Title: Classics that you want to finish.
Post by: Apex on January 31, 2015, 11:16:49 PM
Last week I had the flu, and had to stay home from work. I dedicated most of that time to finally finishing Resident Evil 4. Phenomenal game, I can't believe I hadn't finished it before! This last year I've been obsessed with trying to finish games that are considered either master pieces, or fantastic by most. I've finished a few games on my list so far, Bioshock, Bayonetta, Bowser's Inside Story, and Super Metroid just to name a few, but I still have a list of games that I know as a gamer I need to see through to the end.

Games I feel like I need to play through:
Batman Arkham Asylum 1 and 2
Baulder's Gate 1 and 2
Resident Evil 1 and 2 (I am half-way through 1 right now. Damn it's good.)
Legend of Mana
Psychonauts
System Shock 2

These are games that I've heard un-ending praise for but just haven't sat down to finish.

So let's share those games that we've always intended to beat, but haven't done it yet, and encourage each other to meet these gaming-goals.

I have a bunch of games I'd like to actually finish or even play for that matter.  Here's a list I can think of at the moment.

Donkey Kong Country 2 and 3
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (Im waiting for it to go on sale again on eshop)
Final Fantasy X
Final Fantasy XII
Pandora's Tower (Wii)
Super Metroid
Double Dragon II: The Revenge (I can't beat it on hard to get to the last fight!!)
Donkey Kong 64
Advanced Wars (Have it on Wii U's VC)
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (the extra stuffs)
Super Mario 3d World (the last levels... they're hard!)
Shin Megami Tensei IV
Mario & Luigi: Dreamteam
Paper Mario Sticker Star
Super Paper Mario
Legend of Dragoon (I don't remember the game much so I wanna replay it at some point)
Zelda II: Adventure of Link (hard)
Super Mario bros Wii U
Bayonetta 2 (curently playing)
Super Punch Out
Punch Out!! (Wii)
And uhh... hmm.. I guess that's all i can think of atm.  Wow, that's a long list actually :/

The older I get, the less time I have to play games, so really long games tend to turn me off lately. That being said, Final Fantasy X, Super Metroid, and Bayonetta 2 are all short and oh-so-sweet. I'd go for those three first. Literally just beat Bayonetta 2 this week, great game.

Also, Paper Mario Sticker Star was pretty good. Most people will tell you not to bother with it, but I've beaten in recently and enjoyed it quite a bit. It's a very cryptic game though, so be prepared to backtrack and scratch your head a lot. Out of all the Paper Mario games I'd say it's the weakest, but that's partially considering how much I really love that series. I'm assuming you've beaten Thousand Year Door? If not, drop Sticker Star, and Super Paper Mario immediately, and play that one.

I'm like 6 hours into Mario & Luigi Dream Team now, I just beat Insider Story right before starting it, so I got a little burnt out. I'll get back to it soon though.

I loved Thousand Year Door.  I lost interest when I first started playing it because I either got bored or lost in Chapter 2 inside that tree thingy, but after that it became a lot better.  The Blitz Pit was it?  Great fun.

I'm almost 7 hours into Bayonetta 2 atm.  I just got finished playing it for now lol.  And people say Wii U games are ugly...

Final Fantasy X i got mad at inside of Sin so I stopped playing cause I died lol.  I'll finish that eventually along with the kingdom hearts games.  Super Metroid I got pretty far in, but I'm also stuck in Metroid Fusion.  Right when you get into the water place where the electricity makes the water harmful.  Pretty soon Monster Hunter 4 and Zelda MM comes out... Dammit lol.  Then we have Xenoblade Chronicles X and Zelda U coming out too and possibly even a new Fire Emblem.  And I'll have to do that extra stuff on Hyrule Warriors... arrrgghh and the Mario Kart DLC... Dammit Nintendo!  And also the soon to be released hopefully Golden Sun 2: The Lost Age.  Even though I beat the first one 4 times and itself twice and the third twice.  I love those games.

Dream Team is very good, it can feel a lil long at some parts of the game though.  But it is very funny and well written.  If you are a Zelda fan and haven't played the Oracle duo, I highly recommend those two because they were great!  Capcom did well working on those.

