Title: Chain Game 4 Juno's Odyssey is complete
Post by: Prpl_Mage on April 06, 2016, 10:48:15 PM
It's been a good journey and a lot of fun. And a great job to everyone who did a chapter and wanted to try out some new things. This must be the least battle heavy game so far.

This game is staged in a science fiction setting with Juno being the heroine of the tale at hand. As with all the chain games the story usually moves away from the initial setting as developers get the chance to add their personal touch to the game.
I feel like it turned out great in the end!

Steam like product information:
A groundbreaking RPG in the old school style of Final Fantasy and Earthbound made by the developers behind Wrath of Gaia. Each chapter has a unique touch characterized by the artist behind it. Experience a grand adventure of friendship and hardship in a mystic galaxy facing peril by unknown forces. You will follow the headstrong heroine Juno as she sets out on the journey of her life to find a sanctuary, and herself. Fight your way through fast-paced challenging and dynamic battles by using each of the game's characters to the fullest. Can you save the galaxy?

I did a pretty quick playthrough with some ghost walk and such after Momeka finished but I feel certain that everything should work.
I uploaded the files to my Google drive because... Well to be honest, because my Box is acting up. You can either get it as a project folder or as a setup file. Your choice.

Game updated and everything should be swell

Nice screen selections, Purps! ^_^ Really conveys a since of adventure and shows off the game's awesomeness outside of the battle system for once. Honestly want to thank all of you who were involved, fans and team alike, for one truly awesome chain game experience! Enjoy! I'll have to wait till I get over my stomach bug to get to the library and see what all was added after I nearly died finishing it XD

I found some bugs for strange backtracking and walking to unnecessary positions. The kind you don't discover when you rush through the game. I should have them done by tomorrow however.

So the game can be completed as it is, but talking to the wrong person might warp you somewhere or mess up a switch so that progress is halted. So don't talk to strangers

Awesome!!! So glad it's finished. I'll play it as soon as I have time, which will probably end up being next weekend, but I'm looking forward to it.

I was thinking of trying to do a video playthrough but I don't have any screen capture software or anything. Can anyone point me to an ok free one maybe, and would anyone be interested in that?

Oohhh! I'd love to see that sadly I don't know of any programs like that myself. =/ Otherwise I'd make videos to go with my demo releases.

There is Fraps, but I'm pretty sure the free version is watermarked and got a 30 sec time limit. There also Cam Studio (http://camstudio.org/), used it for something before, but doesn't seem to play nice with windows 8.

You can a,lways find a crack for fraps o.

Also, https://obsproject.com/

I believe someone mentioned windows 10 having some recording with it but I haven't found it yet

I had a look at cam studio as I still have windows 7 but it appears as though it might be a bit dodgy now anyway, download wise.

I decided to just press on and play the game for now.

Obviously I'd played up to my chapter previously. I approve of the little additions to my chapter like the locked boxes and the street brawl etc. Very nice.

Then I played Dren's chapter. Excellent : p I love the rtp thing and the fact you made use of the characters you did. So cool.

Unfortunately at the beginning of the next chapter I got a pretty nasty error which forces me out of the game. An Assertion failure of LGD Picture.pas or some such. Any ideas? I had a root around the common events but there's a lot there so it's hard to see what might be causing the thing.

I'll see if I can make it happen to me as well

Okay finally got back to the library after a bout of stomach bug and other drama and can FINALLY play the game I helped finish XD DLing right now.

I used the project download. I actually had a problem where it didn't recognise the rtp application thing at first so I had to copy it across from another project.

I (incredibly reluctantly) skipped the spaceship bits. The puzzle with the bits of code was awesome, good work : p

Unfortunately I got a similar error just when Momeka's bit was looking like it was going to get really good, so I reckon my version of rm2k3 might be a bit averse to the sort of complicated stuff you lot are doing.

What I might do is (sigh) play the game again again using the setup file instead of the project folder. Or do you not reckon that'd help?

If you have the Steam Maker it should work well. <.< You're not trying this on Tsukuru are you? Cause I gave a copy to somebody on my non Charas mailing list and he had trouble with it on the old pirated maker too. He got it to work but he had to fight it allot XD

Found it

You should be able to use either. I have two computers, on one I used the official steam version, and on the other I used the "other" version.  if you try to open the steam version in the other version, it will throw some sort of error about the RTP. To fix it, all you need to do is edit the RPG_RT.ini and add the line "FullPackageFlag=1". It seems every time you run the steam version, it removes that line, but if you run the non steam version, it keeps that line and keeps working. If anyone wants to use the steam version, just make sure to add that line when you pass it on. It seems like rm2k3 may have removed it on me, so you or prpl may need to add it again if you don't have the steam version.

