Title: Fallout 4
Post by: Apex on November 12, 2015, 08:39:21 AM
Anyone got it? What system do you have it for? Any fun experiences? It's a Bethesda game, so any interesting glitches?

I barely got it running on my laptop (bless it's 4 year old cpu.) at 720p with a consistent 30fps. I've only put a few hours into it so far, but I'm loving it.

Same standards apply. If you like the Elder Scrolls or Fallout 3/New Vegas, you'll like this too. If you didn't like those games, you likely wont like this one either.

PC. No noteworthy glitches (in fact, surprisingly few for a Bethesda title at launch). Having a good time taking everything at a slow pace on survival difficulty. All of my friends started doing it at my recommendation (first to play among us), and we're sharing our experiences. The game looks ok, though at times it's barely distinguishable from 3 or NV. The crafting is cool, even though I've only barely started figuring it all out. The combat is actually good enough that I don't really use VATS too often, so that's nice.

Basically, I'm having a good old time. I named my character Roger, and Codsworth is oh-so-close to calling me Mr. Rogers.

I donno, I was just never hooked by Fallout. The shelter app game thingy is mildly addictive though.

I've read so many negative reviews, I'm a little worried. The dialogue wheel thing sounds pretty bad, and I've heard the leveling thing is completely different. I'm still considering it, but not 100% sure.

Negative reviews? If you enjoyed Fallout 3, there's virtually nothing to dislike about Fallout 4. It's like the same thing, but refined and with new features. As for the dialogue, it's the same as always, just organized differently and with a voice actor. No big deal. The level system is different, but not so drastically that you can't adjust. Honestly, I kind of like the new approach.

Well I decided to actually get it anyway. It's nearly done downloading. I assume there is indeed no way I can actually dislike it, so I figured why not.

They've changed a few things, the perk system being the major one, but the new systems are good and so I'm not too unhappy. I think a lot of the bitching is just because people don't like change, but if all I wanted was Fallout 3 with current gen graphics then there's probably a mod for that!

People bitched about Fallout 3, too. Change is scary, especially when it's a radical change to something you love. I understand the Fallout 3 hate, but the Fallout 4 complaints are largely invalid.

Besides, there's always Wasteland 2. It's pretty great.

So, yeah. Not very far, but so far I'm enjoying it. I can understand some of the dislikes, but as of yet, I wouldn't drop the rating based on these few changes.

Quoted for truth.  I'm not really sure where the negative reviews are coming from. It's a Bethesda game, you should know what you're getting yourself into.

Honestly, as far as the animation and graphics go, it reminds me a lot of a Pixar movie. I'm very neutral on it, but you can tell a lot of effort went into it, and you can appreciate that. Gameplay wise, it's very fun, and unfortunately as addicting as impervious games.

Workshop is also very addictive. I'm really liking it so far. There's a few things I both like and dislike, like the power armour, but overall I'm definitely not disappointed.

I kind of like the new power armor system. Definitely makes it feel more... Powerful.

I was definitely sceptical about the changes, so I only played Fallout 3 because it was a Fallout game. I'd never played any TES games (and I've still only played Skyrim, going back to the others seems pointless since a lot of them seem really outdated gameplay-wise (yet alone graphics wise!)), so FO3 is basically responsible for getting me into the Bethesda style of RPG.

The reason I'd never played any of TES games was because I played some other first-person RPG around the time I was hooked on Diablo 2, and I decided the concept was retarded. More likely, that was just a bad game. I think it was one of the Might and Magic games...

It looks amazing! Will I like it if I despised Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrim and Fallout 3 though?

If you didn't like Skyrim and Fallout 3 then I doubt you'll like Fallout 4. The FPS elements are slightly more emphasised because VATS is less of a pause-everything function and the guns feel more responsive, but the game is still incredibly similar to Bethesda's other titles.

Indeed. Fallout 4 is a souped-up Fallout 3, so if you didn't like Fallout 3 (you monster), you won't like Fallout 4.

Still, if you're unsure, there's always YouTube. Watch and see if it looks better for you.

I honestly appreciate the perk system a lot more in this one. Didn't invest in massive amounts of strength? Well then you wont be offered the special melee perks that boost punching damage. Like abusing VATS (a time-slowing auto-aim targeting system.), then invest into agility and get a special that automatically hits criticals for every enemy you've targeted after the 3rd target.

It's just... a fun experience.

Haha, that did make me laugh, Archem! I'll probably just give it a miss then, tbh!

I'm chronicling my misadventures in Fallout in video form. The more interesting bits are slowly making their way to YouTube.
