has the sense of urgency that I have to get something done. Very strange semi-lucid like dreams I have. I dunno, I love it. I love having control of myself as if I was an "avatar" but I have no control over my environment/location as in true lucid dreaming. I have to abide by whatever laws or limitations my brain has created for that dream. But yea, that's my dreams for you.

I'm kinda in the same lucid boat as Felix, as in I have control over myself or the main characters of the dream, but have no control over the environment or plot twists. My dreams tend to be stress related, and take elements of whatever I've been doing lately and mash them into one melting pot dream.
Example:
A couple years ago I got Cat Scratch Fever from a stray cat we had been keeping for a few days. I'm also allergic to cats, but this was before I actually knew for sure. While I was sick, I passed out on our couch in my apartment. Lately I had been watching a lot of pokemon movies and also struggling with my sexuality. So, naturally, my dream was set in the town on the pokemon movie with Zoroark, with a large legendary bird pokemon I didn't recognize terrorizing the town. Later in another version of the dream, my apartment was somehow in this town next to a bridge where I had just kissed one of my good friends. (First gay kiss scene in a dream for me - that freaked me out at the time). After it moved to a scene in the apartment where a friend was known for yelling at everyone was, well, yelling at my friend and then the wall blew out and the bird pokemon from the earlier version of the dream was there ready to blast us with some kind of beam (can't remember what it was, two years ago ya know?). After that it quickly moved to a new shot where I watched the creature destroy an entire street.
Luckily I got better before my dream could happen again, and it hasn't come back since. Mostly likely because the specific stress factors involved aren't an issue anymore. Also my dreams tend to come in different parts, and sometimes the parts are spread randomly over a few months (or years in one case). Usually only three actual parts most. My most recent dream involved a world where Pocahantas and Kocoum actually did end up together, but then ended up in 21st century Pennsylvania...
Actually here's the full dream, because its a dousey. And spoiler so my post isn't an eternity.
[spoiler] The dream begins with Pocahantas and Kocoum getting together and actually falling in love after Kocoum kills John Smith. So they live happily for a bit and then they both die out of nowhere. Kocoum ends up in a weird purgatory, but Pocahantas wakes and finds herself in a room with about 5 men in their early 20's. Here, they tell her that they can never leave. So time goes by a little bit and then Pocahantas realizes shes pregnant and so she leaves her prison -- but not without problems. The men turned into vampire creatures to tried to keep her from leaving. At this point I appear in the dream as if I've been in that room the whole time. Freaking out because all my apparent friends had turning into vampires, I create a diversion with a dead animal for Pocahantas to escape and then block the door. The vampires threaten to kill me so I stall and eventually give up. Pocahantas at this point had managed to leave the room, which had somehow moved from a street corner to the roof of a very tall building in a city. She manages to get back to her village to give birth to a son -- who was actually the son of the devil because apparently Pocahantas went to hell and satan knocked her up and sent her back to earth. Or something. So she struggles with her demon baby until finally it moves to 18 years later or something and he's almost an adult. The devil now is trying to find his son and before the devil can get to him, the elder of the village looks into the light half of the son and convinces him to be fully good, erasing the evil parts from his body.
The dream then moves to a large religious statue building thing where Pocahantas, her son and three random people are on vacation I guess. The building starts to crumble as this family of four randomly becomes super villains. Thats the last part of the dream that I've had. This was just this past two weeks. Its had two parts, so I'm waiting to see the conclusion here.[/spoiler]

I've always been jealous of people who can lucid dream. I've attempted all the methods in achieving lucid dreams and only come close once when I think I was experiencing sleep paralysis. It was as terrifying as it sounds: very real, shadowy, figureless "things" crawling everywhere and me unable to move in my room where I had fallen asleep.
On another note, any one ever try Wake Induced Lucid Dreaming? I've had some interesting experiences with this.

Sounds like my dreams, actually. I've been reluctant to call them "lucid", since I find myself unable to tell whether or not I'm actually in control, but I'm aware that I'm dreaming. I'm a light sleeper, and I find myself awakened several times before I actually get up for the day, so it's very possible that this describes how my dreams work out. It's not unusual for me to force a dream into existence (usually attempting to continue a dream that I was enjoying, sometimes from the night before), so this likely helps with that.

