Title: So hey... anyone willing to do a small edit to some Stardew Valley footage?
Post by: Kilyle on June 09, 2017, 04:22:42 AM
I'm trying to start a Stardew Valley "Let's Play" that's got a weird storyline for why I'm in the valley: I'm a criminal on the run, and everyone seems to think I'm this farmer they were expecting (and who knows where the real farmer is?), so I play along until I can get out of there, and it goes from there.

What I'd like to have for the opening is a little edited-footage trick to make my character jump down a cliff and land right where the footage has them start.  Ideally, they'd drop down a little bit for the landing (sprite altered a bit) and, if there's an easy way to do it, make it look like they hurt their leg (I have them walk slow for the first night, instead of running everywhere, and if I knew how to mod the game for a limping animation I totally would've done that too but walking'll have to do).

I have footage of the character inside the spot they land as well as just to the side of it (so there's an unobstructed view of the vertical stripe they'd fall through).  The footage is 1440x900 60fps in MP4.

Anyone think they've got the skill (and time) to mock this up for me?

Alternative Request: I've managed to sorta cut out the girl's image and stick it by itself.  And the video editing is... passable, I guess, in that I've managed to figure out how to erase the original girl standing there so there's a plain cliff to fall in front of.  Tonight I'm trying to figure out how to make the flat image fall in front of that cliff.

It's the landing image animation that is defying me; it doesn't look anything like it should.  Anyone care to make an animation for this girl so that she crouches down as she lands, then slowly stands back up?  (I'm not sure where to privately host images, so here's a Google Drive link.)

Bonus points if she looks like she hurt her leg or favors it as she stands.

Just in case anyone would be more interested in helping out now that I've actually got a functional series (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL0ClYKdVtHGGySk4jsYNCIy3lCz7WPwvL) going: I could use an animation of my character sitting on the porch steps, chin in hands, just sitting there breathing (and occasionally blinking), like she's thinking about something.  Bonus if it can be worked into footage with the little cherry blossoms blowing everywhere, but that's really pushing it.

I've managed to make a small variety of animations for my series, but this particular one seems like it would be outside my ability to do in anything like a timely or efficient manner.  Mostly because the angle of the face would change a bit, and I'd have to invent how the arms looked (or crib from "holding an item on top of my head"), and it would just be weird because the graphics are already outside my normal pixel-graphics level of skill (due to anti-aliasing in the graphical style, and thus lack of clear boundaries between parts), and I haven't even tried working with breathing or eye blinks or anything just yet.

Not good at video editing but could probably help out with the sprites if you have a base.

I don't have a sprite in isolation; that's one of the problems I'm struggling with, that I only have the footage and no raw pieces, as it were.  (When I've tried to isolate the sprite, I end up with color issues from whatever the background behind her was.)

However, I could give you a few screenshots.  If you got the sprite done, I can meld it into footage without too much problem.

...also, while taking this screenshot, I realized that the antialiasing is absent.  This was just Print Screened from VLC Media Player; my previous screenshots were rendered from Blender, and I think it compresses them and I didn't realize that, because these crisp pixelated graphics here are what I was missing while I struggled with edits before.  (Antialiasing looks pretty, but it sure makes it difficult to edit!)

Anyway.  Here's a link to the file (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1tx97cO3pE7VfGA6n3ZQeCT7DdMGvgb0G) on my Google Drive; if that doesn't work, I can find some other way to get it to you.  And here's the empty porch (https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZxWV0mvaQzvMZebmFbXn6c4stFjHFWYh).

ETA: Oh, and if you wanted to also give the breathing a try, I could try to get screenshots of how that looks.  But I might be able to mock that part up on my own (and I'm pretty sure I can mock up the blinks, I've done that before).
