MIDI Contest 1
« on: September 27, 2008, 04:32:52 PM »
Alright, populace.  I have been given the A-okey to host a MIDI contest here on Charas.  First, though, I will need two other people to judge, preferably those who are not primarily musicians or don't even make MIDIs.  So, anyone interested, please reply here.  Entries will no longer apply as of Wednesday at noon Charas time.  I will then select two people to be the honorable judge (Name) and (Name).

Thank you for your time, and have a superb day!

I will judge, under the condition of certain rules:

Midis cannot be longer than 1-1.5 minutes.
1-2 midi entries per person, regardless of the number of different genres the midis will be judged on (examples: Boss fight, Village theme, etc. )

I say this because we had a music making contest a long time ago, but there were around 6 or 7 different things people could enter music for, and most contestants entered one song for each thing that was between 3 and 4 minutes long. Needless to say is was more than I wanted to listen to.

Meis, those rules seem like they're more for your convenience than the good of the contest. The rules should be down to Emerates, he's planned and is running this thing.

I only said that I would be a judge if something similar to those rules were active. If there are two judges who are willing to judge, then I won't be needed, will I? Quit your complaining.

I have a Midi i would like to enter but i would like to know the exact rules and such before entering my Midi. its only 1.5 minutes because i'm no good at lengthy music (or music in general but the midi isn't half bad) So, i need the exact regulations and such before i enter it.

Yeah, that whole thing was a pretty big flop, wasn't it? It was basically 2 people competing against each other in every category.

Oh, and sorry, but I will not be entering. My hardcore music making days are long gone, especially when it comes to MIDIs. If this was a general music competition, I would consider it, but I've had better things to do than write music lately. Also, I suppose I wouldn't qualify to judge, so looks like I'm not gonna be involved here. Have fun.

Same as coaster.  I'm not one to do midi style.  Good luck though.

I can be a judge--I don't know how to make MIDIs at all (heck, I don't know how to do...anything for RPGMaker...).

What would I have to do?

The rules are this:

A sample melody will be provided, and it will up to the MIDI maker to take it in whichever direction they so choose.  I hadn't really considered a length limit, but a 10-minute odyssey would probably be a bit overdoing it.  Anyone who enters will only need one entry.  As for how long you have, I'd say probably two weeks to make it.  These rules aren't set in stone yet, so if you still want to comment or give advice, you can stick your posts right here.
