Title: Reveiw of new 2k3
Post by: Fisherson on August 15, 2015, 09:12:41 PM
Pssffttt!! XP Worthless! It's just the regular system with some features changed WHICH HURTS YOUR PROJECTS that use RTP animations previously. My Misadventures may be ruined now. T_T I haven't confirmed that it can import bigger sprites but so far? Just the 2k3 with some changes to the names of essential files that can damage your games. Yay so happy. XP

It's exactly the same but legit. I thought we covered this in the thread earlier.

Part of me wants to go back to good old rm2k3! The appeal of not having to do everything manually is just too great.

Yeah... Kinda like purp said. They werent trying to redesign 12 year old software, just satisfy the english communities desire for a legit copy of rm2k3. Which is cool, you could conceivably release legal commercial versions of past projects now. Also, dynrpg 0.3 will be pretty ****ing cool and totally legal.

Oh wow. I gave up on Quasi because I wanted to release it commercially and thought it was too ambitious.

Still, I doubt someone would pay real money for a game created in that engine!

If people are willing to pay like $18 for an XP/VX game using the default graphics and battle system then I'm pretty sure they would cash out on some of our stuff.

With recent updates, I noticed that dynrpg works with the new rpg maker projects- and honestly, I'm having less issues with systems freaking out and events that should work not working.  I transitioned with only positive results.  I think you just have bad luck Fish.

Wait, dyn works with the new 2k3?

I guess that it does now?  I had to go to an older version of the rpg_rt file the other day (the most recent one I had didn't have the dynrpg on it anymore) and I noticed that the dynrpg logo came up during playtesting and the plug-ins I had worked.  I also recently switched to windows 10, not that I think that did it, but it was after that I noticed.  Maybe check to see if your rm2k3 is the most recent version on steam?

Something that has been bugging me though is that when I edit projects in rm2009 I can only get up to 50 pictures, whereas in the new rm2k3 I can get past that limit but I can't access the subfolders I created in rm2009 so I have to go back in forth.  It adds a bit of wasting your time to the process if you have to do a lot of that.

I tried using dynRPG with the official version (non-steam one though), all it did was corrupt my data. Good thing I had a backup =)
I'm quite happy with this official release, it corrects a lot of bugs from the old translated one, especially the loop problems. Other than that, yeah, it's pretty much the same.

Thats how I thought dyn worked with the new release!

The steam version is nice, just 10 years late. I may try making a short game with it outside of the chain game. The scripts are color coded by command, which is really nice, the fonts are nicer, more than 50 pictures <3, and it seems to run a bit better.

What the hell is dynRPG?

How did I not know about that before??

Has anyone else noticed issues with saves from the steam version of rm2k3? I've noticed that it does not seem to pick up the changes on the current map when I load a game, but it'll pick up the changes when I start a new game.

Events that are "erased" are reloaded once you edit a map. Is that it?

I have the dynrpg plugin for a custom save file I haven't implemented so I have no idea about the save function in the new RM...

I can. It likes to load at about 7 or so but if I try and trick it and save there it moves it up. XD Also am I crazy or is the harmony not working on new games made with this maker? Then again maybe it's just I'm out of practice of using the Harmony DLL? You just put the DLL file in the folder and other people without RPG maker should be able to use it, yes?

You shouldn't need to add a Harmony.dll file at all!  They fixed that in the newer 2k3's before the steam version, Fish. That is probably your problem.

Also, finally played around the dynrpg save and load plug-in/patch.  It works - although it takes some work around to get it to function correctly.  (Sometimes if there is an event where a switch turns on and a the other page is just blank on the map you save on, the event will run again even though the switch is on.)  The work around is that at the beginning of the event you can just have a conditional branch that checks to see if the switch is on and then jump to a label at the end of the event where you erase it.  Or at least, that's what I've done.

I'm quite interested in this, as it'd be nice to have a legit way to work with old games.

Does it support plugins/addons? I'd like to do some work with DynRPG and possibly create some new
features.

It suddenly started working for me - I imagine now that Enterbrain changed the legal jargon on it to allow patches, we'll see some sort of update for it eventually.  Still not sure how I managed to get it to work with mine or if they already have update it.

I think with 10+ year-old technology, they should embrace every mod and patch available!