So I'm in this huge mansion, like batman mansion. Or a castle or something. And my friends are over for a game night. But there aren't any stairs or such. So I need to place ladders wherever we go so that people can climb to the upper floors. Among the people there are two con-women as well, they are doing some shifty things to steal stuff from people. Like walking into people's rooms and stealing their wallets. Then it's the start of a new turn so we divide ourselves into teams to explore the castle, two of my friends insists on going into the basement for something. Me and another friend ends up looking for the kitchen. We find the kitchen but also the con women and notice their treasure pile. Luckily we have SWAT on speed dial and they appear within 4 seconds. The younger con women just keep saying "follow my lead mum" to the other one and they do things like fake crying, fake sneezing, fake fainting to avoid getting captured. In the end my friend manage to convince the SWAT to take them away after he shows them that they've been stealing their grenades during their little charade. So the con women are escorted out of the mansion/castle thing and it causes a huge commotion with the press who somehow made it into the mansion. While the SWAT deals with that we keep searching their room of stolen goods.
For some reason I start stacking a box with books that are apparently mine, but at the same time it's like "hmm, this sounds like I good read, I should take it as well". So me and my friend takes the box of books and head for an elevator, but as we wait for it to show up I notice my harddrive among the stolen goods and remember that the SWAT may take everything as evidence, and that I have a bunch of illegal music / movies / games on it. So I have to erase all that when the SWAT officers aren't looking. After a few metal gearish fails I simply throw some sort of bomb to create a fire. Burning the hardrive and the surrounding books. We quickly get into the elevator to get out, but for some reason it's one of those things you have in mines and stuff, like. Made out of bars, fence and stuff. Eitherway, I'm standing on the outside feeling the rush of wind striking against me as we're going down. Then I realize that this is super dangerous, since the moment the path down becomes just so small that it can hold the elevator - I'm gonna be squished. But as we reach the bottom of the... rope? It lurches to the side onto the central station train station. And there's a bunch of people there waiting to board some trains. And then the elevator is a train that's now wobbling madly sideways to get across the platform and onto the track. But before it lands on the track it starts up again. And it's no longer a train but just some sort of girder used in construction. And I'm no longer standing on the outside of an elevator. I'm hanging onto a girder being moved by a crane up and up and up, across open populated areas. So I can see all the people at the central station, and then this girder takes me high across this construction site, that is the mansion. They are now building stairs and stuff. So we travel to the highest point of the room and I just hope that I didn't aggro any of the constructions workers we passed. The end of our destination is reached and the girder is dropped with me. All of a sudden me friend is there again and the box of books. We move to get down when a construction worker walks up to us and asks what we think we are doing, and where is his girder? He needs it to finish his job. We point in the general direction of it and he runs of. And we notice how all the ladders I placed are gone. So I ask on of them about it. And he says that they need to build stairs. 'cuz if people fall of ladders then the owner can get sued.
We meet up with my friends again and we notice that one of us is missing. We don't know how it happened or where he went. So we start searching. But two people refuse to, they are going to avenge their fathers by entering the dungeon under the mansion and defeating the orc king. So we go around the mansion, looking for people to ask about our friend, also, avoiding construction workers and SWAT people who are patrolling the area. We eventually finds the guy, turns out he got us a car. For what I don't know. But I head down into the dungeon to tell the others that we found him.
The dungeon is made of out an old crystal cave or something, there's minecart tracks, chests and explosives pretty much everywhere. So I get on the track and travel to the end. Where my friends are in a deadlock against the orc king. They are both attacking using magick and making it bounce of the crystals in the cave to strike at each other behind cover. But the orc king is blocking everything that is shot at him and my friends are just drinking potions. Somehow I manage to lure the orc king towards us and I approach him as there's a crystal behind him. He grabs my throat and starts to strangle me. So I fire some lightning spell at the crystal behind him so that it bounces at the back of his head. This is highly effective and the orc king is stunlocked to death. but as the fat in his face starts to wobble from the electricity i realize that it is in fact one of our friends. And the other two who where there to avenge their father gives their greeting to him and says that he's been losing weight so they didn't recognize him. And so we head back to the mansion to eat some dinner at an oversized table as in that one batman movie. So we have to start a skype group call to be able to communicate.

I dream, but my dreams are incredibly mundane, and usually the most heart-pounding ones I have are anticipating and having preemptive arguments with obnoxious customers.
My most recent dream, I awoke from my bed and went to the bathroom (incredibly dangerous to dream, and I'm most assuredly pushing my luck without having any incidents to be honest), take a shower, and then suddenly I'm at work; I work at a 7-11. I am standing in front of the lottery machine, the current Powerball jackpot was 102 million if I recall. I scanned the ticket, but it was a loser. I was one number off from winning $2, so I said Tch, and threw the ticket away. I won't bore you with the details, but then I proceeded to carry out my regular job behind the register interacting with my regular customers who of course purchase the same things. Just before we're about to do shift change, with the illusion of just doing an 8 hour shift, I actually wake up in reality, and proceed to carry out about 80% of this exact dream.
I've had dreams similar to this continuously for the last 3 years.

Last night, I had a dream I was impersonating a top student at a Nazi school. Probably because I was reading a book with such craziness in it. Then I blasted off into space with Ethan Hawke, fell into a pond, and went to an engagement party. Most of my dreams are kind of a surrealist montage of near-reality, because there's a finch in my pomegranate.

