I've been thinking about it and...I think I want my mod powers back. Look I know I went a tad overboard when I had the ability to delete and modify posts, and I am sorry but then again who of us hasn't at one time or another? I know I also was a bit lazy and didn't monitor my board, heck I can't even remember which it was! But I am older and wiser now and I want a second chance to help defend the realm I love. Sides I'm waaaay more active then I was then and am checking this place at least twice a day at maimum, sometimes more when I have a topic of interest on the board. So ...can I haz my semi phenomenal nearly cosmic powers back guys?

Well, while we do have a whole lot of moderators, few of them are active. But then again, there's really no desperate need of moderators these days.

No offence, but I really don't see no need for more moderators and admin on this forum. Specially when about 50% of the active members already are.

Wait. So you can lose moderator powers and there's no chance for promotion here cause all the board's already have one? That's a little sad. :( So what about Adminship?

Yes you can lose your powers, the system would collapse otherwise. And moderators role is to moderate the boards, and to be honest, the boards don't have an awful lot of posts to moderate these days

That's cause Midnight originally approached me in a PM entitled something like "Pssst! Hey you. Want to be a Moderator?" In my mind it all happened in some shadowy alleyway with her wearing nothing but a trench coat, a fedora, a chastity belt and some sunglasses. She was recruiting me to overthrow the administration and off set the balance of power. Then somewhere along the lines she carried me away to her secret RP forum and we made sweet, sweet pottery.

Well it'd be rather unfortunate if someone you couldn't take moderator powers from deleted all your posts, banned you, didn't do their job, or acted inappropriately - being able to have some checks and balances are certainly necessary. If someone steps the line then its hard to trust they just won't do it again.
At some point I feel like I missed that the question of why mods can loose powers evolved into a huge play and I'm just fourth walling it to smithereens at the moment. Sorry, a little rusty on forum-ing

Heh yeah but Admins are like presidents. Their powers comes from the people and isn't really worth obtaining in my eyes. I mean look at Lucus. If anything power has made him more mellow and less energetic! Not to mention I haven't heard from Pleasent or Squirtile in a while.

Well when I last checked Val hasn't been here in years, no? Why not give me that responsibility? Can't say it's cause it has too many, since it technically has none now.

Begging? I thought I was pointing out a flaw in the logic of me not being re-promoted? Plotting I might accept, manipulating certainly but begging? I don't see it. >.> Also who are you talk of wanting something for status? Wanting to be an Admin is most certainly not just for the office view, no? XD It's for the power! The status! The right to use the Banhammer and even modify the very world we live in on here....O_O Come to think of it Admin Archem might just be the hypothetical the final boss of Charas. That'd be a neat twist for sure XD

Fish, the forum has zero need for extra moderators (and has been like this for years, not to mention that global moderators can still act on individual boards if needed), plus you did a terrible enough job last time that I'd say it's enough to keep you away from having the position ever again.

Ditto. The traffic (and necessary policing) is minimal enough that the small group of staff can handle whatever problems arise with no problem.
Do we have a staff list? I'm not sure how many of us there are these days.

Jesus Christ. That was never the point. Do you think Creative Arts was an unruly mess screaming for order when Val was given moderatorship over it? While a certain minimum was necessary, I mostly used mod positions as a way to reward and encourage the right type of people to hang around the site. Which is incidentally why I was uninterested in certain mods at points - I hadn't hired them because I felt I needed them, but because another member of the staff thought they were worth it, and that was usually good enough for me.

If you would try to make this forum active as much as you're begging to become a moderator to a forum that has an active member group of a dozen with the highlight of this week's posting being this thread, then maybe you'd be able to make a case. But until this forum is even a fragment of what is was from 2004-2008, then don't even bother.

Hmm so what you're saying is I should focus less on manipulation and more on my actual goal of seeing us restored to our prime? Hey I'm all for it, but how? I mean I've been browsing and we're sorta antiquated and not as hot as we were in the old days. Heck most of our "affiliate sites"? Long since gone. Our site isn't top notch, I mean I discovered a site who have a feature for "Multi-Quote Posting". I never ever know that existed! O.o RMK.net? They're got a super efficient way to browse games using tags!! @-@ With a a feature to follow the game content, and they are even still makign RPG maker 2003 games that people are playing. Seriously that's sorta what lured me there. Truthfully? I don't think we're out of the game but I think we need to improve sometime in the future...but I worry another site update will mean the loss of allot of data or worse the site may implode and we'd all be our younger selves trapped in a sinister new Forum AI who slowly picks us off one by one till only Zoltar is left alive! 8O
But seriously we need to put together a team to research how to attract more new blood and keep 'em as well get our image out there. Heck even the indie game developers I talk to haven't heard of us unless they're former members. I'm always out there advertizing us to people on other sites though so I'm hardly just sitting on my duff ya know. <.<

Already posted two simple ways:
Update the forum appearance, because this **** is old as hell.
Make the forum a broader appeal, for example by making it a game development forum.

Expanding the forum as a general game development forum was a plan, and we were even working on revamping the generators to make them not just RPG Maker specific, but then... I don't know what happened, but everyone just stopped.

They stopped cause they have real lives or got bored. Same thing happened to my "Charas Ex Upgrade". People lost interest pretty easily on forums cause we all just like the idea of fixing up our site but we don't want to do the work. The few of us who do probably don't have the codding skills or the time either. =/ It's a tricky prospect. It makes you wonder how Forums stay up and running really. Hm I think we need to make a news years resolution: This New Year's Eve we'll, everyone, will give it at least a try to get the old girl up and running like she used to be. Not just for my possible premotion but for the spirit of Charas!! Heck forget about me, or you or even that funny guy lurking over there! This is a call out to all members, new and old to rise up and at least give it one good go at saving the site! Who's with me??

I used to be a mod way back in the day (now I feel old). Moderators are needed when you have a lot of members posting things that you need to, well, moderate. When you have a site like charas with a small active user base, there should only be a few mods, otherwise too many people have their hands in the cookie jar. Honestly being a mod is over rated, just enjoy the site and don't worry about constantly looking for spammers and flamers :)

He's right, you know. I forget that I have powers a lot of the time, and I'm only reminded when someone reports bots or spam or something, and then I need to come play janitor. I doubt anyone thinks of me as important staff, but that might be because I built up my social status by spamming and being a jackass. The only reason I'm a mod at all is because I'm so active, so I'm usually one of the first people on the scene when something needs to be sorted out. It's hardly glamorous, it's just unpaid work. Go be like me and make sure everyone knows who you are by just being the craziest guy here.
