Title: Closing of the Community Contest
Post by: carmen on September 29, 2004, 03:42:47 AM
okay, Charas has become crapville recently and no one even cares about this contest. Even if I did pull through, and made this game. it wouldn't be charas's game, it'd be MY game and GC's And wingZeros, Basically and RPG artisans game. So I'm pulling myself from CC. Don't get me wrong, I'm still my game, just under and RPG artisans title. So expect it out later. So You won't need me as a Mod of this board any longer. The only Girl mod is pulling out. I'll now be able to take requests in Character Creators ^_^ So rejoice homonculus ^_^!! I'm sure Sai'kar can take care of all of this. To X-F3R, I'm sorry, but I'm making this game on my own accord now. Too many people expect too much out of just 7 ppl working on a game. It's a COMMUNITY GAME. not a  "oo here's 7 ppl game!" we have like 800 active members...com'on. Soooo I'm taking it back. If any one wants to pick it up, feel free, just don't use my storyline it's mine. ^_^

Thats what I told GhostClown on MSN, a few people is not a community, it's like a small percentage of a community. It would not be by the community but by those people so it would be unfair to call it a community game, unfair for those that made it.

Well, I understand why you are choosing to do this. I was trying my best to help and make the sprites, but the combined effort of the small group of people you had was not enough.. So if you need anyhelp in the futur tence, I'll be here. But it's also good to see you can start taking requests again.

I was afraid this would happen. I do not think anyone can fault you, Carmen. You were a tropper about this until the end.

If we are going to run the community contest again I think we will need to do make some serious revisions somewhere.

The main problem as I see it is that there is no "togetherness" in the community itself. It's made up of too many random passbyers and requesters. Not really a community since only a very tiny fraction are the users that do things.

There is only one thing i want to say to the whole Community, and to those users who initially voted yes for the CC.

Charas is not only one of the participating community, it's the community who proposed it.
If we'll have no game, do you think other communities will still think we're serious? If we'll propose another CC in future, do you really think someone else wil join?
Everyone, think to it.
Carmen and other few members did their best, i tryied to push this event with news and messages, but nothing.

If we'll have no game, Charas name around the other 15 joined communities will be destroyed.
If this will be the case, then we'll have to thank all those user who proposed themselves and then disappeared.

Congrats, great result.

I think the deadline was way, way too long. It started the beginning of June and was to go until March 30, 2005? That is 10 months! Most of a year! And here we are at the beginning of October, only four months later, and even the hardcore people are calling it quits.

It is impractical. People just cannot work on one project nonstop for that long. Even if you love it, you get burned out.

It would have been much better to make the projects smaller by giving only a month or two of time and allowing RTP resources but giving out higher scores for customized ones.

And also, about a team. There was no team. There was a large group of people that shrugged, said "sure, why not", and decided to join. And almost all of them dropped out because there was no team. The few that remained actually got to know eachother and BECAME a team, but by then the project was probably doomed.

Just my thoughts on the matter.

well, i knew this was coming.. this was charas' first time to join a community contest. =] it's a good thing.. cuz next time we make a community game, we make it together. aights?

anyway, hosting a contest doesn't mean we have to be part of the contest, eh? it's like hosting a "battle of the bands".

would the prizes still be there, by the way.

and.. i realized how immature i was when i was partially in charge.. lol.. looks like this is all my fault.. lol.. i suggested the team in the first place..  :flower:

This is the 1st time I've ever read this, because I saw there was a new post. Perhaps if it was updated more often...

It's a shame, but oh well...

I was going to help, but from what you said in your PMs, it sounded like there was plenty (if no too much) help already...
Sorry that it didnt work...

And this is where it went wrong. We should not have started the thing right off the bat. I know you meant to help Charas come together, but this was the wrong approach. I felt a sink in my stomach that somthing like this would happen so that is why I tried to call it to a stop before it got out. I feared disappointment.

well I did update it, and I pushed for months, many ppl just skip over it, others just let it die out. people are getting to caught up in themselves is all.

Shame.  I was looking forward to the finished product too.  I was under the impression that you all had it covered.  Evidently I should have read into it more often.  I would have offered my aid as much as I could, but I am only one man, so I guess it really wouldn't have made a difference anyway.

Edit: Then again, my recent change of housing restricted my participation with the Complete Resources Team, which no doubt would have also impaired my ability to be involved with the Community Contest, so I'll just shut my mouth now before I make a complete fool of myself.

That is pretty unfair. You cannot expect everyone to be completely enthused by this. I myself did not join because I had absolutely nothing to do then work on a story some other people thought was pretty cool but I had virtually no input in. I could not even make my bchars because of the "only use RM2k" annoucement.

I support Saikar. I said I would help out with midis but no one ever replied to that or put me in a position. Now I've got a project and can't handle two projects. It's sad to hear you're ending this... but you do have some points. If only a few ppl were doing this, then you're right, it's not really a  community contest.

Well midis were taken care of, lol this was the problem, everybody wanted the same jobs. chipsets were the factor I needed, NOONE answered, even theon had a fit of rage and posted. No one replied telling me they could do it. v-v I think we expected alittle too much out of a community built on depending on others. But I guess thats what charas is really

Well... yeah. And I say that without any bitterness at all. If we were a community of people that could do everything ourselves then we would not have a requests forum.

If we do this again (and, since less then half the time has passed, we could technically start over or reclaim your project if we wanted to) we would need a TEAM going on. "Hey you, do that! Hey you, over there, do this! I have that covered! You two can help with this, but focus on that unless you get what you need done for a while." Real defined roles, not just a bunch of people coming in and saying "I can do this, I think, but I am a lazy slacker that will not make a post beyond this one."

I feel so responsible. I was a member of this team from the beginning, me and WingZero were the MIDI people. I made three or four, and sent them to Carmen, but then I disappeared. I know that it wasn't all my fault, but I apologize of negeecting my responsibilities.