Two Swedes live in Sweden, one is going over to America as part of his education. The other one keeps telling him all the things he needs to see in new york and stuff like that.
Once in New york guy 1 is acting a bit carefully, avoiding people and not spending his money on a lot of things. But one day he spots his buddy in one of the places he always talked about, some frat union place at the bottom of a cinema building.
They chat up and apparently guynr2 went over there as well, inspired by guy 1. Guy 2 convince guy 1 that they should pretend to be American to blend in better and they head down to the people of the frat union to socialize. Guy 2 tries to blend in and draw attention to himself a lot which makes people ask a lot of questions. But in the end they manage to get accepted as Americans, without cellhpones and crucial things like that.
Next up, guy 1 and two are living in the same appartment and guy 2 has one of the girls from the frat union staying with them. but during the night guy1 can't sleep and decides to watch a movie, but has a bit of a trip. He experiences how he and guy 2 as well as one of the guys from the frat union are trying to solve a mystery at an old hotel that they stopped by during a roadtrip. All of a sudden guy 1 is a hedgehog, guy 2 is a turtle and guy 3 is a lemon. They follow their leads, using sound logic to analyze the scenario and finds a cult of some sort in the building. Their leader is a fraud who uses tricks to convince his followers that he have powers.
For some reason they have a unicorn so guy 1 (hedgehog) tries to infiltrate the cult, mostly to get a confession from the cult leader but also to save the unicorn. He adapts to the cult life and becomes good friends with the other cult members, but breaks out when he gets the chance to save the unicorn. And while guy 1 saves the unicorn, the leader is caught by the police when he does his dissappearing act on the stage. The police where waiting in his hidden passage under the stage, the rest of the cult is convinced that he used his powers to escape the police though.
The guys and the frat union is playing basketball outside, they look older. All of a sudden they accidently throw the ball through a persons window. Two police officers arrive at the scene with guns to arrest them. While all of them cooperate, one tries to run for it through an opening in the fence. However, he is really tall and a section of the barbed wire of the fence is hanging down. So as he races through the opening, his head gets torn off and the headless body walks about aimlessly before falling to the ground. Everyone is upset and sad, the police officers run away to avoid having to take responsibility and write a report about it.
The headless body on the ground is just one of many as the city of new york is in ruins, dead people are everywhere and people are evacuating the city. All the roads are filled with cars trying to get out. A huge plant like monster has appeared (think 3rd birthday) at the centre of the city with mouthed vines appearing all over eating people and spreading the size of the flower. People are being crushed and choked to death everywhere and our two guy 1 and 2 are also in a car trying to get out, avoiding the vines. All of a sudden they have to take a bad turn right where a new vine is formed.
By some chance the next scene is back in Sweden where they are back in their old neighborhood they grew up in. And guy 2 explains that he left without telling anyone, and guy 1 says that he probably made his family ashamed because he didn't finish what he set out to do. Then they see the unicorn they saved and apparently sent to Sweden for free medical care. But then all of a sudden, a new flower, like the one in new york erupts from the ground and starts spreading its roots. The entire earth is torn apart by these huge monstrous flowers and in the end the earth explodes.
Guy 1 wakes up or turns off the movie, feeling that there was something very uncanny about it. He realizes that he never went to watch a movie, because he's still in bed, or maybe he watched a movie and went back to bed and didn't realize. The next day he starts to tell the others about his dream during breakfast. But guy 2 interrupts him, not wanting him to tell the story. Instead he insists that guy 1 should go back home. Then guy 3 from the frat union appears and says that he also had a dream with some simmilarities during last night when he took some drug he called lightning. Guy 2 still insits that it's stupid, and sees the girl off as she has to go to work, dispite being interested in the stories.
Then guy 1 watches tv and sees the room, tommy wissau is entering his house with flowers, mark is in the hallway. He says hi to mark and enters the kitchen. Dinner is ready but the girl, who is the same girl as the one guy 2 is dating isn't interested in sex. Tommy keeps begging her to have sex with him, ending in a hateful "I am your husband, you should have sex with me". Guy 1 calls guy 2 in to show him. But as guy 2 arrives, the tv isn't even on and guy 1 can't find the film at all. The girl is in a coorporate building of some sort. Her clothes do not fit into what everyone else is wearing. Unfortunately she walks through a puddle and her feet are wet, attracting attention. So she enters a bathroom to clean up and just as she does that, she also manages to avoid a security guard heading down the hallway. She finds a pair of boots that the security guards wear and put them on. They make a clonking noise as she walks and they are kinda oversized. But all the workers are keeping out of the way when they hear the noise. She appears at the office she was heading for, a big one. And picks up a letter from her pocket and places it on the desk.