Being away for two weekends is fine, it may give me time to fix any performance issues that people have before you start development :p (hopefully there aren't any)

X3 And so my little sci-fi curse word spreads! Whahahha! Also to Chapter 3 and so far no real bugs. Just was able to inflict Repair on humans. XD But! I may fix it any other errors I come to and add in Rool's Side Quest. <.< Not promising anything though cause I'm pretty burnt out.

Thanks a lot for the help. It did the trick for the space fights and Momeka bits. I'm now getting errors in Fish's chapter 7 but I think that might be something else entirely...

I have to say, very cool chapter again Momeka. The portal thing was addictive, and I loved the puzzle and the travelling shops.

As for DB's space thing, it was awesome and totally needed for the game, though my laptop could barely run it : p I was lagging all over the place.

Fish, in your chapter, apart from some strange errors, one stopping my progress in the dream bit, I'm finding it hard to work out what to do in general. I'm guessing I'm supposed to be doing stuff on Mondora but after that talk about building a bridge I can't find any way to actually do it...

You need to go to old Depot, the big city and grab some junk from a generator

What other errors are you getting?

Also, to progress the story you need to go to the green planet, monodora is supposed to be a side quest. It just didn't appear that way in dialogue

Ohh so that's where the mysterious signal is comming from. Got it! That chapter was so open I sampled allot. El Presidenté got me though. Is there any equips that half fire damage or null it?

Solar Shield{head gear} can be obtained. PM me to find out how and obvious methods to counter flames: Cold Shoulder {Vaneza Skill} and Fiery Rage {Darone Skill} will help. But if you need to beat El Presidente I sugest you use Bandit or Rool. Either have great methods for dealing with robots and fire if you think about how to use them.

As for me I'm working on beating the final boss. Darn he's even more devious than I remember! O_O; But he hasn't spammed Sky Fall like he used to. So that's progress. Whatr isn't is all the spelling errors and the fact LT Thunder can't be added to the party cause of glitch I thought I'd killed. - -; Still! I had fun so far with all the new bits. The portal system has to be my favorite but Monodora 2.0 was a close second. X3

Hmm I searched and I didn't find any item.

Okay discovered a mesily bug you might encounter while playing: After unlocking Rool if you go back with him in your party to Morros and then try to go back to the ship? It'll replay the BANE Betrayal scene where we learn his name and generally destroy everything. - u -; My version now patched that so that if Juno's in the party, which she always is, it'll just go back to the ship. I also added a evolving shop to the Janus Station pre-End Game. It doesn't have many unqiue things but it at least makes more sense now. Gonna start on Rool's SQ tomorrow. Oh quick question: Has anybody played a game where they don't recruit Darone? Just wondering.

Post by: Moosetroop11 on May 07, 2016, 10:20:21 AM
I was wondering about that myself. I have a feeling the way it's done, most of his dialogue/stuff will happen regardless?

Same with not keeping the women. I guess I did leave a bit of a painful chapter with the different options.

Did anyone sell the women as slaves to that dude, or did you not find that?

I did it back when there was no switch stopping you from repeating it over and over again. But then no.

I think DB took it into account though, and Fishman as well.

