Myrdia Crap
« on: November 27, 2009, 12:17:32 PM »
I'm coming to the realization that I'm not really going to be able to make Myrdia by myself, at least not as good as I want it to be.
So, I'm guessing that I'll just put some of the stuff that I got done here for you all to disconcertingly ogle. O.O

Original game thread here in case you want to see my inconsistencies.

=Copyright Notice=
All character content subject to change.
This includes the section immediately following this one, as well as the God's section.
All story however, is largely completed, I only need to fix up names/continuity errors, stuff like that.
Until then, just note that all content on this page will or is [c] Myself, Cody Gillmer.

=Characters=

All characters with a * next to their names were characters in the original Neverwinter Nights module that I started this in. That's there for historic posterity.

Nicholas Zārza (pronounced ZARE-zuh)
The circumflex I believe is necessary.

Nicholas is one of my favorite characters.
He was one of the White Councilors, which if you recall my White Knight government, is basically as high as you can go. They are essentially Oracles.
His last name is derived from his previous position. Zār is phonetically the first syllable in Zaris, the Goddess of the Future, Technology, Steam, and whatnot. -za is an honorary suffix meaning "The Speaker of -" in the ancient Myrdian tongue. So his last name is literally, "The Speaker of Zaris".
Anyways, on with the character:

Nicholas is a brilliant inventor. So brilliant, that he's currently around 2'000 years old.
On his original deathbed, Zaris came to him in a vision, and told him that he was too special to die, and that he still had work to do on this world.
She taught him some techniques in Animasy (soul manipulation), and told him to send his spirit away into a new body. Luckily, he had a prototype automaton (is there a more grammatically correct singular for that?), and sent his soul into that.
He is currently a gigantic, slightly scary disconcerting mechanoid. I have a very shitty drawing of him over at my grandmothers house that I drew today, I'll scan it later so you guys can have a look and laugh at my drawing ineptness.

Audrey Sybil*

Audrey is a character that I've not worked on much. That odd little short story that I started and never finished was intended to flesh her out.  So information is kind of short.

Audrey is a vampire *boo hiss*.
I've tried to treat her as non-traditional as possible, while still being within the bounds of tolerable fiction. So she doesn't sparkle, and isn't all "OH GOD, life is PAIN...we have no SOULS /wrists".
Vampirism in Myrdia, as I'm trying to conceptualize it atm, is a cell symbiote. It attaches itself to the nucleus of the cell, and "rewrites" the way the little things that I forget are called read the DNA, making us stronger. In order to do this, it needs some donor DNA to tweak. That's where drinking blood comes in. The blood is siphoned into a new organ that the symbiotes create right next to the saliva glands, and is treated for use by the symbiote. I forget how I explained the sunlight weakness, but I think it was just their eyesight get's so goddamn good that UV's start being painful.
ANYWAYS...about Audrey.
I honestly can't remember much about how I've rewritten her. I know that she travels a lot, trying to find a way to cure vampirism, because she doesn't like living forever. Yeah, very nontraditional, 'ey?
Her backstory is currently eluding me as well. ****.

Mr. Smiley*

Mr. Smiley, Mr. Smiley...
He is very very important to the main questline in Myrdia.
Remember how I explained that White Knights get a "guardian" upon making their pledge into Knighthood?
Yeah, he's the guardian of the Lead.
I can't tell more about him without giving spoilers, and I'm going to leave it up to you guys if you want to hear this story that I've been working on for literally over two years.

Christopher Zarrick

Zarrick is essentially the Carth of this game. He's one of the first characters you add to your party.
He's one of the first White Knights pledged to a god outside of his species. He's a human (his last name is a reference to Zaris), but the god he's tied to is Tayn, the Goddess of "Energy", Fun, and Electricity (who's the Matron Deity of the Kender...I should find a new name/description for them so I don't get sued). He's very energetic, and very eager to please.
I have to confess, I haven't written much about him.
All I know is that his guardian is this little blue weasel whose name I forget.

Unnamed Wemic Character*

Wait...how is she unnamed and in the original module?!?!
Well...her name is a weird story.
See, she's changed names about four times.
It means "fierce" in the Wemic tongue...but the problem is I keep changing the ****ing Wemic tongue.
The name she kept the longest is Tigla'Iew'Ve.
Tigla for short.

I think you see why I wiped that.

Ms. Missingname (lol i maid a funny) is a Wemic. The link is there in case you don't know what a wemic is. Because I sure as **** didn't when I downloaded the pack that had them.
And by God I was in a ****ing psuedo-furry stage so I just had to have them in the game.
I'm quite obviously done with that now, so I actually have a purpose for them in there. They're the "nature freak" elven stereotype that was missing in the game. And Ms. Missingname (okay i'm done) is the daughter of the chieftan of the most powerful clan in Quarzek (the desert place, in case you don't recall). Tigla wasn't quite officially a woman in the clan yet, because she hadn't made her pilgrimage to Rishar (the nature god, earth god, animal blah blah) yet. However, he father didn't want her to go, due to Dezry, the clockwork city (more about that in the places section in case I ever get that far). This was quite a good concern, because Dezry is known to attack wemic while on movement.

That's as far as I got for her. I was concentrating on Nicholas most of the time.

Frax Ruckert*

Fruckert!

Mr. Ruckert is considered a heathen in the Dwarven undercities, because he doesn't like to worship Darax, the rather dickish god of the dwarves (his realms are Ice, Revenge, and the like). He instead liked Nature.
So, he got kicked out.

You know, I believe his Bio is in the bio thread that we have someplace...
Yeah, go look at that.
Lazy.

