Title: Undertale
Post by: Apex on November 30, 2015, 09:32:11 AM
How about that Undertale? I've beaten the game, and I have to say: It was an incredible experience. I know that this game is getting a lot of praise, and probably doesn't need any more, but wow. I full heartedly recommend this game. The full price is $10, and it's worth every penny. It's about 7-10 hours long, so it's not going to consume your life for a month or two. Play this game. Just do it.

Has anyone else given this a chance yet? What are your thoughts?

To be on the safe side for those who plan to play this, we should keep this thread as spoiler free as possible.

My thoughts are that it doesn't deserve anywhere near the amount of praise that it's getting. But at least it's a functional game and isn't terrible, which makes it better than a lot of the games that garner lots of praise from the indie community...

Seen some screens and videos of this gnarly little title and it does look interesting. Heard it judges your actions in game and even if you while your PC it'll still know if you were evil.  :O Also like the mix of Earthbound and HOME. I'm going to try it myself soon if my roomie Kaito doesn't object to me using his Steam.  :D

Bought it, haven't touched it. The overexposure is kind of impacting my desire to actually start it up.

Thanks, internet.

Over-excited fanbases are an understandable annoyance in any situation, I'd be lying if I said I have never been turned-off in the same way before.

I do highly recommend you give it a shot though, I sincerely don't think you'll be disappointed. It's a very clever game, and despite having a large amount of the game spoiled by others, it still messed with me a lot. It's cute, heart-warming, unsettling, and even creepy at times. Just about everything you do, is playing right into the game's hands.

Rabid fans gushing about this game for well over a month turned off any desire I have to ever buy or play it.

I played the game with friends while acting out the character's/enemy's voices aloud. Twas fun.

Just wanted to point out that I gave this a try and liked it some. The monster graphic are neat in their black and white only style and the combats wher you dodge stuff in that little box makes the battles a bit more interesting.

However, the protagonist being all silent (and frankly quite badly sprited) is a bit boring. And some of the supporting characters are doing the same routine just a few times to often.

But I liked the concept that you can win battles either by attacking or by picking the right conversation options a few times. But the part after Undyne was kinda weird, didn't really enjoy it

I loved the hell out of it.

The key to recommending it to your friends is "it's pretty good I guess", not "OH MY GAWWWD ITS THE BEST GAME EVAAAAR 11/10 GOTYAY" cause the last thing you wanna do is build this one up.

Undertale is a great game that is very loveable. It broke the mold of a retro JRPG. Great short play-through with lots of Awesome Per Minute. Well done soundtrack with great use of leitmotif. What do you think of the subtle focus on homosexuality and pansexuality?

There is subtle homosexuality? I only noticed the exaggerated anime-like homosexuality.

The Big Z played the game. Enjoyed it throughly on pacefist playthrough....but the creep factor of genocide is too much for the Big Z. Crazy little emotional roller coaster ride for sure and who knows maybe it's sequel Wil be twice as good...but I doubt it. Broke the mold for an RPG and burnt it really....even Zolty's own game looks....sad by comparisson. _sweat_

Never have I played such a simple game where not only did I listen to and enjoy EVERY track in the game but where the ending felt so good and satisfying. ^_^ Undertale is a amazing little RPG with every unfolding lore every time you replay as well as more hidden content than you'd think such a simplistic game would have. My only qualm with it has to it's dark side mode is just...so unsastifying as an ending and doesn't do anything for you. In KOTOR going darkside was hard to avoid cause you got so much cash and ease of access by using it. Made it feel really tempting. A final note? I was playing and saw particle effect and realized I'd seen it somewhere before. I was pretyt shocked to see it was a Game Maker engine that powers Undertale's simplistic but brutally challenging engine.

I'll play it if and when Nintendo manages to bring to their indie line up. (i think it's an indie game?)

Honestly, there was nothing subtle about it.

It was made in Game Maker Pro and isn't owned by anybody but Toby Fox and his team as far as I know so yep. Indie game. Though I'm waiting for the main streams to do cameos. I know it will happen. Undertale just touches too many hearts and inspires determination.

Yeah due to the fact it was made by Game Maker Pro is why Nintendo hasn't put it in their stores yet I read somewhere.  I could get it elsewhere but I want it on my wii u or 3ds.
