Title: Wrath of Gaia - Charas Chain Game (Complete)
Post by: Prpl_Mage on August 05, 2014, 01:41:18 PM
Heya people, in the absence of DB I decided to create this thread since the Chain game we set out to create one year ago is finally complete!
Let's just say that "1 week each chapter" doesn't work when people are creative and have some sort of ambition for their games. And lets not forget that thing called real life that prevented some of us from participating or finishing our parts.

The final result is here though and I feel like we have accomplished something.

So without further wait I present Wrath of Gaia - a Charas Project chain game by DragonBlaze, Momeka, Moosetroop II, Prpl_Mage and Fisherson!

The game follows our two valiant heroes Jack and Kyruto as they travel through chapters to save the world. Each chapter has been created by one person and we all stuffed in some sidequests before the final dungeon.

Here are some screenshots!

Okay, played it till as far I as I could. Goddamn it guys. I'll exclude the bugs and bad writing as that's what one can expect from a project such but goddamn the jokes are so bad it almost physically hurt me. Ash's cap? Friend zone level increased? Come on guys. And what's up with the naming? Potion, Ether, ****ing Jack. Jezus. That toilet paper fetch quest? That **** was annoying.

The combat is literally press space to win, I rarely use any of the skills because why should I. Momeka did it best by leaving out the worst feature of the entire game: the combat. But then Moose thought "hmmm, there were no enemies in the previous chapter so I'll just double the original number to make up for it".

It's also chapter 3 where I had to give up because of the running part. RPGMaker does not lend itself for this kind of gameplay. It was so annoying that after trying it 20 times to 1) find the right timing to go 2) have the controls actually try to work in favour 3) and not getting screwed by the not in-sync movement of the enemies that I had to give up the game.

EDIT: I really want to try to play further but I'd need a cheat to get past that annoying stuff. Or a version that will take my save file and skip that part. Because I'm totally not patient enough to sit by and hope for the best.

If you got RPGM2k3 installed on your computer, open the project and do a test run. load your file. Hold down Ctrl and you can run across any terrain. Run to the end of the map and exit.

Otherwise I guess I could send you a savefile where the player has just reached the end of the minigame if you want to.

I didn't have any problems with that part though.

My bad. I made the monsters walk around on the map so you could avoid them, as a conscious effort to find a good compromise between DB's and Momeka's bits...

Maybe it's my computer, but they're going so goddamn fast I can barely make it. I attached the main problem area I just can't pass. A save game would be nice, I don't have RPGMaker installed.

Oh wow, it's awesome to see this finished!  :w00t: Well done everyone.

It would be pretty sweet if someone with admin/mod powers could do a front page post.

Yeah that's the tricky part.
I PM'd you a savefile

I think the only mods with the site news powers these days are MIC and Archem.

The thing to remember with that part is that there's spaces between those shadows.

I know this is like four years old but I downloaded this game just now.  About to check it out and chop down some tree monsters in the process. *packs up some raw goat and catnip, erm funny mint plant and goes on a new adventure that has been around for years.*

Below is one of the maps that I hand drawn, and then screwed up with a broken scanner fax thingy so I redrew it up in MS Paint for those who are having trouble with the invisible floor rooms.

Below is a similar map to the one above, only this one is after the mini boss.

Just like I did back in the days of NES.  I was going to send the hand drawn ones because they looked much better than these digital ones.  But my copier will not work with my lap top.  It is old and busted.  These maps were made when I grew weary of inventing new swear words.  I asked The Purple Mage if it was okay that I posted these first.  I thought it would be a shame to waste them.

These two were the toughest ones.  There was a lot of ways to keep the floors showing in that long stretch part.
