Title: Putting together a team for a Unity Project
Post by: RockJohnAxe on May 27, 2022, 12:09:24 AM
Hey guys,

Been awhile I know. Life has been pretty crazy, but things have gotten a lot better. Now I am at a point in life, where things have settled and I have some money. This is the time to shoot for the dream I always had.

I have been designing a world for some time mostly as a card/board game. This world is something I have been working on since 2013 and has seen many iterations (table top war, deck builder, adventure game, DnD campaign, Risk style game). After much time I have decided to create it as an actual digital game that will be sold online (preferably steam etc).

I am in the process of putting together a team, but I was thinking of all you wonderful talented people and thought I might throw this out there in case anyone is interested. I currently have 2 designers and 1 kinda part-time programmer.

The game is a Single player Rogue-like Auto Battler. I am creating the game in Unity.

Currently looking for programmers who know Unity(2D) and C#. I will eventually need Artists and Sound Engineers, but current focus is on building the basics of the game engine.

Funding: Once the basic engine has been put together and I get something more visual the goal is to do some form of crowd funding. The project currently has a small amount of funding, but hopefully I will be able to get additional funding as the project progresses.

Let me know if anyone is interested in this project and we can discuss payments privately.

Thanks guys.

Even though times have changed and we have grown older, you guys still hold a special place in my heart and it always keeps me coming back every so often. I hope everyone is doing well.

Hey, welcome back.

Nice to see that you're shooting for your dreams!

I don't know enough about those programing languages. But I would assist if life wasn't kinda hectic as it is, so wouldn't like to bring you down.

I can't, not allow to work on commercial games with my work contracts. And I wouldn't really have time anyway.

But from someone who ran a small game company for 10 years I can give you some unsolicited advice. I would really try to keep the team size down. At least if this is full time and you intend to pay people wages. I would get one programmer, one graphics artist, and maybe a designer or I would have one of the other disciplines dual wield it. Sound & music can easily be contracted and doesn't really require a full time person.

Get a prototype finished, then either send pitches to every publisher you can find or do a crowd funding.

Starting off with a too big team is the biggest issue I've noticed. Money runs out fast, the budget you need to ask for to finish the game is really high. You'll get far with one of each discipline. Keep the first project smaller, and if it does well you can scale up after that.

Dude it's been ages since I saw you last! Good to see you're challenging yourself and want to use Charas as a resource. I'm not big into hard coding or auto-battler stuff, idle RPGs feel kinda meh to my old bones, but I will wish you luck and offer to spread any mediatorou produce through my network of contacts and associated internet mafia family. ^-^
