Title: Warped Discussion Thread 2: The Future of the Dentverse.
Post by: Fisherson on September 24, 2014, 05:28:28 AM
Okay so I'd talk about this on my DA journal, but the don't really know much about Warped and sides it mostly pans to Charas and all the inside humor you guys would enjoy from it...Which is a problem. See I'm getting tired of explaining what the Dentverse is and reffering to Warped as the canon core material. Not to say I don't love Warped and want to make it, I do, but I want it to be the canon "first game" in the Dentverse that people first see when I tell them about it. I mean I love Charas, but our humor is based on a load of inside jokes that I'm beginning to see actually aren't always easy to get on the first trip out the gate. ^^; Especially coming as a second hand knowledge or gags made by the characters rather than acted out in scenes in the games. But more than that recently I've been able to ascend most of the Dentverse to at least being mostly mine. Even have a way to keep both versions of Dave in the same reality with just a tweak of astrophysics.

The Orilla Galaxy is where Dave first wound up. He was captured by a servant of Al Gore, lord of the Eco Imperium.  The Charasian Cluster is an area of compressed space where the laws of physics go out the window and where he helped liberate the flying island of Charas from the evil Dragonium and has access to slightly less copy righted powers. <.< The Orilla Galaxy is larger and the Charasian Cluster is part of the Orilla but isn't like a huge section of the galaxy that'd normaly require about all the territory you saw in Star Trek TNG plus Star Trek Voyager too!  I think you'll agree this is pretty time saving and awesome! Now on how this affects Warped and some other projects.

Firstly Warped is a spin off I'm making purely for you guys, I probably won't make a sequel unless I get begged to. XD I'm gettng more in the mood for smaller funner projects like:

Dentverse 1: Down the Wormhole:
Basically the same plot as Warped only minus a great deal of the inside jokes generated here at Charas. It will also bring back my favorite bit: Al Gore as the main bad guy. Yes I needed to drop him in Warped, but honestly? I can spin a more serious plot than you'd think from this. Try Al Gore's mind sent forward from his cryogenically frozen head due to a loyal cult of psychically powered mutants. Pretty cool right? Plus this storyline lets me add in my own canon crew without overloading the party.

Now that doesn't mean I'm abandoning Warped entirely...Ugh...12 Am... I need sleep. Darnit but I want to talk about my revelation of how to reduce the number of "original characters" and stream line the plot. < <;; Oh fine! I'll update this tomorrow if I get on.

-New Warped Plot goes here-
Edit: Sept, 24:
Actually down here.  Okay so let's discuss some big revelations I had about Warped while playing with the order of events and how it affected the game from a linear storyline rather than an open one:

In the original game we had Dave fly throw a wormhole ended up crashing on Chief Lonewolf's world, IE Xia-Lan, and save his son from the ewful shaman. Not too bad. After saving his son and defeating some horrid dark side monstrosity the ship would be fixed and you could call the Moderator for help. Where Admiral Bluhman would then warp you and your ship to Charasisa the flying city and you would get an audiance with Pharye who asks you to fly to Golanda and investigate the rumors of high tech on a pre-warp planet. End of act 1.

Now that's a pretty darn cool opening. Buuuut I can make it cooler and more logical.

Part 1: An Proper Beginning
Firstly that darn running gag of my ship crashing has gotten old so we're tossing that out. Secondaly we'll actually have a little build up and narrative talking about how Dave's mom raised him to be a Freighter pilot won't we? Ofcourse we will. Then after a little bit of text and cut scenes we'll get to the scene you all remember, but I changed somewhat, where Dave is flying along minding his business and suddenly PIRATES!! Space pirates anyway and they want ye cargo! Can't have that now can we? So you try to out run them and, if the ABS was still functioning, we'd have a tutororial here about ship to ship encounters and brief battle against a couple of slow moving easy targets to help you get used to that. Then afterwards the lead pirate ship would sneak up behind you and pound the flip out of you till more than half the crew is dead and everything is on fire and spinning out of control. As they close in suddenly a wormhole opens up and both ships are sucked into it! Is this the end? Sadly no for Dave. You'll wake up, finally, getting to play as him doing a little KOTOR 2 tribute where you had to fix the ship. Only this ain't optional because as you're trying to figure out how to put out fires Rusty will show up. In this version Dave and Rusty will not have known each other and it will be explained Rusty was stowing away in the ship for...plot reasons to later be revealed....For now you're reluctant allies having to put out the fires on the ship both figuratively and literally and then figure out where you are. The two of your will manage to figure out the stars don't look remotely familiar and the Galaxy map isn't lighting up. Better news! You're running out of air and only have enough power for sub lights, but there is hope in the form of that unkown signal from a distant star. You set a course and manage to land. Shocking isn't it? Well don't be too happy as you can see from the outside the ship is pretty much scrap without new parts but you did detect that signal right? Well why not investigate it?