Unnamed Shade Character

The newest character, at around a week 8D

Shades, in case you forget, are the race associated with death. Their skin absorbs light, giving them a flat black appearance, save their eyes and hair, which are stark white.

This character, being the newest, doesn't really have a backstory, just a concept.
I thought "Why not make a benevolent necromancer?"
So...I did.
Golems are a subtype of necromancy in Myrdia. They involve taking a spirit of someone who is deceased (the more recent the death, the better, too old and they go insane from the shock of being alive again). This would make Zārza the first golem, and also one of the last. Shortly after his creation, the Council banned golems, believing them to be an affront to three of the 11 principles: Life, Death, and Nature.
Mr. Unnamed is not fond of death. He doesn't like the sadness that it wreaks on people, and he doesn't see why we have to go on.

Now, golems were experimented on in a zombie type fashion shortly after Zārza's creation. They were found not to work, due to complications like Rigor Mortis, rot, and the fact that the body stopped functioning for a reason. Plus the spirits had a higher tendency to go insane due to the body not being theirs. That's bad.

Anyways, he decided that he was going to go find an abandoned factory/town in Hāv (pronounced hayv, this is the human island, and abandoned factories/towns aren't that hard to find), build a bunch of golem chassis (is that a viable plural?), and make a golem town, essentially giving these departed souls a new life. While popular to spirits (the realm of Pale Twilight isn't very nice), the White Council thought this to be an outrage, and attacked the city. The golems retaliated, saving their new saviour, who is currently going from ruin to ruin, running when needed with his small golem entourage.

That's as far as I've gotten in characters so far, please give me some crit's, as I believe I rather suck at drafts and need to improve.

=Places=
Section needs reference map, I'll start drawing that soon.
Until then, you guys wouldn't have a clue what I was talking about.

=Gods=
Why haven't I talked about the gods yet?
Idunno.

Creation Myth
Just making this section for future use, it's not actually made yet.

Daivori-aka Citrine Dragon, Crystal Lord, Lifewyrm etc.

Personifications:
Life
Crystals
Light
Justice
Color

Material Representations
A shard of citrine
Dragons (duh)
Rainbows
Light
The Sun
The Moon

Favored Form
A dragon made, of course, out of Citrine.

Bio
Daivori is one of the first two gods, the other being his brother Kalik.
He's considered to be the "white" in the original void, the black being, of course, Talik.
He's considered to be a very fatherly figure, very joyful, and very active.

Notable Myths/Legends/Proverbs
When the world was created, the first ray of light hit Daivori's scales, and broke off into a dazzling rainbow. The shards of the light than became the dragons, thus creating life.

Izhvare-aka Matron of the Mask, Asylum, Puppetress (is that a word? If not I'm pretty sure you can gather it's meaning.)

Personifications
Insanity
Murder
Evil
Masks
Bone
Grey

Material Representations
A cracked mask
Masquerades
Puppets
Barbed wire (as of the industrial revolution)
Rust

Favored form
A teenaged girl in masquerade wear, with dozens of ever-changing masks floating around her, as well as a full harlequinn mask on her face.

Bio
Izhvare was created the first time Daivori and Kalik met in the void. Their essences mixed, creating something "inbetween" themselves.
This essentially makes her their daughter.
Out of the gods, she's the least worshipped, the only people worshipping her being deranged individuals who roam the plainslands of the Kender (suggestions?) homeland, whose name I forget. These people are called "Shriekers", and as I've said, they're insane. Taking to practices such as skinning their victoms and using the faces for clothing, taking to random fits of murder, and cannibalism, they're pretty much killed on sight by any White Knight patrols.
Her personality is said to be vindictive and cruel usually, but it changes rapidly.

Notable Myths/Legends/Proverbs
"Insanity hides a mask to draw in the unexpected."
Cliche as all hell, but it works.
Legend I don't have right now.

Kalik
To be finished tomorrow.

Too much stuff atm, like the fact that GM8 is coming out soon and I'm out of licenses for GM7.
So I can't make it for a month or two.

Other than that, I'm having troubles designing the engine.
Mostly bizarre metagame stuff.

I've got the story down pat though :3

With respect, everyone on these forums seeems to have a million and one character and plot ideas. I seriously doubt that they need to steal yours. I wasn't going to mention this until you got into the copyright weirdness (which doesn't work like I suspect you think it works, by the way.)

Which is why I said "Regulars yeah blah blah blah".
And I know that I'd need to file all the appropriate stuff into the government in order to make it "official" and have the ability to actually do something about it and not get laughed at, but at the moment, and with my current abilities, I am actually doing it properly...kind of.
This official document from the copyright offices actually say that copyright is granted upon creation in a fixed form, and all of this is in a fixed form...at my house. As I have no proof, I'm just sticking those up in case one of the little anon's going through the site decides "These are awesome and I'm going to use them 8D"

No, see, you're right about copyright right being automatic. You technically don't need to file anything. The problem with the copyright is that copyrights are designed to protect very specific things that don't change. If you keep changing characters and adding new things, the copyright gets really unstable. The question begins to arise as to what exactly you're claiming when you add new stuff and delete stuff you don't like. Besides, a copyright is just an invitation to a lawsuit. Someone using your copyrighted material doesn't automatically get fined or anything. You have to find out and sue them. That's costly, time-consuming, and difficult to prove in an artistic medium.

Everyone on the internet should try to know a little bit about the law, because trolls threaten to sue all the time as scare tactics. It's almost completely a bunch of hot air.

Good point, I'll go change the copyright notice.
The characters are subject to change, but the world and story itself isn't.
I already know all of these characters role in the story, and the story itself is largely written.

EDIT: That better Sai?
