Shall I smash my PC to bits with a hammer?
« on: July 16, 2010, 06:50:27 PM »
...or can someone offer me a solution?

As of recent, my computer's being doing weird things, and I'm not sure why.

1.) Sometimes, when I exit games at a low resolution, such as full-screen RPG Maker games, the monitor will suddenly match
that resolution. My desktop will look awful. I'll enter my NVidia control panel, but it says that my maximum resolution is 1024 x 768.
What!? It's 1680 x 1050. It also says that I can enable 75Hz on my monitor, but it only goes to 60Hz when normal. Anyway, this
resolution change means that I have to restart, then I can set it to normal again. It's annoying.

2.) Sometimes, when I've left the computer for a while and it goes to standby, I'll move the mouse, but it won't react. I'll then turn
the screen on, and it'll be black and say "Analog / Digital" in the corner for a few seconds, then the screen will go black and the monitor button
will just start flashing again. Why?!

I'm wondering if it's some GPU to monitor connection problem or GPU problem at the moment. I tried Google, but it yields pretty useless results,
and I don't want to fork out £125,000,000 to get it fixed. Any computer genius around here?

1st off is it a flate screen monitor
 :o

sound like the monitor going my one did that
if you can ask any one to let you  test out your  monitor out on there pc
or ask them to test a 2nd monitor on your pc to see if it is your 1st monitor going
as the screen may go bang any time now as my  one flashed on and off time to time
but  i put  it in the recycling bin so some one can use it for parts

It's a flatscreen, yeah. The monitor quality is fine. Picture quality and lighting is great. I think it's more
of a connection thing. Not sure!

Did you perchance get a new graphics card?
If so/not, update your drivers.

I'd also check to make sure your connections are all peachy.

Update your Nvidia drivers. simple truth is Nvidia can suck and the Nvidia control Panel can screw around with your monitor like this. Now I have to ask do you have two monitors hooked.

I do and doens't expierence these problems the closest I have ever was when certian games where exited wrognly my screen woul stay the same resolution but was easily fixed in desktop settings. You could always get a program to see if any certain is running that could be causing this or shoulddn't be running when this happens.

You could also for a quickier try to create a new user and see if it happens on that. I noticed a while back even if I had no viruses weird things would happen on this User Account but would be fine on a new one.

Just some simple suggestion without getting to technical.

Is it a Vista?
If so, press Alt+Ctrl+Del and open the thingmajing that you can close programs with.
When you return to the actual computer again things should look normal.
Can't remember why this happened to me earlier or what I was playing but I recognize it.

I think it must be the drivers. Not sure why. Games ranging from Crysis to RPG Maker when full-screened can destroy the resolution.

Connections are tip-top, and I've not touched them at all. I'll let you know if there's any luck! :D

Worst case scenario, minimize quality to maximize performance. I was finally able to play RPGM in full screen mode, borderlands worked and WC3 didn't die on me after 1,5h
