Hey yo! Just checking in on everybody. Who is still around and how is everybody? Ya'll doing alright in these crazy times?

He returns from the mountain at the top of flying server! It takes him so long to walk these days because he's getting old and that would be cause for concern....
XD But so are the trolls and the bots. There's some safety in being so over the hill as charas is.

34 now, think I was around 13 when I first started hanging around here, feels like a life time ago.

Got promoted to senior gameplay programmer, so that's something I guess.

I've gotten hooked on warhammer, ttrpgs and other boardgames ever since covid. I just couldn't stand being around a screen for anything else than work at that time.

Congratulations! I miss doing game dev, I should get back in to it. Webdev is really easy and pays well, so I'm sticking with that for a job for now. I'd love to open a game dev studio some day though.

What kind of teacher are you? All of my friends started wanting to do table top around Covid starting, so I got dragged into a few games. Mostly D&D, but some Coriolis, and some Wise Guys as well. Kids are fun, my daughter is almost 2 now, and we've thrown around the idea of having another.

I'm 33. It def feels a lifetime ago since I was frequenting these forums as a little 14 to 15 year old kid. I never forgot about you all. Game dev was never just something I wanted to do as a passion or hobby or art. I mean, it was those things for sure, but it was also an escape. And when I was a kid, I was escaping a lot of things. You all helped me through some tough years. I'm not sure how to ever thank you for that, even if I acted like... well, a dumb kid through it all. I truly hope everyone is doing their best and keeps doing what they love and what makes them happy and thrive.

I teach English to Swedish students at approximately high school level, they are surprisingly good at it - but the rest of Europe is finally catching up.
And when I was a kid, I was escaping a lot of things. You all helped me through some tough years. I'm not sure how to ever thank you for that, even if I acted like... well, a dumb kid through it all. I truly hope everyone is doing their best and keeps doing what they love and what makes them happy and thrive.
Based on the talks I've had with some of our old members we seem to have this in common a lot of us. Creativity is a great escape, and a great something that helps us connect with others as well.

I'm reaching 4.0 next year. Gave up being a lawyer, moved to Ireland and became a software developer. No kids though, that might be coming next year, maybe! I was on my early 20s when I started coming here, that's mad.
As for TTRPGs, been playing them since them. Behind me there are around 200 rule/settings books :)

I usually go by the username tiger_robocop now, or taiguerrobocopi when that one is taken by other funny haha so random oldschool brazilian gamers with no creativity like me.
Havent updated ^that thing in a few years either.
Tried my hand at a professional game and pixel art career ( If anyone is interested, https://www.deviantart.com/taiguerrobocopi, though none of my actual professional works are in there because client secrecy... also most my clients wanted NSFW stuff) but then quickly realised making my hobby be my job was making me miserable (also when I learned I had depression). Also, couldn't finish any project due to feature creep so ya. Spent four months working manual labor in a big chain store but that place was two steps away from actual slave labour plus my boss was lowkey making me break multiple health and safety laws so I nope'd out of there quite fast. Half a year ago I landed a job as a public servant paper pusher and though it is far from the adventure and excitement the child me who first joined this forum wanted their job to be on the future I'm pleasantly confortable. Like, it's boring, but it is nice-boring. Like watching an unfunny Simpsons episode.
I had a mustache/goatee/sunglasses/beret phase. It lasted a year.
Recently became interested in rpg maker again and it reminded me of this place. Glad to see this place is still around in zombie form though I'm honestly starting to get concerned for Alex's wallet.

I'm glad that so many people are finding their way back here honestly. And even if things didn't exactly turn out as we expected back in 2005 ish when we joined - life turned out quite okay for most of you I hope.

Alex is fine as well as his wallet. Thankfully growing up also came with some better financial stability :)

Hey Alex not to complain but when will we secure the site again? Like it feels weird seeing Charas with that excitement point and ominous grey "not secure". <.<;;; Makes a man worry we'll see the forum blow up again. Not that there's a lot to lose but it would suck to see all those years of Topic Kicking or current topics vanish.

I'm 32, I work in counter-fraud IT, and I still think about things in terms of Fork Conditions and Parallel Processes.
Someone should probably create an 'Old Charas Weirdos' Discord/WhatsApp group or something.

I was supposed to spend Christmas with my parents and sister's family, but my wife, my child, and I all came down with covid a few days ago. Christmas is cancelled :P
