Title: Starbound is finally released
Post by: Prpl_Mage on July 25, 2016, 05:21:22 PM
So starbound is finally released and I saw Fruckert and Ellie playing it. Anyone else getting into it or is everyone done with it already?

We have a charas terraria group but not one for Starbound, are people interested in that?

I live in a sucky timezone as you know but it's summer so I don't have any work to take care of, also a bit occupado with Monster Hunter Generations but I'm interested in giving this another go.

I fully beat the Unstable build of the game. Can say its on par with 1.0 Terraria when it was released. A bit more meaty/actual storyline and fun combat. Enemies are a lot more interesting. There used to be no damage on touch, but they added that back in and thats lame, the game felt so fresh without it.

I played some early version of it but I couldn't really get into it. Building bases felt pointless as you eventually abandoned the planet for a new one in the end. And I found the random generated enemies pretty dull, preferred Terraria when the enemies is set and I know at this point I will encounter these and until then I should have gotten this gear.

There's a bunch of non-random generated enemies. Remember, Terraria 1.0 was pretty barren with enemy variety. I'd say Starbound is nice, with some planets having raiders/enemy NPCs that you can fight. I like the USMC abandoned prisons on scorched planets.

You can build a base on your ship, and the reason you build bases on planets is for colony deeds, to get quests and you can also build farms and farm animals for materials. You're supposed to use the teleporter shop to buy teleporters for your bases around the galaxy. That way you don't have to travel to that planet where your farm is, you can just beam to it via teleporter from your ship.

Storyline missions with per-determined locations with small puzzles and challenges are really nice. I love them. Pocket dimensional challenges are decent, wish there were harder variants.

It's been an unstable laggy buggy mess ever since I got it in early access, and I try it every couple of months just to see if they've managed
to optimise it, but they never have. Now it's finally in official release, I got all excited to finally be able to play it, but it won't even run.

I'd say Terraria is better in every way, shape and form, and is much cheaper, but that's just my opinion :)

I'm super incredibly ultra busy lately, but I would love to play with you guys! I'll try to find some time in during the next week! Maybe this weekend, I'll message you on Steam when I'm free, but with the time-zone difference, it might be tricky.

I think FFL has it, I'll bug him about it.

Terraria is also way past 1.0.

Terraria at 1.0 on release was a pretty meh game at best.

I'd say Starbound grants a really good feature with ships. A build you can carry over to other players and worlds and be like "check out my ship/crew."

Your crew stays with you as well, and having up to two crew members follow you around is pretty neat.

Sure starbound needs a bunch more work, but I don't regret owning the game in the slightest. I'm glad it has story and its more than just slaying mobs/boss and praying for good RNG loot drops.