But the head of security appears behind her and grabs her arm to prevent the letter and takes it from her. He also looks at her feet and points out that those are his boots, but thanks her as he managed to spot some safety issues and sneak up on her thanks to this. He reads the letter and it says something about the affair being over between her and whoever works in the office. The security guards gets upset and asks if it's blackmail but she says she only wants to get out. He nods and sees her to the staff elevator.
Guy 1 is still tryinig to figure out if his dream was a vision of the future or just some mad ramblings. He experiences things he knew whould happen but some things don't. This is when he accidently gets into contact with the same cult as from before. The leader of the cult recognizes his ability to see the future and treats him like a trusted companion. After all, the things he tells the leader about, the leader can tell the others nd make it appear like he have powers. Guy 1 learns alot of secrets about the cult but nothing about the unicorn.
The girl is on her way to an audition, she's an actress of some sort and don't take her job very seriously. She gets the role since noone else wants it and calls guy 1 and 2 over to meet her at the theatre. They appear but also with a smaller girl, who is the girls little sister or something. Anyway, some director appears and is all annoyed that she got the part and she points out that none else wants to even audition for his stupid *** plays. So he says that the little girl should take her role, but then changes his mind and says that she gets to play a role of the land since the other one is of the sky. So the little girl is cast for a role of a mermaid or something and then the crew from the big bang theory rolls in. But the actress playing penny is instead the girl and the guy playing leonard is instead guy 3 from the frat union.
Guy 3 can't remember the name of Raj in the show and makes so many misstakes that it's painful. It's an episode about valentines day and Leonard fails to lull penny while sheldon made amy dissappointed by not having a surprise for her. Eitherway Raj appears and wants to find out where you can find red envelopes. And the rest of the crew makes fun of him with leonard pointing out that it's to late to send it since it's already valentines day anyway. Raj leaves but bumps into te cult leader who insits that he can make it happen for him.
Guy 1 is confronting the girl between the takes about her cheating on guy 2. He says that he knows, talking about tommy wissau but she thinks he means the office guy and spills the beans. Apparently he's some big shot and she'll be in trouble if anyone finds out. Guy 1 says that he needs to tell guy 2 about it since they are best friends. So she offers guy 1 sex, and he can't refuse it. But as he wakes up, there's nothing in the room. Even the bed is gone and all other stuff as well. As he goes out. The cult leader is there saying that sex will always be a girl's secret weapon and can be used to automatically escape.
Guy 1 and the cult leader works together to find her again, guy 1 got his visions and the cult leader is there to stop her from running away again. Guy 1 repeats the same event as last time confronting her and everything. But this time he do mention the office guy and she instead spills the beans on how she steals jewelry and props from the theatres she works on. Anyway, she offers sex again as last time and he can't refuse letting her escape. But as she's about to leave the room with all her stuff, the cult leader is there and confronts her as well. And since she already used her sex offer on guy 1, it doesn't work on the cult leader. Or well, they have sex but she isn't able to get out with all her stuff before he wakes up.
So now the cult leader and the girl is bonding, realizing that they both are con artists in a sense. Then the cult leader uses his secret passage to get out to his crowd and presents his magical abilities for them. And once he gets back to the room the girl is still there and he transformes her into the unicorn, declaring that only an impure women could possibly find salvation in being a unicorn. And that she should be happy about it.
Jump ahead to somewhere after the basket game guy 1 runs into the rest of the crew of the frat untion talking about their last few years. Guy 1 comes clean about not being american which guy 3 claims he knew all along. He also talks about his strange clarvoyance ability and the dissappearance of the girl. They all ask what happened to guy 2 and guy 1 explains that he's some coorporate bigshot now. Guy 3 then asks what would happen if everyone found out that he wasn't American. Guy 1 says he doesn't know. But that he wouldn't try to find out. Then they all mourn the guy who lost his head during the basketball game.
Guy 1 and guy3 are on a roadtrip, traveling flat landscapes with farms. A lot of the farms have been closed because of mysterious deaths such as choking and cracks in the ground. Also all farm animals have been mutilated or dissappeared entirely. Guy 1 recognizes this as the beginning of the huge plant. At a road stop they run into the remainder of the cult, they recognize guy 1 and ask him if he knows where the leader is. Guy 1 explains that the leader was just a fraud and is in jail by now. So they ask about the unicorn. And guy 1 says he sent it to Sweden for health care. They ask why he didn't just leave it in America. But guy 3 points out that even paying for the trip across the atlantic is cheaper than the unicorn health care in america.
Then the cult asks about the strange murders and guy1 tells them the vision of the huge flower. They all take it upon them to warn the world about this comming dissaster and spreads out to warn people. However they are doing this in the doom prophet way "the end is near!" "the huge flower will rise and kill us all" and noone is taking them seriously.
The coorporate man that the girl was having an affair with is the rival of guy 2 and is working for some biological company. He doesn't like guy 2 at all.