Part 2: Revised Kiowa Mission
You would still arrive at the the village, but this time it'd look deserted and suddenly you'd  be surrounded by Native American-Looking People who call themselves the Tribe of Kiowa. You would then be taken to their Cheif. A man known as a Lonewolf who would tell you he ddidn't want to scalp you buuut if you don't pass a certain test? He'd have to. The test? Simply go to a old cave in the forest and retrieve the Glass Orb. Sounds easy right? You go there and surprise surprise it ain't! A hideous monster appears that you can't kill with your vibro sword! Which conveintly breaks and all seems lost till suddenly a hologram-like thing appears and tells you to pick up the metal cylinder and equip it, quickly! Panicked you do so and this time around you actually get to fight the Horribly Muted Cave Bear with only minor difficulty as it's one on one. You manage to defeat and ask the hologram who it is and it tells you it's name is Jei-Pei and it's not a hologram but in fact a Holocron, a Jedi relic. You will not Dave doesn't seem the Jedi expert he normally is on Charas, that's cause in this version he's just a force sensitive freighter pilot. After talking to the Holocron of Jei-Pei you will take it with you and set back for the village only to find it's been burned down! Lonewolf will be most distraught because his wife and child were in that place. After investigating Jei-Pei's spirit will note that there's some markings here that indicate a struggle and that many people were abducted by a star ship. For now you can't do anything about that but accept Lonewolf's offer to join up and repair the ship's antenna and send out a subpace SOS. A a cutscene later? There's the ship! But upon arriving? They take you into custody and haul you back to lesser known Federation Space Base where you await questioning by a young officer. How will this go? Sorry but that's not plotted out and won't be till I hear some feed back

Simple, start off by removing the ones that are irrelevant to the plot. Maybe overthrowing Dragonium's reign in every game isn't that important.

Next you rename the ones you want to keep, that way these characters can be homages to charas members. But not actual charas members called "meiscool" or "prpl_mage" or "too_sly4u".

Third, you explain the things you want to keep to the player and actually develop the characters in the game instead than doing a wild reference to it. Otherwise it might just seem wacky to the players.

Fourth, you keep me in the game because I'm cool and could supply you with sprites.

Gasp! You can't be serious!...No actually I see what you're saying. XD I was thinking about cutting back on that. I mean I pick on poor Draggy too much lately anyway. I did my tribute to him in the Chain Game and I plan to one day detail how I HELPED defeat him. <.< But yeah I need to lay off our numero uno primeira villain. ^_^;

Now that I actually figured out early on and have been refining as best I could. I mean in the new Chain Game I just left everyone's name in tact cause I wanted them to recognize themselves. ^^; I will admit I need to use in more in the Dentverse though...<.< I slip up from time to time. It helps when there are people like you who actually have alternate names. Like Marduk the Great and Purple. Unlike people like Apex or Uberpawnw00t XD It's a little harder to extract that into a realistic name. One reason why I think we should have an archive of all members to line up with all these chara sets that also contains alternate names and backstories, but I'll leave that pipe dream for later on.

Hmm I will admit I've given that allot of thought. Hence why in the first game there will next to zill referances to the Charasian Cluster. I'll save that for afterwards. Though it didn't appear in this version of the "Misadventures" Demo, I did actually make an intro where Dave appears and talks as me to the players telling them not to take the game too seriously and to keep in mind this was made for a crappy RPG contest and is loosely supported by allot of inside jokes and crud. Though I have recently ascended the story to the point I don't really need any inside jokes much. <.< In fact I could drop Jet and Dave if their names weren't in the title and I didn't have to do hours of re-writing XD

True you could be useful. XD But you were never on my list of things to cut from either universe. Didn't you notice how you've sorta become a powerful support character in allot of my gags? Plus your Warped form is more bad *** than any KOTOR or Old Rebpluic character in my opinion. ^-^ I still fully intend to finish that set and see you as a playble character.

Okay been a little bit since I posted in this but since working Jack's Sweet Nightmare I've had time to think and I'm debating removing all my "non charas" Characters from Warped but Rusty. Especially Stu Esuna the Moogle Medic. Much as I love his Doctor McCoy-like seriouz biznaz attitude he's actually more fun and interesting in the canon "game 1" Dentverse Origins. Cause you get to see his homeworld, how he came to join up with a human and a droid, plus it allows me make a Charasian a "frager" instead if I want to. Though it does cause some trouble early on: Dave, Rusty, Lonewolf= Balanced Fighter,Tank and Archer...No healer. <.< In fact it also means you have to traverse the forests of Kiowa with only two starting. Now that's worked in the past (Carpe' Diem and I think Apathy of Angels? Can't remember) but it'd be tricky. I know what you'll say: "Dur make Dave able to use "Force Heal". I mean most "hero" classes have it anyway after a level or two." I have to admit I considered that but no. It's hard enough balancing Dave's attack and support skills as is through projections of how the game will run in the future and it'd mean adding another skill tree for him to develop that techically he's never shown much use of. I mean he's able to self treat-....Hmmm there's a route. We could do what KOTOR did and have it so our units can treat their own injuries? Huh. Nah that just adds the problem to everyone else. Though having Dave with a "heal self only" skill might solve the problem for Kiowa at least. But beyond that? Well maybe you can help, after all you guys are the one's who Warped is being developed for as a primary audience right? How can you help?? Simple. In the new version there's a point when Dave, Rusty and Lonewolf have to hitch a ride on a Moderator Class (Star Destroyer or NX Class ship in Charisian Tech Terms) and head towards Charisia...But on the way the ship is called on to make a detour to investigate a distress call coming from Golanda. The ship warps over and finds it can't get near the planet due to a network of satellite Lazers leftover from a previous war. Captain Valiere orders a squad to go and the Comander of that Squad asks Dave to accompany them since his Lightsaber and Rusty's Data Probe may come in handy so they're asked to follow along. Upon arriving there's a crash landing and everyone but your party and one of the Charas Marines are killed. This marine will serve as your healer as they are a medic. But who do I use?! XD Personaly I'd like to use Felix-O cause well he's not had many good cameos in any games I know of...But he is a sword user and Dave, Zesher, Phayre and Skyler? Yeah too many swords. So convert Felix to a frager? Hmm need to take that up with him...Unless you guys can offer a better candidate?

Warped is a Star Wars-like spoof which stars members of Charas as playable characters and NPCs. It was originally how David got his start as my rep then later became the framework for the Dentverse, my game series staring him Rusty and all their allies and adversaries..