Darone's Dialogue works fine in most places I programmed. I added conditional branch to only have him speak if he was actively in the party then thinking a little further I went and checked what switch Moose used to trigger Darone's fork and used that instead. X3 It's also how I came to the idea of using alternate endings by doing side quests. Which reminds me my PC deleted my RPG maker 2003 or I did somehow and I didn't get any work done on Rool's Side Quest. However I did add some more swords after looking at his sad variety. Didn't make em as powerful as his master weapon or anywhere near it and I'm gonna add three support forms to his repertoire latter since he's got enough damage based ones. Also took away equipment Rivet shouldn't have been able to equip like the Spidoid Silk Suit. - -;; Oh and balanced some skills.
Title: Re: Chain Game 4 Juno's Odyssey is complete
Post by: Fisherson on June 01, 2016, 12:23:58 PM
Minor little update discovered that if you recruit LT. Thunder you can't...unrecruit him...Yeah so I'm made a patch for that. Also noticed Robot and Cyborg alies have almost no shields or helms so I added some of those to every shop that sells robot parts. Rool's Side Quest will be added to this patch at 100% playability with not one but like three ways to solve if you pay attention as well as added the Dyson Sphere to the star map as 100% playable as a side area with some extra enemies for limited grinding purposes if you need extra EXP. Powder Rangers in some parts of the game will now exchange certain types of dust for fun stuff like Star Cores and even EXP trades to make up for the fact the latter half of the game is a bit hard to get through since we made it puzzle heavy and I...sorta....forgot that. I apologize. I also balanced some of Rivet's skills and gave her a few new ones to make her a better team player and less a big tank that smashes stuff.

Not to mention I corrected some spelling errors and grammar things I missed on the last pass. Gonna drop the Juno x Thunder alternate relation thing but! I'm playing with a system to make him more appealing after you unlock him so late in the game with a 'the more rocket launchers you get the more fun stuff you can do in battle' type thing called a "Power Load System." Will keep you all posted on that but yeah this coming monday or tuesday I'll be giving Purps the Rool Side Quest equiped version with fixes to the party change system.

Tis true. Your chapters are likely the least buggy of any in this game. Though I'm pretty sure all the chapters work 100% now! I play tested them to HECK making sure the game can be completed in a variety of ways and every side quest even can be done. I also re-tooled the weapons balancing some and making some extra weapons for people who were lacking....like the main character for once! XD I  also added the last few forms to Rool's Shapeless command. Twas a blast to work with. I just kinda would love it if I could do more in the RPG maker 2003's battle system. =/ I love it but it can be sooo limited when you have a summoner or stat blasting character like Rool.

I'm also digging the Undertale-like moment in Rool's Quest. Very fun that for those of us who run a moral Juno and crew. Resistance the temptations of the Dim Side ye must!

Thank you for noticing that! Yeah I originally was over worked and didn't think about people may not do side quests till after the  Charas Station Act 2 scene. ^^; It cut allot of people off who were saving or grinding EXP to do side quests on the second Star Map.

Heh heh. Yeah UT was a factor there. I'd just beat the game like three times and it occurred to me it'd be simple to make a three way solution for Rool's Quest and it'd maximize replayability.

Really now! You run a moral Juno and crew? Interesting....Tell me is it moral to let Darone live? Or Justice to end his life? >=D  Heh heh. Nah but either way you go it matters little. I was going to have "Dark" actions pile up and effect the endings but eh too much work. ^_^;; But I did give ENDINGS. Honestly the only thing that could have made the Wrath of Gaia better in my opinion is if we'd had an end scene or two of some kind. Ofcourse I think we did better on our characters this time around in general. They were livier, funnier and felt 3D and I got to have moment where the comic relief got to show they weren't just there for laughs. BVeen on my check list a WHILE.

A little warning I'll be updating this project very soon and ...I changed the ending slightly to help tie into the new SEQUEL Juno's Iliad which will be set four years from the end of the previous game and likely will not be a chain game but I'll add a sign up sheet sometime in the spring.

The Director's Cut will be uploaded here hopefully much sooner, upgrading the RM2k3 engine recently put in a few bugs, and it wil include a little new content that wasn't in the old one but the story choices and such will still be the same so no panicking. -.- I'm not a big name developer who would EA you guys after all. A list of what is added so far:

Annoying Crawl will be shortened and have pictures instead of sprites (98% Done)
Bonus Content: Lore Plugin for Nova
(Go on an exploratory quest and learn some lore about Nova while getting a little extra EXP before the first dungeon is cleared.)
Bonus Quest: Crystalline Truth
(Discover the secret of Jesipar's crystals and unlock a new form for Rool) 50%
Expanded Perses Base:
(The Perses Dungeon will be much larger and more inclusive. An will be available for Rivet if you search hard enough.) 1%
Changed Ending 100%
(Makes more sense now and will tie into Iliad.)

Ohh extra stuff!  Mondo aesome! I wouldn't mind replaying Juno's adventures. Will Nolie be playable in either game? I noticed there were weapons for her in the inventory and a set if skills but no matter what gnarly trick I tried she was not playable.