I'm a dedicated vintage game-purist and anti-corporate gamer.
That said I almost exclusively play and collect vintage gaming only, older titles fall into the abandonware category and are distributed from individual to individual-- juxtaposed bourgeois to consumer, even on eBay (although still a corporation) you're buying from an individual over a corporate chain like Game Stop, Nintendo or Sony. I JUST spent my annual bulk collecting funds <tax returns>, 1500$ on vintage gaming which include;

In the box, complete Sega Genesis console,
Shining Force 1 complete in box w/ all inserts,
Shining Force 2,
Alissa Dragoon,
FF3 (6) official strategy guides (all region types) including the master's guide, case, and manual,
Golden sun 1 and 2, complete in box,
Final fantasy dawn of souls, factory sealed,
Final Fantasy 3, translated and ported onto an NES cart,
50 reproduction NES cart sleeves,
Shadowrun for Genesis and SNES,
Phantasy Star 2 player's guide,
Just pretty much all around collection strengthening, more-so this year in the Genesis and portable sector.

This is to add to my already fairly well established collection.

My goal so far, is to have beat data on every single RPG game from the NES-SNES consoles, I still have a ways to go.
My Seiken Densetsu (Secret of Mana II) repro SNES cart just died on me too, what a waste.

How bout the Silver Surfer NES game? Classic.

Let's see good games that aren't too long.

Metal Gear solid 1>4 are pretty good, kinda important part of the gaming history I think. Just skip the PS1 version of MGS1 and do the GC remake.
I personally dig the Kingdom hearts series, but id that kind of thing isn't for you then just skip it.
Dark souls 1? Played it?
Some people would say Shadows of colossus and Ico, Isay skip them. They are hyped for nothing.
Also, Hyrule warriors is a pretty sweet game if you dig the hack and slash nature of a dynasty warriors. And you can get like all the DLC for 15€
Xenoblade Chronicles was a good game but far too long for your taste most likely. Same with tales of symphonia or any other tales of game, or star ocean really - pretty much the same thing.

I need to get round to finishing Morrowind at some point. I love it, but I never got too invested in the story: just flying around using epic enchanted items.

GAAAAHHHHHHHH NOT SILVER SURFER!!!!

Although I do need to add it to my collection if I want to sate my completionist tendencies.

That said it seems we're rather opposite as I considered KH to be overhyped and Shadow of Colossus to be amazing xD.
I'll be honest, it was just because of that water Colossus... When the camera floats overhead and as your swimming this shadow more than two hundred times your size swooshes by underwater?

Goosebumps man... Goosebumps...

I. F#%$ing. Love. Morrowind.

Know that game like the back of my hand...
Until you get to the Gnisis territory. Then screw that, Telvanni be kickin' yo' teeth in.

Just remember... Black-White-Black-Black A-hold, press B while holding; Bam invincibility.

I'd rather not fill the next twelve pages with posts about games I want/need to finish, so I'll just say "a shit ton" and leave it at that.

My backlog is infamously massive.

Ah, the contra games.  I beat super C back when I was younger.

I have breath of fire II, but I honestly can't stand how slow they walk.  Where's the run button!!!?

I liked Breath of Fire 1, it was fun. Breath of Fire 2-4 on the other hand were AWESOME. Start with 2, beat it, and move on up the ladder. They are fun games, and they aren't that amazingly long either.

This should be common knowledge to Jrpg fans, but avoid Breath of Fire 5. Ew.

Super Mario (without star road)

Illusion of Gia (got stuck on what to do next)

Borderlands 2
Suikoden 2
Final Fantasy Tactics (Not going to happen, but a guy can dream)
Phantasy Star Series
Fire Emblem 2 (I loved it but I put it down and never picked it back up after I bought it)

Oh, Metroid Prime triology. Good games, they are on sale on Wii U at the moment for like 10€.

Also, castlevania, any one. They are pretty much the same thing.
I suppose that some fighting games also count as classics. Like Dead or Alive, or a Tekken, perhaps a Soul Calibur - Mortal Kombat, everyone needs to play mortal kombat 3 ultimate. Such simple fun.

I can't really recomend Mass effect, dragon age or the Witcher though. They are kinda special and not for everyone.

I've beaten Metroid Prime 1 and 3, and I plan to go at 2 when I have enough time.
