I'm in a slump
« on: October 01, 2005, 12:40:50 AM »
yeah.

Programming on my game has pretty much halted for the past two or three weeks. Part of that I could blame on Hurricane Rita, but I'm not sure if I would have done anything even if I didn't have to evacuate.

Problem is, there is nothing really holding me back. I haven't lost interest in my project, and I am pretty busy recently and will be getting even more busy later, but that never really stopped me before.

Perhaps I am burnt out from so much work or simply stressed. Usually I have millions of thoughts proccessing at once, not all of them related, and many concerning my game. Now, its earily quiet beyond what I need to do at that time. Very similar to writer's block, when your just staring at the screen but accomplishing nothing.

Anyone have a similar problem or know how I can get past it quicker. Sometimes these periods of "writer's block" can last me months (I think 6 months is my record).

Please keep the bold statements in mind when replying, because I anticipate questions as to what decision is holding me back or methods relating directly to writer's block.  :)

Bold Statements? nah, forget them, they aren't my style.

This happens to me alot Drighton, and the only way I ever pass it is to go do something extremely inspiring. Luckily for me though, there is a valley next to my town (the clyde valley...nice place) walking there and seeing the view always manages to get the thoughts going again.

Happens to me all the time. It's the reason I've been working on m game for 5 years. I like it a lot, but I burn out for a long time.

I don't know a cure. Wish I did. :-/

Gah! I suppose I could do something like that. Right now I'm just playing old N64 games... :p

Ditto here. I lost count but an educated guess would put my project somewhere around the 4 or 5 year mark.
