Sayonara Zetsubô Sensei
« on: September 26, 2009, 05:41:04 PM »
Seriously, I don't remember ever seeing an anime as good as this one. The manga was great, but the anime is a work of art.

I'm making this thread entirelly of fanboyism and pixels.

Would write more, but cannot due the fact I'm still watching it.

Very well.

Plot: None. It's rather each episode parodies many different famous animes, games and whatnot, with a hint of dark humor.

The main character is a teacher whose name, Nozomu Itoshiki, due to a rule in japanese language which is still rather dificult for me to understand, when written sideways becomes "Despair". True to his name, he is pessimistic and sees all things in life in an over-the-top pessimistic behavior. He usually takes something normal of day-to-day life, analises it, and all hell breaks lose as he starts to get paranoid over said thing.
Suppose, as an example, that he starts to complain how some people say important things in a casual way. Like a friend of yours that one day just goes and says out of nowhere "By the way, I got married last week." each student starts giving increasingly disturbing examples until everyone is depressed, and then they've got the brilliant idea of doing the exact opposite to fix the mood: saying things which were normal as if they were amazing.
"The other day I thought the elevator was going up but..." *dramatic pause* *DRAMATIC ZOOM INTO FACE* "IT WAS GOING DOWN!"
*camera spins around Sensei, who starts yelling as if it was the end of the world*
 "DOWN?! DOWN, YOU SAID?!!"

There's also tons of non-sequitur humor which literally just flashes through the screen long enough for you to say "Wait, what?!" and never gets mentioned again. In one episode, as an example, he is talking with his students when he just collapses dead, then the screen just flashes for two seconds to Kira laughing holding the Death Note, after that the episode continues with him alive and well and no mention of him ever being killed.
On other, slightly after a character says a lie, psycholocks come down upon them in the best Phoenix Wright fashion, only to disappear as the camera changes angles.

I realise after writing dis down that just by describing it may sound somewhat shallow and ridiculous, so I'll look for some YouTube clips.

Pardon my grammar in the dis on post.

Edit:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9OTCIlGNJJM - Death Note parody

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FiWfBoISq-M - Kiddy show parody

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbetJ_6A2do - Casual talk as never seen before.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aP-reR-VgO8 - Parodies huh... I'm not even sure. Many different Evangelion / Ultraman episodes? Also, why are they are fighting aliens? Well, that plot was introduced halfway through the episode, and they conveniently were standing right atop a ultimate weapon. So, yeah. The rest of the episode is the first half seen from other character's angles, characters who were not even aware there were robots in town, and kept doing absolutelly nothing but talk while the screen flashed "Main events taking place somewhere else." randomly. The two characters are the one the aliens are watching on the screen.
