Command & Conquer
« on: February 08, 2006, 04:08:46 PM »
I was reading the article posted at IGN (C&C IGN Interview) about the collector's edition soon to be released and many memories began to flood back into mind.

I never really cared for the Red Alert series, but the original C&C universe was awesome. I loved playing the NOD with their Obelisk of Light, zzzzZZZZZZZZZAP

Then came Tiberian Sun. I though things couldn't get any better. Once again following Kane's lead, attacking GDI bases with my cyborgs and cyborg commando. Artillery anyone? As far as I remember, the only weapon in the game that could change the terrain, besides the ion cannon of course.

But then, Kane, NOD, and GDI all disappeared. My brother was blessed with Generals (Note to Mods/Admins: We need a 'roll-eyes' emote. Seriously, how can you not have it?) which he raved on about. I will admit that I didn't play it mainly because it wasn't part of my tiberium infested universe.

Well, the interviewee hinted at a possible C&C game begin released that continues with my favored story. I'm sure at least some of you have played at least one version of the game within the franchise. What are your memories of the game? Do you still play it? Would you play it for old time's sake?

If I had the means, I would challege some people to a game  >:

edit: Checking EA's website shows that Command & Conquer: First Decade, the entire series on one DVD, was released yesterday with SRP 39.99. Great, now I'm wondering if I should drop the cash for it or use the money for Empire at War.

C&C Renegade, awesome. Love the old ones. Kane, GDI, NOD, those towers, Mammoth Tanks etc.

Yes, i forgot about them too. I can't help but think of The Simpsons at the sight of the word 'mutants'.

"Die you chalk faced goons!"

I played through Renegade, but it seemed like the most fun would come out of multiplayer, which I couldn't do. I bought the game for $10, sold it for $5.

Unfortunately, my collection is scattered. I had the original C&C, allowed my friend to borrow the NOD CD so we could play over our awesome 56k modems, however this endeavor didn't work. We've both lost our respective CDs, hence no more C&C. :(

My brother borrowed Tiberian Sun from me (it was his in the first place) and I haven't seen it since. The only thing I have is Red Alert 2, and as I said, I never cared for it.

Just thinking about a multiplayer game of C&C makes me happy.

Most of memories will always stem from El Prez's and my games on the Playstation. He had the two disks, the two playstations, two TVs, and we played it so many times.

Even with 1 easy computer, we lost so many times, but it was great.
I love making walls of tesla coils.

Lets see here, I have the first playstation one, red alert: revitolization for the playstation, command and conqure: red alert 2 (and yuris revenge) and I have generals. They were all really good, except generals which I hated.

Battle fortresses with 5 GI's, almost unstoppable, especially if you sneak a yuri inside, but people didn't like that too much :(

Hell Yeah! Just recovered all my old rm2k/3 games from my 10 year old, broken laptop hard drive that had been formatted and had a new OS installed on it. Oh, and I did all of this from my phone. WIN

I only have Red Alert : Retaliation for PS... I should buy it for PC.
I didn't like Tiberian Sun. Too much futuristic. Didn't have any boat nor sub.
Of the 3 I played, Retaliation is my favorite. I love to build Tesla Coil around my base for defense, and attack with Missile Sub.

C&C Renegade's key feature would have to be netplay because it has pretty much no AI to speak of... and the one it does have, sucks. It's rather limited too.

I like Red Alert 2 and Tiberian Sun, why? When you play the game through you can get tools to make your own single player missions, it's a bit of work though. Custom units too, and they can be coded right into the map, as maps are full text.

Heres the kicker everyone. Discussions on many boards, including EA's board for C&C:TFD state that LAN and multiplayer on C&C:Tiberian Dawn (the first game) and RA1 are not available.

I see this mainly because multiplayer on the first C&C was to be played over a modem. I still remember dialing directly to my friends computer so we could play.

Well, just thought I'd give fair warning to anyone who was thinking of buying the collection, though not many people here have shown interest. (I plame Shadus' kingdom hearts thread. *shakes fist*)

Anyways, just thinking about good ol' C&C makes me want to program a RTS of my very own. Shouldn't be too hard. :p
