Title: AppGameKit Bundle at over 80% off on Fanatical (2 weeks left)
Post by: Kilyle on February 27, 2020, 08:13:28 AM
AppGameKit Bundle (http://"https://www.fanatical.com/en/bundle/app-game-kit-bundle") on Fanatical for another two weeks.  (Version on Steam here (http://"https://store.steampowered.com/app/325180/AppGameKit_Classic_Easy_Game_Development/"); the Fanatical bundle gives you a Steam key.)

I've had this on my Steam wishlist for ages, always waiting for a big sale that never came (it's a $50 engine -- Fanatical calls it $80 but both Steam and its own site say $50, which might be a difference in version/bundle?).  But this one is a significant sale with 7 pieces of DLC included: two sets of games, three sets of assets, plus sounds and shaders.  More than enough to play around with for just $13.

(Note that the price is not 80% off if you just price the kit itself; it's the DLC that brings the whole thing in at a much lower discount.)

Anyway, no idea yet if it's any good, but reviews are quite positive on Steam.  And given how much I enjoyed bootleg game engines during the era they weren't available in the U.S. (2k3 cough cough), I like being able to throw at least a little money at new game engines, even if I don't end up doing more than toying with them.

(Tangentially: I've been enjoying Squiffy (a text-game engine) lately, and have been thinking about getting back into Inform 7.  Squiffy is like basic CYOA (turn to page 8, but less transparent about it and with some level of variables and Javascript capabilities).  Inform is like the classical DOS text adventures except updated for the modern era and with a far more robust engine that is written in code refreshingly similar to the English language: "The Kitchen is a room.  In the Kitchen is a counter.  On the counter is a hat.")

Does it run on an advanced scripting language or use it's own? XD Also nice use of vocab there!
