Winter sales are up
« on: December 23, 2015, 12:15:52 PM »
Steam started theirs today(?) so grab your games at discount prices!

I would suggest getting Heroes of might and magic V tribes of the east if you are interested in that kind of gameplay. Tribes of the east was the last expansion and also a standalone game with the contents of the original and hammers of fate expansion. The only thing you miss out on is the campaigns I believe. Great game.

Also Shovel knight if you like those type of games, I don't have it on steam though

Terraria for 3.39 and Starbound for 9 if you are into sidescrolling sandboxes. Also magicite, but I haven't played that one

Borderlands 1-2 for like 7.5, Dark souls for 7 and a whole lot of Early Access games

I only just bought Underrail on Steam so I've been playing that. It was already on sale when I bought it so I don't feel too bad about buying it before the sales. It's pretty damn good as well, as long as you like punishing Fallout 1/2 style gameplay =P

I'm hoping that Football Manager 2016 goes on sale at some point because I could really do with updating after missing out on Football Manager 2015.

I'd suggest getting Crawl if you can play with friends, it's a very fun game to play, and you'll laugh a good lot.
Kingdom Of Amalur is also a good WRPG, not the best ever, but good nonetheless.

Tabletop Simulator is $10, and it's great if you're a fan of tabletop games and have some friends to play with.

I'd like to try and establish a tabletop group here, but I don't know how open everyone is to the idea.

I never understood that one, I just assumed it was done as a joke of some sort since all the videos were boards and pieces being flung through the air.

I got Talisman earlier, I would suggest it if you are into boardgames with some rpg elements or whatever it should be called

It's actually a very serious, very good simulator of tabletop games. Everything from classics like chess and poker all the way up to DnD and custom games can be played almost perfectly. There are some "fun" tools for you to use, like flick, draw, and table flip, but there's actually a very competent and well-made tool for playing games in there. The Steam Workshop also has a ton of ports of real tabletop games. I semi-regularly play Boss Monster and Cards Against Humanity with friends.

If you're even a little bit into games like that, it's worth a shot.

Hmm, sounds like it could be something for me then. Been playing some tabletops with my friends but since most of them have moved away it's not happening as often. Boss Monster, Carcassone, Munchkin, Betryal at house on the hill, Legendary, mage knight, smash up and we even had a period with tanto curie.

Have you attempted to make any games of your own? Are the tools any good? Because that would most likely be the selling point for me

I'm actually trying to put something together right now. There aren't really any built-in tools for game creation other than making your own flash cards and rulebooks (though I hear that they're planning to add more in the future), but the game allows easy importing of resources to make up for it. The sim doesn't really force any rules or restrictions on you, so making things is all a matter of doing what you want. It's a sandbox.

As with every year, having a birthday on more or less the day the Steam sales start is a good way to get almost a year's worth of games in a single day. Bless you, Gaben.

After playing around with it for some time I find that description to be the best suited for the software.
You can place objects and whatnot, but there are no real rules to be set besides restrictions on joining players. So even though I added a turns system the other players can mess around during my turn, and even move around my own stuff. But further experiments await, I need to at least make a playable charas based tabletop before I give up

As the host, you can disable some actions for the other players. Hosts can always use all actions, of course.

Alas I spent the last of my entertainment budget for Arrow Season 3 and some more Torchwood! Ah well. I'm saving up for MV anyway so maybe I shopuld cut back on even discounted games. Still would love to have Starbound or Terraria for those prices. >-<;
