Title: DoorSquare [Complete, Android/iOS]
Post by: Apex on June 09, 2017, 08:26:30 AM
Whoa, never thought I would be posting in this board with something of my own!

After about 6 months of work learning/using C# and Unity, I've finally produced and published a game!

(I'm just gonna copy and past from the store page :P )

DoorSquare

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ho7ufFmCZK0&feature=youtu.be
(Not sure how to embed on charas.)

iOS: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/doorsquare/id1236606731?mt=8

Android: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.alexcassells.doorsquare&pageId=106962446201797079011

Go through doors, get points, unlock things. Do it quickly and you will earn so many points, that your friends will be jealous of you!

- 80 + unlockable characters
Wanna be the president? Sure! How about a dog? Okay! Wanna be a Square? You already are!

- 65 + unlockable doors
Chainsaws, flamethrowers, semi-trucks, strobe lights, we got 'em.

- 60 + unlockable backgrounds
Earth, wind, sea, flames, or a psychedelic trip you won't forget.

- 33 + unlockable modes / gameplay mods
We've got big doors, small doors, rotating doors, doors that are fat, players who are thin! Absurdly fast doors, patronizingly slow doors! Tired of running from doors? Smash 'em for points in Door Buster mode, fire lasers at them in Blaster Mode. Bend the fabric of space-time in Powerup Mode. Want double the doors? You've asked for it! Wanna avoid one giant door? Sure we've got that too.

- 3 story campaigns
Because that's what a game about a square going through doors needed, a story! Dissect the psyche of Squar O' Conner, former police officer, as he battles an existential crisis. Help Eraqs Rood accomplish his dreams. There is no third story.

- Leaderboards! What's better than scoring higher than everyone else in DoorSquare? Making sure everyone knows you scored higher than them! That'll show 'em.

- 40+ unlockable/rewarded achievements
Don't get meaningless points for your hard work, earn characters, doors, points to spend in the unlockables store.

Yeah! The unlockables store! Use in-game earned points to unlock all the aforementioned goodies. No in-app purchases. If you wanna unlock everything, you've got to earn it. (Ironic that this is a feature right?)

It's my first game, and while I've scoured it for bugs, it doesn't mean that a few probably haven't gotten through.

It's free, there are gifts in game that can be unlocked with video ad views if you wanna help support me, but none of them are essential for game completion/achievements. Other than that, no banner ads or innersitial ads.

English is the only supported language as of now. It's available in most english speaking countries, Japan, Brazil, France, and Germany. If you want me to add it to your country please let me know. I was only a bit cautious when choosing countries because I don't know what adding an app to a country store, when it doesn't support that country's language entails.

Momeka, it'll take a while for the stores to reflect it, but I've added Sweden!

Actually, I kinda just threw all caution to the wind and added every available country on both store fronts... Hope that doesn't come back to bite me! :D

I think if you use the pervious link, it'll take you to the game before it's actually searchable on the Swedish store. So please keep checking back from time to time. Also, thank you very much!

Downloaded it and played a bit. There might be a bit too many achievements for my liking (the list seems endless!), but I quite like the story mode, I found it funny :)
Will play again

Yeah, I've been playing it a bit. I find it enjoying, the mechanics are pretty simple, but it was a fun time waster while riding the bus. Haven't tried the story mode yet though, should do that.

You might want to change the shop currency from dollars to something else btw. Just to prevent people from thinking it costs real money.

So far I really like the game, the additional modes you can unlock are also fun. The door buster, countdown and ghost are my favorite so far. Kinda amazing how such tweaks almost makes a new game.

So far I haven't spent a lot of money on the door and character skins, but the ones I did get mostly just made it harder to play the game.

Haha watched the video. Nice dancing square.

Interesting concept of having a game you partly design yourself by switching things on and off.

Thank you for the feedback guys! It's mostly just been friends and family that have been playing, and they haven't had any real input.

I considered the $ symbol as well, but I was unsure about what to change it too.

The different characters/doors/backgrounds can sometimes be detrimental due to the way that Unity handles color changing, since it alters the luminosity as well as the color. I'd love to implement a system that alters the color in a way similar to the color slider in RPGmaker. The problem is, is that when the game switches to red and blue, the luminosity changes with it (luminosity is my guess, I could be wrong here), which makes lighter colors into darker colors, and often light things will end up black, and hard to see on the standard background because of it.

There is one mode in the others tab that helps counter-act it called Changing Background Colors, I whole-heartedly recommend this mode as it takes the standard black background and causes it to change colors along with everything else, only it picks a separate darker color at random, leading to cool color combinations. I wanted to have close to 35 unlockable modes/tweaks, but honestly I should have made this the default options.

If you guys have any negative criticism, don't hold back. I need to hear these things to improve the game. I'm not gonna pretend the game is bug free, but so far it seems fairly solid without any game-breaking issues. Let me know if you think anything is particularly unpolished or bad.

As far as the story mode is concerned, there are actually several different stories in the game. A bonus story mode can be unlocked by watching one ad at the game over screen, and is pretty different than the original story mode, it's more action oriented, and was written after I designed all the story frame work, so it takes advantage of that kind of stuff a lot better. Then there is a joke story mode, as well as two hidden story modes.

This game has some very cryptic secrets.

I'm well into production of the next game, but to be honest, it's a word game and pretty standard. It's not a money grab, but I'm kind of hoping that it'll have a bit more mass-appeal. I want to be able to make enough to justify continuing working independently.

I actually think it's a solid game, there is some confusion regarding what modes can be mixed and what can't though.

I personally enjoy the banter-ish description on everything that can be unlocked, the money grab add and the "additional hints"- from the unlock.

So far I haven't tried the story mode, mostly play to and from school after I've stacked up on 100-ish double exp games. Sometimes in hard mode, sometimes normal, sometimes door buster, sometimes ghost and so on.

I just remembered, is there a way to stop ghost mode from moving up before the countdown finishes? I'm kinda used to it now but it was frustrating at first.

I had my admob account suspended, so I'm appealing to have it reenabled. Until then the ads wont work, and unfortunately the rewards wont unlock.

I'm really sorry. I'm trying to get it sorted out.

I played through the story modes and it kinda surprises me how well they work. I mean, I just advance a little and get part of the story. Rinse and repeat but it's still enough to keep me going. I personally liked the past story more because of the poetic touch, is that your original?

Also I noticed that this game does wonder to my concentration issues, engaging enough to keep me occupied but not requiring that much focus that I'm losing myself. I'm gonna start suggesting it to all the kids with Fidget spinners

ps. Did the account suspend thing also break the additional hints? They keep showing up blank for me
